Purchasing and Contracts Manager James Wunderle explained that the differences in estimated completion time and cost are a result of the shipwreck that was discovered after the Bayport Pier was being assessed for damages following hurricane Irma in 2017. With the preservation of the wreckage now a factor in the rebuilding of the pier, an additional $94,585.95 has been added to the cost, and a contract awarded to Cardno,
Inc. for the oversight and “Cultural Resources Monitoring Services.” Wunderle explained that buoys will be placed around the perimeter of the shipwreck before the pier construction commences, and that the monitoring part of the contract pertains to construction of the pier not violating the boundary of the buoys. Wunderle also reported that FEMA funding is available for this project, “appropriate methods and processes” must be followed in order for the county to be reimbursed.

n a brief interview with Hernando Sun reporter Alice Mary Herden, Judith McIntire, Uptown Art Gallery Coordinator at Brooksville City Hall spoke about the importance of art in her life. She explained, “I was born into a family with three very active artists: my mother and my aunts.” She combined her talent for photography and watercolor painting. “Creativity is what it’s all about, it doesn’t matter what medium it is, and it soothes the soul.” “I like the variety I see in the artists in the Hernando County area,” stated McIntire. “Artistic talent lies deep and carries on from the birth to the grave,” she said. Exhibits at the Uptown Art Gallery featured artists of all ages during her tenure. McIntire lost her battle with cancer on Oct. 5, 2019 and we have compiled some comments on the impact she made on our close knit community. From the Uptown Art Gallery: Our beloved friend, mentor and colleague, Judith Ellen McIntire, 76, of Weeki Wachee, Florida passed away on Saturday October 5th, 2019. She was best known locally as the Uptown Art Gallery Coordinator located in Brooksville City Hall for the last 6 years and a member of Nature Coast Art League (formerly Spring Hill Art League). We, the community are proud of the work she did at the gallery supporting multiple showcases of the many talented community members ages See MCINTIRE Page 20

What makes Hernando County great? It’s the residents that come together when there is a need in the community. They go above and beyond to fill it. Social media and television is overloaded with tragic and sad things happening. It’s good to witness and hear about something positive to remind us there is still good in the world. Friday October 18, 2019, I had the privilege of witnessing citizens of Hernando County coming out to help make one little boy’s life a little brighter. Jesus is his name, he “Helping is 9 years old, and people in in the 5th need is what grade. will make He loves this country skating great.” boarding, fishing, soccer, biking riding, and hanging out with his friends. On Friday night, despite the rainy weather he got to experience the love, of strangers lining up inside the McDonald’s, with all sorts of gifts for him. What led to this amazing event? Well here is the back story. Jesus is the son of a local Brooksville couple Bernando and Kimberly. His parents work hard everyday but struggle to make ends meet. What they aren’t able to provide in material items they make up for with lots of love for their son. Jesus and his mother Kimberly made a quick stop to the Mcdonald’s at Spring Hill Crossing near Target and Kohls. It was here that they met Donald Breland and his daughter Allison. Jesus gave Allison a compliment on her shoes. Donald saw that Allison had tears in her eyes. She had no-

BROOKSVILLE, Fla. --- It is a magical time of the season! It is that time of the season — 4A District 6 Tournament time — and there’s magic everywhere and every team brings their own magic. Tuesday night October 15, Hudson High School made their magic against Weeki Wachee High School, falling in the first game and looked like it would be a long night for the Cobras. Hudson High School volleyball coach Stephen Jones, looked at his team, he made the right speech and Hudson High School returned to the court and finished the Hornets in four games, 3-1 and continued their way to the District finals against Nature Coast Tech High School. Against the Sharks, Thursday night October 17, the magic ran out for the Cobras as they felt the bite of the Sharks and Hudson High School was See CHAMPS, Page12
