Building a new Library and Council Offices which at the last time it was accessed was going to cost 100 million dollars minus the 40 million the Government gave them towards it.

When they outgrew the office in Bideford Street with the Library on the 2nd floor above them someone thought ahead and built the new Council Office in Tavistock Street on 5 acres of land, so if expansion was needed they had plenty

Community gets fired up over dogs on the beach

IF YOU spent any time on social media over the festive period, it would have been hard for you to escape the local Hervey Bay Community Groups lighting up over dogs on the beach.

I’ve been living on the Esplanade for over fifteen years, and I can assure you I’ve just about seen it all.

Little kids screaming that their little white fluffy has been attacked; owners yelling and abusing each other. It’s a weekly occurrence.

Last week I saw a guy riding his bike on the path across the road, followed by a gaggle of cross-bred rottweilers, all unrestrained, bounding behind.

That was a wow moment.

We have two staffies at our place, and we have

long since dismissed the idea of taking them down to the beach for a walk or swim. It’s simply not worth the drama.

I see it every day. People get out of their cars with fido off a lead, running madly down to the beach unrestrained, despite the fact that the grassed area is not considered off-leash.

Irresponsible dog owners on the beach that clearly do not understand the difference between off-leash on the beach and actually having your dog under control and responding to commands.

My personal favourite is the old chestnut, “Don’t worry – he’s just playing”.

Generally, most well-socialised dogs strive to avoid physical or aggressive confrontations. Dogs use body language to communicate a

The library was built where it is to co-exist with the University, and again land is available behind the library to expand there and utilize existing buildings.

It is a pity that Common Sense and future planning was alive and well back then.

Now Common Sense has flown out of the window as far as the present Council is concerned.

The placement of the present Council Offices in Tavistock is central and has parking

available right at the front door.

Same can be said about the library. I have heard that only 100 underground car parks are going to be built with this 5 floor eye sore.

The Council is going to extend other Council Parking times in the area for people who want to access this building they can.

Too bad for the elderly, people with disability or just young mothers with a baby in a pram or small children on a fine day are going to be disadvantaged.

Then think about these same residents during hot or

rainy weather trying to find a park and then having to walk further from car parks further away to access this building.

The 5 floors are out of sync with the other Council buildings in that area.

The Library, Community Centre and Art Centre. Even the University is only two floors and they flow from one to the other nicely.

This development starts in 2023 and ends 2025 and the entrance into the building site from Main Street will not only cause congestion but make people think twice about going to the small Main Street Shops that are there now, and

desire to interact or desire to avoid an aggressive encounter. Like people, not all dogs are natural or skilled communicators with members of their species.

This is a really tough one for the council to handle, and I would assume the vast majority of poor dog behaviour on the beach goes unreported.

I should hasten to add that there are also a whole bunch of very responsible dog owners, who do the right thing, all the time.

But what do you think? Do we need more signage educating owners about what is expected at dog-friendly beaches?

There is never enough car parks for the stores that are there now, then people using the ones outside those shops to go to the new Library or Council Office’s.

The cost is going to be so much more by the time it is completed and so unfair on the ratepayers of Hervey Bay who would like to see the 60 million plus of their rates go towards what they need and a benefit for all and not just a Castle in the sky for Council employees.

I have gone to the Council Office only one time this year.

I ask you how many times a year does anyone go to the Council Office when you can B-pay or make arrangements for money to come out of your bank regularly to cover the cost of your rates?

The same can be said about the library the younger generation use their phone or computer to access books to read online or for research for their studies as my daughter who is doing a full-time course and my Grandchildren who are in High School.

My husband and I used to borrow books to read but now read them online, so we don’t use the library anymore.

Fraser Coast Council should be ashamed of themselves.

The Maryborough Library is being refurbished and is only 30 minutes away, so we have access to two libraries if needed.

You can inter-library loan books to the Hervey Bay library that they send down from Maryborough if you don’t want to go into the Maryborough one.

Hopefully at the next Council elections, people will think long and hard about who they vote in to represent them.

That is what they are elected for, to represent us and what we, the ratepayers want money spent on and how it would benefit the whole of the Fraser Coast and not just Hervey Bay.

Maryborough doesn’t even have a Council Office anymore as it was demolished, so that should be addressed before building a new one in Hervey Bay.

I have heard that a new one is going to be built and 19 million was the cost, and it is going to be squeezed in between two existing buildings.

So more money is going to be borrowed for that office as well.

Also there are plans to build a car park near the PCYC in Hervey Bay for the Council

Employees who work will work in the new building and I don’t know how much that is going to cost.

This year alone 5 million dollars was raised by Council by auctioning off land with and without houses on them because of unpaid rates for this building.

So people suffering and losing their homes and land and the money is going towards a building for people to go to work in 8 hours a day, 5 days a week.

Too bad about people trying to pay already high rates to keep a roof over their heads and working hard to pay off their land or house repayments, then lose it all to the Council and their need for somewhere nicer to work out of.

We need new blood in the Council who put the ratepayer first.

The present Council seems to be comfortable in their decision making and not care about what those who they represent think about these decisions, that will mean higher rates to cover the loan and interest rates on the loans for these Council Offices.

We will all have to tighten our belts and do without so they can have a nice office

to work from. About 50% of the Fraser Coast Residents are over fifty and mostly on pensions, so they are finding it hard already without extra rates and if they can’t afford the rates having their land or homes auctioned off.

Shame on all the Councillors and the pressure they are putting on the residents that elected them to make decisions that would be a benefit not a burden to them to carry for a long time into the future. It only takes 6 Councillors to vote something through Council and the same 6 all seem to vote the same way, too bad about the other 5 Councillor’s and their concerns about council decisions.

In 2012 most of the Council, including the Mayor, who was a Councillor for 6 years before he became Mayor, were elected and some had already been on the Council before this.

Time for a new Council with some more responsible decisions being made before the excessive spending and debt gets too far out of hand and the pressure on residents becomes too much for some.

A message sent to the Mayor

Sirs, I think it is worthy of a mention that on 26/1/2023 it will be 10 years since that horrific storm robbed us of 5 metres of trees and dunes along the foreshore here.

After the storm at what is

now the end of this walkway there were a small group of gumtrees left standing, I have photos of those trees and we residents here are happy to say those trees are still here.

This is thanks to the work done by the councils workers involved and to the sand

pushes carried out over the ten years.

The walkway is also very usable, we think that all those people that have saved this area deserve a pat on the back and a mention in your dispatches.

National Art prize set to put spotlight on Bay gallery

Fraser Coast National Art Prize is set to draw attention from across the country as artists vie for the $25,000 major acquisitive prize.

The new initiative of the Hervey Bay Regional Gallery hopes to explore an artist’s relationship with the environment through contemporary art.

Named Girra, the Butchulla word for sand, the title nods to the region’s unique natural features including the world’s largest sand island K’gari, while asking artists to consider how their work relates to the natural environment.

Councillor David Lewis said entries would open on 1 May

2023 until 26 June 2023, with an exhibition of the finalist’s work opening on 23 September 2023.

“Entrants will be invited to submit works that demonstrate a conceptual engagement with the intersection of people, place and the environment,” he said.

“The exhibition is a fantastic opportunity for locals to experience a diverse selection of acclaimed artwork in their backyard, as well as host artists and tourists drawn to the region.”

Cr Lewis said Girra was the next step forward in making the Fraser Coast a significant cultural destination.

“Our aim is to contribute to

a sustainable creative economy and promote the Hervey Bay Regional Gallery as part of the region’s tourism experience,” he said.

The Major Prize winner will be awarded a $25,000 acquisitive prize and their work will become a significant early acquisition for the newly focused art collection of the Fraser Coast.

New Bunnings Hervey Bay opens its doors

RESIDENTS in Hervey Bay are now able to access an even wider range of home and lifestyle products close to home, with Bunnings opening its doors to the new $59 million dollar store.

It has replaced the existing store and Trade Centre in Hervey Bay, bringing them together to form a 17,000sqm site with everything under the one roof.

The store is supported by 310 dedicated team members, including 100 newly created roles.

The main retail area is around 5,000 square metres larger than its predecessor, providing the community with access to a six-lane drive-thru timber yard, a large paint department, tool shop, nursery, a Kitchen Design Centre and over 430 carparks.

“The team had been working tirelessly to ensure the store was ready for customers when the doors opened to the new Bunnings Warehouse for the first time,” said Complex Manager, Jackie Roberts.

Among the team are skilled experts in areas such as timber, tools, paint, kitchens, plumbing, garden and outdoor living, all who are on hand to provide residents with advice on their

DIY project needs.

As part of the store opening celebrations, the team provided some hands-on support to local community groups.

“The team really enjoyed working alongside the Hervey Bay Spinners, Weavers & Fibre Artists to refurbish the historic Old Schoolhouse and meet some passionate local residents,” Jackie said.

“We helped landscape the surrounding garden and freshen up the deck, entrance stairs and ramp, making the

entrance safer. We love getting out into the community and look forward to providing more assistance to local groups in the future.”

The new store also has a range of sustainability initiatives that will reduce its environmental impact including LED lighting, on-site water reuse and solar energy.

The new Bunnings Warehouse is located on the corner of Main and McLiver Street, directly behind the old store.

Council blood donation challenge issued to Bundy

FRASER Coast Regional Council has thrown down the gauntlet to Bundaberg Regional Council to see which Council can donate the most blood and plasma in 2023.

The 12-month Red Cross Lifeblood Council challenge was the brainchild of Fraser Coast Councillors to increase and raise awareness for life-saving blood and plasma donations.

Deputy Mayor Paul Truscott said Councillors and Council employees from both Councils were regular donors and the blood challenge was a great way to increase donations through a bit of friendly competition.

“Both of our Councils already participate in the annual three-month Local Government Blood Challenge which runs from July to September so this will up the ante and see us compete for the year,” Cr Truscott said.

“We know one in three people will need a blood or plasma donation at some point in their life yet only one in 30 donates.

“Lifeblood needs more than 1.6 million donations every year to meet the demand for blood and blood products.

“This friendly challenge is a chance for the Fraser Coast and Bundaberg Councillors and staff to roll up our sleeves

to do our bit to assist those in need.”

The challenge will start on 1 January 2023 and finish 31 December 2023.

Blood donations can be made every three months while plasma can be donated every two weeks.

Recent changes mean those living in the UK between 1980 and 1986 can now donate as well, while most medications don’t affect donations.

Tender awarded for work at Scarness Caravan Park

THE $3.2MILLION contract to build the roads and install the underground power, water and sewerage systems for Phase One of the Scarness Caravan Park redevelopment has been awarded to Murphy Builders.

The work will start early in the year and will focus on the western half of the caravan park.

“The project will also include fencing and the start of the landscaping,” Cr Lee said.

While some trees will have to be removed, these will be replaced on a minimum two for one basis with native and other species that already exist in the caravan park and along the foreshore.

“While the work is underway

the eastern section of the park will remain operational.

“The aim is to redevelop the park in two stages, opening each of the new areas progressively as they are completed with all works completed by 2024,” Cr Lee said.

“Current timing estimates, which are subject to supply chain challenges and weather impacts, indicate that the park will be fully operational in 2024.

“It is anticipated that the tenders for the building works, including the new manager’s office, camp kitchen and park amenities will be advertised in January.

“The Scarness Caravan Park is ideally located on the

Esplanade and attracts many visitors to the Fraser Coast. It provides an important boost to the local tourism industry and regional economy.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused while the work is carried out, but the end result will be a more modern caravan park, catering for the needs of today’s tourists.”

Council received $200,000 towards the project from the State Department of Tourism, Innovation and Sport.

Free book for completing the Playtime Passport

EXPLORING the region and Fraser Coast Libraries’ services with the new Playtime Passport can score young families stickers, a free book and a host of special memories.

Fraser Coast Mayor George Seymour said the free passport was designed to encourage families with children up to the age of five to talk, read, sing and play around the region’s fantastic beaches, parks, gardens, galleries, attractions and library branches.

“Our new playtime passport provides plenty of terrific ideas for igniting children’s curiosity by giving them opportunities to explore which helps to build strong connections in their brains,” he said.

“Boosting the brain development of children in the first five years builds strong neural connections which play a key role in learning and

behaviour throughout life.

“Library staff will hand out a sticker for each play activity completed and when all 24 activities are done, families can head to their nearest library branch to collect a beautiful book.”

Cr Seymour said playing was not only fun, it also helped youngsters learn to use words, solve their own problems, be creative and practise new skills.

“Playing outdoors can help to build big and little muscles which are important in helping children sit still and concentrate when they start school,” he said.

“Spending time interacting with your children in their early years creates wonderful memories and builds a strong foundation for a lifetime of growth and development.”

WetSide boardwalk soon to be removed

THE DAMAGED boardwalk overlooking the ocean at WetSide will be removed after being buffeted by big seas from storms and king tides.

Fraser Coast Regional Councillor Jade Wellings said WetSide was a popular place for both locals and tourists to visit, regularly receiving excellent reviews and international TripAdvisor awards.

“WetSide is a fantastic place to keep cool and have fun with something for everyone, including waterslides, a water play arena, TotSide for under 5s play, and a fountain light

show, along with a new Aqua Ninja course that is the first of its kind in Australia,” she said.

“Unfortunately, the boardwalk overlooking the ocean is badly affected by erosion caused by big seas and storms in the past 10 years.

“The beachfront has been severely affected by erosion which has exposed the foundations for the boardwalk and shade sails making it unsafe.

“While Council develops a long-term solution to beach erosion at the site, some beach renourishing and replanting works will be undertaken in front of WetSide to boost

protection of the waterpark.

“The long-term solutions may include a permanent revetment barricade or stone or sand-filled bags.

“Council will investigate the feasibility of constructing a revetment wall in front of WetSide as outlined in a report from GHD in 2017.”

At a meeting on Wednesday December 14 Council decided to also investigate options to maintain access to the beach from WetSide after the boardwalk is removed and improving accessibility to the adjacent nearby coffee and food outlets.

Ashleigh, a mother of four children under the age of 12 years, faced a difficult Christmas last year with the loss of her husband to a mental illness.

Like many families who have lost loved ones during the year, her focus was on her children and her attempt to put a smile on their faces after a tragic year.

What she was not expecting was a gift from a community organisation that provided a once in a lifetime opportunity to view the Christmas Lights and spirit of the region from

the sky.

Community Flights is a not for profit organisation that provides free, flexible and safe transport service for rural and remote Queenslanders struggling with ongoing longdistance medical treatment.

Their aircraft can reach rural airstrips cutting travel time, cost and inconvenience, allowing health service support that previously was out of reach.

The family enjoyed an evening flight that showed the Christmas Lights of the Fraser Coast and how the community celebrates with the colourful lights.

CEO and founder of Community Flights, Mark McMurtrie, was made aware of the family’s story through another community group,

Fraser Coast Mates, and instantly wanted to provide the children with a flight that would lift their spirits leading into Christmas.

“I’m glad they had 15 minutes taking their mind away from it all,” said Mr McMurtrie.

“Their youngest is the same age as my son... absolutely devastating that he’ll miss making memories to cherish forever. I’m just pleased to help the family in a small way.”

Ashleigh has expressed her gratitude to Community Flights, and everyone involved in making the evening happen.

“I’m just thankful for the support we have received from so many and the generous nature of groups like Community Flights.”

All African Tulip trees are set to be removed

ALL AFRICAN Tulip Trees in Fraser Coast Regional Council owned parks and gardens will have been removed by the end of March 2023.

Mayor George Seymour said Council introduced an African Tulip Trees eradication program in December 2020, and it was fantastic to see the progress that had been made.

“The trees were introduced to Australia and have become a serious environmental weed,” Cr Seymour said.

“They are highly invasive and form dense stands in gullies and along streams, crowding out native vegetation. They are also extremely harmful to native stingless bees.”

After identifying the locations of the trees and then removing trees on Council land, the next stage of the African Tulip Tree eradication program will focus on education to help see

the removal of the trees from private properties.

Council have noted close to 1,000 African Tulip Trees on private property and have issued more than 500 educational notices to affected property owners.

“Since receiving the notice a significant number residents have confirmed they have removed the trees,” Cr Seymour said.

Fraser Coast residents who eradicate African Tulip Trees from their land can receive a free native seedling from Council for each tree they remove.

“Residents only need to take a photo of the tree before it is removed and after it is removed to be eligible for the replacement seedling,” Cr Seymour said.

“The African Tulip Tree tends to reshoot and send up several new suckers when not treated

with herbicide before or after being cut.”

Residents can email the photos to OpenSpace&environment@ frasercoast.qld.gov.au to arrange the replacement seedling.

The African Tulip Tree is a Category 3 restricted invasive plant under the Biosecurity Act 2014.

The tropical Africa native was popular as an ornamental garden tree or street tree in tropical and subtropical parts of Queensland due to its showy, red tulip-shaped flowers.

WetSide records biggest week of visitors ever

MORE than ten thousand people visited Hervey Bay’s WetSide Water Park from Boxing Day to New Year’s Eve 2022 – the largest number of visitors in a week since the park opened 13 years ago.

Fraser Coast Mayor George Seymour said it was fantastic to see the facility going from strength to strength, with WetSide proving popular with both local residents and visitors to the region.

“WetSide is a great place to keep cool and have fun with something for everyone, including waterslides, a water play arena, TotSide for under 5s play as well as a new Aqua Ninja course that is the first of its kind in Australia,” he said.

“Council undertook an extensive maintenance

program in 2022, including resurfacing all the softfall in the main area, so it is terrific to see almost 50,000 people have made the most of the refreshed facility since it reopened in October.

“Having more than ten thousand people visit WetSide in the last six days of 2022 shows just how much the water park is enjoyed by the community and how important it is a tourist attraction.”

Cr Seymour said more than 1000 people had challenged themselves on the Aqua Ninja adventure course since it opened on 5 November 2022.

“The waterslides also continue to be a hit with more than 5000 slide passes sold between October and December 2022,” he said.

Cr Seymour said WetSide regularly received excellent reviews on tourism websites and magazines.

“WetSide has gained global attention in recent years and is currently ranked one of the best water parks in Australia,” he said.

Cr Seymour said the WetSide Water Park was an important part of the Fraser Coast Regional Council’s plan to build better communities together, maintain our unique lifestyle and grow our local economy.

FRASER Coast dog owners have been praised for their good behaviour with 17,610 dogs re-registered so far this year.

Cr Zane O’Keefe encouraged dog owners who were yet to register their dogs to do so as soon as possible.

“Having a dog can provide a lot of enjoyment and companionship but also comes with commitments and responsibilities, including ensuring they are registered every year as required under Queensland Government legislation,” he said.

“Council issued just over 21,000 dog registration notices in late September and about 3,800 owners are yet to respond.”

At a meeting on Wednesday 14 December Council approved the annual dog registration inspection program to start on 1 March 2023 and run through to the

end of August.

Council staff and contractors conducting the inspections will visit homes across the region between 7am and 5pm Monday to Saturday.

While officers hope to complete the inspection without having to enter a property, they do have power under the Animal Management (Cats and Dogs) Act 2008 to enter a property.

Cr O’Keefe said registering animals had benefits for owners.

“If an animal is found wandering or is taken to the pound, registered dogs can be reunited with their owners very quickly,” he said.

“It is harder to reunite dogs with their owners when they are unregistered or not microchipped, or the information on the microchip is out of date.

“It is important those details are kept up to date with

Council and the group which holds your pet’s microchip data.

“And remember, if you have a new dog, registration is free the first time you register your animal in the Fraser Coast region.”

Dog registration fees help pay for animal management, training programs and provides for improved access to dogfriendly open spaces.”

Owners found with an unregistered dog are liable for the $287 fine, as well as the cost of registration.

Wedding bells were ringing at Baycrest

OVER 50 years apart didn’t change the love Bolton Clarke Baycrest retirement village residents Bob Crothers and Anette Young have always had for one another.

Finally tying the knot on Wednesday 28 December 2022, Annie and Bob will be joined by their fellow residents at the Baycrest retirement village hall to seal the deal.

“We were always in love and once we reconnected three years ago, he travelled over 1000 kilometers to get to me and everything was the same as it was 50-odd years ago,” Annie said.

“I do wonder what would have happened if we had gotten together all those years ago but anyway we are

together now and we will live out the rest of our lives happy.

“My dream has come true because I am now Mrs Crothers and that’s all I’ve ever wanted to be after all these years,” she said.

After meeting at a dance when Annie was 15 and Bob was 17, it was love at first sight.

“Being so young, he went back to Queensland and I stayed where I was in Junee because I was too young and mum and dad wouldn’t have let me go anywhere.

“I never got over him and he never forgot me.

“He reached out to me a couple of times over those 50 years but I needed to raise my children and I didn’t have time for love.”

After reconnecting through an old friend three-years ago, Bob wasn’t going to take his chances this time and popped the questions right away.

“We were out the front of my hairdresser, mind you I was in Wagga for 30 years so everyone knew me, and I knew everyone and here Bob was on one knee in the carpark of the shopping centre.

“All the girls were hanging out the hairdressers watching and he even had my dog, Elvis, with him.”

After three years together and just over two years at Baycrest retirement village, Annie and Bob decided to tie the knot in the place they love the most –their home.

Bob and Annette finally tie the knot

ANDY Riley was born in tropical North Queensland half a century ago and had an idyllic childhood with her two younger siblings, surrounded by the open countryside waiting to be explored.

Growing up on farms was hard work, but Andy’s parents always ensured the kids had a roof over their heads, a meal on the table, a decent education and endless love and support.

Always around animals on the farm, it wasn’t until Andy was sixteen that she got her first horse and started competing with the Woodford Pony Club in competitions. Many years later, after making

the move to Hervey Bay, she got back into riding and has been an active member locally with a variety of different disciplines and clubs across the Fraser Coast.

“Andy says, “I only have one horse these days, a Quarter Horse named Dusty. He has a big heart and lots of personality. I love getting together with my equine friends and taking the horses for a ride and a swim at the beach down at Dundowran. It is a fantastic way for all of us to chill out and relax”.

Andy met her husband of eleven years at Marty’s, now known as the Beach House Hotel.

“My husband is my best friend and the love of my life. We always try to have fun and laugh, as life is too short. Each year we try to experience new things as we would rather be able to talk about what we’ve done and where we’ve been rather than wishing we had”, said Andy.

Andy continues, “I also have a stepson who has had some great achievements. My Husband and I am immensely proud of him.

With a passion for assisting the care sectors throughout our region, Andy started a business with a good friend and work colleague who just happened to share the same views and

passions for the industry. So, Assistance Industry Resourcing (AIR) was born with a strong focus on delivering responsive solutions for the social assistance sector across our region.

Andy has also run a networking group in Hervey Bay for local organisations working in this sector for the last eighteen years – HB_ DING (Hervey Bay District Interagency Networking Group. The result has seen local organisations and independent contractors come together, network, share information and work collaboratively. Working smarter, not harder.

Andy has a big heart and has seen firsthand how unpredictable life can be, especially where mother nature is concerned. Early last year, she helped with the huge cleanup after both Maryborough floods, which was a traumatic event for many.

“When you see the pain on a person’s face when they have lost everything that they own, standing there in the middle of their home with every surface covered in putrid mud, it doesn’t get much harder.

“For me, there was such a feeling of guilt knowing that I was going home to a warm bed and a hot meal. This was one of the most challenging events

I have ever been involved in. “Out of the experience, I have made some amazing lifelong friends that I cherish and will always be grateful to the people who helped out and offered their support”.

Reflecting on the year ahead, Andy said, “My new year’s resolution is to practise what I preach and to take time for myself. I love serving my community, it gives me great pleasure, but I know that I must be kind to myself too. A burnt-out me is of no use to anyone.

“We are so lucky to have such amazing people in this community. It truly warms my heart!”

Local sports stars on the rise in 2023

SPORT: Hervey Bay has produced many incredible athletes that mix with the best in the world and prove that the region develops topclass athletes.

Examples include Matt Hauser, J’Maine

This gifted sportsperson won national titles in two sports in 2022, softball and hockey, winning the under-15 boys hockey title and the under-14 softball titles a week apart.

He was then named to the Australian under-14 softball squad. He currently plays both sports locally and is a member of the Hervey Bay Brothers men’s hockey team.

Hopgood, Beth Mooney and Keira Stephens, all at the top of their fields.

The next crop of young stars is rising, and here are a few of the names we need to keep an eye on and support as they chase their sporting dreams.

The young triathlete from Hervey Bay is a well-rounded athlete who, after gaining a fourth spot on the Australian triathlon team for the World Junior Championships, came through to claim silver and announce his credentials to the world.

Schoff

The older of the two cycling brothers Harry Schoff, will race at the Road National Championships this week in Ballarat, Victoria. Riding both road and track races, he has been named in both state teams, with his trajectory continuing to rise.

This young 14-year-old touch football and surf lifesaver is quickly making a name for herself on the sand of our local beaches.

After competing last year at the Interbranch championships for the first time, she returned this year to win the under-14 female beach sprint.

These are only a few of our outstanding young athletes making an impact and proving that the future is bright for Hervey Bay sports.

Younger brother Oscar recently returned from the Queensland track championships with gold medals in Individual Pursuit, Points Races, and silver in time trials. He also was named to the Queensland team to race later this year.
