The 57th Annual Hermann Sons Life Statewide Bowling Tournament went out with a bang. We had three more teams this year than last. Thanks to everyone that worked so hard to make this happen. I know I said it over and over at the tournament, but ladies we have to get busy and recruit more lady bowlers. The men are putting us to shame in number of bowlers.

The opening ceremony included Vice President of Member Benefits Cecily Kelly presenting a check from the Home Office to Tournament President Janice Dueitt. We were honored to have past presidents of the tournament, Roy Dueitt and Roland Griffin, plus Janice Kuhen, past secretary, at the tournament. Roland and Janice participated in the tournament. Jean Dueitt returned to bowling this year and it was her 56th tournament!

This year, instead of having one person throw out the first ball, we chose to honor past board members who we lost this past year. Janice Howk threw out the first ball to honor husband and past board member Carl Howk. Pat Spradling threw a ball out to honor past board members David Kastner and Buster Schaffer. It was a special moment for the tournament and all the bowlers.

This year bowlers came from Austin, Dallas, Comfort, Fort Worth, Boerne, San Antonio, Fredericksburg, San Marcos, Burton, Bryan, Giddings, Cameron, Rockdale, Houston, Seguin, Schulenburg and LaGrange. We even had one man come from Ada, Okla. and one lady from LaGrange, Ga.

There was lots of excitement out on the lanes this year. History was made in the lady’s doubles competition with a tie for first place. Partners Karen Burns-Lane and Tricia Burns tied with Kecia Andries and Shannon Jones. Also, these four bowl team together.

High game and series for the ladies went to Kecia Andries with a 269 game and 685 series. Right behind her was Patty Thielepape with 247-581; 210-542 by Bernadette Friesenhahn; 210-515 by Beverly Kubala; 234-626 by Trisha Burns; 204-550 by Karen BurnsLane; 205-524 by Darlene Jones; and 200-505 by Nanette Wells.

Now the men must understand there was some great bowling, but I can’t take up a whole page and list all of you, so I’m going with the highest. High game and series go to Terry Fogarty for a 277 game and 711 series. Right behind him was Mike Faulkenbery 265-701. Other games and series were 269-634 by Vince Wos; 255663 by Dale Potter; 247-631 by Roland Griffin; 247-642 by John Gates; 247-642 by Stefan Ranney; 256-678 by Bart Wells; 264-665 by Aaron White; 247-673 by Robert Hodge; 244-624 by Kevin Schmid; 247-609 by Donnie Burns; 227654 by Michael Tofel; 224-664 by Trey Castor; 234-664 by Trey Castor; 234-631 by Scott Jones; 244630 by Jesse Castor; 232-639 by Terry McFarland; 224-649 by Chris Gorrell; and 238-630 by Rodney Ottmers.

Congrats to all these high scorers.

The tournament site for 2023 will be the Bandera Bowling Center, 6700 Huebner Road, in San Antonio. The dates will be July 29 and 30, so put this date on your calendar and make your plans to come bowl and have some fun. You might make history.
