opportunities present themselves.” John said his goal is to first grow membership. “I am excited and honored to be involved in this new Greater Texas Lodge. We are the firstever virtual lodge, allowing us to help our community in many unique ways,” John said. Because we don’t have a building to worry about, giving back to the community will be the biggest priority, and we will encourage every member of the lodge to start getting involved in their local communities and letting the lodge help where it can. “Building this new lodge in uncharted territory is very exciting, and I want to invite anyone who is interested to join us on April 17. We are still seeking to fill the vice president seat at our next meeting. Only a Greater Texas Lodge member can hold the title of vice president and participate in voting. If you want to transfer to the Greater Texas Lodge to be a part of this exciting time, please call the Home Office to complete the required paperwork to transfer. Forms are also available on the website.” John encouraged anyone with questions to contact him or if they have ideas and topics to share for future meetings, to let him know. See NEW, Pg. 2

Homeless Prevention Services Provides rental assistance, utility assistance and supportive services to individuals and families who are in imminent danger of eviction or are currently homeless. Transitional Housing SAMMinistries’ Transitional Living and Learning Center (TLLC) is home for 40 famlies as they work to overcome homelessness. The TLLC provides housing, support and resources to families (parent

plus at least one minor child) who show a commitment to gaining self-sufficiency. The individual needs of all family members are supported for a two-year period, promoting the viability of the family while they transition out of homelessness. Rapid Re-housing The Rapid Re-Housing program reduces the amount of time a family experiences homelessness and rapidly re-houses families into permanent, affordable homes. Financial assistance is provided for up to 3 months along with 12 months of case management. Veterans’ Housing Stability Program The Veterans’ Housing Stability Program (VHSP) provides comprehensive housing support to veterans or surviving spouses through homeless prevention, rapid re-housing and wraparound services.

Permanent Supportive Housing Permanent Supportive Housing assists and empowers families to live as independently as possible. SAMMinistries has a permanent housing program that assists families with whom one member of the family has a disability. SAMMinistries also manages 100 set-aside housing vouchers to help families find permanent housing in the private rental market. Other Supportive Services At SAMMinistries it is important that we serve our clients and the community holistically. To do this, we offer supportive services to all program participants to support them spiritually, mentally and physically. These services include spiritual services, educational assistance, employ-

ment development and wellness classes. SAMMExpress, located at 910 Oblate Drive, collects and distributes new and used clothing, household items and furniture. 'Grow with Us' new campaign theme for 2024 By TERESA SAATHOFF Vice President of Sales Happy New Year! Thank you for all you do for your lodge. I appreciate every member who attends their lodge meetings and especially those who volunteer to serve as a lodge officer. I am proud of the 28 lodges that met or exceeded its 2023 lodge membership goals. All 28 lodges will be receiving a check for achieving their membership goals. The 2024 lodge membership campaign theme is “Grow with Us.” As I attended lodge meetings and lodge Christmas parties this past year, I was always paying attention to what worked for each individual lodge. The most common dynamic that brought members together was sharing a meal together and the second thing was a combination of games, door prizes and raffles – another way of bonding with lodge members, friends and the community. My own lodge, Prinz Solms, had the largest gain in membership this past year and I can remember our meetings having bare minimum attendance in the past, but I think my lodge president and his wife (Clif and Audrey Klabunde) have helped Prinz Solms Lodge turn attendance

around. We now have 25-30 members attend on a regular basis and our Christmas party had more than 150 people in attendance. Both Clif and Audrey are always inviting people (whether they are members or not) to attend our meetings. Audrey’s group texts are the perfect reminder to remember our meeting dates and times and a great reminder to bring a side dish or dessert. We always have a great meal, play bingo and when possible, we have a speaker from our community give a presentation. Have you considered inviting your friends, neighbors or relatives to a lodge meeting? Once they are there, simply explain that they too can be a member by purchasing a life insurance policy or an annuity from Hermann Sons Life. We have life insurance products to fit

Fort Worth Lodge recommender wins gift card The Sales Department is recognizing six more recommenders for the month of December. This brings the total to 223 members recommending and a total of 290 new members to Hermann Sons Life in 2023. The winner of a $50 gift card for December is Corrie Wells of Fort Worth Lodge. Congratulations to the following recommenders: Recommender Agent Shirley Breitschopf, Gonzales Bobbie Polasek Melissa Depalermo, Seguin Annette Roecker Dalton Kuntschik, Gonzales Bobbie Polasek Corrie Wells, Fort Worth Sandra Jones Melissa Whitt, Cuero Family Wayne Tiffin Kevin Zoch, Round Top Linda Mattocks

everyone’s budget and our new annuities are currently earning 5 percent interest! If you do not have an agent at your meeting, feel free to reach out to me personally and I will make sure we take care of anyone interested in joining our wonderful organization. We are always recruiting new agents and if you know

of someone in your community that would consider joining Hermann Sons Life as an agent, please steer them our way. We are always recruiting new agents and I would appreciate your help in finding new agents. Growing membership in all Hermann Sons Life lodges is crucial for fostering a sense of community, ensuring financial stability and sustaining our organization’s mission and values. A larger membership base allows for increased support, resources and a broader impact on the community. A flyer will be included with your lodge’s new member goal packet for 2024. Please write in the number of new members each month for 2024. Membership will be counted when a new member joins your lodge by purchasing life insur-

ance, an annuity or signs up for Medicare. In 2024, lodges will earn $50 for meeting their lodge goal and additional $25 if the lodge exceeds its lodge goal. The lodge that exceeds its goal by at least three members and has the largest positive membership gain will earn an additional $200. Please keep the referrals coming our way! We appreciate all members and will continue to have a recommender drawing each month. You can recommend prospects through our website at hermannsonslife.org, by email, sales@hermannsonslife.org, by phone at 210-5279113 or by reaching out to your local agents. Thank you for being a Hermann Sons Life member. Our campaign of “Grow with Us” is possible if we all work together!

Life Happens created and coordinates Insure Your Love month every February to remind Americans that the basic motivation behind the purchase of life insurance is love. It’s a month when the industry comes together to share the message that getting life insurance is a simple and affordable way for consumers to protect the ones they love financially. This year’s campaign theme is: How to say “I love you.”

Camp 2024 enrollment set to open in March By IAN BRASSETT Executive Camp Director Greetings from Comfort! It’s time for the serious business of preparing the best possible summer camp experience for our junior members and you can help! We want to keep growing our summer camp program. Does your son or daughter have a friend that wants to attend camp? Talk to them about our summer camp offerings. Let them know about our dance classes and all the community and good works we do as an organization. Put them in touch with your local agents. The sooner the better to make sure the paperwork is completed before the summer and the sessions begin to fill. Enrollment will begin in March! We’re already staffing up nicely. I’m always on the lookout for quality individuals to work with our junior members as counselors. The minimum age for counselors is 18 if the staff member did not participate in our CIT programs. We need medical staff We’re Hiring! I’m really excited about the upcoming summer. I will be needing medical staff this summer (RNs, LPNs, EMTs, CNAs). If you, or anyone you know is a nurse, please have them reach out to me at 909-362-9058 or ianb@hermannsonslife.org. The Medical Staff position is a paid position at camp and includes paid tuition for their child(ren). They do not need to be Hermann Sons Life members for a paid role at camp. Zoom sessions and Parent Handbook I always want to make sure the parents feel included and part of the summer camp. A Parent Handbook is being updated to provide our parents instructions, directions and information. From drop off to pick up, we really want to work with our parents in helping provide the safest summer

camp available for our junior members. To help our parents, and potential camp parents, we will be conducting ZOOM sessions as a forum to provide valuable information for our parents along with a forum for parents (and campers) to ask questions. We have currently scheduled two zoom sessions on different days to hopefully allow you to attend at least one of them. Saturday, March 23 – 9 a.m. Sunday, April 14 – 9 a.m. Please email Ian Brassett at ianb@hermannsonslife.org to get on the mailing list for these Zoom calls. YouTube Page – Video Camp Tours The Hermann Sons Life Official YouTube page has wonderful videos online to help our parents and new campers know a little more about camp. There are short video tours of both Riverside and Hilltop camps. Also on our YouTube page you will find instructional videos of some of our more popular line dances and you’ll be able to hear, see and practice some of our camp songs. https://www.youtube.com/ channel/UCRhtPPY88bAaXmk1OjI2KCg Facility updates The Board, President and CEO Robin Czarnek and Vice President of Member Benefits Cecily Kelly have been great in helping me get what we need to run an exceptional camp for our campers. Some lodges have also been amazing at helping and donating to the summer camp. My desire is to provide our campers and staff with the best possible summer camp facility and equipment. Any help the lodges can provide is always welcome. This is just a partial list of the improvements we have made and will be making this year before camp begins. This year, we will be replastering the Hilltop pool and updating the plant that services

the pool. This will provide our group rentals and both Hilltop and Riverside campers an incredible pool experience. Facility rentals We have a wonderful group returning our way again in June. We’ve hosted Girl Scout groups, weddings, banquets and proms at the facility. Please spread the word. Every time we can utilize the facility throughout the year it provides me the opportunity to invest more into improving the facility and providing our junior members the best possible summer camp experience. We’re excited to be able to provide our members and non-members a great vantage point for viewing the April solar eclipse. (See Pg. 11 for details). Helping hands I’ve received a few calls from lodges asking if there is anything their lodge can help us with for next summer. I love this sense of community and appreciate whatever the lodges can do. If any of your members are planning on updating their furniture, I’m looking for some gently used couches for our staff lounges (we can pick up). I’d also love to begin a project of planting trees to provide for our junior members in the next 30-40 years! If you know anyone with experience with big planting projects, please have them reach out. Volunteer workday Our annual volunteer workday is scheduled for April 13. Any and all are welcome to come by and help us get the camps ready for our campers. Lunch and dinner will be provided. Many hands make light work. Lodge visits I have had the pleasure of visiting with many lodges to discuss camp and our plans for the summer. I hope to visit with many more lodges through the winter and spring. PLEASE IN-

VITE ME. I’d like to attend your meetings to discuss the camp program and why camp is such a special and important part of Hermann Sons Life. Questions? I’m here to serve our campers and parents. If you’d like to

ask questions in a more private forum, please do not hesitate to call me at 830-995-3223. I’m always available to speak with and discuss camp with our membership. I’d love a few minutes to chat with your lodges.

Brunhilde Lodge gathers for Christmas celebration SAN ANTONIO – Brunhilde Lodge members came together to celebrate the holidays. Members enjoyed food, drink, fellowship and singing as well as a surprise visit from the North Pole, Santa and Mrs. Claus! Guess our members have been very good this year. The lodge sponsored a nursing home this holiday season and provided gifts, snacks and caroling. Socks, blankets and other items requested by the home were donated. Members and residents enjoyed singing together, a visit with Mrs. Claus and lots of sweets. The next meeting will be held in January 2024. – Reporter

Howie’s Happenings Pups keep busy digging hole By ROBIN CZARNEK President and CEO Howie and Beau have decided to show off their handyman skills. We’re not quite sure if it’s foundation work…or maybe they’re trying to till out a garden for us. Whatever their goal is, they are working hard at it! They have been digging a hole, often in the wet weather and having a ball. We haven’t been particularly thrilled as once they’ve had enough, they come inside with their muddy paws and noses and take a nap on the couch. We have decided that perhaps it’s time to rein them in some, so we’re closing the doggie door on the wet days, much to

their chagrin. Krypto has remained above the fray and just stays true to his ball fetching. He finds the mud much too messy for his liking and prefers to stay clean! The boys and Tig all have a love for popcorn. We try to limit their intake, but we get the stare down as you can tell from the picture. The minute they smell popcorn they are glued to us trying to get us to cave. Howie and Beau wanted to share their friend, Pumpkin, with you. Pumpkin is just one of the many adorable pups of all kinds located at Heart of Texas SPCA/ HOT K9 Rescue. Pumpkin is absolutely precious. She is energetic, loves

to play and has been having a blast learning to fetch. If you’re interested in meeting any of the pups at HOTK9 or for more information, please email: hotk9rescue@yahoo. com to schedule a time to meet them. For more information and to view all of the amazing dogs available for adoption, please check out Heart of Texas SPCA / HOTK9 Rescue on Facebook or at www.heartoftexasspca.com. You’ll also be able to see their adoption events where you can meet many of their precious pups. Keep in mind that Heart of Texas SPCA/HOT K9 Rescue is a volunteer run organization, so email is best.
