New hospice to improve FROZEN care for Fraser Coast locals MEALS MEALS ON WHEELS

THE COALITION Government has welcomed the official opening of the new Fraser Coast Hospice, which will help deliver compassionate care to locals at one of the most vulnerable times in their lives. The facility, which received $7 million in funding through the Hinkler Regional Deal, will provide a real alternative for people approaching their end of life, including those with a terminal illness. Minister for Health and Aged Care, Greg Hunt, said the opening of the Fraser Coast Hospice was an important development for this region, providing access to appropriate palliative care for local families and communities. “Being able to access palliative care at the Fraser Coast Hospice will give locals an alternative to their home or hospital. It also means staff are available around the clock to assist and ensure patients

and their families have all the support they require,” Minister Hunt said. “The Coalition Government is committed to supporting good quality, accessible palliative care as an important component of the health and aged care systems.” The Fraser Coast Hospice will cater for people suffering from terminal illness, including those who live in rural and remote areas, the financially or socially disadvantaged, people with cancer, young people and seniors. Federal Member for Hinkler Keith Pitt said the hospice will be a place of peace and compassionate care for those people who are approaching the end of their life. “For the people of Bundaberg, Hervey Bay and the rest of the Fraser Coast, this hospice will mean they can be close to family and friends and still access professional care at

what is an emotional and trying time,” Mr Pitt said. “The construction of the hospice has contributed to the local economy, with the creation of dozens of local jobs in construction and support sectors, and for the longer term through ongoing operation of the facility.” The Fraser Coast Hospice has secured a 25-year peppercorn lease near the existing medical precinct from the Fraser Coast Regional Council, with the strong support of Mayor George Seymour. Mayor Seymour said Council was pleased to bring this facility to the Fraser Coast and support the association through a peppercorn lease of land on Urraween Road. “This is a really significant day for the Fraser Coast as we continue to ensure we have the range of medical and support services our region needs,” Mayor Seymour said.

Assistant Minister for Regional Development and Territories Nola Marino said the Hospice was an important part of the Hinkler Regional Deal’s vision. “The Hinkler Regional Deal will drive economic development for the region and improved social outcomes. “The Fraser Coast Hospice project demonstrates how the deal is responding to the liveability needs of the community and ageing population. “The Hospice will deliver relief and comfort for care recipients whilst offering support for families.” The Hinkler Regional Deal is a five-year commitment between the Australian Government, Bundaberg Regional Council and Fraser Coast Regional Council for the Bundaberg and Hervey Bay region and its surrounds.

HERVEY Bay Emergency Services Cadets (ESC) celebrated the official re-launch of their unit recently. With 22 ESC units across Queensland, the free program for young people aged 12 to 17 years-old typically operates from existing emergency service facilities such as Fire and Rescue stations, Rural Fire Brigades or State Emergency Service facilities. Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) Deputy Commissioner Michael Wassing said the program taught cadets valuable life skills. “Cadets learns a range of emergency response and life skills such as building resilience, interacting with community mentors and emergency services personnel, developing leadership skills and a passion for volunteering,”

said Mr Wassing. “The program helps young adults find their purpose in the community through exposure to local emergency services.” Representing Minister for Fire and Emergency Services, Mark Ryan, Member for Hervey Bay, Adrian Tantari, said the launch celebrated the commitment of local adult volunteers and the vibrant cohort of cadets they mentor. “After a decade of operation, the Hervey Bay ESC Unit was temporarily in recess. “However, the emergency services community rallied together to re-establish this invaluable youth and community development program. “This program has a strong focus on ‘building the next generation of emergency service volunteers’ by engaging young people in diverse

Keno player becomes instant millionaire A HERVEY Bay man has become an instant millionaire after a casual game of Keno at the Beach House Hotel in Scarness on the October long weekend. The man in his 60s held a Keno Classic 10 Spot entry in draw 662, delivering him a $1,945,733.90 prize. The winning dad, who wishes to remain anonymous, shared he’d marked his winning entry with a blend of 10 special numbers he’d been using for years. Owner of the Beach House Hotel Janet Persal said the winner was one of their regular patrons who often comes in and plays Keno. She said the hotel staff were notified of the Saturday morning win before the man realised, “Our duty manager went up to him and reminded him to check his ticket just in case because he hadn't checked it yet.” The winner recounted to a Keno official, “I didn’t see the draw and was about to go home when someone told me there’d been a win in the hotel and I had better check my ticket.” “It didn’t really sink in then, but it’s a great feeling now! “It’s not every day you win that kind of money. ONE of Hervey Bay’s busiest road intersections looks set for a major upgrade when the $56 million Bunnings development on the corner of McLiver Street and Main Street goes ahead. Fraser Coast Regional Council have considered a report on traffic issues at the intersection and resolved to consider funding a new leftturn slip lane into Main Street, and a signalised pedestrian crossing as part of the 2021/22 capital works budget. Cr David Lee said the intersection of Main Street and McLiver Street near the Pialba Aldi and Stockland Shopping Centre often experienced significant congestion with traffic backing up into the Stockland car park. “Due to the limited length of road in McLiver Street

between the roundabout into Aldi and the traffic lights, congestion can occur which blocks the flow of traffic into Aldi,” he said. “A traffic analysis of the intersection has determined that a left-turn slip lane from McLiver Street into Main Street would be the best way to address congestion issues and improve the efficient operations of the traffic signals, provided there is sufficient lane length.” Cr Lee said the Bunnings development application recently approved by Council imposed several conditions around roadworks, such as a new right turn lane into McLiver Street, to improve traffic flow at the intersection. “The Bunnings development has provided an opportunity for Council to work

collaboratively to achieve a substantial upgrade to the Main Street and McLiver Street traffic signals,” he said. “Bunnings expect to be operational on the new site by June 2022, which means physical works are likely to start in mid-2021. “For its part, Council will do some detailed design work in early 2021 with capital works funding towards an intersection upgrade to be considered as part of the 2021/22 budget.” Cr Lee said he would be doing everything that he reasonably could to work with and listen to the legitimate concerns of local residents about the proposed Bunnings development. The report noted that Council officers would also liaise with Stockland Shopping

Legal Jargon Would you rather have a client who committed a crime malum in se or malum prohibitum? Neither. I would rather have a client who is innocent – Elle Woods.

As much as we love the movie Legally Blonde here in the office, we also value plain English as a mechanism for communication! Often legal language can be confusing – particularly when it is in Latin. So we thought for this week’s column we would share with you a list of some of our favourite Latin legal terminology. 1. Habeus Corpus – This is an injunction (also known as a writ) used to challenge the lawfulness of detaining someone. A writ of Habeus Corpus is used to get someone out of remand if it can be established that they should not have been detained in the first place. 2. Res Judicata – This is also known as “Double Jeopardy”. You cannot be charged with the same offence twice – also you cannot bring a legal action for the same set of facts more than once. There is a really interesting case from Victoria about multiple speed fines within 50m of eachother and Res Judicata! 3. Void Abinitio – Its like it never happened. 4. Affidavit – This is a sworn statement that can be used as evidence in Court. It is the same as giving oral evidence, only it

is written. You can still be cross examined on the contents of the statement at Trial just like if you have given the statement in an open Court. 5. Caveat – In Latin this means “a warning”. In property law it means an interest registered on the title to warn purchasers that someone else needs to be informed of what is going on before the transfer occurs. Generally, I will put a caveat on this article that it is my opinion and to exercise your own diligence before relying on any of my statements. 6. Contra Proferentem – If the meaning of terms in a contract are not clear and there is a dispute, then the meaning goes against whomever drafted the document. 7. De Novo – Means brand new, starting again from scratch – you will usually hear this in administrative law, like when you challenge a government decision. The decision becomes “de novo”, so you start again and act as though the evidence has not been provided to the decision maker before. Khanacross roars into the Bay

THE HERVEY Bay Motorsports Association hosted the Qld Khanacross Titles across the October long weekend, bringing almost forty competitors from across the state. Motorsports Association representative Chris Hughes heralded the weekend as a huge success. “Events like this bring money into our region and showcase the Fraser Coast as a beautiful place to visit and live.” “The weekend was an enormous success and simply could not have gone ahead without the drive of the committee and the invaluable assistance of volunteers, flaggies, canteen staff, and of course drivers and their crews.” “We get asked a lot about what Khanacross is, and how it fits in with other motor sports. “It’s a competition conducted on unsealed surfaces, bitumen or a combination of both and involving a series of timed tests of various layouts. Drivers are subjected to the

acceleration, braking and general manoeuvrability of their vehicle, and the driver's skill and judgement. “The course is marked by arrows or direction markers. “We fit in between motorkhanas and rally sprints, introducing higher speeds whilst not requiring high levels of vehicle modification.” The Hervey Bay Motorsports Association describes the sport as one of the cheapest forms of motorsports, with junior competitions commencing from just age 12. “Our club has grown a lot over the last few years, and it really represents a grassroots, entry-level to motorsport,” Chris said. “Both everyday road cars and purpose-built ‘specials’ can be used in motorkhanas. “The car does not need to be road registered but is required to be safe for use. “For example, the seats must be securely attached to the bodywork, it must have seatbelts, the brake pedal

must feel appropriately firm, the steering must not have excessive play and the tyres should have legal tread and be not significantly damaged. “The seatbelts must be of at least three-point standard (lapsash), appropriately attached and in good condition. “There are some technical requirements like the throttle cable having two return springs and the positive battery terminal having an insulating cover, both of which are safety requirements for registering a modern car. However, you will find the vast majority of cars are compliant without modification.” “The best way to get involved is to join a Car Club like The Hervey Bay Motorsports Association. You will need a CAMS Licence for events, which we can help you with and is available through clubs. Then it is just a matter of finding out what events are on.”

Red Bike Adventures donated $20,000 to Reconnect Youth Centre to support mental health THE HERVEY Bay Neighbourhood Centre will be able to make mental health services easier to access thanks to an incredible $20,000 donation. Red Bike Adventures made the donation this week after fundraising in the community. Following discussions with the Reconnect Youth Centre team, the Red Bike team became aware of the challenges many of the community’s most vulnerable faced when trying to access mental health services. Reconnect Youth Centre Coordinator, Melissa Lay, said the support from Red Bike would make a major difference in the lives of people needing mental health support.

“We were so excited to get the conversation started around the mental health issues we’re having in the area,” Melissa said. “We’re struggling to get support straight away when our clients need early intervention, before things get really bad and we end up with the high suicide rates we have been seeing.” While the Hervey Bay Neighbourhood Centre does not directly offer mental health services, the donated funds will be used to support existing Reconnect Youth Centre clients to access help from local practitioners. “We can get in on the ground and offer those support

services where they can see a mental health practitioner straight away,” Melissa said. “It may be they’re seeing a practitioner now and have run out of money. “We’re not using the money ourselves, it’s going to practitioners in mental health support.” If you would like to support Red Bike Adventures, find them on Facebook or visit www. redbike.org.au. Funding food for the homeless

Hervey Bay volunteers Josie Street and Trish Hummerston Recycling bottles and cans is a great way to help the environment and pocket some cash in return. However, when you’re collecting to buy expensive essential items for the homeless like toiletries, tents, backpacks and breakfast twice a week, collecting 10c per recyclable doesn’t go very far. That’s why the Hervey Bay RSL has stepped in to give Hervey Bay volunteers Trish Hummerston and Josie Street a helping hand with a $2400 Community Grant. The two ladies are not government funded, nor do they have a band of volunteers behind them. They are simply Trish and Josie Helping the Homeless; just two passionate ladies who want to give back some dignity to those living on the streets. They started the cause about a year ago to provide those in need with backpacks filled with essentials like soap, toothbrush and toothpaste, a brush, sanitary items for the ladies, roll on bug repellent, and more. They have also extended their volunteering to host a continental breakfast for about 40 homeless each Tuesday and Thursday at the back of the Hervey Bay Community Centre, which can continue with help from the RSL grant. The guests can fill their stomachs for the day with a choice of four types of cereal,

fruit, fruit cups, toast, milk, tea, coffee, sandwiches and more. They also receive a takeaway meal for the day. “The RSL grant will help us purchase more food as we are growing in numbers daily because they are hungry and can go for a day or two without food,” Trish said. “We can also provide tents, back packs, and mats to make them comfortable”. “The homeless are so important to us, and they are extremely grateful to us for giving them food and other items. We all talk to each other and they treat the breakfast as a safe meeting place.” Josie also freezes water bottles, donated by the Hervey Bay RSL, before each breakfast so the guests can take away a cold drink of water for the day, and Trish boils two dozen eggs the night before ready to hand out for a protein fix. With no paperwork in sight, no referrals to aid agencies and absolutely no judgement, the ones that turn up each week have found an unmeasurable amount of trust in the wonderful women they refer to as “The Ladies”. From point to pier and end with a ginger beer MORE than 180 people, dressed in blue, took part in a 26 kilometres walking challenge along the Hervey Bay Esplanade last weekend for a good cause. ‘Walk Sterny’s Way’ was organised by the St James Lutheran College community to honour the wishes of late teacher and activist Christian Stern. The event was based on the ‘Walk My Way’ events that started in the Adelaide Hills in 2017, where participants follow the 26 kilometre journey German pioneering women would take to deliver their produce to markets in Adelaide. The walk mirrors the journey that thousands of refugees take to find safety and shelter. “It was Christian’s dream to do a Walk My Way in his beloved Hervey Bay. He came up with the catch phrase ‘Walk from Point to Pier and end with a ginger beer’,” said Kirra Lewis from Australian Lutheran World Service (ALWS). Christian Stern had a dream to support needy communities in developing countries such as Cambodia, Indonesia and Nepal. In 2018 Christian joined the AWLS team, the overseas aid and development agency of the Lutheran Church of Australia as a “Community Action Officer.”

Burrum District Community Men’s Shed at a Zone meeting THE BURRUM District Community Men’s Shed will be crafting a little more, thanks to the Fraser Coast Regional Council’s introduction of the Rapid Response Grants Program. These grants allow not-forprofit community groups, like the Men’s Shed, to access funds quickly and efficiently. For successful applicants, funds are made available shortly after the grants close, thus making sure that the price of goods being sought has not increased since quotes were obtained. This was the case for the Burrum District Community Men’s Shed recently when they successfully received funding for an additional shed. “The volatility in the price of steel put this project in danger of running over budget; however, we were fortunate in dealing with a local company, so we were able to curtail the over-run,” President John Laffin said.

“In the 2020-2021 round of grants, we were fortunate to receive funding in rounds four and five. “We received $1980 to have our metal working shed re-engineered to allow for certification to bring it into line with the current building code. “We also received $5775.67 to purchase and have installed automatic blast gates on six of our woodworking machines to ensure that our dust extraction machine is working at peak efficiency.” “Due to the carcinogenic nature of wood dust, it is absolutely imperative that as much dust as possible is removed from our workshop environment.” The Men’s Shed movement has proven to be an effective way of engaging men in their communities, with sheds creating a comfortable environment for men to work together on meaningful projects whilst sharing skills with other men.

“Men’s Sheds play a vital role in preventing social isolation and offer thousands of men of all ages a safe and friendly environment where they can work on projects together while building strong social connections.” Members of the shed make things, fix things, and support each other and their community to promote men's general, social, emotional, and physical well-being. More than 1,000 Men’s Sheds across Australia are an integral part of the local communities. The underlying theme is that sheds are a unique wellbeing and health initiative where discussions on Men’s health are encouraged through guest speakers. This funding provided by the Fraser Coast Regional Council allows the Burrum District Community Men’s Shed to continue to support Men’s Health in the community.

The Advertiser spoke to Dundowran pineapple farmer Fenn Nielsen who said he is grateful his farm, Nielsen Farming Co is doing well and hasn’t been negatively impacted by the same issues facing other growers around the country. Mr Nielsen said, “The fresh market has got an oversupply of what they call hybrid pineapple; that’s the topless variety.” “The hybrid varieties don’t process very well into tins for canned pineapple. They are mostly sold to cruise ships and large restaurants down south that have been impacted by COVID.” “We mainly grow the original older style varieties and are having a great year!” He said they grow the Cayenne variety which is

Since COVID-19, many have had labour shortages in the

farming industry with fewer backpackers or international workers. Mr Nielsen was happy that his long-running farm continued only to employ locals. Nielsons grow pineapples year-round and have been in continuous production for 48 years. Fenn is the sixth generation of pineapple growers in the family and loves eating them every day. “They're just coming into their best eating time now.”

He encourages everyone to get on board with the Halloween pineapple carving initiative, "Carve it out, the kids will love it, you can make different faces in it.” About 35 million pineapples are produced in Australia every year, primarily grown in Queensland between the Sunshine Coast and Mareeba to ensure a juicy fresh fruit year-round supply. New members appointed to RADF

The company received RADF funding to build the puppet for its production of Shrek The Musical and as a starting point to expand the use of puppetry in live theatre regionally. FRASER Coast musician Robert Mackay has been appointed to the 2021/22 Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) Advisory Committee. Mr Mackay is one of two new members who were appointed for a two-year term to the committee. The other new member is Senior Lecturer in Arts at the University of Southern Queensland Dr Katie Burke. The remainder of the committee are Andre Carpenter, Kym Latter, Matthew Richers and David Coleman. Councillor Phil Truscott was re-appointed as committee chairman and will be joined by Councillor James Hansen. “The committee consists of independent community members who advise Council

on matters relating to the Fraser Coast RADF program,” Cr Phil Truscott said. “The Fraser Coast has a vibrant arts scene and the RADF grants help local artists develop their skills, stage exhibitions and events or bring experts to the region for workshops.” The Regional Arts Development Fund is a partnership between state and local government which invests in quality arts and cultural experiences across Queensland based on priorities determined locally. RADF promotes the role and value of arts, culture, and heritage as key drivers to support diversity and inclusivity; grow strong regions; and provide training, education and employment opportunities for Queensland

In August 2021, Council was awarded $49,500 by Arts Queensland for the 2021/22 program which will be combined with $75,000 from Council to create a $124,500 funding pool for grants. The funds are allocated to a number of programs including $17,000 to seedfund high calibre arts and cultural experiences and touring initiatives to visit the region; and $20,000 to develop collaborative opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander arts and cultural practitioners and $45,000 for the RADF grants pool. FRASER Coast residents are being encouraged to turn off their taps for 12 hours as part of a National Water Week campaign later this month aimed at creating awareness around how and when we use water. Deputy Mayor Darren Everard said Fraser Coast Regional Council was supporting the ‘Water Night’ 2021 initiative on Thursday 21 October, which challenges households to survive a night without using their taps and showers. “Water is a precious resource and is used in so many different ways at home, including drinking, bathing, washing clothes, flushing toilets, watering gardens and filling swimming pools,” he said. “For Council, providing safe, reliable, efficient water and wastewater services to local residents and businesses is one of our core responsibilities. “With Hervey Bay and surrounding areas potentially

facing level three water restrictions within weeks, ‘Water Night’ is a perfect opportunity to gain a greater awareness of our water use. “For example, the average Australian turns on their taps at least nine times a day while we use 7.5 litres of water brushing our teeth and 90 litres of water during a 10 minute shower. “The ‘Water Night’ challenge runs from 12pm to 12am on Thursday 21 October, during which households are encouraged to see if they can avoid using taps and running water. “The organisers do though encourage households to fill water bottles for drinking and storing them in the fridge before the event starts. “More information is available at https://waternight. com.au/, including how to get involved, water facts, water saving tips and water night activities.” Cr Everard said Council encouraged Fraser Coast

residents to continue to watch their water use, particularly outdoors, to help slow down the depletion of our dams. “Every little bit helps and every drop counts. By being water-wise, you not only save water, you also save money on your water bill,” he said. New research has been released detailing the subconscious actions that see the average person running taps for 68 minutes per day – a whopping 635 billion minutes per year. Commissioned by notfor-profit Smart Approved WaterMark and conducted by YouGov, the research revealed a stark contradiction between how much we say we value water, and how we use it. Specifically, 91% of Australians believe that it is important to monitor water usage in the home and garden, however, our actions are falling short. Only 18% of Australians reported actually being aware of how they utilise water in the home.

Level three water restrictions for Hervey Bay area

Sprinklers and irrigation systems will be banned and residents in the Hervey Bay water supply network will only be permitted to water established gardens with a hose for an hour a day three days a week under level three water restrictions. The new restrictions, which will take effect on Monday 8 November 2021, will also mean watering established lawns with town water is not permitted; cars, boats and pets can only be washed with a bucket; and children’s play pools cannot be used. CYCLING: The Hervey Bay 100 team and the Fraser Coast Cycling Club have joined forces to present a new event for the well-established Hervey Bay 100 weekend. ‘The Hundy Crit’ cycling race will join the action-packed events. Fraser Coast Cycling Club president Steve Case is excited to work with the Hundy 100 team to bring the new event to the region. “It will be a regular race aligned with the Hundy. It will be around a 1300 metre course and will take about 40 to 45-minute race where riders will cover around 35 kilometres,” Case said.

The event is open to juniors, women and men. The course has been designed as a hotdog course and will run along the Esplanade on the Hervey Bay foreshore. “The circuit will allow for spectator viewing and produce some close racing with tight turns,” he said. Both the Hervey Bay Triathlon and the Fraser Coast Cycling Clubs already share many of the same members. The partnership for this event will only strengthen their relationship. Hervey Bay 100 organiser and Triathlon Club vice president Jeff Morris believes the event is a win-win for both

clubs and the Fraser Coast region. “It is great to be able to partner with the cycling club and create this event for the cycling community and add to a great weekend of sport on the Fraser Coast,” Morris said. It will join the junior triathlon, the Barge to Beach swim race, the Hervey Bay 50 and 100 races. The event will run from 2.30pm on 20 November along the Esplanade between the Beach House Hotel and Apex Park. Competitors ready to make a splash in the triathlon TRIATHLON: On a perfect spring Sunday morning, over 120 competitors took to the water, the roads and the paths as they competed in Race 3 of the Hervey Bay Triathlon Club 21/22 series. From seniors to under 10’s, male and female they gave their all as they raced against the other competitors and themselves. Hervey Bay Triathlon Club vice-president Jeff Morris was pleased with the day’s turnout. “It’s great to get back into the swing of things and have over 100 people racing,” Morris said. The event used the One Time timing system for the first time, allowing competitors to get their splits between disciplines

and transitions. “It allows people to get a handle of every part of their race,” he said. Lars Olsen was the first senior male to cross the line in a time of 1:03:44, just under a minute ahead of Tom McKean, with Dylan Smith coming home in third. “It was a beautiful morning, and the water was just perfect,” Olsen said. He used the event as preparation for the Noosa Triathlon in a fortnight. Charlotte Davies was the first female home in a time of 1:13:23 ahead of Amie Munson and Kaliki James. She enjoyed the perfect conditions and also used the event for preparation for

Noosa. “I am running in the teams at Noosa in the heat of the day; this was a good chance to get used to the heat,” she said. Brian Harrington was the first over the line in the intermediate class, with Fionna McDonnell crossing the line second and Mark Mackay in third. Colton Blyth, Hayden Smith and Abbey Mulhall were the first under 16 juniors to cross the line. The under 14 class was taken out by Rory Sloan ahead of Bryn McDonnell and Haidi Lewis. Jake Perkins won the under 12 class, beating home Saisha Olsen and Harry Cohen.

Jobs Fraser Coast new chairperson LONG-TERM Hervey Bay resident and University of Sunshine Coast campus manager Michelle Hay has been elevated by her peers to the chair of Jobs Fraser Coast. After a unanimous vote at an extraordinary special meeting today, Mrs Hay has been appointed Chair of succeeding Fraser Coast Council economic development manager Mark Lourigan who had been acting chair since July. “Michelle brings a wealth of local labour market knowledge to the role through her involvement with the University of Sunshine Coast and has strong connections in the local community”, Mr Lourigan said. Orwell’s ‘Animal Farm’ coming FRASER Coast residents will have the opportunity to watch an award-winning live theatre performance of George Orwell’s Animal Farm at the Brolga Theatre in Maryborough on Saturday 23 October. Mayor George Seymour said the Shake and Stir Theatre Company production had toured across Australia in recent years to great critical acclaim. “George Orwell’s intense tale Animal Farm tells the story of a revolution that has taken place on a farm with the pigs assuming control and promising a better life free from human service. It illustrates how greed and power can corrupt with devastating consequences,” he said. “Over 40 animals are

portrayed between the performers, with each actor morphing physically and vocally in front of the audience as they bring the farmyard inhabitants to life.” Adaptor Nick Skubij said his team was thrilled to be able to bring the production to the Fraser Coast. “Animal Farm has stood by me since I first read it and it still holds great relevance to audiences in 2021. AN AQUA Adventure Playground will replace the WaveRider at WetSide in Hervey Bay. Council has awarded a tender to Playscape Creations for the $1.3 million project with work to start within weeks and be completed by mid-2022. Federal Member for Hinkler Keith Pitt said the new playground would be a welcome addition to the popular venue in Hervey Bay. “This project has been funded through the Federal Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure

(LRCI) Program, which is aimed at improving the liveability of ratepayers while also boosting local jobs and supporting local businesses,” Mr Pitt said. “Fraser Coast Regional Council has received $5.9 million from the first two phases of this program and will receive an additional $3.8 million from 1 January 2022. “The WaveRider had reached the end of its serviceable life and needed to be replaced,” Fraser Coast Mayor George Seymour said. “While the WaveRider was

popular, we think the Aqua Adventure Playground will have a wide appeal. Playscape Creations will install its XTrail AQ system, an innovative and interactive obstacle course designed as a challenging test of skill for participants and interactive spectacle for onlookers.
