CEO introduces new Vice President of Sales SAN ANTONIO – Robin Czarnek is the new Vice President of Sales for Hermann Sons Life.

Robin was appointed to the position by President and CEO Eugene Zollinger in late April.

Previously she was associated with Premium Group Insurance where she was a business development manager.

Her role was to recruit, manage and train agents nationally. Prior to that, she was an insurance agency owner for 20-plus years.

She holds licenses for life and health insurance and property and casualty general lines. Robin held her 6 and 63 securities licenses for nearly 20 years during her tenure as an Allstate agency owner.

Robin is not new to Hermann Sons Life. She was a member as a child and took part in the Dance Program and attended Hermann Sons Life Camp.

“It is my privilege to be a part of such an amazing organization that has been a part of my life since early childhood,”

Robin said. “My childhood has so many fond memories of Camp, dance classes and recitals.

“We strengthen community is not just a slogan, but a mission that is taken to heart,” she added. “I will do everything I can to live up to all those who have paved the way and built such an incredible legacy. I am looking forward to digging in and doing my part to keep the Hermann Sons Life tradition alive and thriving.”

“I am excited to welcome Robin to our leadership team,” Eugene said. “She brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the table and I am confident in her ability to work with our Sales Team leaders and agents to increase sales. I hope everyone will join me in welcoming her and giving her our full support.”

Robin and husband David have been married for 30 years. They live in New Braunfels. They have two grown children. Haley is 26 and Garrett is 20.

Robin Czarnek is the new Vice President of Sales for Hermann Sons Life.

She was appointed to the position in April by President and CEO Eugene Zollinger. As Vice President of Sales, Robin will lead the Sales Team including the office staff, regional sales managers and field agents.

President's Message

The future is looking bright

By Eugene Zollinger President and CEO Slowly but surely we are breaking free from the COVID-19 cocoon that we have been living in for the past 18 months . I am excitedly optimistic about what this means for Hermann Sons Life . I want to share with you some of the reasons why I am feeling this way .

We have opened the Home Office to visitors once again . After keeping the front door locked for more than a year, it is nice to have visitors in the building . After all, this building belongs to all of you – our members – and you are welcome here anytime .

It’s good to see that more and more lodges are returning to a regular meeting schedule and will be meeting in person once again .

Zoom meetings work when face-to-face meetings are not possible but they can’t replace the fellowship that is shared when we are all in the same room .

Behind the Scenes I hope that most of you have had a chance to view the Behind the Scenes documentary and company profile that were released in April . If you haven’t, I hope you will go to our Official YouTube Channel and watch .

I am so excited about the way these documentaries turned out . They have exceeded my expectations and I couldn’t be happier about the way they tell our story .

I know many of you are passionately loyal to Hermann Sons Life and I want you to know that I feel that emotion when I visit with you .

I feel the same way and I believe this project will help us tell the world just what an amazing organization we are .

The idea, of course, is that the more people who know and understand what we are all about, the more people will want to join us as members .

There is strength in numbers, and the more members we have, the more services and benefits we can offer to members and the more we can serve our greater communities .

New Vice President Another reason for my enthusiasm is our new Vice President of Sales . I appointed Robin Czarnek to the position in late April . You can read more about her background on Page 1 .

She is a go-getter and has hit the ground running . Right now she is focused on agent recruitment and educating people about the importance of planning for the future .

Robin and I have known each other for several years . I was happy to be able to offer her the position and even happier when she accepted .

The first quarter of 2021 saw a marked increase in sales and I look forward to even greater things from our Sales Team with her as its new leader .

Busy summer I don’t have to remind you that all of our summer activities were cancelled last year because of the pandemic .

This year, I am happy to report, everything will run on schedule .

That means we will be going to Schlitterbahn on June 26 . Don’t forget to order your tickets before June 11 .

And that means our children will be headed to Comfort for a week of fun at Camp . Executive Camp Director Ian Brassett has been working for a full year now to create the very best camping experience possible for our junior members .

If you haven’t registered your child, please do so as soon as possible . Weeks are filling fast .

As if all of this wasn’t enough to brighten the future, the Home Office has installed new financial software and is moving toward implementation of a new policy administration system sometime in the near future . These changes will bring with them the ability to serve our members in the most modern and efficient ways possible .

So, you see, there are many reasons to be optimistic about the future of Hermann Sons Life . We couldn’t do any of this, of course, without our loyal members . We ask you to continue to support your lodge and your community .

Together we can do great things .

A busy summer awaits

By CECILY KELLY Vice President of Member Benefits It’s that time of year. The students are anxious to get out of school and parents are planning their summer.

Have you enrolled your camper? Opening day of Camp is June 13 and I know Ian and his staff are working hard to make this summer fun for all campers.

Dance class registration will open up this month. Brochures will be mailed to all eligible junior members not in the Class Juggler system. All parents who have dancers returning will have the brochure e-mailed and are encouraged to register early!

If you have family or friends who might be interested in becoming a member, we encourage you to refer them to your local agent or have them call the Sales Department for more information.

We are always interested in opening new classes or reopening classes that were closed for one reason or another. If you don’t have a school of dance in your area but think you may have dancers interested, give Tammi Sutherland a call or email her and we can discuss your op-

tions.

June also brings Family Fun Day at Schlitterbahn. Tickets are on sale through our online store. We would love to see familiar and new faces join us this year!

Ticket sales will end June 11.

Lodges are starting to meet as COVID restrictions have been lifted. We encourage members who feel comfortable attending meetings to reach out and inquire as to when your lodge meetings will be. There is also a list in the paper of lodges that have made us aware of their plans.

Members are the backbone of our organization and getting together in the past year has been difficult, if not impossible.

Members miss the fellowship with their Hermann Sons Life family and we miss hearing about each lodge’s plans and what they are doing to make their community a better place.

We thank those lodges that have been able to make donations or volunteer in their local community to help with this pandemic. Herman Sons Life members are at their best when they are supporting their communities!

Dance registration set to begin SAN ANTONIO – Registration for the 2020-2021 dance year will begin in June.

Junior members ages 3 to 17 who live in the area around one of the Schools of Dance will be receiving their registration information soon. Those who have never enrolled will receive their brochure in the mail. Those who took part in the past and have a Class Juggler account will receive their instructions by email.

The brochure provides detailed instructions on how to access the registration process through Class Juggler.

Parents should note that if they created an account to register a camper or dancer, they will not have to create a new account to register a dancer. They will have to use the dance code provided by e-mail.

The brochure includes a list of the Schools of Dance and there is a list available on the website.

Any junior member who meets the age requirement and whose life insurance premiums and dues are current can register for an hour of instruction in any school of their choosing.

The schools are under the direction of the instructor(s) and two parent liaisons. Other parents can become involved by volunteering in various capacities including serving as class monitors, working on fund-raising and helping with the recital.

Each school collects a registration fee that is determined by the individual schools and is used to offset the cost of the recital and other expenses. The Home Office collects a $50 assessment fee to help cover the cost of the instructors and other expenses.

Classes will start after Sept. 1 and registration will remain open until Oct. 1.

Events EVERY THURSDAY – It’s Game Night every Thursday night at Hochheim-Prairie Lodge-Turner Hall in Yoakum. Games start at 7 p.m. Everyone is welcome.

EVERY WEDNESDAY – The San Antonio Home Association will host swing dance lessons every Wednesday from 7-8 p.m. in the Ballroom of the San Antonio Home Association Building, 525 S. St. Mary’s St., San Antonio. There is a class for beginners and a class for intermediate dancers. A swing dance follows the lessons from 8-10 p.m.

13 – A Sports Collectibles Show will be held from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. in the Rathskeller of the San Antonio Home Association Building, 525 S. St. Mary’s St. Entry fee is $2 per person. You can buy, sell or trade your sports cards and other collectibles.

Agents earn first quarter bonuses SAN ANTONIO – Nine members of the Sales Team have been recognized for their production during the first quarter of 2021.

Three of them were recognized for writing the most life insurance applications.

Bandera County Lodge members Gary and Kathleen Reile and Pam and Allan Biering dropped off snacks and bingo prizes for the residents of Cedar Creek Nursing Home in Bandera. Because of COVID-19 restrictions, the lodge could not hold its usual games party for the residents.

San Marcos Lodge packed bags full of arts and crafts supplies and donated them to the Hays Caldwell Women’s Center. The volunteers included Janet Magin, Irene Bierstedt, Agnes Dreibrodt, Janice Kuhen, Lilliam Cargil, Billy and Mary Lou Preuss and Janet Boehringer. President Agnes Dreibrodt delivered the bags.

Kirby Kirby Lodge joined hands with the local Girl Scouts to gather donations for Schertz Animal Rescue. The organization handles adoptions and fostering of animals and is a no-kill shelter. Angela Netherton and daughter Allison delivered the donations.

Giddings Giddings Lodge made a $500 donation to the Faith Lutheran School Scholarship Fund. The lodge usually hosts a games party for the residents but because of COVID-19 restrictions could not this year.

Staff busy preparing for Camp season opening

By IAN BRASSETT Executive Camp Director I’m sitting here in my office at 6:30 p.m. on May 17 and I could not be happier.

Deliveries are arriving daily with the many supplies needed to run a summer camp. Some are fun supplies like new helmets, ropes and belay cables for the adventure activities course.

Some I hope we never use, like the dispensary supplies for the clinic.

On May 1, I spent the day with Pamela Nentwich, Jessica James, Keaton Trainer and John Sorbel, the directors and assistant directors of Riverside and Hilltop, respectively. We had a wonderful meeting to discuss our plans for Staff Development.

On May 8, Jessica James (Webster) led a training course for our wonderful new (to the role)

Program Assistants, Smudge and Monk. It will be their job to ensure that all the campers get the activities they want.

On May 15, I conducted another parent Zoom question and answer session for our parents and campers.

While the turnout was a little lower than we would have liked, the session was recorded and is available on the Official Hermann Sons Life YouTube Channel.

This upcoming weekend (May 22-23) our Senior Staff for both camps will be gathering for a weekend-long training session and planning for the Staff Development that begins June 4.

As I mentioned, I could not be happier. We have been working hard for this upcoming summer and thoroughly look forward to seeing y’all soon. Both the camps are looking great! The

dorms have been scrubbed. The activity sites are set up and we are excited to share this summer with everyone.

A few reminders: THE HERMANN SONS LIFE APP The App is where you will find one-touch access to email the directors of the Camp.

This is also the way to get an email to your child(ren).

The App is where we will be posting the photos taken during the week.

You’ll be able to see daily updates and photos of campers.

While we cannot guarantee your child will be in the photos (some hide from the camera), we’ll do our best.

The code for downloading the App was included in the registration brochure and the emails parents have been receiving.

Hermann Sons Life members are invited to Family Fun Day at Schlitterbahn in New Braunfels Saturday, June 26, 2021

Members of the Future Club - Shining Stars will be admitted free of charge and receive a free drink cup. Everyone else will pay a reduced price. Tickets must be paid in advance through the Hermann Sons Life website – hermannsonslife.org. Click on “Store.” Tickets for all ages will be $49.

Children 2 and under can attend free of charge. Members can also purchase a drink cup for a reduced price of $13. The cup must also be purchased in advance. The cup can be refilled all day anywhere in the park. All paid members of the Hermann Sons Life group will be treated to breakfast in the designated area of Schlitterbahn East (Surfenburg).

PAPERWORK Hopefully by now you have completed your Dorm Assignment and Check-Out Form along with your Activity Selection Form. These are very important forms. We cannot release a child at the end of Camp without knowing who is permitted to pick them up!

The Health History Form is a mandatory form and we cannot bunk any camper without this form being on file. Please mail this form to us at least two weeks prior to your child’s arrival.

There are also two new forms this summer, the COVID-19 Waiver and the Medication Form. Please bring these forms with you for our streamlined check-in.

Remember, this summer we will be asking our parents to stay inside their car during the

check-in procedure.

To make this check-in procedure as painless as possible we will be staggering dorm arrival times. Your child’s dorm and arrival time will be emailed to you two weeks prior to their arrival (See Health History Form notes above.)

STILL NEED A COOK We’re looking for a COOK for all or part of the summer to help with the afternoon shift to prepare the dinner meal.

This is a paid position and includes room and board and other cool benefits.

COMFORT – The four recipients of the Hermann Sons Life Retirement Home Scholarship for 2021 have been named.

They are Shea Dodson of Stockdale, daughter of Barbara Dodson and a member of Stockdale Lodge; Amy DeWalt of Helotes, daughter of Scott and Lori DeWalt and a member of Bexar Lodge; Samuel Feeney of Flower Mound, son of Mark and Lucille Feeney and a member of Dallas Lodge; and Erica Otto of Schulenburg, daughter of Keith and Stacy Otto and a member of Flatonia Lodge.

Each student will receive $1,500 to further their education.

To be eligible, students must be a member in good standing, complete an application and write an essay titled “What Hermann Sons Life Means to Me.” A total of 40 applications were received.

Shea Dodson is a graduate of Stockdale High School. She attended dance classes for two years and was a camper for four years.

She plans to attend Texas A&M in College Station where she will study business.

In her essay, Shea wrote, “The most enjoyable experience I had with Hermann Sons Life was Camp. Some of my most fond memories are from that time.

It was such a great atmosphere and I met so many new people. Being there made me come out of my shell and try new things. I also loved all of my counselors and the songs we would sing in the courtyard.

“All of it was so fun that when it was time to go home, I was already counting down until the next summer. I even still have friends today that I met there years ago. Hermann Sons Life was a huge part of my childhood and I am so thankful for the experiences and opportunities it has given me.”

Amy DeWalt is a graduate of Brandeis High School in Helotes. She attended Camp for five years.

She plans to attend Midwestern State University where she will study early childhood education.

In her essay, Amy wrote, “Hermann Sons Life gave me many gifts as a young girl that have translated to my adult life.

I feel that I was able to grow as a person in so many ways during my experiences in the Hermann Sons Life community.

“I so loved being a camper. At summer camp, the counselors taught me to believe in myself during what I know now were my formative years. I learned how to cooperate and share with my bunkmates, I learned to follow a schedule and how to manage on my own, away from my family for the first time. We learned respect for ourselves and others.

“As a high school senior and an athlete, I have seen and continue to see my fellow campers, now friends, over the years as we compete against one other in sports activities. I always bear in mind the same friendly manner of competition that I learned so long ago as a Hermann Sons Life camper.

Four graduates awarded Retirement Home Scholarship “Hermann Sons taught me to believe in myself, in integrity, and in friendly competition. It has enabled me to formulate lifelong friendships and interests that were introduced to me as a young girl. It is imperative that the community has an organization that takes special interest in children and gives them, like it did me, the opportunity to grow outside of their family and become successful thriving individuals.”

Samuel Feeney is a graduate of Flower Mound High School. He attended Camp for three years.

He plans to attend the University of Texas at Dallas and study neuroscience.

In his essay, Samuel wrote, “Hermann Sons Life has had a big impact on my childhood as it has some of my most cherished memories. I went to the summer camp for three years with my cousin and would always look forward to attending Camp each year. Camp helped me learn how to talk to new people, create a strong relationship with my cousins and create lasting memories I will always cherish. Hermann Sons Life has given me valuable memories that I will hold close to my heart for the rest of my life.”

Erica Otto is a graduate of Schulenburg High School. She took dance classes for three years and attended Camp for four years.

She plans to attend Southwestern University where she will study kinesiology.

Her goal is to attend medical school where she will specialize in orthopedics.

In her essay, Erica wrote, “I started participating in Hermann Sons Life Dance when I was 5 years old. I met some of my best friends through the weekly dance classes and now we reminisce on cute pictures of us in our dance costumes.

Without the teamwork foundation laid out at dance, I would not have become as diligent in working with others on my school teams.

“I was even more excited to attend Hermann Sons Life Camp where I practiced organization, responsibility and met new friends. This independence and responsibility got me ready for high school and eventually college as I stay organized and balance my activities.

Therefore, Hermann Sons Life Camp played a big part in getting me ready for the next chapter of my life. More importantly, I learned how to respect differences in people from various places. All in all, the time I spent at Camp turned me into a more mature person.

“I have been successful in school, sports and the community thanks to the character traits that I developed from the girls, dance teachers, counselors and Home residents, I am very appreciative of my parents for sending me to dance class and Camp. Overall, the memories I made paired with the skills I learned through Hermann Sons Life are worth more than anything.”

Camp awards scholarships to three graduates COMFORT – The three recipients of the Hermann Sons Youth Camp-Shannon Leigh Gaffney Scholarship for 2021 have been named. Each will receive $1,000.

They are Brooke Henke of Floresville, daughter of Natalie and Douglas Henke, and a member of Poth Lodge; Sydney Merecka of Pleasanton, daughter of Frances and Donal Merecka and a member of Lockhart Lodge; and Emily Reinhard of La Vernia, daughter of Scott and Susan Reinhard and a member of Louise Schuetze Lodge.

To be eligible, students must be a member in good standing, complete an application and write an essay titled “How being a Hermann Sons Life camper shaped the person I am today.”

Brooke Henke is a graduate of Floresville High School.

She plans to study nursing at San Antonio College.

She attended Camp for five years. At Floresville High School, she was captain of the varsity golf team. She was a member of the National Honor Society, Link Crew and Future Farmers of America. She is also enrolled in the Health Professions Academy through the Alamo District. She has volunteered in many capacities in the community.

In her essay, Brooke wrote, “Camp is a place to experience new adventures, meet new people, and get out of your comfort zone. Being a camper through Hermann Sons Life has taught me so many life skills that are of essence in today’s society.

“Although choosing what activities to participate in at youth camp does not seem like an important decision, it prepared me for some of the challenging choices I have and will encounter, such as choosing to pursue my nursing degree early instead of participating in basketball my last two years of high school. Every day I am grateful I chose to start my nursing degree early.

“Being able to interact and connect with strangers is never ending, and Camp has taught me how to do this. Explor-

ing multiple experiences makes relating to other individuals easier.

“Between prioritizing, getting out of my own comfort zone, exploring new experiences and several other life skills, Hermann Sons Life Camp has impacted my life significantly by shaping me into the compassionate and self-sufficient person I am today.”

Sydney Merecka is a graduate of Pleasanton High School.

She plans to attend Texas A&M University where she will study economics. Her goal is to become an accountant.

She attended Camp for five years. At Pleasanton High School, she was a member of the National Honor Society where she served as treasurer and was a member of the varsity soccer team. She also serves as an assistant coach for Lone Star Athletics and a soccer referee.

In her essay, Sydney wrote, “If I am being 100 percent honest, when my mom first asked me if I wanted to go to Hermann Sons Life Camp in third grade, I was definitely not thrilled. I reluctantly said that I would give it a shot. Little did I know that would be some of the best times of my life and that I would create memories that I would never forget and always cherish.

“Some of the memories that I made were with people whose names I have long forgotten, but I still remember their faces and the amazing memories that we made. After my first year, I never worried about if I had friends in my activities because I knew that no matter who I was with, I was going to have an amazing time and for that I have to thank the outstanding counselors that made the experience what it was, which was truly amazing.

“Looking back, it seems silly to me that I ever doubted loving Hermann Sons Life Camp because during all five summers that I attended, a smile never left my face. Hermann Sons Life Camp not only taught me how to be independent, but it also taught me to strive to be a leader in

everything I do.”

Emily Reinhard is a graduate of La Vernia High School.

She attended Camp for four years and was a counselor-intraining for two years.

She plans to attend Schreiner University where she will study nursing. Her career goal is to become a physician’s assistant.

At La Vernia High School, she excelled at volleyball and was named to the district and all-state teams. She also excelled academically. She was a member of the Art Club where she served as president, the National Honor Society and the Health Occupations Students of America. She was also active in her church and volunteered in various capacities in the community.

In her essay, Emily wrote, “Hermann Sons Life Camp was the highlight of my summers, as it was a blast to attend and taught me so many different life skills that I still use today.

Hermann Sons Life Camp helped shape who I am today by teaching me to just have fun and let loose sometimes. It led me to become more responsible at an early age since you were on your own for a week without your parents. As a camper, I learned that I was responsible for my own actions and had to become self-reliant.

“Nothing compares to the skills I learned while I was a counselor-in-training. My responsibilities increased compared to the days when I was just a camper. As a CIT, you had to be like an older sister to the kids, taking care of them and giving them advice. You have to decide when a kid does something wrong, what the best thing is to do with the camper. You have to weigh the activity with the consequence.

“All of these experiences have led me to have better decision-making skills in my own life. Hermann Sons Life Camp, along with my parents and schooling, have shaped me into who I am today.”

She is employed with University Hospital in the transplant ICU. Madison attended Camp all five years, went back as a counselor-in-training for two years and worked as a Camp counselor for one.

She was in Dance from the ages of 5 to 13 and was a Polkateer her last years of dance.

Allison Irene Netherton is a graduate of Veterans Memorial High School with an endorsement plan in business and multidisciplinary studies. She is a fifth-generation member of Kirby Lodge. She was stage manager for the theatre production team, UIL awards winner and was inducted into the Thespian Society. She plans to pursue a degree in biology-zoology. She has been accepted to Northeast Lakeview amd Texas A&M at San Antonio. Allison is the daughter of Matthew and Angela Netherton. Angela is an agent and Youth Coordinator for Kirby Lodge. Emily Saathoff graduated magna cum laude from the University of South Carolina with a bachelor of science in public health and a minor in psychology as well as leadership distinction in both research and global learning.

She was a five-year camper and counselor known as “Bounce.” As a Rotary Global Grant recipient, Emily will be studying maternal health and pursuing a master’s in public health at the University of Ghana in Accra, Ghana. Cibolo Lodge will hold next meeting June 3 CIBOLO – Cibolo Lodge has resumed meetings after more than a year. Meetings are held at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 1129 Pat Booker Rd., Universal City, on the first Thursday of the month.

The next regular meeting will be June 3 at 7 p.m. with the main course being lean brisket from Bill Miller Bar-b-que. Everyone is asked to bring their favorite side dish and/or dessert.

At the May meeting, a new attendance drawing was begun.

One adult present will receive a $25 prize and one junior member will receive a $5 prize.

The main meal was buildyour-own sub sandwiches. The winner of the best side was the cheese dip brought by Ruth Schumann and the best dessert was the peanut brittle by Rodney Krebs.

New junior members welcomed were Calista Rene Soliz, Alaina Ray Soliz, Jackson Mudge and Tanner Mudge. In the next article, all of the new members since March 2020 will be listed along with the members who have passed away in the last year.

A moment of silence was observed in memory of Mary Ann Gray and others who have passed.

The Scholarship Committee presented Bret Gray with a $500 Cibolo Lodge scholarship and a $500 scholarship from the Brenda Fey Memorial Scholarship Fund. Bret will be playing

At the end of four years, he will do a seven-month internship at the course of his choosing. At the end of the program, he will receive his Class A PGA card enabling him to teach/work/play at the course of his choosing.

He and his team at Samuel Clemens High School qualified for the state golf championship in Georgetown.

DaCosta Lodge holding cookbook fund-raiser

DACOSTA – A DaCosta Lodge cookbook fund-raiser is underway.

Lodge members are encouraged to submit their favorite recipes to Diane Stastny, 178 Pear Street, Victoria, Texas 77905. Use the form below.

Recipes must be received no later than Sept. 1, 2021, to be included.

The lodge will observe Join Hands Day on June 12 by helping the DaCosta Volunteer Fire Department with its annual barbecue. The event will be held at the lodge hall. Plates are $10 each and will be served from 4 to 7 pm. The Keen Country Band will provide entertainment from 8 p.m.-midnight. Cost is $10. The bar/kitchen will be open with the addition of chopped barbecue sandwiches in support of the

DVFD. Volunteers are asked to be at the hall at 2 p.m.

Dance registration will begin in June. Check out the article elsewhere in this issue for more information.

The lodge’s meeting dates for the remainder of the year are July 12, Sept. 13 and Nov. 9.

Lodge Update Editor’s Note: The following information was correct as of May 26 when the newspaper went to press.

Burton Burton will meet July 1 at 6:30 p.m. at the Burton Community Center. The lodge met in May. Officers are looking forward to seeing more members at the July meeting.

Cat Spring No meetings are scheduled at this time for Cat Spring. Members are mourning the passing of longtime member Robert Froebel in March.

Converse Converse will hold its picnic June 13 at 3 p.m. at the GRASP Building in Converse. The lodge will furnish a barbecue meal and members are asked to bring desserts.

Gulf Gulf will meet Sunday, June 27, at 3 p.m. at Spring Creek BBQ on IH-45. This will be the first general meeting in a year and a half. Scholarships will be presented.

Harmonia Harmonia has tentatively sched-

uled a meeting for July 8 depending on the outcome of a meeting of the officers scheduled for May 20. The lodge will be celebrating its 160th anniversary in July.

Officers are looking for ideas for Make a Difference Day projects.

Helotes Helotes will meet June 8 at 7 p.m. at Braun Hall. A meal will be provided. Door prizes will be awarded.

Rosenberg-Richmond Rosenberg-Richmond will meet June 14 at the Rosenberg Civic Center. Chicken fried steak and chicken fried chicken will be served. Members are asked to bring a dessert. The meal will be served at 7 p.m. followed by the meeting. The Aug. 9 meeting will include an ice cream social and game night.

Kerrville Kerrville will meet Wednesday, June 2, at the Hill Country Veterans Center, 411 Meadowview Lane, Kerrville. This meeting will take place if COVID-19 allows it to happen. The meal will include sandwiches, chips and fruit. Each member is asked to bring food for the meal.

Stern Stern held its first meeting since the pandemic. Eight members and officers met at Starcke Park in Seguin. Officers were installed.

High school seniors are eligible to apply for the lodge’s scholarship. The next meeting will be the first Sunday in August at 1 p.m. at the American Legion Hall in Seguin. Future meetings will be discussed.

San Marcos Lodge to meet via Zoom for June meeting SAN MARCOS – San Marcos Lodge will hold its June meeting via Zoom. Everyone is asked to bring their calendars to the meeting so a decision can be made on a date for the summer picnic.

On May 10, members gathered at the home of President Agnes Dreibrodt to prepare 60 activity bags for the HaysCaldwell Women’s Shelter in San Marcos. Items included were notebook folders, pencil holders, pens, glue sticks, note paper, scissors, play putty and toy cars. The remaining items will be distributed to day cares.

Kirby Lodge will celebrate Father’s Day on June 7 KIRBY – Kirby Lodge will meet June 7 at 7 p.m. The lodge will celebrate Father’s Day with a meal. The meat will be provided and members are asked to bring side dishes and desserts if they choose to eat. Members will be asked to observe social distancing and wear masks unless actively eating or drinking because some members have not been vaccinated.

At this meeting, members will discuss whether or not to postpone the July meeting because of the Fourth of July holiday.

Senior Bingo is set June 6 at 2 p.m. at the lodge hall. The doors will open at 1:30 p.m. There will be no sandwiches but punch and coffee will be served along with packaged desserts. Volunteers to help with the set up are asked to be at the hall at 1 p.m.

Welcomed as new members at the May meeting were Ellie Ray Santos, Wade Alfred Wiemers, Trevor Jacob Micklos and Scott James Dossett.

James and Henrietta Lowak have transferred to Poth Lodge.

They were active members of the lodge for many years.

Members mourned the passing of Stephen Davis and Phyllis Kahanek.

Angela Netherton reminded everyone that there is still time

to register for Camp.

She also talked about the single premium product that is now available to all ages.

One of the high school seniors who is applying for the lodge’s scholarship was introduced to the members. Her name is Allison Netherton. She will be attending the University of Texas at San Antonio and majoring in zoology. She helped set up the Join Hands Day project table and was involved in collecting donations with the Girl Scout Troop.

The Join Hands Day project was to collect items and cash donations for Schertz Animal Rescue. The rescue handles adoptions and fostering of animals and is a no kill shelter. The items were delivered in May by Angela and Allison Netherton on behalf of the lodge and the Girl Scout Troop co-sponsor.

Donations to the lodge’s scholarship fund were made in memory of Bernice Robinson, Phyllis Kahanek, Thomas Kaminski Jr., Stephen W. Davis and Gene L. Welch Allison Netherton was the $25 attendance prize winner.

Door prizes winners were Allison Netherton, Kerry Lambrecht and Lillian Brietzke.

Twin Sisters to present pins on June 6 TWIN SISTERS – Twin Sisters Lodge will meet June 6 and honor 50-, 60- and 70-year members. A representative from the Home Office will present membership pins.

A fish fry will follow the meeting. Stephen Hartmann will fry fish, French fries and hushpuppies; Marilyn Weidman will provide coleslaw; Herman Weber, beans and Georgia Hartmann and the Ethridge “gang” will provide the desserts.

At the April meeting, members observed a moment of silence in memory of Joyce Lee Knoll who passed away March 9.

In observance of Join Hands Day, members cleaned up the Blanco Community Cemetery.

Due to the snowstorm and COVID isolation, the cemetery needed brush and branch cleanup.

The lodge plans to feature the Hermann Sons Life float in the Blanco County Fair Parade on Saturday, Aug. 21.

Members were reminded to recommend a Humanitarian of the Year Award recipient for 2021 no later than the August meeting so the award can be presented in October.

Members were reminded of the Camp Workday in April as well as the Hermann Sons Youth Camp-Shannon Leigh Gaffney Scholarship Fund Golf Tournament in April, Flag Day on June 14, the Grief Support Camp session, July 5-8, and the mini-

camp sessions, July 8-10 and Aug. 1-4.

Celebrating birthdays in April were Sherry Weber, Margo Ethridge, Stephen Hartmann and Maverick Ethridge. Kent and Sherry Weber celebrated their sixth anniversary on April 29.

Myron Ethridge and Kaden Morash assisted in selecting door prize winners. The winners were Gertrude Hartmann and Deborah Knoll. They both donated their prizes to the Building Fund.

A prayer was recited before the meal of barbecue and all the trimmings. Thanks go to Kent Weber for the barbecue and to everyone who provided sides.

Giddings Lodge awards eight senior scholarships GIDDINGS – Giddings Lodge has awarded eight scholarships to 2021 high school graduates who are members of the lodge.

They are: Kailey Burgdorf, a graduate of Giddings High School. She wants to be a pharmacist.

Raina Allee, a graduate of Giddings High School. She wants to study finance.

Larren Montes, a graduate of Bastrop High School. He wants a career in federal law enforcement.

Caleb Schimank, a graduate of Canyon Lake High School. He wants to study engineering.

Kassidy Beisert, a graduate of Giddings High School. She wants to study animal science.

Haley Henderson, a graduate

of Giddings High School. She wants to study sports medicine.

Deanville Lodge begins planning July Fourth celebration Deanville Lodge will meet May 30 at 2 p.m. to make final plans for the big Fourth of July celebration. At the April 25 meeting it was announced that a drive-thru barbecue plate sale will be held on Sunday, July 4, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. The lodge is grateful to the Caldwell Middle School students and staff for all the hard work they did on the lodge grounds on April 16 as part of their Big Event Day. Members are encouraged to attend the May 30 meeting and to make plans to support the Lodge on the Fourth of July.

Fredericksburg Lodge to make several donations Amanda Bainbridge celebrated her birthday in May. She is a member of Corpus Christi Lodge and is holding Ryhlie Lynn Garcia. Ryhlie was one of the door prize winners at the lodge’s May meeting held at Miller’s BBQ. The other winners were Robert Rosas and Kerry Ginn.

Corpus Christi Lodge will hold its June meeting at the Hilltop Community Center. The social meeting will include a potluck meal.

Games will be played. Robert Rosas, pictured, was one of the door prize winners in May. He also was celebrating his birthday.

Fredericksburg Lodge met at the lodge hall in April and May. April’s meeting included a short memorial service for members who passed away in 2020. Decisions were made on donations to several social service organizations. In May, members enjoyed a fajita supper and bingo.

Bandera County provides prizes, snacks for seniors BANDERA – Bandera County Lodge met in person on April 11 at the home of President Gary Reile and wife Kathleen. Members enjoyed a lunch of hotdogs and hamburgers.

A Zoom meeting was held Jan. 24 during which officers were reelected. There are three signs at the field and one on the fieldhouse. President Gary and Kathleen Reile have attended several games.

The lodge’s team is called the Lake Monsters.

Retirement Home raffle tickets

The lodge’s annual ice cream social at the Retirement Home is on hold for now. Perhaps the summer will bring an outdoor event.

The lodge’s Camp scholarships is for the full $275 that it costs to attend Camp.

The dance recital is scheduled for Saturday, June 5, at 3 p.m. at Bandera High School. There are 17 dancers enrolled.

Other events on the lodge calendar including the Aug. 22 Appreciation Dinner at 4 p.m. at the Saltgrass Steak House in Helotes, a Nov. 7 meeting to plan the Christmas party and the Dec. 5 Christmas party.

El Campo honors pioneers, scholarship recipients

EL CAMPO – Long-time members and scholarship recipients were recognized at the April 9 meeting of El Campo Lodge held in the WCEC Thomas Edison Room Long-time members honored were Arvid Benner, 80 years; Willie Bender Jr., 75 years; George “Gaynard” Wigginton, 75 years; Gladys Korenek, 70 years; Donna Davis, 60 years; W. Christensen, 60 years; Jay Reber, 60 years.

This year’s scholarship recipients are JaVonte Levi of El Campo, $300; Hailey Rickman of Yoakum, $750; Ava Wigginton of Canyon Lake, $750; and Faith Wigginton of Richmond, $900.

Members voted to donate $200 to the MS 150 Bike Ride in support of Tawnya Witcher as she planned to ride in April.

Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is an unpredictable, often disabling disease of the central nervous system that disrupts the flow of information to the brain, and between the brain and the body. The MS 150 is the largest fund-raising bike series in the world with more than 75,000 riders each year.

A prayer was offered on the passing of JoAnn Bender. JoAnn was a sweet lady with a beautiful smile. She will be missed by El Campo Lodge.

Following the business meeting, the group enjoyed a meal of fried fish, fries, salad, tea and cake.

The next meeting will be held in the WCEC Thomas Edison Room starting at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, June 4.

Fort Worth makes donations for Join Hands Day FORT WORTH – Fort Worth Lodge members want to thank Ronnie and Darlene Jones for hosting the annual picnic. It is always a fun time when members can gather outside and enjoy some great hamburgers and hot dogs.

The lodge welcome a new junior member. Kharington Lay is a third-generation member and was recommended by her grandmother, Teresa Gray.

The lodge has completed its Join Hands Day projects. Three different organizations were

chosen to receive donations.

First, the lodge made a donation that will sponsor a child to attend the Camp’s Grief Support Session. Next, members met at The Harvest House in Burleson to donate funds that will be used to provide quality food for additional breakfasts and lunches needed by children who will be home during the summer months. The last donation went to the Military Order of the Purple Heart. The donation was presented at the picnic.

The lodge is so fortunate to

have the funds to donate to these organizations.

Poth has two new members POTH – Two new members were welcomed at the May 2 meeting of Poth Lodge. They are Emily Marie Ogburn and Erick Matthew Ogburn. James and Henrietta Lowak were welcomed by way of transfer.

A moment of silence was observed in memory of Yvonne S. Owens, Leonard Rotter, Betty Factor and Alice Skudrna.

The Humanitarian Award for 2020 was presented to the relatives of Leo Schneider.

Due to the pandemic, the presentation was deferred until the lodge could celebrate the life of Leo who passed away right af-

ter the lodge had selected him for the award The lodge received a check for $75 for meeting its new member goal for 2020.

Members approved a $50 donation to the Hermann Sons Youth Camp-Shannon Leigh Gaffney Scholarship Fund.

The lodge’s scholarship recipient for 2021 is Shianne Thomas who is a senior at Poth High School. Her plans are to attend Texas A&M University and study mathematics. Shianne and her family will be invited to the June meeting where she will be presented with her scholarship.

The monthly door prizes were won by Cloe Bostick and Pamela Cutsinger.

The members whose names were drawn for the kitty were Shane H. Rotter, Patricia C. Matthews and Steve L. Stone but they were not present so the prize amount will be increased by $2.

The meal included spaghetti with a salad and green beans followed by brownies and lemon bars provided by Patricia Lowak and Virginia Maha. Games followed the meal.

James and Henrietta Lowak celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in April. They recently transferred to Poth Lodge.

Dunlay meets June 15 DUNLAY – Dunlay Lodge members gathered May 18 for their first meeting since February 2020.

Members were excited to be able to once again socialize and plan for the future of the lodge.

Members and guests were treated to a Golden Chick meal provided by the lodge.

It was great to see that the lodge hall was not damaged by the tornado that passed through the area several weeks ago but it did have some pipe damage from the February ice

Plum Lodge recognizes retired officer in May Plum Lodge met in May at the Sealand Restaurant in La Grange to honor Verlene Hobratschk who has retired after 22 years of service to the lodge.

Members decided that the pin presentation ceremony usually held in June will be conducted during the annual Christmas party on Dec. 21 at 6 p.m.

Moulton Lodge members dance in recital

Lynette Saathoff Stewart was the lucky winner of the split-the-pot drawing held at the May meeting of Dunlay Lodge. Lynette has been a member for 45 years.

Two members of Moulton Lodge took part in the Schulenburg School of Dance recital.

They are Lindsey Orsak, daughter of James and Amanda Orsak, and Lilly Vrana, daughter of Sarah Tucker and Lee Vrana.

Macdona meets next Sept. 9 MACDONA – Macdona Lodge plans to meet Thursday, Sept. 9, at 6:30 p.m. at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Church Parish Hall.

This will be the lodge’s first meeting since COVID-19 began.

Topics of discussion will be Make A Difference Day, the election of officers and the Christ-

mas Party.

Members are encouraged to attend this important meeting.

The lodge welcomes new junior members Kinzi Marie Sollohub, Benjamin Scott Williamson, Charlotte Ann Ripps and Harper Christine Ripps.
