Don’t wait to submit your entry for the Heritage Golf Invitational 2022 “Islands of the South”. While the deadline for submitting your entry is August 15th, the reduced pricing ends on July 31st. I want to thank Bill Hazel for an outstanding job in leading this year’s efforts with assistance from the Heritage staff. While the final decision on the Tee Gifts is still outstanding, having viewed the alternatives, it is fair to say whatever is chosen will be substantial. My congratulations to John Manfre, a new member this year, who turned in an amazing round of 73 on Saturday, June 18 including Fifteen pars, 2 bogeys and 1 birdie. In the same foursome Greg Lyons shot a net 67, I believe one of his best rounds. Teamed with Larry Ernst and Steve Dill, the other 16 Early Birds had no chance at winning. Heritage has announced the hiring of our new Chef, Scott Woodcock. Join me in welcoming Scott to our Port Royal Golf and Racquet Club. Heritage has also introduced an Employee of the Month recognition program. Parris Brown, our Court & Grounds Maintenance person, was recognized for his contributions for April and Eric Fernandez, our Chief mechanic, was recognized for May. Join me in congratulating them both. Heritage has promoted Michael Collier from within. Michael, who joined Heritage one year ago, has been working in the Sports Shop and helping our outside bag staff. Michael is now working in Leisure Sales which fits his educational background. Congratulations Michael. A win-win for all of us. I took a few weeks off as we travelled to Connecticut to visit our son, his wife and our 2 grandchildren. Even more amazing, I did not receive any, like zero, complaints during this time away. I returned to green grass on the fairways. After aeration, there is lots of new turf. The progress is great to see. Someone commented about the grass in the rough. How many of us remember the good ole days when, if you hit your ball in the rough, it was almost impossible to find the ball? Jay has assured me we will not see such deep grass again and many birdies are being reported. Improved course conditions must be helping such excellent play. Tennis and pickleball continue to thrive. All courts are very busy in the early hours with afternoons slow – must be the heat factor. The Board, in June, put together a list of potential members for the Nominating Committee. Hopefully by the time you are reading this newsletter, I will have completed my task of forming the Committee. Once again, if you have any interest in being considered for the 2023 Board of Governors, let me know and I will forward your interest to the Chairperson for consideration.
