Don’t worry if you have never driven a boat before, most of our customers have little or no experience when they first arrive. Our cruisers are very easy to handle and our staff will give you a thorough tutorial and a test drive before you depart for your holiday. All of our cruisers are fully equipped with everything you may need for a comfortable stay. Our friendly staff are always on hand to help your holiday run smoothly.

Over 90 years of continuous Boating Holidays on the Norfolk Broads Herbert Woods is a name synonymous with both the Norfolk Broads and Potter Heigham. Herbert Woods began in 1929, when as a young man Herbert took over the family boat building firm Walter Woods & Sons. He then set about an ambitious plan of expanding the small fleet of Broads Hire cruisers and began the boat building and creating the mooring facilities of ‘Broads Haven’ that make up the marina that you see today. Herbert Woods is the second largest hire boat yard on the Broads operating over 125 cruisers with a strong workforce who are dedicated to providing the highest level of customer service and will always make sure your Norfolk Broads holiday is one that will be remembered for many years to come.

Going on holiday without the entire family and having to leave your four legged friends behind can prove quite difficult for some and may even prevent families from staying away for a long period. From as little as £35.00 per pet, per short break/week, bringing your pet on holiday couldn’t be easier. If you’re looking to captain your own boat and uncover the waterways then here at Herbert Woods we have something for every pet lover out there to enjoy. Dog life jackets are available on a first come first served basis and cannot be booked in advance. Whilst every effort is made to have dog life jackets available for all of our holiday customers, you can provide own dog life jacket to avoid the unlikely event of being disappointed. WHAT’S INCLUDED Everything you expect to find in a self catering accommodation you will find on a Herbert Woods cruiser. From the moment you arrive you can be sure of a warm welcome. You will be greeted by our helpful and friendly staff who will check you in and direct you to your boat. Don’t worry if this is your first time handling a boat, our experienced staff will give you a full tutorial to show you how to use the controls and safety equipment on board and how to manoeuvre and moor the boat safely. You will be required to go for a practice run on the river before departing for your holiday. On board you will find a Skipper’s Manual which contains all the information you might need whilst out on the water to ensure your holiday is as safe and relaxing as possible. In the unlikely event you experience any issues or come into any difficulties whilst out on the water then you can contact our 24 hour service team and allow us to rectify this.

Fishing is permitted within the Herbert Woods marna during the fishing season which runs 16th June to 14th March. A valid Environment agency fishing licence is required. Fishing licenses can be purchased from the post office or online at https://www.gov.uk/fishing-licences/buy-a-fishing-licence (bait and tackle not included). If you’re thinking about fishing on the water then don’t forget to enquire about our brand new Catch Fleet which are available to hire on a daily basis and as a Herbert Woods customer you will be entitled to a 25% discount off the hire during your stay.

WONDERFUL WINTERTIME It’s the most wonderful time of the year - Join us for a Winter Break on the Broads Winter is a wonderful time of year to visit the Broads. Once the summer crowds have left you are able to appreciate the peaceful waterways, beautiful winter scenery and active wildlife. The pike fishing season is in full swing and the numerous birds that migrate to the Broads over the winter make it an excellent time of year for bird watching. There is plenty to keep you occupied, explore some of the 150 miles of footpaths, enjoy a trip on the Santa Express or make a start on your Christmas shopping in the city of Norwich. All cottages & apartments are fully heated and Broadlands, Mallard and Bittern also feature electric wood burning stoves, so you can be sure of a cosy stay.

Christmas and New Year Our waterside cottages are perfect for hosting your Christmas & New Year celebrations and with cottages available to sleep up to 9, there is room to accommodate everyone. All of our properties have fully equipped kitchens for whipping up your festive feast, why not order your food and drink online and have it delivered to your cottage or apartment on your arrival.
