Hepatitis: Take Action A fibroscan machine measures the stiffness of your liver. It measures the speed of a vibration (pulse) that travels through your liver. You hardly notice the pulse and about 10 pulses are measured. The whole examination takes around 15 minutes. The fibroscan doesn’t involve needles: it’s like an ultrasound machine. WHAT DO FIBROSCAN SCORES MEAN? The higher your score, the more likely that your liver has fibrosis or cirrhosis. 2.5 – 7.4 suggests no or minimal fibrosis 7.5 – 9.4 suggests moderate fibrosis 9.5 – 12.4 suggests severe fibrosis and high risk of cirrhosis 12.5 – 75 suggests extensive fibrosis and cirrhosis
