Membership Picnic to be held in conjuction with Camp Open House on June 8

COMFORT – This year’s Hermann Sons Life Membership Picnic will be held in conjunction with the annual Camp Open House on Saturday, June 8. All members, family and friends are invited.

Gates open at 9 a.m. and activities will be held through 1:30 p.m. at both the Hilltop site for boys and the Riverside site for girls. Lunch will be available at both sites for everyone from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Family Fun Day June 22 Hermann Sons Life will honor 2024 graduates

SAN ANTONIO – All members are invited to the annual Hermann Sons Life Family Fun Day at Six Flags Fiesta Texas on June 22, 2024.

Invitations have been mailed to eligible and registered Shining Stars. Each registered Shining Star will receive one complimentary ticket. Shining Stars must have been registered by April 1, 2024, for free admission and be current on all premiums and dues. One chaperone ticket purchase is required for Shining Stars and their ticket is $60. All additional tickets for all ages are $65 each. Tickets can be purchased online at hermannsonslife.org, go to Store.

parking, park admission with free access to the water park, a meal and all-day access to all the park amenities. This is more than a $100 value. The meal will be served from 3 to 4 p.m. at the Picnic Pavilion. Unfortunately, if season passes are used, lunch cannot be provided.

It’s almost time to salute our 2024 graduates! Hermann Sons

Life will honor members who are graduating high school or college by featuring them on social media and in the Hermann Sons Life newspaper in July.

Entries should include contact phone number, student’s name, high school or university, which lodge they belong to, future plans, parent(s) names, school achievements and activities.

Photos should be of good quality or cannot be published. Email photos and information to elaines@hermannsonslife. org.

The deadline to submit is June 12, 2024. Graduates must be Hermann Sons Life members.

President reflects on career coming full circle

With camp registration in full swing, I can’t help but be reminded of many amazing memories at Riverside Camp and how much it meant to me growing up I’m so thankful my mom had the foresight for our family to become members all those years ago Hermann Sons Life Camp, Dance, and even bowling (in what is now known as the San Antonio Hermann Sons Home Association building next door to the Home Office) were a large part of my childhood Thousands of lives are impacted each year through our youth programs for junior members As we chart the future for Hermann Sons Life, fiscally sound decisions are vital to ensure our member benefit programs are able to continue and our organization as a whole remain healthy

Little did I know that my career would come full circle with my childhood experiences in my decision to join the Home Office at Hermann Sons Life While I have enjoyed every chapter of my insurance career, I yearned for a deeper connection to my community – a way to give back that aligned with my passion for insurance

When I began my insurance ca-

reer in 1988, I accepted an entrylevel position with the mindset that I would take it until something better came along However, 1989 was a turning point when I helped the Smith family navigate a tragic situation after their home burned down Recognizing the difference I could make in people’s lives during what is often a very challenging and emotional time solidified my decision for insurance to become my lifelong career Over the past 35+ years, I have had the privilege of assisting countless individuals, families, and businesses in navigating the complexities of insurance coverage

It may be hard to understand my passion for the paperwork aspect of the industry – the contracts, illustrations, compliance – I find great fulfillment in it Laying the groundwork for a secure future, whether for a family or an organization, necessitates building a solid foundation formed by comprehensive planning and meticulous paperwork While building relationships and working closely with people is essential, adhering to contracts, compliance requirements, and industry regulations can sometimes seem at odds with that personal connection

Webinar series will promote stroke awareness

SAN ANTONIO – The Health and Human Service Commission’s Office of Acquired Brain Injury is hosting a webinar series in May 2024 to promote awareness and provide education to the public in recognition of Stroke Awareness Month.

Presenters will include Hermann Sons Life member and former HSL Board Director Suzanne Hildebrand of Live Oak. Suzanne was elected to the HSL Board in 2017 and served through 2022.

Governor Rick Perry appointed Suzanne to the Council on Cardiovascular Disease and Stroke in 2011 and she was reappointed by Governor Greg Abbott. Additionally, in 2022, Governor

Abbott named Hildebrand chair of the council. The council is charged with developing an effective and resource‐efficient plan to reduce the morbidity, mortality and economic burden of cardiovascular disease and stroke in the State of Texas.

Suzanne is a retired legal administrator. She has previously served on the Live Oak City Council and as a member of the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education appointed by Governor Bill Clements. Additionally, she founded the first chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving in the State of Texas for the San Antonio and Bexar County area,

as well as serving as their past president.

Across the United States an average of 800,000 people experience a stroke each year. The impact of a stroke can cause long-term disability and each injury is unique to the person. A stroke’s effect on the person and their care partners can be significant and require unique interventions.

‘Gunner’ responsible for Camp operations

SAN ANTONIO – Ian “Gunner”

Brassett has served as Hermann Sons Life Executive Camp Director in Comfort since October 2018.

Ian is responsible for operating the two Camp sites, Hilltop for boys and Riverside for girls. He prepares the sites for the campers, hires staff, schedules all activities, purchases supplies, manages the facilities and supervises and trains summer camp staff.

He also serves as photographer, DJ and takes care of many other odd jobs that come up during the camp season. Ian

manages camp facility rentals for groups and special occasions during the off-season. This summer marks Ian’s 36th

Suzanne, who cared for her husband after a stroke, and Tommye Austin, PhD, with BJC Healthcare in Missouri, will discuss their journey to advocate for the hospital systems in San Antonio to become stroke certified, the modifiable risk factors that can lead to a stroke, and the advocacy priorities to help prevent strokes. The presentation will also review a free tool to identify and help increase awareness about the risk factors and ways to reduce the risks of a stroke.

Three new agents join Sales Department

SAN ANTONIO – The Hermann Sons Life Sales Department welcomes three new agents, Darrell R. Steubing, Carol Lopez and Isabel Diaz Servin.

Darrell has been a professional insurance agent since 1974 starting and managing agencies. A resident of Boerne since 1982, Darrell’s sales coverage area includes Boerne, Comfort and San Antonio.

Darrell grew up along with several generations of his family in the Helotes-Leon Valley area. He was baptized, confirmed and married at Zion Lutheran Church of Helotes.

Carol is a resident of San Antonio. Her sales coverage areas include New Braunfels, San Antonio and Atascosa County. She has 10 years Medicare ex-

perience and has also worked as a tax advisor, was a life and health agent, was an ACA marketplace agent, sold annuities and life and has a property and casualty license.

Summer Camp counselor positions still available

What happened to April? It’s hard for me to believe we are at the end of the month and entering May. Before you know it, camp will be upon us. I feel like it was only yesterday we were celebrating the New Year.

Things are chugging along thick and fast here in Comfort!

Recently we hosted around 100 people for the solar eclipse. While the cloud cover prevented us from seeing the totality, it was still great viewing.

On Saturday, April 13, we held the Volunteer Workday. A huge thank you to Candice Roemer, Crockett, Sonar, Coconut, Squints, Nimbus, Anakin, Kenobi, Levi and Jason Centenni, Sheryl and Mia Murray, Ryan and Staycer Broglie, Cecily and John Kelly for showing up on a beautiful day. We got a lot of work accomplished! The Riverside archery and riflery areas look spectacular, the volleyball courts were raked, and we managed to move all the picnic tables and other heavy items to their proper locations for the summer.

It was a very productive and enjoyable day. This event really helps us on our way to preparing the camps for the arrival of the staff in May! So, thanks again to everyone who attended.

CIT workshop

Casper, Webster, Sonar, Squints and I spent quite a few hours working on the summer camp program for our CIT campers. We want to make this program as fun and enjoyable as possible for our future counselors, and I think we did a great job! Hermann Sons Life Camp relies heavily on our campers loving their camp experience so much they want to return as counselors and hopefully in the future become camp directors. We still have counselor positions available. I’d like to point out a few reasons why camp is a great choice for a summer job for 18–21-year-olds.

Working at camp is not just a

fun summer job (and it is fun!). It is a great resume builder providing our staff with valuable skills seldom attained by making coffee and copies in an office internship. Camp counselors make a real difference in the lives of the campers! This job has meaning!

Working as a camp counselor is a real job and provides:

Oral communication skills: You will be required to communicate effectively with campers, fellow staff, supervisors and in many cases – parents!

Critical thinking and problem solving: You will be challenged to think on your feet – from resolving camper disputes, dealing with health and safety issues to facilitating a group of campers in creating a skit!

Interpersonal and leadership skills: You will be required to model professionalism and compassion by managing a group of campers while contributing to the growth and development of each camper…YOU WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE in the LIVES of the campers.

Collaborative skills: You will receive real practical training on how to work on a team and help build and shape the culture and future of Hermann Sons Life.

Creativity: No job requires more creativity than that of a camp counselor. How do you entertain and engage 2-200 campers?

There are also benefits of working at camp. It is a real job.

Leadership - As mentioned before, you will likely be supervising between 7–15 up to 30 others, engaging in decisionmaking, behavior management and living ethics — all necessary leadership skills for today!

Diverse and global experience - Campers and staff come from all around the U.S. and the world with varied cultural perspectives.

Training and certificationsYou will receive training, such as CPR, first aid and activity specialist certifications. Hermann Sons Life provides free American Red Cross Lifeguard certification, archery and challenge course certifications among others.

Room and board are provided if working at a resident camp; that means while working at camp you are not spending money on food (how much will that save parents!?). Hermann Sons Life Camp held the Annual Volunteer Workday on April 13. Volunteers helped clean, rake and move items all in preparation for the upcoming season. Staff will arrive in mid to late May. The helpers were treated to lunch before heading back to work.

College credit or internshipYou may be eligible for college credit in some cases or able to use camp as an independent study, practicum or internship experience. I’ve worked with many staff members who were able to use summer camp as an internship or work study program.

Paycheck - You will typically get paid a salary. While the salary is not what you can make at McDonalds or Burger King, there’s no cost to you during the week. You’re not buying food or gas. You live and work at camp with a new best friend you’ve just met.

Did I mention resume building?

Think of what you can say in your resume. The decision to work as a summer camp staff member says a lot about you. No matter the role you will play in your camp community, ultimately you will want to make sure your resume reflects the experience in such a way that will be meaningful to future employers.

Statewide bowling tourney July 27-28 in Fort Worth

FORT WORTH – The Hermann Sons Life Statewide Bowling Tournament will be held July 27-28 at Cityview Lanes in Fort Worth.

The rules of the tournament are listed below. Use the form to the right to enter a team.

1. At least two members of the team must be a member of Hermann Sons Life as of July 27, 2024. Two non-members per team is allowed.

2. Non USBC bowlers may pay an affiliate membership fee of $20, which will provide high score recognition.

3. Handicap is 90% from 220 for each bowler per event.

4. IMPORTANT READ CAREFULLY: It shall be each bowler’s responsibility to determine that the submitted average is correct. Failure to use the correct average shall disqualify the score if submitted average is lower than correct average thereby resulting in a lower classification or more handicap. Prize winnings shall be based on the submitted average if it is higher than the correct average. However, corrections in averages may be permitted up to the completion of the first game of a series. Every entry blank must have each bowler’s highest USBC Certified 20222023 book average based on 21 games or more at the time of participation in the tournament. Bowlers not having a 2021-2022 average must use highest 20222023 book average based on 21 games. Bowlers not having 2022-2023 or 2023-2024 book average must use 2024 Summer average of nine games or more in one league at time of participation.

Bowlers not having any of the above averages, but who bowled 9 games in the 2023 tournament may use the average for those 9 games in the 2024 tournament. USBC Rule 319(A-2) is waived (10 or more pins increase in average). A: 2022-2023 yearbook average.

Hermann Sons Life Comfort Campership Application for Summer 2024

This application is for children who need financial assistance in order to attend Hermann Sons Life Camp The application can be completed by a parent/guardian, but the short answer portion should be completed by the child

The Hermann Sons Life Comfort camperships pay half of the camper fee ($187 50 is half of the fee for a full week, $110 is half of the fee for the mini-camp session) Five camperships are awarded to Comfort Lodge members in good standing and one campership is awarded to any Hermann Sons Life member in good standing The camperships being awarded to Comfort Lodge members are awarded on a first-requests-received basis and there is no application deadline.

The campership awarded to any member is based on application evaluations by the Campership Committee and the application postmark deadline is May 10th. Applicants will be notified as to whether or not they wer e selected by May 17th

Campers who receive camperships from Comfort Lodge MUST still complete the online application and pay in full, but Comfort lodge will send a check for half of the camper fee to the address listed on the receipt for payment once attendance is confirmed for their selected week through the Home Office Checks will be mailed on Monday of the week your camper attends Camp

Comfort to award camperships

COMFORT – Comfort Lodge will meet Monday, May 13, at Hermann Sons Life Camp Hilltop. The social will begin at 5 p.m. and pizza will be served at 6 p.m. Eligible junior members are encouraged to attend for a chance to win a full campership for a one-week session for summer 2024.

The lodge will give a total of

two full camperships away at the meeting. A parent/guardian must be in attendance with the eligible camper.

The lodge will also give five half-camperships in addition to one non-Comfort Lodge member half campership.  The application can be found to the left.

Howie’s Happenings

Despite the chaos, pups bring laughter and love

Howie, Beau and our granddog, Tig, have been keeping us on our toes with their antics lately. Howie and Beau, the dynamic duo, have been on a chewing spree with Beau taking the lead in causing mischief. He’s managed to chew up everything from our tv remote to my eyeglasses (thank goodness for spares!) and even pooped out a sock! I am pretty sure Beau is on a mission to test the limits of our patience one household item at a time.

Meanwhile, Tig, always the explorer, has been busy digging under the shed and scaling a pile of

wood in the backyard. What she’s searching for? Only Tig knows, but we suspect she is on the hunt for a lizard or some other critter only she can smell.

Despite the chaos they bring, we can’t help but love our little mischief makers! They always have a way of making every day better with their boundless energy and enthusiasm…although boundless energy might be a stretch to say about Howie. He is a total love bug and an 80-plus pound lapdog but expending too much energy really isn’t his thing.

They’re always so happy to see us and the laughter and love they bring are worth the extra household items we sacrifice here and there.

Former Houston sales agent passes

Jacqueline “Jackie” C. Bushman was born Dec. 22, 1935, and passed away on March 8, 2024. Jackie was a former Hermann Sons Life sales agent. She was a member of Houston Lodge for more than 75 years and served as financial secretary.

Jackie lived her entire life in Houston. She was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she was involved in the Ladies Circle, Women’s Club group and the 39 Club for years.

Jackie was an avid bowler throughout her life. She bowled in numerous tournaments, including the Hermann Sons Life State Bowling Tournament as well as the National Women’s Tournament in which she received an award for bowling more than 25 years.

She loved her bowling trips. She also enjoyed reading, especially crime novels. In her later years, she moved into Tarrytowne Estates where she made numerous friends and loved playing cards and dominos with them.

Jackie was preceded in death by her mother, Faye Adeline

Clay and father, James A Clay. She is survived by her daughters, Patricia F. Bushman and Kathy B. Anderson Gallegos and husband, Steve Gallegos; her grandchildren, Jennifer Cool and husband, Tristan, Hunter Anderson, Michael Alcarez and wife Anna and Lorne Naff; greatgranddaughters, Marcelyne Anita Faye Cool, Rebeka Joachim and husband Jeremy and greatgreat grandson, Julian Ambrose Joachim.

Services were held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Houston on March 15. Internment followed at Rosewood Memorial Park in Humble. Kypfer-Salge presents donation to Advocacy Center

NEW BRAUNFELS – KypferSalge Lodge will meet on Friday, May 3, at 7 p.m. Kery and Kathy Noble will provide a ham dinner in honor of their anniversary. Members are asked to bring a side and/or dessert.

The lodge presented a $600 check to the Comal County Children’s Advocacy Center. The lodge raised the funds at its Valentine Bunco party held in February.

Congratulations to Oran Koepp and Kathy Noble who have each received their 75-year membership pins.

The lodge will hold a Bunco Night for members and their families every third Friday of the month beginning Friday, May 17. Doors will open at 6 p.m. and games will be from 7-9 p.m. A $5 entry fee will be charged per person. Bring a snack to share and drinks of your choice.

The lodge will donate 10% of the entry fee to a non-profit to be chosen at the next monthly meeting. The rest of the funds will be used for prizes. For table set-up, reservations are required. Please call Molly Koepp at 830-624-9891.

Bernardo provides camp fee assistance

CAT SPRING – Bernardo Lodge has seven junior members attending Hermann Sons Life Camp this year. Each camper will receive $150 from the lodge to help with expenses.

At the March meeting, Agent Terrel Maertz reported camp will start up in June and eligible members should receive information by mail. An email will be sent to returning camp-

ers. Annuities are paying 5%.

The lodge received a letter from long-time member Emily Frank advising of her resignation as a member of the Finance Committee. The lodge thanks Emily for her years of dedication to the lodge, she will be missed.

LAKEHILLS – Bandera County Lodge President Gary Reile and the other lodge officers are asking for help. Adult members are needed to step up and take charge of the lodge. Lodge leaders are more than 70 years of age and are requesting some younger members to take the helm. It does not take a lot of time.

There are four to six meetings and usually two activities a year. Meetings last one to two hours. Extra time might be required depending on any additional activities.

Without help from other members by the end of 2024, the Home Office will be asked to merge Bandera County Lodge

HELOTES – Helotes Lodge will meet Tuesday, June 11, at Braun Hall at 7 p.m. A meal hosted by President Rebecca Henley will be provided.

Dallas plans May luncheon

DALLAS – Dallas Lodge will meet May 19 at 1 p.m. for a members’ appreciation luncheon and pin ceremony at EL Fenix Restaurant. Guests are welcome to attend.

The lodge’s next gathering is July 28 at 1 p.m. at the hall. Officers encourage members to attend. Food and drinks will be served.

The annual Join Hands Days is on May 4. Lodge members will join with members of Columbia Lodge to clean inside and outside the hall. The date and time are pending.

At the March meeting, it was reported the lodge will award scholarships to members, graduating high school. There are five who may be eligible this year.

dance prize.   A general meeting of the Dallas Hermann Sons Home Association, Inc. was held March 1 at the hall for Dallas and Columbia members. Members were also able to attend by Zoom. Only  members in good standing could vote. All proposed bylaws and amendments passed and will be effective in 2025.

The Home Association directors thank all who participated. It was the most attended meeting in several years. Thanks also to the board members who helped make it happen. Spring Branch will donate baby items to Provisions Food Pantry

Marion plans games for next meeting

MARION – Marion Lodge will hold the summer meeting at the Marion Lutheran Church P.J. Hall on June 20 at 6:30 p.m.

The lodge will provide food and drink and members are asked to bring a dessert of choice. Homemade ice cream, yard games, organized games and bingo are on the agenda for the evening. Members are encouraged to bring the whole family for a fun time!

Officers were installed at the March meeting held at the Marion Public Library. The officers are President Morris Vader, Vice President Keith Hoegenhauer, Secretary Marla Cockerham and Treasurer Kim Seibert.

Discussions were held on contacting all the graduating seniors, campers and updating addresses. Social media and news articles were discussed to help promote membership

Siemering participates in Trail Association reenactment

SAN ANTONIO – Siemering Lodge, with roots tracing back to its chartering in 1891, proudly participated in the Old Spanish Trail Association Centennial Reenactment Celebration. The event, commemorating the Zero-Milestone dedication, provided a unique opportunity for the lodge to showcase its rich heritage and engage with likeminded organizations.

Led by President Chris Naughton and Vice-President Mark Lee, the lodge’s delegation, including Randy Fleisher and Corresponding Secretary Christian Lee, made a memorable impression at the celebration. Adorned in period attire and displaying an Imperial German Pickelhaube, the lodge members paid homage to their historic roots.

Prinz Solms Lodge to award scholarship

BULVERDE – Prinz Solms Lodge will meet Sunday, June 9, at 5 p.m. at the Bulverde Community Center. The lodge will not meet in May on Mother’s Day, so all mothers can spend time with family.

Columbia Lodge plans pin ceremony for May 5

DALLAS – Columbia Lodge will meet Sunday, May 5, at 3 p.m. at the Hall. A membership pin ceremony will be held.

The Spring Fling held on April 6 was another energetic and fun event. Members hosted more than 150 swing dancers for the workshops and evening dinner/dance to the tunes of Savoy Swing. The hall was adorned by AnnMarie Wilson’s gorgeous decorations. Dinner was extra special as Chef Stanley Whitehead made a large pot of homemade spaghetti sauce for the pasta.

For Join Hands Day, members are proud to be volunteering

with The Resource Center’s Youth First youth group. Together, with the help of the City of Dallas, the lodge will be part of “BIG Letter Painting,” an outdoor mural project. Volunteers are welcome to meet on Saturday, May 11, at 5750 Cedar Springs Road in Dallas from 1-3 p.m. to paint.

Kirby Lodge will donate to Boysville fundraiser

KIRBY – Kirby Lodge will meet May 6 at 7 p.m. In observance of Mother’s Day, the men will prepare sausage. Members are asked to bring sides and desserts.

Everyone age 55 and older are invited to Senior Bingo at the lodge on Sunday, June 2, at 1 p.m.

The lodge will celebrate Father’s Day at the June 3 meeting at 7 p.m. The ladies will prepare the main dish that will be decided on at the May meeting. Members will provide sides and desserts.

Hochheim-Prairie meets June 2

YOAKUM – Hochheim-Prairie Lodge will meet on Sunday, June 2, at Turner Hall at 5 p.m. There will not be a meeting held in May.

In observance of Join Hands Day in May, the lodge will donate $100 to the local EMS and first responders.

Houston plans food bank project

HOUSTON – Houston Lodge will meet Monday, May 13, at Don Jose Mexican Restaurant, 5305 Antoine Drive. The social hour begins at 6 p.m. and dinner will be ordered at 6:15 p.m.

The lodge met at Don Jose’s in March with 16 members and four guests present. Visitors were Zoey and Zane Coleman and Baileigh and Skyler Patterson.

A moment of silence was held for beloved member Jackie Bushman who passed on March 8 at Methodist West Hospital.

Jackie, a member for more than 75 years, held the position of financial secretary and was a past agent. The lodge will send flowers in her honor.

Agent Gary Falkenberg reported as of March 1, the Flexible Premium Deferred Annuity now requires a minimum initial deposit of $2,500. The Final Expense policy has a $5,000 minimum to $50,000 for ages 50 to 90.

Cibolo Lodge to celebrate Mother’s Day

CIBOLO – Cibolo Lodge will hold the next regular meeting Thursday, May 4, at Christ the King Lutheran Church at 7 p.m. and will celebrate Mother’s Day.

Hochheim-Prairie Lodge members helped Joyce Word celebrate her 90th birthday at the April meeting.

Sherry Rakowitz, Dena Warneke and Cory Rakowitz will provide the main dish of lasagna. Members are asked to bring sides, and the men are responsible for the desserts. Bunco will be played after the meeting.

BRENHAM – Brenham Lodge will meet on Friday, May 10. Doors open at 5 p.m. The meal is at 6:30 followed by the meeting at 7:15 at the hall. Chicken spaghetti will be served, and members are asked to bring desserts.

Cat Spring plans fried chicken meal for June

CAT SPRING – Cat Spring Lodge will meet on Thursday, June 13.

Da Costa plans summer family social for Aug. 24

DA COSTA – Da Costa Lodge will meet May 14 at 6 p.m. at the lodge.

The lodge needs more member involvement to keep it successful and going and growing. Meetings are held bi-monthly, the second Tuesday of every other month at 6 p.m. at the lodge. Upcoming meeting dates are July 9, Sept. 10 and Nov. 12.

It’s almost time for the Annual Summer Family Social to be held Aug. 24. There will be a silent auction to benefit the High School Senior Scholarship Fund. Donations are needed.

A membership pin presentation will also be held. Members who have received or will be receiving 50-, 60- or 70+ year membership pins in 2024 are asked to attend and bring their pins to the social to be recognized.

The event will also include a meal and a dance featuring the

The Annual Spring Fling was held in March with 28 children, lodge members and community members in attendance to enjoy the festivities. Activities included a bean bag toss, egg on a spoon race, musical chairs, guessing games, coloring, pictures with the Easter Bunny and an egg hunt.

Westwood 4-H members helped with the festivities and held a pulled pork sandwich and bake sale fund-raiser. Six of the Westwood 4-H club members are also DaCosta Lodge members. It

San Marcos Lodge to meet at Olive Garden in May

SAN MARCOS – San Marcos Lodge will meet Monday, May 6, at 11:15 a.m. at Olive Garden.

At the April meeting, the annual memorial service for members who died in 2023 was held. The honored members were Sammie Williamson, age 97, Elizabeth Beecroft, 91, Esther Schmidt, 97, Larry Moreau, 78, Kay Tilton, 87, and Joy Schulze, 59. As each deceased member’s name was called, the family members of Esther Schmidt, Kay Tilton and Joy Schulze came forward and lit a candle in honor of their family member.

Mission-Alamo to celebrate moms, dads May 19

SAN ANTONIO – Mission-Alamo Lodge will celebrate Mother’s Day and Father’s Day at the May 19 meeting. A meeting will not be held in June.

The lodge welcomes new members, Sophia Victoria Salazar, Carter Ashlyn McMain and Mckenna Rae Dunaway.

Christmas in July will be celebrated at the July 21 meeting. Members are asked to wear red, white and blue.

The family picnic will be held at the Hilltop Camp site on Aug. 18 from noon to 4 p.m.

In March, members celebrated St. Patrick’s Day at La Fonda Restaurant with some good food and members dressed in green.

Boerne welcomes two new members

BOERNE – Boerne Lodge will meet Friday, May 3, at The Center at Kronkosky Place.

The lodge welcomes new members, Darrell Prince and Ellie Sandoval.

At the April meeting, Ana Vasquez read the Hermann Sons Life newspaper article regarding the organization of the Texas Wildfire Relief Fund. She said the Home Office is requesting monetary donations from members and lodges.

For the lodge’s Join Hands Day project, it was decided to make a $500 donation to the Hermann Sons Life Texas Wildfire Relief Fund. The lodge will also make a $500 donation to St. John’s Lutheran Church in Boerne that is also collecting donations and supplies for the affected areas in the Texas Panhandle.

Greater Texas Lodge to award scholarships

SAN ANTONIO – The Greater Texas Lodge will meet on June 19 at 6:30 p.m. via Zoom. A link will be emailed and posted on the lodge’s Facebook page closer to the meeting date.

At the April meeting, members voted to hold meetings the third Wednesday of every other month at 6:30 p.m.

The lodge has initiated a scholarship program for 2024 graduating high school se -

niors who are members of the Greater Texas Lodge. To qualify, applicants must be a member in good standing and must submit a one-page essay on what Hermann Sons Life has meant to them. OLD GLORY – Old Glory Lodge will meet Sunday, May 5, at 4 p.m. Hamburgers will be served, and members are asked to bring desserts.

There were 17 in attendance at the April meeting. The new doors the trustees had put in sure give the building a great, polished look.
