Hertsmere Against Cancer

Our project aimed at early prevention of cancer is well under way. We’re working with GPs to contact anyone who has not taken up screening invitations, with more than 800 people signing up already.

We supported a Health and Cancer Awareness Event organised by Communities 1st in March, which was attended by 170 residents and representatives from four GP surgeries and three national charities. Residents left the event with not only increased awareness of health and cancer, but information about other services such as transport, befriending and walking groups. We are planning to hold similar events across the borough later in the year.

This year sees the 75th anniversary of the HMT Empire Windrush arriving in Britain, bringing more than 800 passengers from the Caribbean.
