Our cruisers are very easy to handle and our staff will give you a thorough tutorial and a test drive before you depart for your holiday. Herbert Woods is a name synonymous with both the Norfolk Broads and Potter Heigham. Herbert Woods began in 1929, when as a young man Herbert took over the family boat building firm Walter Woods & Sons. He then set about an ambitious plan of expanding the small fleet of Broads Hire cruisers and began the boat building and creating the mooring facilities of ‘Broads Haven’ that make up the marina that you see today.

PET FRIENDLY BOATING HOLIDAYS We’re pleased to announce from 2021 we will become Pet Friendly across our entire fleet of Cruisers, meaning no one will be left behind!

Going on holiday without the entire family and having to leave your four legged friends behind can prove quite difficult for some and may even prevent families from staying away for a longer period.

From as little as £35.00 per pet, per short break/week, bringing your pet on holiday couldn’t be easier. If you’re looking to captain your own boat and uncover the waterways then here at Herbert Woods we have something for every pet lover out there to enjoy.

Dog life jackets are available on a first come first served basis and cannot be booked in advance. Whilst every effort is made to have dog life jackets available for all of our holiday customers, you can provide own dog life jacket to avoid the unlikely event of being disappointed.

WHAT’S INCLUDED Everything you expect to find in a self catering accommodation you will find on a Herbert Woods cruiser.

From the moment you arrive you can be sure of a warm welcome. You will be greeted by our helpful and friendly staff who will check you in and direct you to your boat. Don’t worry if this is your first time handling a boat, our experienced staff will give you a full tutorial to show you how to use the controls and safety equipment on board and how to manoeuvre and moor the boat safely. You will be required to go for a practice run on the river before departing for your holiday.

On board you will find a Skipper’s Manual which contains all the information you might need whilst out on the water to ensure your holiday is as safe and relaxing as possible. In the unlikely event you experience any issues or come into any difficulties whilst out on the water then you can contact our 24 hour service team and allow us to rectify this. Please note we make no additional charge for extra persons up to the boat’s maximum capacity as stated in the individual boat description. Due to the current Covid-19 procedures, you may notice a few changes in how we operate. We are carrying out extra cleaning and checks which may result in delays in our handover times. FINDING YOUR PERFECT CRUISER Choosing your holiday cruiser may seem a little daunting, so we have put together a few things for you to consider before making your decision. Whether you’re thinking about the size, driving position, bed arrangements or key features, here at Herbert Woods we have cruisers to suit everyone.

BOAT SIZE Our boats can accommodate between 2 and 12 people. One of the main decisions when choosing your cruiser is whether you wish to use the saloon for sleeping by converting the seating area into a bed each night.

STEERING POSITION Dual Steering Stylish and modern looking, these boats have an inside forward steering position and an outside steering position on the upper deck. However, there are steps between the two positions and the height of the cruiser may mean that you have difficulty fitting under some of the bridges on the Broads.

EASE OF ACCESSIBILITY The low, single-level boats are more suitable for those with restricted accessibility.

Forward Steering Boats with a forward steering position tend to be on one level giving ease of access. Some have a split sliding roof to open over the seating area on sunny days.

Fishing is permitted within the Herbert Woods marna during the fishing season which runs 16th June to 14th March. A valid Environment agency fishing licence is required. Fishing licenses can be purchased from the post office or online at https://www.gov.uk/fishing-licences/buy-a-fishing-licence (bait and tackle not included). WONDERFUL WINTERTIME It’s the most wonderful time of the year - Join us for a Winter Break on the Broads Winter is a wonderful time of year to visit the Broads. Once the summer crowds have left you are able to appreciate the peaceful waterways, beautiful winter scenery and active wildlife. The pike fishing season is in full swing and the numerous birds that migrate to the Broads over the winter make it an excellent time of year for bird watching.

There is plenty to keep you occupied, explore some of the 150 miles of footpaths, enjoy a trip on the Santa Express or make a start on your Christmas shopping in the city of Norwich.

CRUISER TERMS AND CONDITIONS Minimum Passengers

Arrival and Departure Times

For safety reasons each cruiser must have a minimum of two adult passengers on board.

We aim for all cruisers to be available from the times stated below. Every boat is checked before the commencement of hire and in the event of problems preparing the boat for your holiday the right is reserved to delay departure without compensation until work is completed. HW shall not be responsible for the consequences of delays or restrictions on cruising arising from obstruction, repairs or damage to waterways, late return by previous hirers, high tides, flooding, shortage of water, industrial action or other circumstances beyond their control. The right is reserved to restrict cruising if unusual or hazardous conditions prevail, or there is a weather warning in place.

Fuel Deposit A fuel deposit of up to £175, depending on the size of cruiser, is required in advance for all cruiser holidays. At the end of your holiday, the balance of any fuel remaining will be repaid to you.

Damage Waiver for Hire Cruisers A non-refundable damage waiver of up to £65, depending on the size of cruiser, is required in advance for all cruiser holidays. Cruisers are individually insured by Herbert Woods, however you (the Lead Hirer) are responsible for damage or loss to the boat and it’s equipment or for any damage to third-party property. You may be held responsible for all damage caused by your own actions and those of other members of your party.

Additional Security Deposit

Weekly Holidays: Arrival Time 4.00pm and Vacated by 9.00am Short Break: Arrival Time 2:30pm and Vacated by 9.00am Elite Cruisers: Arrival Time 2:30pm and Vacated by 9:00am

For certain groups e.g. single sex, non-family groups, stag or hen bookings, HW reserves the right to charge an additional security deposit. In addition to the Damage Waiver, a Security Deposit of £50.00 per berth (e.g. 4+2 berth = £300), payable by credit/debit card is required from the Lead Hirer, this must be paid 56 days before arrival. HW also reserves the right to charge an additional security deposit for such groups on arrival this must be paid by credit/debit card before you commence your holiday. If you return the boat on time, in a clean condition and without damage, loss of equipment or third-party claim against you, the deposit will be processed within 14 days. Where loss or damage has occurred, all or part of your security deposit may be withheld by Herbert Woods to cover the cost of loss of use of the boat, repairs, extra cleaning etc. Notwithstanding the above if you or any member of your party either fail to comply with booking conditions or cause negligent, wilful or criminal damage you will be fully liable for any loss incurred.

Please advise the boat yard (Herbert Woods) if you intend to arrive later than stated arrival time. In the event of late arrival (after 5pm) you may be required to spend the first night in the Marina, with the boat handover process undertaken the following morning.

On arrival you (the Lead Hirer) will be required to read and sign the Hirers Code of Conduct. This sets out the behaviour we expect from you and your party throughout the duration of your holiday, failure to comply with this Code of Conduct may result in immediate termination of your holiday without compensation.

If a breakdown, malfunction or problem of any kind occurs you must report it to the call-out service immediately so that repairs can be made to enable you to resume your cruise. You must not wait to report it until you return at the end of your holiday. If we are informed, we will take steps to solve any problems as quickly as is practical in the circumstances.

Boat Handover On arrival the Lead Hirer (or other appropriate member of the hiring party) will be required to complete and sign a boat handover certificate following a handover process and trial run on the river, by signing this document, you are agreeing to accept the boat in its existing condition.

If for any reason you are unhappy with your boat on arrival you should notify us immediately so that remedial action, if appropriate, can be taken. You should not sign the boat handover certificate until you are satisfied that the problem has been rectified.

Cancellation Protection

Parking

Cancellation protection is included in the brochure price. Cover is obligatory and is automatically provided against loss of your deposit and liability to pay the balance of hire charges if you have to cancel or curtail your holiday for certain unavoidable reasons. This is included in the holiday price and is paid within your initial deposit.

Outside parking for one vehicle, for cruisers up to 6 berth, 2 vehicles over 6 berth, is included in the cost of your holiday. Parking for any additional vehicles will be charged as follows:

The use of a standard day boat is included within in your holiday. 1 full days (8 hours) hire for 7 night breaks. Hours may vary during the winter months due to darker nights. 25% off all short break holidays. Any additional day boat hire is chargeable at full price less a 25% discount.

Our day boats are available from 30th March - 31st October 9am - 5pm Monday - Saturday and Sunday 9am - 5pm.

From 1st November - 29th March inclusive the day boats are available Monday - Friday and are subject to availability and weather conditions at the time of hire.

Please note that we closed over the Christmas period so day boats will not be available at this time.

There must be 2 adults on board our day boats at all times. We do not accept lone sailors.

The free of charge day boat is non-transferable and there is no cash alternative.

Cancellation Protection Cancellation protection is included in the brochure price. Cover is obligatory and is automatically provided against loss of your deposit and liability to pay the balance of hire charges if you have to cancel or curtail your holiday for certain unavoidable reasons. This is included in the holiday price and is paid within your initial deposit.
