The small but dynamic community of Nobleton continues to rally together to fully restore the Tri-County Community Center following extensive building and property damage due to a large fire set by vandals. Unfortunately, the center did not have fire insurance coverage. Formerly the Tri-County Volunteer Fire Department and Ladies Auxiliary, the building was acquired by the Tri-County Community Association, Inc., a nonprofit organization and opened in January The Tri-County Community Center damaged by fire last year.

Hernando Prep Football Roundup: Springstead rolls to 40-0 win over Lecanto BY ANDY VILLAMARZO HERNANDO SUN SPORTS REPORTER PHOTOGRAPHY BY JOE DICRISTOFALO

SPRING HILL- There’s only one undefeated team left in Hernando County and they reside in Spring Hill. Springstead continued its march towards making history and finishing the regular season undefeated, as the Eagles rolled to a 40-0 victory over Lecanto last Friday at Booster Stadium. With the victory, Springstead now improves to 7-0 on the season heading into this Friday’s matchup against Groveland South Lake. Leading the way for Springstead on the ground was running back Tony Rahman, who rushed for 68 yards on 12 carries and scored two touchdowns in the victory for the Eagles. Also contributing to the win for Springstead was See ROUNDUP, Page14

Silva Mudd Ludwig. by SARAH NACHIN HERNANDO SUN

Not many people live to be 100 years old and fewer still live past that age. Silva Mudd Ludwig has beat these statistics by reaching the age of 105. On Saturday, Oct. 12 approximately fifty members of her family gathered at the home of Floyd Mudd in Nobleton to celebrate this milestone with her. Relatives came from as far away as Illinois and Indiana, representing three generations. Silva was born in Sadler, Kentucky on Oct. 13, 1914. She was one of eight children - two girls and six boys - and is the only surviving member of her immediate family. Silva has also out-lived three husbands. An interesting fact is that she is distantly related to Dr. Samuel Mudd, the physician that operated on John Wilkes Booth’s leg after he assassinated Abraham Lincoln. Silva displays a dry sense of humor, evident in many of her remarks. When she was told that it was her 105th birthday, Silva said, “That’s stretching it.” Silva once refused to ride in a horse-drawn carriage in St. Augustine because she said she had ridden on a buckboard so many times she would never sit behind a horse again. When asked to what she attributes her longevity, she replied, “I wish somebody could tell me.” Silva has never taken a pill in her life – just home remedies - and doesn’t believe in going See 105, Page 20
