Hervey Bay beginner line dancers get ready
LINE dancing continues to be popular in Hervey Bay, thanks to the many physical, mental and social benefits it offers, especially for seniors.
Hervey Bay’s first classes were started back in 1994 by the Bay’s dancing queen Elaine Hughes that’s nearly 30 years ago now.
With a background in nursing and working in the army, Elaine joked that she loved being in control.
There are many reasons that Elaine continues to love line dancing and she is excited to continue to introduce line dancing to newcomers with the beginner’s classes run from Friday 10th February.
“I love line dancing because of the friendships. It gives great companionship and friendship; I just love the social aspect of it.”
She said that there were so many lonely people at home looking for something to do and line dancing was a great social outlet as well as offering plenty of health benefits.
Ms Hughes said there were many health benefits for seniors in particular, it gets you moving again which in turn gives you good balance, improves your breathing and it’s good to give that brain a test by having to think about the steps.”
“You’re with people that you can interact with.”
“You don’t need a partner.”
Ms Hughes has been teaching dancing for a long time and said she is very professional in her approach.
She said her beginner’s classes keep you fit, healthy and happy by teaching step by step at a slow pace.
“Every step is cued out; I teach you how to turn and count to the music.”
She said they used lots of varied and interesting music, not just Country and Western music.
If you are interested to join, Ms Hughes said you just need sensible closedin shoes and comfortable clothes.
