Georgia Department of Transportation Requests Feedback & Comments

In keeping with Governor Brian Kemp’s directive to keep state government agencies functioning as Georgia combats the COVID-19 pandemic, Georgia DOT is moving forward by placing project information for review and feedback into an internet platform to comply with social distancing and avoiding crowds of 10+ people. We appreciate your participation in this process. The Georgia Department of Transportation has posted information at https://sr-81-widening-0015089gdot.hub.arcgis.com/ related to the proposed widening of SR 81 east of Lemon Street to Bethany Road. This project proposes to widen SR 81 from a two-lane section to a four-lane median-divided section. The project length is approximately 3.02 miles. It will include a 16-foot shoulder with curb and gutter and 5-foot sidewalks on one side and a 19-foot shoulder with curb and gutter and a 10-foot shared-use path on the other side, as well as a proposed 20-foot raised median. A small amount of right-of-way is expected to be required from Heritage Park on Lake Dow Road;

however, no impacts are expected to occur to the areas of recreational use associated with this facility. The purpose of this internet posting is to replace an in-person meeting, while allowing the public to review the proposed project, provide feedback, or write in with questions. Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Information: To request materials in accessible formats for people with disabilities contact the district planning and programing engineer Harland Smith at 706-646-7566. Comments will be accepted concerning this project until Monday, January 11, 2021. Written statements may be submitted to: Mr. Eric Duff State Environmental Administrator Georgia Department of Transportation 600 West Peachtree Street, NW – 16th Floor Atlanta, Georgia 30308
