President’s report Hello Members, Happy New Year to all our Members.

Christmas Day was a massive day for our kitchen and restaurant staff in preparing, serving, clearing tables etc. for what was an astounding Christmas luncheon at all our venues. Our catering figures were: RSL Club - 470 Members and guests Clubhouse - 210 Members and guests Bayswater Bar & Grill - 160 Patrons A sincere thank you to all staff who worked on Christmas Day making the day a joyous and festive celebration at all three venues.

We finally saw our new $180,000 lift installed and commissioned for service during December. Thank you to all members for your patience during the installation period.

Our motel “The Comfort Inn on Main” has seen the replacement of all unit entry doors and a new proximity system installed on each door (swipe card system). There has been good feedback from patrons and our motel staff in this regard. Trade and occupancy have been at 70% over the December/January period which is pleasing on this investment.

Given the success of our Main Street Motel,

the Club has further diversified into another Motel on the Esplanade. An opportunity arose to purchase the Hervey Bay Motel (18 Units); given the price and location it was an acquisition the Club just could not walk away from. We plan to give it a good tidy up and operate it “as is” for the immediate future.

The Clubhouse has also seen good figures over the holiday period with good weather for golfers and holiday makers in town.

The new Burpengary Community Club has seen construction well under way at this point in time. We will commence fit-out of the premises in September 2020. The Club should be completed for trade hopefully in December 2020. Our intention is to negotiate a 10 year lease with an option of a further 10 years. We are still discussing a number of matters however we are very confident everything will be resolved shortly. Whilst construction is full steam ahead this is really at the Developers risk with final approvals still pending.

Our licensed hotel on the Esplanade “Bayswater Bar & Grill” has started to turn the corner with improved trading results.

The CEO and his Management team have been involved with on-going hard work in

this regard. In particular, our dedicated staffing appointments from a new General Manager, in Craig Allan, floor supervisors, chefs and restaurant staff.

The Board approved the installation of new carpet to soften the internal noise and make it visually more appealing. In addition, the approval for new upgraded air conditioning units. As you can appreciate given the size of the premises these come at considerable cost however we believe it is critical to the business moving forward to have adequate air conditioning. We have also approved the installation of a new front entrance stairway in the center of the premises from the footpath to the deck area. We are currently awaiting approval from the Body Corporate to commence such alterations.

Across all venues we are looking forward to another terrific year ahead.

The Hervey Bay RSL Sub-branch will be conducting the Anzac Day Dawn & Main Service 2019. Dawn Service march will leave the RSL Club at 0515hrs & the Service will start when the march has entered Freedom Park.

Main march will step off from the Main Street carpark, in Pialba at 0915hrs & move to Freedom Park. Service will commence when all participants arrive in Freedom Park.

The usual function will be held following the main Service for all Sub-branch members plus up to three guests, with a charge to apply for guests. All serving members of the Australian Defence Force are granted entry free of charge.

Wrist bands available from Wednesday 1st April to 23rd April from the Sub-branch office between 0930-1230 Hrs Mon to Fri.

Whats been happening at your Club? wonderful Winners

We must give a massive thank you to all our wonderful members and guests who donated to our bushfire appeal.

The RSL, Clubhouse and Bayswater combined raised $7,500, and we were happy to match this amount. We donated $15,000 in total, with $6,500 going to the Bushfire Appeal, $6,500 going to the Red Cross disaster relief and recovery fund, plus $2,000 to Drought Angels.

Congratulations to Rebecca Arnold, very happy winner of our Coca-Cola tinnie! Hope you and your family have heaps of fun on the water.

Sandra and Cherie were just two of our winners from our recent ‘$40,000 Cash Splash’ members promotion, both very happy winners.

Community Grant: As part of the Hervey Bay RSL Community Grants Program we were very happy to be able to assist Hervey Bay Rep Netball players with a $5000 grant. This money will be used to reduce the cost on family's to send these players to rep carnivals around the state.

Three very happy winners in our giant toy raffle, with over 70 prizes there were lots of happy winners. Always a popular day with the kids!

Fabulous STAFF!

We recently held our annual Staff Awards, across all our venues we currently have 218 wonderful employees. All staff enjoyed a terrific breakfast and coming together to congratulate the recipients of the 2019 Employees of the year. We believe our staff are our greatest asset, they all do a terrific job looking after our members and guests. The club was also very proud to recognise the 8 staff members with over 20 years service, plus another 48 staff with over 5 years service. What a fantastic team we have!

Sub Branch Report This is my first report for 2020 and I would like to wish all Members health and happiness.

The AGM for the Sub-Branch will have been and gone by the time of publication.

I welcome the new Committee and look forward to a successful year.

Anzac Day is approaching very quickly, and the timings are the same as last year Wrist Bands will be available from the Sub-Branch office from 1st April and please be aware that a wrist band is required for entry to the private members' functions for both the Gunfire Breakfast and luncheon after the Main Service. Another

change is that our members can have up to 3 guests and 4 children who must be related to the Member. More information will be available on our website.

Pensions and Wellbeing sections are extremely busy with claims and helping Veterans with support.

Just a reminder to all our Veteran’s we have a monthly ‘Veteran’s Day’ in the RSL Anzac Sportsbar. Held on the 1st DVA pay day of each month, from 11am - 1.30pm.

It’s a good excuse for a catch up and a coldie, with entertainment, raffles, a fun game of trivia and drinks at great prices.

March 12th. Everyone welcome, of course partners and friends are also welcome, it’s always nice to see new faces.
