Welcome to the Herndon Festival! The Herndon Festival has been a part of the Herndon community for over 38 years and we hope you can join in to celebrate all the wonderful people, businesses, and services that give Herndon that small-town feel. This FREE event is the perfect reason to make time to get together with your family and friends. As we establish the 39th annual Herndon Festival in its new location, we pause to send enormous thanks to Northwest Federal Credit Union for partnering as our title sponsor and host of the Herndon Festival. In the new location, this time-honored event will continue to be held over four days. The Festival will be filled with carnival games & rides, music, and vendors for all ages to enjoy. Remember all the same guidelines apply in the new site. Please take a minute to review our full list of Festival guidelines. This brochure will provide you with a comprehensive guide to all the Festival’s activities and highlights. Tips to Increase the Fun Here are a few tips to help you have an amazing time at the Herndon Festival! Tip #1 Ride the FREE shuttle bus! Leave your car and take advantage of our FREE shuttle service. Stops include the Peraton Building off Worldgate Drive and Herndon High School, where you can pick-up the shuttle, and it’ll take you right to the Festival! Tip #2 Walk or bike ride to the Festival via the W&OD Trail. The Herndon Festival is located at the intersection of the W&OD Trail and the Herndon Parkway. If you ride your bike, let us watch it at the FREE Bike Valet while you ride the rides! Tip # 3 Make sure you plan to enjoy four days of live FREE music. There will be over 50 acts on two stages and the Expo Plaza, so there is always something to listen to and watch. What is your favorite type of music? Check out our bands by genre list. Plan to help rock-out and close-out the Festival with Vertical Horizon, on Sunday at 4:45pm Tip # 4 Take time to walk and explore the new Herndon Festival site. Thursday and Friday the layout will feature the carnival, two entertainment stages, two food courts, sponsor row, and arts and craft vendors on Friday. On Saturday and Sunday, you will see more vendors as the Business Expo and more sponsors join us, the Children’s Hands-On Art Area opens, and many wonderful volunteer groups.

back to quick-links Tip #5 For our younger Festival attendees, Sunday morning, Mister G, Latin GRAMMY Award winning artist, author, activist and educator will perform at 10:00am on the Parkway Stage and then he will host an interactive session on the Expo Plaza at 11:45am. Kids will have the chance to learn more about cultural connections through music and then decorate their own handheld spinning musical instrument. This is a free event! So much FUN for kids awaits in the Children’s Hands-On Art Area, located behind 200 Spring Street. Let your child express their artistic skills in the Children’s Hands-On Art Area and remember - it’s FREE! Everyone can get creative and Rock On by trying over a dozen unique and fun crafts and activities. Click here to learn more. You can’t have a Festival without the fun and thrill of a carnival! Plenty of adventurous rides for all ages, kiddie rides for the younger crowd and challenging games with great prizes await you at this year’s carnival. Don’t miss out on the All-You-Can-Ride, all day wristband on Thursday, Saturday or Sunday. There is still time to sign up for some exercise and fun on Sunday morning at our Herndon Festival 10K/5K races! Afterward, check out the Festival’s Health and Fitness Expo. Getting to the NEW Festival Site Northwest Federal Credit Union 200 Spring Street, Herndon, VA 20170

Parking There is no designated public parking around the Herndon Festival site. We highly encourage visitors to take the FREE Shuttle Bus or take advantage of our FREE Bike Valet service, see details below. Please note that many private parking lots and shopping areas surrounding the Herndon Festival will tow cars parked in their lots. Handicapped Parking is available at 200 Spring Street outside the parking garage. Vehicles must have a DMV issued disabled parking placard or plates.

Bike to the Festival Relax and enjoy the Festival knowing your bike is safe with our bike valet. The Herndon Festival features a FREE bike valet service until closing on Thursday at 10pm, Friday and Saturday at 11pm, and until closing on Sunday at 6pm. Bike racks will be located at the intersection of the W&OD Trail and the Herndon Parkway.

Ready to ride the shuttle bus back to your car? Make sure you pick up the shuttle bus on the other side of the festival from where you were dropped off. If you want to ride to Herndon High School, pick-up the shuttle bus on Spring Street and if you want to ride to the Peraton building on Worldgate Drive, pick-up the shuttle bus on Herndon Parkway. Take the Metro Silver Line to the Festival Ride Metro Silver Line to the Wiehle-Reston stop, then take the 950 Fairfax Connector bus directly to the Herndon Festival, or you can take the 505 Fairfax Connector bus to Reston Town Center Transit Station and transfer to the RIBS 5 bus, which takes you to the Festival.

Staying Safe at the Festival All guests entering the Festival area are subject to a visual inspection and a bag inspection. Contents of all backpacks and all packages, bags, containers, purses, or other hand carried items of similar size or larger will be inspected. Exceptions can be made for guests with special medical needs. No prohibited items will be accepted at the Festival gates for safekeeping. Please leave all prohibited items secured in your vehicle or throw them away. Take a few steps to make sure you have fun and stay safe at the Herndon Festival. You know the usual things to do, apply sunscreen, stay hydrated, and wear comfortable walking shoes. Remember to make a plan to reunite with your friends or family if you get separated and please note we are in a new location.

Keeping Festival Goers Comfortable Baby Changing Stations There is a dedicated tent with all the needed supplies to keep your little ones fresh and clean. The baby changing station is located across from the Herndon Family Medicine Stage at the corner of 220 Spring Street.

Arts & Crafts Vendors Friday-Sunday, you can browse more than 70 talented artisans as they display and sell their handmade arts and crafts at our juried arts and crafts show. We are excited to welcome back many quality crafters, and are pleased to offer many new vendors this year. The arts and crafts show opens on Friday, May 31 from 5-9pm and continues throughout the weekend, on Saturday, June 1 from 10am-9pm and Sunday, June 2 from 10am6pm. The arts and crafts vendors will be located in between the 200 and 220 buildings and near Herndon Parkway. Take your time to wander around to view all the unique crafts and artists’ creations. From rustic large signs, to clothing and jewelry, accessorize your life with our vendors’ products. You can shop a variety of photography and prints, stained glass, or creative and functional wood items. Or pick-up pet-friendly products, and some exquisite handbags. Herndon Festival 10K/5K Races & Fitness Expo

SUNDAY, JUNE 2

Race starts at 7:30am– Herndon Community Center

5K Race Route

Enjoy a scenic and yet challenging run through Historic Downtown Herndon. On Sunday morning, the Herndon Festival 10K/5K USATF-certified race courses will wind you through and past some of your favorite Herndon locations. There is still time to register! Click

here to get started.

The first 800 pre-registered 10K/5K participants will receive a sport-dryfit t-shirt complete with the Festival race logo. After completing the race, participants can enjoy yummy breakfast foods, door prizes, music, and an awards ceremony. Breakfast breads and muffins are compliments of Herndon’s own Great Harvest Bread Company.

FITNESS EXPO After your morning workout, take advantage of the free Fitness Expo held after the race. Race participants have the opportunity to visit local health and wellness related business vendors. Make sure to look for special offers and coupons. Don’t forget to unwind after your run with a massage from one of Herndon’s own local masseuses onsite. Race participants can pick up their race numbers and t-shirts on: Sat., June 1, 11AM-4PM – Herndon Community Center - or on Sun., June 2, 6:15-7:15AM – Herndon Community Center Participants should be able to complete the 10K race in less than 90 minutes and the 5K race in 45 minutes. After these times, runners must take to the sidewalks, or race officials will transport any participants still on the courses back to the Herndon Community Center. TIMING This event will be scored using the Chronotrack Bib Tag Timing System. Runners will be issued their bib at packet pick-up. The bib must be worn throughout the race for timing results and the runner must cross the finish line. AWARDS Overall winners will receive a variety of running merchandise in addition to an award. Awards presented from each age group to the male and female winner: 10 and under, 11-14, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69 and 70 and over.

The Herndon Festival is once again grateful for Arts Herndon’s support as they produce the Children’s Hands-On Art program, a FREE family-friendly event open to children of all ages on Sat. June 1, 10am-5pm and Sun., June 2, 11am-4pm behind 200 Spring Street. This year’s theme is Rock On Herndon. Activities feature multi-media art projects. Join in the fun as Arts Herndon’s trained volunteers and staff help children let their imaginations run WILD as they create painted friendship rocks, dream catchers, dip-dye sticks, stick wands, and more. A community art project will also be a focal point with children coming together to create a larger mural for the benefit of sharing the hope and beauty of art. Parkway Stage Mister G – Ben Gundersheimer is a Latin GRAMMY Award winning artist, author, activist and educator and has received four Parents’ Choice Gold Awards. Hailed as “a bilingual rock star” by the Washington Post. His spirited bilingual performances aim to dissolve borders and foster cross cultural connections. Fluent in a broad range of genres and styles, Ben collaborates widely with internationally renowned musicians, both onstage and in the studio.

Entertainment Highlights If you think that moving to our new location has cut down on entertainment possibilities let us assure you - it has not! The opportunities to dance the day away, get your jam on and find new artists to add to your playlist still abound and are still free. This year we have two large stages that will feature bands from open to close. In addition, we’ll feature a smaller more intimate performing arts plaza by the Business Expo on Saturday and Sunday. It will present some unique performances, such as a song building workshop, solo singer/ songwriters, a man and his monkey, and some sleight of hand. It wouldn’t be festival fun without colorful and fanciful one-of-a-kind interactions with our strolling talent. You are sure to bump into old friends, such as Unicycle Lady and Ziggy the Insect and new creative wonders as you and they roam our new festival site. Our Performing Arts Supervisor, along with the Herndon Festival planning committee, collaborated to bring the best in local, regional and national talent to the festival. Our Performing Arts Supervisor’s not to be missed list includes: EVE Strings Electrique Great Wide Open Vacation Manor Broke Royals Act of Congress and, of course, Vertical Horizon!

Entertainment Highlights Usually, we save the headliners for the last act of the night. This year we threw in some groups that could easily headline into our days as well. For example… SVET, the Electro Hip-Hop violinist, as seen on America’s Got Talent! This lively modern virtuoso is opening Saturday on the Parkway stage. A stage and day that we devoted to all instruments stringed! Clearly a headline act, EVE Strings Electrique, showcases the Viper Electric 6 string violin, the Yamaha Electric cello and the John Jordan Electric 7 string violin. These ladies show us what new school is all about! Great Wide Open – The Ultimate Tom Petty Experience is on the Herndon Family Medicine Stage Saturday at 7:00pm on a day and stage that we dedicated to music you know and love. We decided to party all day and night in that corner of our new site! Mister G – we consider all Grammy winners headline material and are featuring this bilingual musician Sunday at 10:00am. Calling all kids to the Parkway stage! Plus, there will be a musical workshop at 11:30am with Mister G. Children will have the chance to decorate and play their own spinning drum. This is sure to be an interactive experience for all!

Entertainment Headliners Thursday transit Vocal Band

7:30-9:30pm Parkway Stage Using nothing more than the human voice, transit brings to the stage the thumping, rhythm of a drum set, the rumbling vibrations of an electric bass, funky guitar riffs, soulful horns and many other instruments. With an impressive mix of soul, pop, funk and rock from every decade since the 1950s, transit is a must-see show that will leave you wondering how is it possible without any instruments. We are thrilled to offer A Cappella music as a headliner this year and we are sure it’s going to thrill you too!

Entertainment Headliners Friday Act of Congress

7:30-9:30pm Parkway Stage This singer/songwriter group from Birmingham, Alabama plays only acoustic instruments giving them a unique sound that resonates with audiences both here and around the world. Act of Congress has completed five tours as Cultural Ambassadors in the American Music Abroad Program that is produced by the US Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. They have also opened for Toby Keith, John Mayer and Edwin McCain. They have an organic sound that combines hook-laden melodies and compelling songwriting. Dave Higgs of NPR – “One of the freshest sounding, exuberant bands in all of the known acoustic universe.” Here at the Herndon Festival we are thrilled they are in our universe Friday night on the Parkway Stage.

Ocho de Bastos

8-10:00pm Herndon Family Medicine Stage Ocho de Bastos came to life in 2009 when a group of young enthusiastic and passionate musicians formed a Latin Pop Rock Band. Ocho de Bastos has since become one of the most popular and sought-after bands in the DC metro area. A unique guitar sound, blended with powerful drums, Latin percussion, and catchy brass riffs, complement Ocho de Bastos’ extraordinary style. With a repertoire that includes popular songs in English, Spanish, and Portuguese, their goal is to bring people together with music and to create memorable experiences. National Public Radio’s, Felix Contreras, has described Ocho de Bastos, as “A DARN GOOD BAND.” We welcome back to the stage Ocho de Bastos – A Herndon Festival favorite!

Entertainment Headliners Saturday Farewell Angelina

8:00-9:30pm Parkway Stage Farewell Angelina is an all-female country group comprised of four powerhouse vocalists, who are also dynamic songwriters and accomplished multiinstrumentalists. Their stellar blend of heart-stopping harmonies over blazing double violins and guitars has earned soaring praise across the board. They’ve been named among Rolling Stone’s “New Artists You Need To Know,” and Roughstock’s “Ones to Watch” with a tour schedule to prove it. The girls have opened shows for the likes of Kenny Chesney, Old Dominion, Frankie Ballard, Jake Owen, Billy Currington, Maroon 5, and Trace Adkins, to name a few. They are currently headlining their own “Women & Wine Tour” to packed crowds across the US. The girls played over 75 shows in 2018 and were scheduled to play Herndon Festival 2018 but were rained out. We couldn’t miss the opportunity to have them back.

Three Sheets to the Wind

8:30-10:00pm Herndon Family Medicine Stage Named both as “Best Band” by Richmond Magazine, and “Best Cover Band” by STYLE Weekly for five years running. Three Sheets to the Wind is America’s #1 Tribute to Yacht Rock. Unfortunately, last year Three Sheets to the Wind sailed away on all the rain so we invited them back and are hoping they drop anchor this year!

Entertainment Headliners Sunday Vertical Horizon

4:45-6:00pm Herndon Family Medicine Stage Vertical Horizon is an American alternative rock band formed at Georgetown University in D.C. in 1990. Their high energy shows are filled with an assortment of their well-known and latest hits. The band plays off each other with an almost feverish dynamic energy, drawing the fans into a riveting musical experience at every show. Their Everything You Want Album, sold over two million copies and the title song captured the #1 spot on Billboard’s Hot 100 and Adult Top 40 charts. In February 2018 Vertical Horizon released their latest album, The Lost Mile. We are beyond thrilled to have them at the Herndon Festival. This is one performance not to be missed!

Why did the Herndon Festival Move? The Herndon Festival moved to make room as the Town of Herndon works with Comstock Partners to redevelop 4.675 acres of land in historic downtown. The redevelopment will provide a mix of retail, office and residential development, to include four-story mixed-use/ residential structures; three-story mixed-use/commercial structures; a jointlyfunded public/private parking structure; an arts center and more.
