t the regular meeting on October 8, 2019, the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) agreed to vote on the Hernando County School District’s (HCSD) request to increase their impact fee funding at a future joint meeting. For reasons that were not clear at the Tuesday meeting, the agenda and public advertisement showed the topic as an update, and therefore not subject to a resolution. The board concurred to defer the vote to the joint meeting, with a date to be determined. The issue of impact fees is controversial. Commissioner Wayne Dukes said at one point during See IMPACT FEES, Page 3

His father committed suicide using a hunting rifle, when he was just 12 years old. He had a life-changing decision to make after his father’s tragic death; which was undoubtedly an unfair situation for a boy his age. The life-changing decision: What does he do with his life? Born in Missouri, Sean Dietrich moved to Florida at the age of 14. It was two years after his father’s suicide. Since then, he has called Florida his home; only to figure out his soul belonged in the Deep South. As that young boy has grown into a man, Mr. Dietrich did something unexpected. When traumatic things happen to children, there are many perceived reasons for them to give up, and quit. They may believe that they’re not good enough to achieve dreams that they have within themselves. They begin to believe that because of their circumstances, some things just aren’t possible. Mr. Dietrich has broken that mold; and he’s broken that mold in a unique way. The year after his father committed suicide, Sean dropped out of school in the See SEAN, Page 5

Old Timers
I
got a call recently, the kind nobody wants to get, but far too often do; a friend of mine has passed away. More so than just a friend, he was a mentor of sorts in my young adulthood and was a cherished member of a class of the most influential outdoorsmen. The influence of men of that class is sorely needed these days, more so than ever... My friend, Jimmy West, of Dade City, Fl, was an “Old Timer.” Old Timers are that class of outdoorsmen who’ve been there, done that and are now able to teach how they did it. They are always the first welcomed to speak at the campfire and the ones most sought after by the younger crowd for when things just aren’t going right. And it’s the youngsters that the old timers always seem to key in on because somehow, subconsciously, they know that their entire purpose is to pass on as much of their experience and knowledge as they can. It’s the old timers who best can teach the youngsters our history and heritage as sportsmen. I know for myself, growing up in a perpetual sort of hunt camp, the old timers would dote on me, often they’d pick on me good-naturedly, certainly they called on me for chores, but very often they would just See HUNTING, Page 13
Back in Brooksville, FL just over a few years ago, Nature Coast Technical featured a running back that not many thought then would end up playing in the National Football League. Come this past Monday night in San Francisco, California, the San Francisco 49ers had former Nature Coast running back Matt Breida sitting center stage on one of the NFL’s premier nights to watch football. ‘The Cheetah’ as they call him now all across the national air waves, had himself a big night in the 49ers’ 31-3 victory over the Cleveland Browns on Monday Night Football. Breida rushed for 114 yards on 11 carries and scored a touchdown in the victory for San Francisco. Breida has helped propel San Francisco to a 4-0 start to the NFL season San Francisco 49ers' Matt Breida during the team's organized team acand has played very well up to now for See CHEETAH, Page 13
