Herrington Harbour Marina and its history are inexplicably intertwined. The original buildings, many of which are still present on site, along with the bucolic scenery of the Chesapeake Bay, provide the same setting for relaxation, fun, and activity today as they did years ago. Indeed, patrons of the Rose Haven era (1948-1977) and current are very much alike.
Herrington South is located in the natural cove of Herring Bay. The name Herring Bay dates to the earliest European settlement of the area in the 1600s, probably indicating a rich source of herring fish. Spelling varied in this period, so Herring appeared in different ways.
In 1667 the town of "Herrington" was established by Lord Baltimore, and in 1683 it became a "port of entry" to regulate shipping. The town disappeared by the early 1700s. When Steuart was looking to name the marina, he chose Herrington for the historical reference to the area.
Herrington Harbour South is noted for its expansive views of the Chesapeake Bay. Its predecessor was the Rose Haven Yacht Club, a private club operated by Joe Rose, which opened in 1948. After a period of decline in the 1970s, the old yacht club and marina were rescued by a partnership led by Steuart Chaney. They purchased it in 1978 and initiated its dramatic transformation into a modern marina.

The East Beach, by the Inn, has lounge chairs, umbrellas, and shade huts. Leashed dogs and pets are allowed on the beach before 9am and after 5pm.
Complimentary kayaks and stand up paddle boards are available for members and guests to enjoy. A Resort Membership Card is required to check out lawn games, beach umbrellas, kayaks and paddle boards.
Outdoor movie night is every Saturday night (weather permitting), beginning after sunset.
Concessions are available during the season at the East Beach. Drinks, light snacks and miscellaneous items are available for purchase.
The West Beach, near the Paradise Ballroom, is kept very natural. Slipholders only. Leashed dogs and pets are allowed any time of the day.
In the center of the Gardens is the Marsh Pavilion. A seasonal monarch butterfly habitat surrounds it. Watch as they dance around the vegetation planted to attract them to the area.

Plan 45 - 90 minutes to walk the Eco-trail. It is one mile from the East Beach to West Beach. Look for numbered sign posts along the pathway and boardwalk trail that correspond to the information on the back of the eco-trail map (available online and in the Marina Office).
Keep your eyes open for great blue herons, sea nettles, wading birds, osprey, diamondback terrapins, and more. Living shorelines around the marina basin are alive with native plants, marshes and wildlife. The herons enjoy eating in the marshes during low tide.
Serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner daily. Chesapeake Market & Deli prepares hot and cold sandwiches, fresh salads, and handpicked seafood. They also offer beer, wine, and spirits to parched palettes.
The rich and succulent Maryland Crab soup is a favorite among guests. Your favorite dishes can be prepared any day of the week.

Owners Bobby and Julie Jones are from Annapolis, MD, and each has over 20-years of experience in the restaurant industry. They treat their restaurants as an extension of their home, and they strive to give every customer who visits a pleasant experience that makes them want to return again and again!
Bobby operates the restaurant as Chef and GM, and Julie oversees Front of the House operations.

Refer someone to Herrington Harbour South and receive 10% off slip fees. 5% for you and 5% for your friend when a "New Slipholder" secures an annual slip for the season. A "New Slipholder" must not have occupied a slip at North or South during the past two annual boating seasons.
The member discount for the Inn at Herrington Harbour for you and your guests is 20% per evening Sundays - Thursdays on luxury rooms and suites.

Earn Harbour Dollars when we place a visiting vessel in your slip while you are away on your boat. If your slip is used, you earn 20 Harbour Dollars per night for a metered slip and 10 Harbour Dollars per night for a non-metered slip. These will be mailed to the billing address we have on file for you.
Harbour Dollars can be used at Herrington South and North at the Fuel Dock, Pool, Gift Shop, Ketch 22, Chesapeake Market & Deli, the Inn, Dockside Restaurant (North), and West Marine (North). They can also be used for slip fees, storage fees, pump-outs, and marine service providers located at Herrington North.
