RELATIONSHIPS Heritage Christian believes in placing an equal emphasis on academic excellence and relational discipleship. Our faculty and staff make it part of their mission to minister to students, both in and out of the classroom. They do this by challenging their students to see God’s work in light of their schoolwork, by mentoring students, and by building relationships with students and their families.

Our high school faculty and staff are Christ-followers with a mission to share the Gospel with their students, while building life-long relationships.

While working to help our high school students identify their gifts and calling, our teachers are preparing them for college and most importantly, to impact the culture for Christ.

SPIRITUAL DEVELOPMENT In addition to our academic rigor, what truly sets us apart and explains our success is our equally valued focus on transformational discipleship. We use God’s inerrant Word as our guide for how to disciple students holistically. Our “Teach, Mentor, Train” discipleship model puts definition to what Heritage has been doing from the beginning.

TEACH: Heritage was founded on the premise that the Bible is essential for all of life, including academics. As a result of this belief, we are very intentional about teaching our students the facts of the Bible, core doctrines, and principles of Christian living. These subjects are specifically taught in Bible classes and weekly chapels, but we also integrate Bible teaching in all classroom environments. For one week each semester, students have chapel every day, which allows students to focus their attention for several days on our annual Spiritual Theme or a special topic.

MENTOR: All of our teachers are Christians who value the opportunity to educate in their subject area of expertise and help students grow in their faith in Christ. Teachers, coaches and staff are intentional about building relationships with students. Doing so facilitates natural opportunities to teach character and leadership, model a Christian lifestyle and train them to serve God and others.

TRAIN: Our classrooms, athletics and extracurriculars provide opportunities for our students to develop leadership skills, identify their gifts, articulate the Gospel, and practice serving others. These opportunities are a direct result of our commitment to mentor our students both in and out of the classroom.

ACADEMICS HERITAGE CHRISTIAN HIGH SCHOOL OFFERS A RIGOROUS COLLEGE PREPARATORY CURRICULUM FOCUSING ON ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE AND SPIRITUAL DEVELOPMENT. Our faculty and staff are committed to biblical integration within each subject as well as discipleship and mentorship of students. Many teachers are also involved in extracurricular activities, impacting our students’ lives beyond the classroom.

ACADEMIC OFFERINGS: Heritage Christian High School offers a diversified college preparatory curriculum. These classes are carefully designed to provide the necessary academic foundation as a student moves from 9th to 12th grade.

ADVANCED COURSES:

(HONORS, AP, AND DUAL CREDIT) All classes at HCS are considered to be college preparatory. However, there are three types of courses that are more advanced: Honors, AP, and Dual Credit.

Each of these courses are weighted in GPA calculations.

EARLY COLLEGE ACADEMY PROGRAM (eCAP): eCAP is an “add-on” certificate that is designed to further prepare students for the rigor of university work and increase a student’s high school profile for college admission. eCAP is an advanced HCS college prep certificate that requires students to earn the Academic Honors Diploma plus take at least 10 AP/DC courses or the equivalent of 30 college credits.

INTERTERM WEEK:

We set aside one week in the second semester to let students explore possibilities, cultivate unique talents, and sharpen skills. Freshmen and sophomores complete special classes at school. Juniors participate in an internship or job-shadowing experience. Seniors take an exciting week-long trip.

STEM: The Heritage STEM program (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) is a fundamental reason for our school’s academic excellence. STEM education is integrated into all levels of instruction at HCS. High school students have opportunities to participate in STEM classes and other initiatives, such as Robotics.

The mission of the Heritage Christian School Athletic Department is to glorify God through the discipleship of student-athletes and the pursuit of excellence in athletics with the Bible as the foundation and Jesus Christ as our focus. What that means in tangible ways is: Glorify God - This means that in and out of competition, we will seek to “make Jesus famous” through our words and actions.

Disciple Students - Whether it’s our coaches or our student-athletes, our aim is to disciple others by guiding their hearts and minds towards Jesus. The department does this through what it calls the “three prong approach,” supporting the three main relationships that take place in athletics: department-to-coach, coach-to-student, and team-to-team.

Pursue Excellence - Our athletic programs will seek to do all things with excellence. That shows in competition, in practices, the weight room, the classroom and the hallways. How we speak and act are important. We want to plan, prepare and compete to win, but how we get there is equally important.

EXTRACURRICULARS Extracurricular clubs and organizations allow HCS high school students to discover and pursue their passions outside the classroom. Students can develop leadership skills and identify their spiritual gifts through many of these activities.

STUDENT COUNCIL:

Students are elected by their classmates to serve on the Student Council each year. They manage and events that involve the entire student body and encourage student participation.

NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY (NHS): Students are selected to participate in NHS based on scholarship, leadership, service, and character. They participate in service activities in their communities and the school.

VEX ROBOTICS: Our Robotics program is available to students in 5th through 12th grade.

With more than 100 students involved in the program, students learn valuable engineering and programming skills, while focusing on innovation, collaboration , project management and critical thinking.

Our teams have won numerous awards at the city, state, national and world championships for several consecutive years.

STUDENT GOVERNMENT (BY ELECTION): The Student Government deals with issues and events that involve the entire student body. Elected students participate in the planning of school life and activities, such as homecoming, winter formal, etc. It seeks to develop well-balanced social programs, to encourage student participation in school activities, and to uphold the spiritual and moral principles upon which the school is founded.

MOCK TRIAL: Students prepare a fictional civil or criminal case for trial alongside real-life attorneys and other professionals, then compete in regional and state competitions. Since 1999, Heritage has earned a strong reputation as one of the top five schools in the intensely competitive Indiana High School Mock Trial program.

PARENT TEACHER FELLOWSHIP (PTF): From new family activities in the fall to the annual Fun Run in the spring, our Parent Teacher Fellowship orchestrates events that bring Heritage families and faculty together throughout the school year. PTF is a great way for any parent to become more connected with the Heritage community.

PARENTS IN PRAYER: We believe that lives and whole communities are changed forever when parents gather to pray to the only One who can change a human heart. Parents can make the difference as they meet together weekly and reach out to God in prayer.
