However, for some, that right has unfortunately been taken away.

That's where Yoorana Women's Domestic Violence and Resource Service comes in.

They are committed to ensuring women and children live a safe, healthy, and happy life free from Domestic Violence.

The service is a refuge, with three sites located in Maryborough and Hervey Bay, providing safe accommodation to women and children escaping violent situations.

Sadly, Yoorana services up to 128 women and children locally each year out of domestic and family violence. Manager Tanya Sanders said Yoorana is guided by the feministbased principles of autonomy, choice and empowerment and are dedicated to fostering an inclusive environment to create change and improve the safety of women and children.

THE Hervey Bay RSL has dug deep to support local women in crisis.

Myriam Cottage is a three-bedroom home in Scarness that was purchased by Marie Gibbon in 2016 to fulfill her late mother's dream of buying a house and opening the doors to accommodate the less fortunate.

“We provide temporary accommodation, therapeutic support, counselling, and advocacy,” Tanya said.

“We provide good quality accommodation with capacity for client privacy and wherever possible a homelike atmosphere.”
