Local family business: from small start-up

'Wild About Art' Local students show off their talent at the 20th Annual Art Gallery presentation 'Wild About Art'

n Saturday May 12 students from local public schools displayed their art at the Town Square Mall in Spring Hill. Six students from each school were chosen to present their works. The theme of this 20th Annual Art Gallery was “Wild About Art.” Parents; teachers; students and local dignitaries including county commissioner Wayne Dukes, school board members Mark Johnson, Linda Prescott and Gus Guadagnino and Superintendent Dr. Lori Romano attended the exhibition. Everyone was invited to vote for their favorite pieces. The Springstead High School Jazz Band under the direction of Richard Dasher entertained the crowd with an assortment of tunes.

The students displayed amazing creativity and talent in a variety of media, including photography, pastels, pen and ink, crayon and colored pencil. The subjects and styles varied, as well. Nature, still life and portraits were included and styles styles from realism to surrealism. Many showed influences of well-known artists such as Frida Kahlo, Andy Warhol, Vincent Van Gogh and Pablo Picasso.

onster Transmission is a Hernando County business that currently employs 85 people. They are active in the local community and have put on many events to raise money for charity. The formation of the business was a large family effort which combined the abilities of multiple generations.

Monster Transmission was created by a close knit family of faith. President/CEO Achilles Thomas had just graduated from college with a multimedia degree and was looking to start his career. His grandparents had moved to Spring Hill from South Florida. Achilles decided to move to Spring Hill and he lived with his grandparents for a year while he figured out what he wanted to do. It was a special time for him.

Achilles' grandfather, also named Achilles, was a retired entrepreneur who wanted to impart his experience and knowledge onto his grandson. Achilles decided to start a business and sell websites to local businesses in the area. He went door to door trying to drum up sales. After two months he had not sold a single website. He was told over and over again, “What’s a website and what do I need that for?.” This was very discouraging as he felt the need to support himself and generate some income.

He decided to apply at Office Depot. They had just finished the Coastal Way shopping plaza and Office Depot was hiring. He applied for a job there in the print center. His grandfather insisted on accompanying him to the interview. During their visit, his grandfather did all the talking with the manager. He kept saying that Achilles is a ‘good boy, and will do great things for you.’ A few days later the manager called and offered Achilles the job.

He was thrilled and shared the news with his grandfather, but to his amazement, his grandfather told him to not accept the job. Grandpa Achilles told his namesake that he could do

County loosens restrictions on where employees with a concealed weapon license can carry

At the May 8, 2018 Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) regular meeting, the board voted unanimously to allow county workers with valid Concealed Weapon License, commonly known as a “concealed carry” to have their firearms in their possession while conducting county business. Pell Grant students trail in graduation rates

TALLAHASSEE --- Florida’s public universities graduated 57 percent of low-income students receiving federal Pell grants in six years, but that trailed the graduation rate of non-Pell students, a new study shows.

The analysis by Third Way, a Washington, D.C.- based think tank, used newly reported federal data to track a 2010 cohort of firsttime, full-time Pell students in 1,566 four-year institutions across the country, including public and private schools.

“As colleges continue to bill themselves as mobility machines for students, this new data lets us (home) in on how well institutions are serving Pell students, who need the economic security of a college degree the most,” the report said.

The Third Way analysts found a majority of the four-year public and private schools nationally do not serve Pell students well and that the six-year graduation

rate for Pell students is 18 percent lower than for non-Pell students at those institutions.

“We already know we have a completion crisis in higher education --and this new data shows us that this problem is even more acute for low- and moderate-income students,” the report said.

Florida universities performed better than the national average.

The 57 percent graduation rate for the 2010 group of Pell students in Florida schools was well above a national average of 49 percent for public institutions, although three schools were below the average: Florida A&M University, 39 percent; Florida Gulf Coast University, 41 percent; and the University of West Florida, 47 percent.

An average gap of 5 percentage points between Pell and nonPell graduation rates in Florida was significantly below the national average of 16 percentage points for public schools, according to the report.

The largest gaps were at New College of

Florida, 14 percentage points; Florida A&M, 8 percentage points; the University of Florida, 7 percentage points; Florida State University, 7 percentage points; and Florida Gulf Coast, 7 percentage points.

On the positive side, the University of South Florida and Florida Atlantic University had higher graduation rates for their Pell students compared to non-Pell students. Florida International University and the University of North Florida graduated Pell and non-Pell students at the same rate.

The Third Way study put a particular focus on four-year institutions that serve large numbers of Pell students, who received an average award of $3,740 last year.

More than three-quarters of those students came from families that earned $40,000 or less a year. The study defined the higher Pell institutions as having at least 37 percent of their 2010 cohort receiving the federal aid.

Under that criteria, USF finished as a top-10 performing institution among the

“Pell-serving institutions,” graduating 68 percent of its Pell students within six years, compared to 67 percent for non-Pell students.

Forty-one percent of its 2010 cohort was on a Pell grant.

“Since 2009, student success has been a focus of the university as we sought to implement programming, practices and policies to support students on a timely and successful path to graduation and fully prepare them for what lays beyond,” Paul Dosal, a USF vice president, said in a statement. “This student success movement has been built on our fundamental belief that all students will succeed if given the opportunity. It is very satisfying knowing our initiatives are working.”

Florida International graduated 56 percent of its Pell students, while serving a cohort with 52 percent of the students on the federal aid program.

Arrested at 05/10/2018 13:00 MARINER BLVD & CHALMER ST, SPRING HILL Arrest Summary: "On 5/10/18 at approximately 1142 hours, I was dispatched to the intersection of Mariner Boulevard and Chalmer Street in reference to four subjects involved in a verbal altercation.

Upon arrival, I made contact with the victim, William H, and the defendant, Jessica Andersen. These subjects are currently engaged and reside together at the same residence. They also have two children with each other.

The defendant advised she and William were involved in a verbal altercation this morning over a cell phone. The defendant stated William had possession of her cell phone to obtain her ex-boyfriend’s phone number out of it after he suspected her of cheating. The defendant advised she then took possession of William’s cell phone and he thought she was deleting the number, so he attempted to get his cell phone back. The defendant advised William asked for his phone back and she refused, he then tried to grab the cell phone while holding onto her arm, which was when the defendant stated she, “started to hit him”. The defendant's mother separated both parties at this time.

William stated the same thing as the defendant. He stated he believed she was trying to delete a number out of his cell phone, therefore when he attempted to get his property back, she resisted and refused. At which time, William stated he tried to grab his phone back and grasped the defendant’s arm as she was trying to get away from him.

She began striking him with a closed fist on his upper torso.

William advised the defendant was unable to strike him effectively enough to cause injury, however, she did try to actively hit him repeatedly before her mother separated both parties.

I spoke with the defendant’s mother, Susan Cahill, who advised she was unsure how the altercation started. Upon her arrival, she observed a physical altercation, but was unsure who the primary aggressor was. She stated she separated both subjects, as they were engaged in a physical altercation.

I did not observe any visible injuries on either party, however, the defendant and victim’s statements were consistent and the defendant admitted to battering William. She provided a sworn written statement.

The defendant was taken into custody and transported to the Hernando County Detention Center and charged with one count of Domestic Battery.

Due to it being domestic, she was placed on “No bond” status. She was issued a misdemeanor court date of 6/8/18 at 0900 hours in Courtroom “B” at the Hernando County Courthouse."

I observed the defendant, who initially identified herself as Reva Seymour, and gave a false date of birth of 08/31/1988. The was walking from behind a large mulch pile, which is within the area of where the burglary occurred.

Post Miranda, I asked if the green wallet containing the Florida driver’s license for Reva Seymour, was the defendant’s, which the defendant said yes.

I showed the defendant the Florida driver’s license, which clearly had the name “Reva Seymour”, while it was still in the wallet. The defendant advised that the wallet was hers.

After filling out a sworn written statement, the defendant printed and signed her name as Tiffany Stover. I asked the defendant on why she printed and signed a name, different from the one she told me.

This is when the defendant admitted to giving false name and identification.

The defendant was then arrested and transported to the Hernando Jail, without incident. While en route to the jail, I asked the defendant, multiple times if she had any contraband on her. Which she stated no.

After arriving at the jail, Detention deputies located in the defendant’s person, a clear glass tube with a lid, which contained a crystal like substance, which field tested positive for methamphetamine.

The defendant was charged with count one; Introduction of Contraband, Count two; Unlawful Possession of Personal Identification and Count Three; Providing False name to law enforcement.

The defendant was given a total bond of $7,000.00 and a court date of 06/04/2018 at 0830 hours in Courtroom E." They Became involved in a “Brawl” and that during this “Brawl” the defendant struck her MORGAN, DYLAN ALEXANDER YOB: 1999 CHARGES: FEL DOM BATT STRANGULATION, AGG/ ASSAULT/BATTERY PREGNANT PERSON Arrested at 05/12/2018 14:04 FIRESIDE ST, SPRING HILL Arrest Summary: "On 05/12/2018 law enforcement responded to xxxx Fireside Street in reference to a battery. Upon arrival contact was made with Stephanie C. Stephanie advised that she had been in an argument with her live in boyfriend, Dylan Morgan, and that during the argument she was strangled and battered. Stephanie advised that the defendant had grabbed her phone away from her during the argument and that in retaliation she struck him once on the back of the neck. Stephanie advised that the defendant then got in her face and shoved her.

Stephanie stated that she and the defendant then became involved in a “Brawl” and that during this “Brawl” the defendant struck her once in the face with his fist and ended up on top of her. Stephanie stated that the defendant then used both of his hands and tightly squeezed her throat, cutting off her air supply. Stephanie advised that she wasn’t able to breathe for approximately 2 seconds. Stephanie advised that she then grabbed the defendant’s throat, at which point he let go of her.

Stephanie did advise that she and the defendant have been living together for approximately one year. Stephanie also advised that she is 22 weeks pregnant with the defendant’s child.

Observation of Stephanie did reveal her to have red and purple colored bruising on the right side of her neck, consistent with that of being strangled. Also observed in the same area of the bruising was petechial hemorrhaging.

Contact was then made with the defendant who did confirm that he knew Stephanie was pregnant.

The defendant was then taken into custody and transported to the Hernando County jail.

Once at the jail the defendant was issued a court date of

06/04/2018 and held on a no bond status."

Upon arrival, law enforcement observed the defendant, Michael McEwen, to be actively restraining his 30 year old daughter, Megan.

Contact was made with Megan who advised she was “attacked” by her father, the defendant, Michael after the two of them got into an argument. During this argument, Megan advised she attempted to leave the residence, however she was pushed to the floor several times, restrained on the floor, and at one point, was pinned on the bed. While on the bed, Megan stated that her face was “buried in the covers” and that the defendant's hand was covering her nose and mouth, preventing her from speaking and breathing.

Megan was observed to be out of breath while speaking with law enforcement and was observed to have minor injuries to her head, nose, and face.

Contact was made with the defendant who advised Megan was being “loud” and making derogatory statements to him and his mother. Because of her “behavior”, the defendant advised he “restrained” Megan until law enforcements arrival. The defendant did not comment on the use of force, resulting in her being unable to speak or breathe. The defendant stated he was only trying to “quiet her down” due to them living in a retirement community.

The defendant was then taken into custody for one count Domestic Battery by Strangulation, due to Megan and the defendant being blood relatives and living as a family unit.

The defendant was then transported to the Hernando County Jail. Once at the jail, the defendant was advised of his court date on 6-4-2018 at 8:30 AM in court room E. The defendant was issued no bond due to the charges being domestic in nature."

that fled from a traffic stop conducted by Deputy D. Whitlock.

Deputy Whitlock advised over the radio that the vehicle had first stopped after he activated his patrol vehicle’s over head lights. Deputy Whitlock advised that as he approached the vehicle he positively identified the driver as the defendant by previous interactions and calls for service.

Deputy Whitlock advised that the defendant the stated, “Oh, it’s you”, then fled the area traveling west on Cortez Blvd (charged under case number 2018-14764).

Deputy Whitlock did not pursue the defendant and later observed her failing to yield right of way at a red light and turning north onto Mariner Blvd. Deputy Whitlock then attempted to conduct another traffic stop on the defendant at which time the defendant made no attempt to stop and accelerated north to Jacqueline Rd and proceeded to travel east to Sunshine Grove Rd. I then observed the vehicle to turn north onto Sunshine Grove Rd at which time I remained a distance away without activating my overhead lights. I then observed the vehicle to stop in the middle of Sunshine Grove Rd and roll the driver’s side window down.

I observed the vehicle to have no visible tag and observed the driver to be the defendant.

The defendant was positively identified by previous interactions and calls for service. I then spoke with the defendant through her vehicle window to make sure she was ok at which time she advised that she had vehicle trouble and then turned her vehicle’s hazard lights on.

The defendant then began to demand my identification then sped off at a high rate of speed.

It was communicated over radio the defendants residence at which time she was observed driving past the residence of Keith Adams who currently has an active injunction against the defendant for stalking (case#18000644DRAXMX).

The injunction states that the defendant cannot knowingly or willingly come within 300 feet of Keith’s residence. The defendant’s residence is the property next to Keith’s.

During my previous encounter with the defendant she advised that she knew she cannot travel in front of Keith’s residence without violating the injunction; however, on this day she did willingly. The defendant also advised that she knew she could not drive do to a suspended license and on this day she did willingly as well.

I then observed the defendant to back her vehicle into her driveway and exit the vehicle at which time the defendant was later taken into custody at her residence and transported to the Hernando County Detention Center without incident.

The defendant is currently

out on bond for an unrelated case, therefore she is being held on a no bond status.

The defendant was given a felony arraignment date of 6/12/2018."

Asked to produce a driver’s license, she replied, “I don’t

The vehicle turned eastbound on Pinehurst Drive; therefore, I positioned my patrol vehicle behind it and activated my emergency lights.

The vehicle came to a stop at the intersection of Pinehurst Drive and Holiday Drive.

I made contact with the defendant who was driver of the vehicle and sole occupant, Brandi Noel Andersen. When she was advised of the infraction and asked to produce a driver’s license, she replied, “I don’t have one.” She advised her license was revoked for failing to pay DUI fines from 2012. She produced Florida Identification card, which I confirmed her identity and revealed her driving privileges are still revoked.

A check of DAVID also revealed the defendant was found “Guilty” for driving with a cancelled, suspended, or revoked license on the following dates: 5/5/2012, 6/16/2012, 7/11/2012, and 7/16/2012.

The defendant was classified as a habitual traffic violator on 10/31/2012 for a period of 60 months, which has since expired, however she still does not currently possess a valid driver’s license.

The defendant was taken into custody and transported to the Hernando County Detention Center. She was charged with Driving while license cancelled, suspended, or revoked and given a bond of $2000. She was issued a felony court date of 6/12/18 at 0900 hours in courtroom “D” at the Hernando County Courthouse."

State sues drug manufacturers, distributors

TALLAHASSEE --- Declaring that she “wasn’t scared to take them on,” Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi filed a civil suit Tuesday accusing five of the nation’s largest opioid manufacturers and four distributors of causing the opioid crisis that is killing an average 15 Floridians daily.

“We are very proud because we have just filed one of the most comprehensive lawsuits in the country on behalf of the state of Florida regarding the opioid crisis,” Bondi, standing in the lunchroom of a recovery center in Tampa, said.

Bondi, who is seeking to recover “all measure of damages allowable,” predicted a settlement with the defendants could be in the “billions.”

Five other states on Tuesday also filed lawsuits against drug maker Purdue Pharma, but Bondi called Florida’s challenge “one of the most comprehensive suits in the country.”

The lawsuit alleges that manufacturers Purdue; Endo Pharmaceuticals; Janssen Pharmaceuticals; Cephalon, Inc.; and Allergan plc --- and their related companies --- and distributors AmerisourceBergen Drug Corporation; McKesson Corporation; Cardinal Health, Inc.; and Mallinckrod LLC violated the state’s unfair and deceptive practices laws and Florida’s criminal racketeering

laws.

The manufacturers “promoted misrepresentations about the use of opioids to physicians, other prescribers, and consumers that were designed to increase opioid prescriptions and opioid use,” the 54-page complaint, filed in Pasco County, reads.

The lawsuit also accuses the manufacturing companies of using “front organizations” to promote opioids and of paying alleged medical experts, called “key opinion leaders,” to publish articles that promoted the use of opioids to treat pain but omitted information regarding the risks.

Other alleged misconduct includes misleading veterans about the dangers of mixing opioids with benzodiazepine, a drug commonly prescribed for post-traumatic stress disorder.

Distributors are accused of filling suspicious orders and failing to properly assess customers before filling the orders, among other things.

“These dangerous acts and practices have devastating consequences as you all know,” Bondi said. “It’s time the defendants paid for the pain and the destruction they have caused.”

As the opioid crisis has worsened, hundreds of local governments around the country have already sued drug manufacturers.

After trying to work out a settlement, a federal judge in Ohio last month announced plans to move ahead with three trials in 2019.

Bondi, noting that Florida is the third largest state, said she wanted to pursue separate litigation.

A bevy of law enforcement officials, as well as Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam, House Speaker Richard Corcoran, among others, joined Bondi for Tuesday’s announcement regarding the legal action.

Putnam, the leading Republican gubernatorial candidate, said he supports the lawsuit and credited Bondi's efforts to eradicate prescription drug abuse.

Putnam said he has discovered “a sad recurring theme” in his travels around the state.

“In every community, they’ve had to add staff to the medical examiner’s office and add space to the morgue. That’s how serious the opioid crisis is,” he said, adding that proceeds from the lawsuit can be used to help fund treatment.

But state Rep. Sean Shaw criticized Bondi, who has served for attorney general for eight years, for waiting too long to challenge the drug makers and distributers.

Shaw, a Tampa Democrat who is running to succeed Bondi as attorney general, called the lawsuit “too little too late for the families in our state who have been devastated by a preventable epidemic had action been take years ago before we reached this tipping point.”

723 deaths, and hydrocodone caused 245 deaths, according to a legislative staff analysis of a measure aimed at combatting opioid addiction. More than 4,000 babies were born addicted to opioids in Florida in 2016, an increase of over 1,000 percent from a decade ago, according to the Florida Department of Children and Families.

Those statistics led Gov. Rick Scott last year to declare a public health emergency due to opioids.

Earlier this year, lawmakers passed a bill that, among other things, places limits on prescriptions that doctors can write for treatment of acute pain. Doctors in many cases are limited to writing prescriptions for three-day supplies, though they can prescribe up to seven-day supplies of controlled substances if “medically necessary.”

Cancer patients, people who are terminally ill, palliative care patients and those who suffer from major trauma are exempt from the limits.

In the complaint filed Tuesday, Bondi enlisted assistance from five different law firms, including two Panhandle firms --Santa Rosa Beach-based Drake Martin Law Firm and Panama City-based Harrison, Rivard, Duncan & Buzzett --- she worked with on a lawsuit filed in response to the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. The litigation resulted in a $2 billion settlement.

BOCC agrees to rezoning, applicant plans microbrewery, 'industrial flex space'

MIAMI (AP) — A Florida man has pleaded guilty to illegally shipping firearms to Brazil, many of them concealed in water heaters and other large appliances.

Court records show that 46-year-old Frederik Barbieri of Port St. Lucie pleaded guilty Tuesday to conspiracy and unlicensed export of defense items.

Barbieri faces up to 25 years in prison when he is sentenced in July.

Federal prosecutors say one shipment traced to Barbieri that was inter-

cepted in Brazil contained 30 AK-47 and AR-15 rifles and magazines concealed in four water heaters. The gun serial numbers were obliterated.

Authorities say records later revealed dozens of shipments of other water heaters, air conditioning units and electric motors capable of concealing more firearms. A February search of his storage unit revealed 52 rifles and 2,000 rounds of ammunition.

One condition requires a navigation easement to the Hernando County Airport.

The applicant, Patricia Ortiz, AICP, of Anderson Snow Industrial Park LLC intends to "develop the property with Industrial Flex Space, a microbrewery and a limited amount of

supporting commercial uses as allowed within the Planned Development/ Corporate Park zoning district," as stated in the project narrative.

The narrative explains that industrial flex space is "attractive to a myriad of new industries including medical, technology, and design/ build; and it is more visually appealing than traditional industrial or warehouse uses because the loading areas and mechanical equipment are not visible from offsite and the more noxious uses associated with industrial zoning are excluded."

Retail use of the property will be limited to no more than 30% of the development’s overall square footage, as

required by the master plan.

The rezoning petition went through, but the applicant may have some additional details to work through per Alan Garman, Manager, with Civil-Tech Consulting Services LLC. Civil-Tech represents the original owner of the property, Holland Spring Industrial Properties. School Board discusses how to secure funding to improve school safety

Following the Marjory-Stoneman Douglas school shooting in Parkland, Florida, officials passed legislation requiring counties to harden school security and make schools safer. Specific details of what is to be done “remains in the shade,” according to School Board Chairman Mark Johnson, since security strategies are the focus. The board elected to hold an “in-theshade meeting,” where they will discuss the specific items and costs in order to increase school safety, expected to start at $22-million.

Hernando County School District Superintendent Dr. Lori Romano doesn’t see any way around the funding problem without a tax increase, and asked that the referendum be put on the November 2018 ballot. Speaking for the taxpayers, school board member Beth Narverud said “The issue is, ‘when will it stop?’” In 2012, voters approved a ½ cent tax, however, those funds cannot be used legally for the new mandate. “Every time we get money, we need more money.”

Vice Chair Linda Prescott is sure that the voters are aware of the problem. “Every day, there’s another shooting somewhere. Very sadly, this is … doing the marketing for us.”

Director of Finance & Purchasing Joyce McIntyre along with Financial Advisor Brent Wilder of Public Financial Management (PFM) presented funding options to the school board at the April 24, 2018 meeting. Wilder described the problem as a “... another unfunded mandate from the state,” and went on to describe funding sources, and the differences between them.

There is $720,000 available to the county in the form of a state grant that the school board would

need to apply for. Recent discussions with the Board of County Commissioners regarding School Resource Officers (SROs) produced the amount needed per year for the school improvements to be approximately $2.6-million per year, and at present, the county schools have around half of that amount available.

To obtain funding, a Capital Outlay Millage of 1.50 mills would be considered. If the millage rate is increased for two years, the HCSB can use funds for capital or operating expenses. Tidal Brewing Company Opens

The long-awaited opening of Tidal Brewing Company happened on May 5, 2018, what we commonly call, “Cinco De Mayo.”

David and Maxine Peitzman and their staff served their wide array craft beers to a steady stream of patrons who enjoy a good beer that you can’t get everywhere. The brewing happens about fifty feet from where it gets served.

Everything about Tidal is unique. In addition to the usual 12-ounces, 4 and 16 ounce pours are available.

The airy, nautical atmosphere was constructed in a space that once was a Mobil convenience store, but shows no resemblance, save for the “Car Wash” sign that now points at the

brew house. Even the furniture is one-of-akind, crafted by a local company, Villarubia Custom Creations.

T-shirts and hats and other merchandise is also available, as well as 32-ounce Growlers, which are poured when you order.

The staff at Tidal is knowledgeable as well as passionate about their beer. You’re going to find brews with names such as “The Heretic” and “Natural Succession” and probably have some questions about the ingredients, which they’ll be happy to answer.

David Peitzman and his wife Maxine are certified teachers as well as new business owners. David told The Sun, “We're super excited to show Hernando County just how complex and unique beer can be. We're here to educate so please ask questions.”

Boneless chicken breast (sliced thin) Salt and Pepper to taste 1 cup flour 1 cup Seasoned Italian bread crumbs Vegetable oil for frying lemons cut into wedges Eggs

Directions

Use a dish for each, beaten eggs with salt and pepper, flour and another for bread crumbs.

Dip chicken in flour first, shake off excess, dip into eggs then into bread crumbs. Place on plate and start same on next piece. (note: do not stack on each other).

Heat oil in large pan, medium heat. Fry chicken until golden brown and no pink in center of chicken.

Note: use oven on est 200 to keep you done chicken warm until ready to serve.

Serve with lemon slice.

Wildlife ranger camps offered at state park WHEN: June and July, 2018 WHERE: Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park, 4150 S Suncoast Blvd., Homosassa, will offer two-week wildlife ranger camps from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the park this summer. From June 19 to 23, is for children ages 8 and 9; and the second camp, from July 17 to 21, is for children ages 10 to 12.

Applications are available in the park’s Visitor Center.

Each program is limited to 24 campers and allocated on a first-come basis, with preference to those who have not attended previously. Topics include mammals, birds, reptiles, manatees, the ocean, sea turtles and saving energy through alternative sources. Indoor and outdoor activities include nature hunts, visiting wildlife areas in the park and other scientific activities. Cost per child is $75 and includes supplies and a T-shirt. Central Spring Football Closeup

With prep spring football in its third week of practices throughout the state of Florida, we take a closer look at each of Hernando County’s five programs in the weeks leading into the spring games. The next team we take a look at is Central, which heads into its first season under the watch of new head coach John Warren.

The Bears finished 2-7 last season under the watch of former lead man Chris Sands, who stepped down to take the same position over at Eau Gallie High School.

The Bears have a lot of work to do if they look to compete within Class 5A, District 7 amongst the likes of Hernando and Nature Coast. We now take a closer look at the Central Bears this spring.

Software updates are time sensitive

ntil recently, there were always two conflicting opinions among the people who maintain computers. There was the desire to install upgrades as soon as they are available and those who felt the need to wait until the issues with the upgrades are worked out before upgrading.

In the past many companies and individuals lagged a year or more behind the latest updates. This allowed them to test that all the updates would work with their software and since they were using older updates many of the issues created by the updates would have been fixed.

HERNANDO HIGH CLASS OF 1958 REUNION: The Hernando High School Class of 1958 held its 60 year reunion recently at the Brooksville Golf & Country Club. With one classmate traveling from as far away as Hawaii, the group shared warm memories of their early student days and fondly remembered those who have passed on. They call this day of service “RED day” and it is a direct fruit of Keller Williams’ ‘Legacy Worth Leaving initiative.’ RED stands for Renew, Energize, Donate - and that is exactly what they are doing here in Hernando County.

RED DAY Our local Keller Williams franchise brought over 75 agents to work and serve with The Arc Nature Coast staff at their Neff Lake, Life Skills Development Campus. Another 25 agents went to Hernando Elementary to do landscape and odd jobs around the school.

This mural, which was painted by Keller Williams agents, is a representation of the building that the Arc Nature Coast is planning to build on campus in the place of the old farmhouse.

The agents helped weed, clear trees and branches left by hurricane Irma, clean out old storage and prepare the campus for the 2 mi, 5K, and 10K run, and a night “Under the Tuscan Moon” event with Papa Joe’s, both of which are hosted

by The Arc Nature Coast as fundraisers for there capital campaign.

Annual Mermaid Chase: A fun paddle for our marine resources

by SAVANNAH ALDAY STAFF WRITER Weeki Wachee, FLSpirits were high on Saturday, March 12, as the 27 participants awaited the 2nd annual Mermaid Chase. The event brought a flood of kayaks to Linda Pederson Park. This year, the paddling trail stretched for 3.5 miles. It was a new course and was even longer than the two mile trail from 2017. Because of the new length in miles, whoever placed 1st in the race would set a brand new record.

Running the time clock was Erin Daly, from Red Mule Runners and Assistant State Attorney.

She was full of energy and buzzing from place to place and person to person.

County Clerk and election candidate for Hernando County Circuit Judge, Don Barbee Jr., also gave a helping hand at the time clock and offered his assistance and support whenever needed. Extra kayaks were available, from Turtle Springs, for those who did not bring their own.

Most of the participants in the race, this year, were locals. However, Trudy Ensminger, a Hernando County resident, had friends visiting her all the way from Virginia and a small town in Pennsylvania to participate in the Mermaid Chase. Trudy, along with her husband Bill, and their two friends Pam Shredder and Wendy Bressler Baranak, could not contain their excitement for this year’s race.

They had participated last year and enjoyed it so much that they wouldn’t even consider missing a year. Unfortunately, Trudy Ensminger was unable to kayak with her hus-

band and friends due to problems with her ankle.

She was disappointed but was a true supporter as she cheered on and encouraged her entourage as they paddled the trail.

While participants rushed through the course, onlookers and volunteers were able to take pictures and speak with the resident mermaid, visiting from Weeki Wachee Springs. Sammy, the mermaid, has been flipping her tail ever since last September and loves every minute of her experiences with the other Weeki Wachee mermaids.

Cheerful, although confined to a chair, because of her pink tail, Sammy greeted every visitor that approached her and never declined a photo.

The time flew by and our first place Single Kayak winner, Larry Cox, won a course record finishing at 42:46. Paddling not too far behind Larry was second place single winner, Kurt Glacy, at 42:50.

Third place winner for the Singles Male Division was Jared Ferreira, clocking in at 44:33.

The first place winners of the Tandem (double) were Corey and Ty Denninger placing a course record for Tandem at 43:20. Second and third

place winners were Jen St. Aubier and Maria Warney (48:37) and Deborah Chavanne and Debra Henderson (1:06:43).

Wynn Hamilton came paddling in at 50:58, winning first place of the Female Single Kayak Division. Following close behind her were second and third place winners, Margaret Hankan (51:44) and Michelle Mataress (53:08).

Finally, winning the first paddle board course record, was Bill Daly, sailing in at 1:00:04.

Once, the last kayak was pulled out of the water, Brittany Hall-Scharf, our Hernando County Sea Grant Agent from the UF/IFAS Extension, was able to give a few words.

Brittany explained how the proceeds from the Mermaid Chase are able to fund future projects geared towards coastal and marine education and restoration.

The day ended with an awards ceremony, as the first, second, and third winners from each division were announced.

They were given stunning shell medals, handcrafted by the talented Terry Weglarz, and had their picture taken with Sammy, the Weeki Wachee Mermaid.

were given to each and every one of the volunteers, including Coastline Realty for providing much needed water bottles and the Hernando County Firefighters for volunteering to offer assistance if a safety issue should arise, as well as everything they do for our county on a daily basis.

Each and every one of the participants, whether they placed or not, had a wonderful time and gave their best effort. It was reported that racers saw several manatees and dolphins while on the course, making their time out on the water unforgettable.

The passion flower

Looking for a low maintenance beautiful native wildflower to place in your landscape?

How about something that attracts butterflies and other pollinators, as well.

Do you need a groundcover or climbing vine?

If you answered yes, then the elegant passion flower is the plant you may be looking for.

Passion flower (Passiflora spp.) is a wonderful native wildflower that will thrive in any landscape. Passion flower can grow in full sun and light shade.

This is a quick growing plant, but is not considered invasive. It can be argued that the passion flower produces one of the most remarkable flowers of any plant.

Flowers are produced in the spring and summer and can reach a size of 5 inches. Flowers range in color from pink to the ever-popular purple.

Flowers last about a day, but passion flower does not disappoint. This is a rapid grower and prolific bloomer, so you will have flowers most every day.

The one benefit of this plant is its ability to attract a host of beneficial organisms. The nectar is popular with European honeybees, native bees, parasitoid wasps and other valuable pollinators. Butterflies are

examples of pollinators taking nectar from its large flowers. You will find that this plant will attract certain butterflies, specifically the gulf fritillary and zebra longwing. This is because passion vine is a host plant to both species.

The zebra longwing is Florida’s state butterfly.

This is a great plant to attract and keep butterflies in your yard.

You can attract both species, but typically, one will dominate depending on where passion flower is placed in your landscape. If it is in full sun and in open areas, you will have predominantly gulf fritillaries. If the plant is placed in light shade or on located on the edge of a woodland area or conservation area, then you will have predominantly zebra longwings.

One of the most interesting of passion flowers is the maypop (Passiflora incarnata). Maypops make a nice groundcover and produce a large fleshy fruit. Maypop can be found in natural areas throughout Hernando.

The name maypop originated from the sound the fruit makes when stepping on it.

The “popping” sound was a favorite game of kids. For native passion flowers, you may find them available at a local nursery or garden center.

Be sure to purchase native passion flower.

that I can help my fellow caregivers.

When I trace my five thousand plus days of caregiving for both my parents, (Mom dying of vascular dementia) I write about the techniques that helped relieve our greatest hardships. I found that there was no expeditious way to get through this; it was the most prolonged and painstaking road I ever marched.

Observing firsthand everything this diseases stole from my family, I

can only try and make sure something fruitful will grow from this. I continue to receive multiple e-mails and phone calls thanking me for the articles I still write for the newspapers.

A large percentage of the correspondences included the lament, “I wish I had read this while my husband was still alive.”

Wives, fathers, brothers, sisters, grandmothers, I have heard this from them all.

Remember, knowledge is power. Former caregivers, please share helpful suggestions with your family members, neighbor or with anyone stumbling down that rugged road of caregiving.

Until the day I die, I will preach on the most effective tactics for helping anyone suffering from memory impairment: Alzheimer’s, vascular dementia, traumatic brain injuries, cancer, and any patient who suffers short term memory loss. Please reach out and help your fellow caregivers!

when the Quran was revealed to the Prophet Mohammed, but he did not decree it a holy month of fast until a long time later.

The fast is the fourth of the five pillars of Islam.

The other pillars include faith in the Islam religion, prayer, helping the needy and, of course, the Hajj.

But food also plays an important role in celebrating Ramadan. Each day of fasting is followed by an evening meal shared with relatives and friends, either at home or in restaurants where special menus are laid on.

In my flying days, Beirut, once known as the Paris of the East, had much to offer during Ramadan and restaurants and cafés would cook the finest Lebanese specialties. Sweet makers would stay open late to make exclusive Ramadan sweets; and just before sunrise, drummers called the tebbalin would walk the streets beating their drums to wake people up for a last meal before fasting begins for the next day.

Foods eaten during Ramadan vary from one Islamic country to another, but the ritual is the same.

As soon as the sun sets, the fast is broken with some sort of liquid — blessed water in Turkey and Iran, harira (a lemony soup with chick peas, pulses and herbs) in Morocco, and sharab qamar el din (a sweet drink made by diluting dried apricot paste in water, popular in Lebanon, Syria and Egypt.

And with the sweet drinks there will be dates.

Dates are a staple in the Middle East and traditionally known as the food Muhammad ate when breaking his fast.

After this small “breakfast,” everyone would say the maghrib - the dusk prayer after which they enjoy an evening meal called “iftar.”

Milk, water, salads and fruits are an essential part of these meals to help make up for the dehydration suffered during the day.

Typical meals begin with a sweet drink, dates and fattoush made with yogurt, spiced shredded chicken, chickpeas, toasted pine nuts & pita bread followed by soup and a meat or fish dish

with rice.

The more elaborate specialities include quzi (whole lamb stuffed with rice, meat and nuts and roasted in the oven), mehshi bil maqedem (stuffed vegetables cooked on a bed of lamb), kabseh (a layered cake of lamb, vegetables and rice, a Saudi speciality. with mint and garlic and toasted pine nuts).

The selection of fruit and sweets is impressive all year round but it becomes even more so during Ramadan. My particular favorite is Halawet el jebn — a semolina and cheese pudding with fragrant sugar syrup, but there’s also the delicious hadaf (long rectangular baklava with a walnut filling) and sahlab (a thick drink made with milk and powdered dried tubers of orchid.

In Abu Dhabi and Dubai in the Gulf, my favorite Ramadan dish was sambosas, sometimes called samboksas or samosas. It’s a fried or baked dish with a savory vegetable, lamb or chicken filling and served with a mint chutney.

Tarraweeyah prayers happen each night and some spend much of the night in prayers and Quran recitation. It’s a time of contemplation and sacrifice.

A close friend who lives in the Gulf says she actually eats less at the evening meal and doesn’t socialize much. She says it’s her personal preference and she reads the Quran as much as possible to feel more spiritual.

Once the meal is over, people go out to socialize.

They visit each other, especially their elders, or go to cafés in the town squares and enjoy the festive lantern lights and decorations.

To mark the end of Ramadan, there’s a threeday spiritual celebration known as Eid al-Fitr to rejoice in the completion of the fast with family and friends. Eid al-Fitr is also special for children. They dress up in their finest and are given gifts of money by adults. The little girls carry handbags to stuff the notes in.

here’s nothing as rejuvenating to the soul and spirit as time spent I the outdoors and it’s where I spend a great deal of my time.

I’ve never been fond of television or sitting inside with conditioned air and limited views. I’d rather be outside in the shade of an old oak tree, especially if I’m afforded the chance to get in a little hunting.

Which, is something I’ve been doing a lot of and one thing I’m noticing this year whilst I’m out and about in the forests, is a bumper crop of ticks.

The infestation isn’t local to our county as I’ve been all over the state in recent weeks and am finding ticks plentiful wherever I go. After a talk with a dermatologist buddy of mine, he offered some information that rushed me to the computer to further

research just as soon as I got home. The number of people getting diseases transmitted by tick bites has more than tripled in the United States in recent years. Since 2004, at least nine such diseases have been discovered or newly introduced here.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website had a lot of good information, but didn’t suggest that anybody should drop plans for softball games, hog hunts or hammock snoozes. Mostly, the officials emphasized that it’s increasingly important for everyone, especially children, be protected from ticks with bug repellent. There are a few products like Permanone, especially marketed for ticks, while any repellent with high concentrations of DEET are strongly recommend-

New reports of other tick related illnesses are on the rise all across the country with a new diagnosis being made weekly for anaplasmosis, babesiosis, Rocky Mountain spotted fever, rabbit fever, Powassan virus and other ills, some of them only recently discovered.

My friend, Doctor Robert Norman, of Tampa, said warm weather helps ticks breed and transmit disease faster. But after a certain point, the hotter and drier it gets, the more quickly the pests die. So, disease transmission to humans peaks somewhere between mildly warm and hellishly hot weather.

Demermatologists like himself closer scrutinize rashes at the site of a bite. Laboratories began looking for different pathogens in blood samples, especially in patients who did not have Lyme and that led to the discovery of previously unknown diseases.

So, when you’re outdoors, whatever your reason, be aware. Check yourself for ticks during

Formerly employed by AT&T and The Dairy Service In Brooksville, Robert moved to Texas in the early 70’s where he worked for Reichart Electric, Aucoin & Miller and Summer’s Electric in Freeport, TX, retiring in 2005. He was a cattle rancher for 30 years and went into the hay business in 2005.

Robert was a Lifetime Member of the Brazoria County Cattlemen’s Association. He loved ranching, hunting (looking for deer more than hunting), fishing and telling detailed stories.

Predeceased by an infant son, Jeffrey Andrew, and by his father, Irvin W. Vaughn, he is survived by his son, Robert Matthew Irvin Vaughn of Angleton, TX, his mother, Jayne S. Vaughn of Brooksville, FL, his sisters: Dona D. Vaughn (Ron Raines) of New York, NY, Faye Stine (Allen) of Gainesville, FL, Linda Knaust (Peter) of Bermuda Dunes, CA, Carol Flynn (David) of Hudson, FL, Cheryl Elliott of Brooksville, FL, nine nieces and nephews, eleven great nieces and nephews and one great-great niece. He is also survived by cherished friends: Tommy Sonnen, Lisa Sonnen Clark, Elliott Clark, Ken Messer, and many more.

Don’t miss out on the Pre-Discharge benefits if you’re active duty and eligible for those. Starting 180 days before separation or retirement, you can submit a claim for disability compensation. It will take a minimum of 90 days to get you organized with that so it’s all in place by the time you’re out.

You’ll need VA Form 21-526EZ and your medical records. Read all of the details on this page so you don’t miss anything. Mark important dates on a calendar — it’s that critical that you don’t miss deadlines.

We are the caretaker of our thoughts

Creating something valuable takes focus and effort Many Americans have lived an idyllic life. We have had no war reaching our soil, have a solid economy and have sufficient credit or income to purchase almost any item we want immediately. This is truly a materialistic, instant gratification culture. Most adults like their children, want whatever they desire. This creates a lifestyle that too often places them on the edge of insolvency. These incessant purchasers scramble to maintain their lifestyle of spending. Their offspring are left on their own to enter a fantasy world of video games, Harry Potter magic, Facebook, and instant gratification of their own wants.

These youngsters are not being taught reality, moral values, skills and rules necessary to be successful in the real business world. The parent’s belief in providing goods is more important than teaching them the skills necessary to function in the future.

Modern children are victims of permissive, materialistic parenting that has been a dismal failure in preparing children for adulthood.

Their youngsters are usually oblivious to their parent’s fight to stay above water so as not to drown in debt. These children are normally not aware of the parents’ serious discussion about finances. In the children’s life, money does grow on trees. Their parents use plastic cards and miraculously everything they want is obtained with the ease of signing their name.

In our children’s heads there is no urgent motivation to mature into adulthood as they believe everything will be similar tomorrow with their parents there to care for them. These parents do little to enlighten the children that eventually they will not be able to provide for them in the future.

Children should learn the skills needed to be independent and self reliant in order to become adults and start the process of advancing in their chosen employment path.

Without parents preparing their children to be independent they will be dependent on others or the government. Our children are living in a delusional world since they never witnessed their parent’s beginning climb up the economic ladder to create an exciting and successful life. They have no idea about what it took nor do the average parents share their initial stories of hardship of starting their journey to financial security.

Many youngsters never saw their parent’s actual working place. Some might have visited their parent’s office on a special “bring your child to work day.”

These occasions are more a show and tell experience not a normal workday. These unfortunate young people have little to aspire to and almost no drive to get there. These youngsters grow into young adults without realizing the tenacity and perseverance that was and still is required to maintain and advance to more demanding and higher paying positions.

The lack of real world knowledge has a significant impact on these youngster’ education.

They have no academic goals to achieve for there is no reason for them to become independent from their family. Too many are in school only for the reason that their parents insisted on it and too many act out as they see no reason to be there.

These students pass the time in school more as a social event rather than a learning experience.

They do not feel they have to gain the tools to be an excellent learner. They do not realize that they need knowledge in order to open all possible options for their own future. Dear Editor: We have observed the public discourse surrounding the case of Mizella Robinson with increasing unease. A sampling of the more common sentiments expressed on Facebook during Sheriff Al Neinhuis’s press conference in March includes: “If this kid did it to get out of school, she’ll sure be out of school now for a very long time”; “You play, you pay”; “Charge her as an adult and to the fullest extent. #Mizella4Prison”. These are the ragings of an angry mob, not a healthy civic debate.

At that same press conference, public officials stated their intent to, in essence, make an example of Miss

Robinson – a 17-year-old child, it bears repeating. She is to be prosecuted as an adult, and faces a significant jail sentence that will irrevocably destroy her life. But what does this accomplish?

Is the mere hope that it will act as a deterrent really sufficient justification for such harsh treatment? No one was physically harmed, nor was physical harm even the intent of her crimes.

Incarceration is an expensive undertaking, and will doom this young woman to a life of otherness and struggle.

There is another path.

As alumni of Central High School, we call for leniency.

The heavy emotions associated with this ordeal have

tipped the scales of justice against Miss Robinson.

The long-term ruin of this child’s life is a grave consequence. In our estimation, it far exceeds any benefit gleaned by a heavy-handed approach to her prosecution and sentencing. If it is healing we seek, rather than our own emotional catharsis, we would be better served by addressing the causes of these unfortunate incidents than by “throwing the book” at the symptoms and hoping it deters future wrongdoers.

Equal Aging

I am 3 years 5 months and 10 days older than my wife. Over the years, however, I keep growing older than she. It happens like this: My wife stopped aging at 29 when she turned 30.

So when I turned 39 I was a full decade older. She made fun of it, asking me, “How does it feel to be married to a much younger chick?” I shrugged and said, “About the same.”

She gave me her “look,” and I amended my answer with whatever I thought she wanted to hear. I don’t remember what I said, but it was convoluted and ongoing complicated, and at one point I thought I might need to start writing the stuff down. But eventually she stopped teasing me, and we went about our married way.

(You have to understand that my wife was a hot babe. When she was twenty-one and I was twenty-four and our two kids were in diapers, we went to a barbeque buffet at my colonel’s house, and while there several of my fellow workers, who had never met her, pointed her out and mentioned that she was a hot babe. I expected her to stay 39 for another decade, so I was astonished when she turned 50 and agreed to be 49. I had already bought a supply of 3-shaped candles for her birthdays. Well, it wasn’t too expensive to replace the 3s with 4s, and again I was in her age range.

However, I suspect from various hints of looks and other gestures that she will not like being 59 when she turns 60. She gets cranky about the subject. As far as I’m concerned, my wife will stay 49 until she turns 70, at which time she may consent to be 59. But I doubt it.

Be it known, though, that I refuse to be 20 years older. I will insist on equal aging. If she’s still 49 when she’s 67, I’ll revert to 52 when I turn 70.

I read a book years ago by Dr. Norman Vincent Peale called, “The amazing results of positive thinking” and I recommend it as an inspiration and encouragement to your spiritual life. He explains that our mind is filled with all types of thoughts and persuasions but everyone is held accountable to manage them.

We have the ability to resist and ignore the negative influences that hinder our life and to also embrace the suggestions that are positive and encouraging. I remember after studying about this principle, I had an interesting dream. I do not always place a lot of credibility in dreams because sometimes I think they are related with late-night pizza binges, but on the other hand, the Bible reveals that some dreams have been used as a legitimate way that God can communicate. Anyway, here was my dream.

I found myself on a dusty construction site and as I looked around, I noticed workers with shovels and they were busy digging up small trees and bushes. Some were driving trucks and others were using chainsaws and in the distance, I noticed a bulldozer was pushing over large trees. They were obviously clearing the land but I was not sure for what reason. I approached one of the workers and asked who was in charge but he just kept walking. For some reason, I sensed in the dream that Jesus was overseeing this operation and so I started searching for him. I was expecting any moment to see him in a white tunic, sandals, and hard-hat, but I never did.

Finally, I saw a man that was writing on a clipboard and he appeared to be a supervisor.

I went over to him and said, “excuse me, sir, can you tell me where to find the project manager?” As he started walking away he turned his head and calmly said, “you are.” This is the last thing I remember.

There is an old rhyme that says, “Your mind is a garden, your thoughts are seeds, you can grow flowers or you can grow weeds.” This may sound silly, but in relation to our subject, it makes perfect sense to consider that we are the gardener and caretaker of our own mind. We may not want to admit it, but our spiritual journey was never intended to be a carefree experience but rather to fulfill a destiny of specific meaning and purpose. Since it’s been established that what we think is directly associated with how we feel along with what we say and do, we can agree that whatever has taken root and is growing in our mind is having a huge impact on who we are.

As the wind and the birds distribute seeds upon the earth, likewise the voices and experiences of this life are deposited within our soul. Each of us is vulnerable to this natural process, however, in the light of free-will, we have been given the authority and responsibility to choose what we think about.

There is an interesting scripture found in Romans chapter 12 that refers to our mental accountability, as Paul declares in verse one that we should present our lives as a living and holy sacrifice which God expects us to do. Verse 2 continues about how this can be accomplished.

“And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you might prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect will of God.” The idea here is that we must awaken and realize as Proverbs 23:7 See HOLLAND, Page 20

better things with his time and to try another business.

During this time his parents and siblings had also moved up from South Florida to Spring Hill.

His father’s side of the family had always been involved in technology, with several members working at IBM. His mother’s side has been in the automotive field for many generations.

The family decided to have a meeting to figure out what they would do going forward. Achilles decided to combine the experience from both sides of the family to sell automobile transmissions on the Internet. This was a bold and new concept at the time, but Achilles was determined to show the world what a website could do. The company was started with very little capital, using his personal credit card with a $5,000 limit. This was a true “start-up.”

They looked around and found a 1,000 square foot space in a little plaza off Spring Hill Drive. At first just the family was involved. Uncle Chris drove up from South Florida and donated a trailer full of transmission cores. They worked together at the shop: Achilles, his brother Bobby, parents Curt and Emily, and the support of his grandparents Achilles & Filio. They officially opened in January 2003.

The family hoped and prayed to sell a transmission to pay the bills in the first month. They wound up selling eight transmissions. Business steadily grew and at the end of the year they had sold over 200 transmissions. The company's sales increased three to four fold a year thereafter.

To accommodate their growth, they moved the business to a 3,000 square foot building in late 2004.

This was a big gamble as they had to continue to grow in order to support the additional overhead.

They remained in that location for about six years and the growth continued at an exponential rate.

In 2010 Monster was ready to expand yet again, moving to their Brooksville location which is around 22,000 square feet.

During that time frame they began receiving national coverage on multiple television shows and

With Achilles’ knack for marketing, he established relationships with producers, TV hosts, and publishers from all over the auto industry.

After settling into their facility with roughly a dozen employees, Achilles wanted to celebrate with a grand opening.

Initially, it was going to be something small like a ribbon cutting and a car show in the parking lot.

However Achilles doesn’t like to do anything small, so it turned into a massive community event that had to be held at the fairgrounds next door.

There were fireworks, monster trucks, a huge car, truck and bike show, a circus with elephants, live entertainment and all proceeds donated to charity. At Monster Transmission they enjoy going all out and giving back to the community. They put the event together in less than three months and had thousands of people in attendance.

Their continued growth has lead to international exposure with sales in

over 50 countries, including transmissions for the President of Indonesia.

They’ve also had famous customer celebrities like Steven Tyler of Aerosmith. As well as their fair share of custom projects like building transmissions for Batmobile replicas, the U.S. Military, and Feature Films!

They have appeared on over 25 different television shows and their name is now well known throughout the auto industry. Their work is highly trusted and sought after. Recently a customer shipped them his truck from Pennsylvania to have the transmission installed. The work could have been done locally, but he believes so strongly in the Monster Transmission brand that he decided to send his truck to Florida for the installation.
