TRANSFER Hennepin Technical College is a transfer friendly institution. Once you apply and declare a major, the Transfer Specialist can review your transcript to determine what will be accepted for transfer. In addition, the Transfer Center can assist students who plan to transfer to other institutions of higher education from Hennepin Technical College. The college has many articulation agreements with other colleges and universities to accept credits in transfer for specific academic programs. Articulation agreements are also in place with some high schools. Once high school students are admitted to the college they may be able to receive college credit for specific courses taken at the high school level. Credit for Prior Learning and Portfolio Review Credit for Prior Learning and Portfolio Review are available to students that have career and life experience. The Credit for Prior Learning course provides students the opportunity to receive college credit for life experience via an individualized portfolio project that documents knowledge in key academic areas. Evidence may include: certificates, letters from supervisors, pictures, videos, and personal narrations explaining key concepts. The course guides students step-by-step through the preparation and compilation of components required for creating a prior learning assessment (PLA) portfolio. The portfolio provides evidence that students have achieved learning outcomes that are equivalent to learning outcomes in courses taught at HTC. After completing the course and their portfolio, students submit their portfolio for assessment by faculty assessors with the appropriate subject matter expertise.

MINNESOTA TRANSFER CURRICULUM (MnTC) Minnesota State, comprised of the two and four-year public colleges and universities, developed a common liberal arts general education curriculum known as the Minnesota Transfer Curriculum (MnTC). Completion of a defined 40 credits enables a student to transfer lower-division general education coursework to any Minnesota State institution. MnTC courses fall within ten areas of competency called goals. Students who complete the MnTC are certified in the ten goal areas at the originating institution.

GENERAL EDUCATION Hennepin Technical College offers a wide selection of affordable General Education courses in addition to those that focus on career and hands-on training. HTC provides the same high quality instruction in courses that meet the Minnesota Transfer Curriculum (MnTC) at one of the lowest tuition rates in the state. Sometimes students wonder why they need to take general education courses as a part of their award program. There are several reasons to take General Education courses: ■ Using the skills you will learn in General Education courses will help you work well with others and bring value to your work while making you a valuable asset to your employer. ■ General Education courses have been designed to support your program and will assist you in working with coworkers, vendors, and customers, by teaching critical thinking and the people skills necessary to help with your success. ■ You may complete all 40 credits of your required General Education MnTC courses at HTC for transfer to four-year institutions.

The career fairs are designed to connect students and graduates to employers within specific program areas. However, many employers recruit from across all majors and train college graduates for a variety of careers. You do not have to be ready to apply for a job to attend a career fair. STUDENT LIFE & CAREER DEVELOPMENT Student Engagement & Student Experience Team Student Life offers engagement opportunities designed so you can come when you can and leave when you need to! The Student Life staff organizes these activities along with the Student Experience Team. The Student Experience Team is a group of select students who are dedicated to positively representing Hennepin Technical College as peer mentors and assist in the planning and execution of campus activities and events. The Student Experience Team puts on weekly events throughout each semester. Staff organize larger events such as Disc Golf, What’s Poppin’? Welcome Week, Be Healthy HTC, Grad Madness, and many more!
Student Senate, Clubs & Organizations Student Senate is the official representation of student voices at Hennepin Technical College. All students are encouraged to attend Student Senate meetings. Student Senate meetings are open to every student and are held alternately on Wednesdays at noon (except during breaks and in the summer). Health Programming A 2017 recipient of The White House Healthy Campus, healthy living is an important aspect to campus life. Fitness Center, health insurance education, sexual assault education, and connections to community resources are all part of the focus on healthy living at HTC.
Keys to Success A Leadership for Life Series Communication and professionalism are top leadership skills that employers want to see in HTC grads. The Keys to Success - A Leadership for Life series covers a wide range of topics that will support your growth and success in these areas. Disc Golf Courses Each campus has a unique disc golf course available for student and public use. Maps and rules are available on our website. HTC students are able to check out discs out from the library.

The Student Life and Career Center is located in room F120 on each campus and offers students a place to relax, socialize, grab coffee, or study between classes.
The Centers for Student Achievement provide tutoring to any enrolled student who needs assistance with their coursework and study skills. Technical areas are covered as well as math, writing, and other general education courses.

TRIO Student Support Services TRIO provides support services for students wanting to complete their associate degree with consideration of continuing their studies. The long term goal of TRIO is to assist students in completion of a bachelor’s degree. The TRIO program is a federally funded college opportunity program. Visit the HTC website for more details about the TRIO Student Support Services program.
English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) The ESOL program leads English language learning students to college level in writing, oral communication, and reading for technical programs. Classes include focus on grammar, accent reduction, and basic computer skills. After completing the ESOL program, students can start a technical program or college level general education courses without any additional developmental courses.

BUILDING & LANDSCAPE In the Architectural Technology program, you will develop architectural drafting and design skills using state-of-the art computer stations and industry-standard software tools. You will also produce residential and commercial construction drawings using Computer-Aided Design (CAD), Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology, and 3D rendering. You will focus on energy efficiency and sustainability while learning construction compliance procedures. HVACR training prepares you for residential and commercial air conditioning, heating and refrigeration – from heat/cool rooftop units, high-efficiency electronically controlled forced air furnaces and hydronic boilers to walk-in coolers/freezers and display cases. Landscape and Horticulture provides opportunities to grow while learning the basics of landscape design and construction, greenhouse operations, arboriculture and more. Plumbing Technology provides students with the technical knowledge and skills needed to carry out the wide range of tasks normally performed by a plumber both in a residential and commercial setting. The Public Works program is a unique 16 credit certificate that prepares graduates for work with municipal, county or state-level public works agencies. Woodworking curriculum provides hands-on experience with wood joinery, product development, layout systems, machining techniques, wood finishing, and furniture construction.

BUSINESS & ACCOUNTING Hennepin Technical College’s Business and Accounting program prepares students with the skills they need to move their career to the next level, start a new career, or continue their education toward a baccalaureate degree. HTC accounting and business graduates pursue careers in such diverse specialties as supervision, management, accounting, sales, finance and marketing. The program focuses on how business principles apply to real-world settings. Business and accounting students develop skills today’s employers need including critical thinking, decision-making, problem solving and effective oral and written communication. The Business and Accounting program offers students a variety of certificates, diplomas, A.A.S, and A.S. degrees to fit the goals of most business students. Students can earn degrees in accounting, management, marketing and sales, and entrepreneurship.

EMERGENCY & PUBLIC SERVICE Emergency Medical Services training prepares you to be a vital member of a healthcare team as an EMS Specialist or Emergency Room Technician. Emergency Room Technician certification prepares students to the standards sought by hospital emergency departments and urgent care centers. With training in the Environmental Health and Safety program, you will learn about hazardous materials and wastes, gaining knowledge you will need for employment in emergency response and hazardous materials management. Fire Protection provides a career-ladder educational opportunity beginning with certificates and culminating with an A.A.S. degree in fire science technology. Fire training facilities include a multi-story training tower, two-story burn structure, car fire props and fire training simulators. The Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice Education Center is accredited by the Minnesota Board of Peace Officer Standards and Training. It provides the theory and skills components of the mandated law enforcement curriculum. The Public Works program is a unique 16 credit certificate that prepares graduates for work with municipal, county or state-level public works agencies.

HEALTH The Community Paramedic training program is the first in the state and extends the skills and role of paramedics to serve patients in their communities. The Dental Assistant program prepares students to assist dentists during patient treatments, as well as complete patient dental records. A Health Science (Broad Field) degree prepares students for transfer to four-year health programs. Health Unit Coordinators work in hospitals, extended care facilities, or medical offices to assist nursing staff with non-clinical clerical tasks. Nursing Station Technicians assist nursing staff with hands-on patient care and advanced administrative duties. Medical Assistant students gain critical skills needed to perform clinical, lab and administrative duties. Medical Office prepares students to work in acute care, hospital, outpatient clinic, extended-care, medical insurance office, research or other medical facility. Nursing Assistants/Home Health Aides can begin their careers at HTC with a 75-hour course that prepares them to take the Nursing Assistant state exam. Practical Nursing programs are approved by the MN Board of Nursing. Diploma graduates are eligible to take the NCLEX-PN exam for licensure.

How does the Individualized Studies degree option work? Students construct a degree plan through consultation with HTC faculty and industry representatives. A key component of the degree is a required two-credit planning course. The planning course offers career development theory and resources, contacts, and the skills necessary to design a degree program. HTC faculty will work with you every step of the way to earn an A.S. or an A.A.S. degree in Individualized Studies. What about career opportunities? The career opportunities for this degree are as numerous as the potential individualized degree plans. Each degree plan will focus on a specific career goal. You design the degree. You earn the degree. You will realize the advantages of building a career that is enhanced by a degree truly suited to you as an individual.

INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY The Information Technology (IT) program at Hennepin Technical College (HTC) provides students exceptional training in a degree field that opens up a diverse selection of career opportunities for information technology professionals in network administration, cyber security, database management, IT support, or software development. As businesses and organizations depend more and more on the connecting power of technology, the demand remains high for qualified information technology professionals. Students will benefit from a curriculum that combines the theory and practice of information technology with fundamental business principles. Skilled instructors support students through hands-on coursework designed to develop the analytical and problem-solving skills required to succeed as an IT professional in the real world. HTC offers certificate, diploma, and associate degree programs in information technology that use a blend of on-site and online courses to help you achieve your educational and career goals. You will gain handson experience working on programming and development projects.

MANUFACTURING & ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY Hennepin Technical College is a member of the 360° Manufacturing and Applied Engineering ATE Regional Center of Excellence and the Minnesota Center for Engineering and Manufacturing Excellence. HTC is one of the few colleges that teach a full two-year discipline in Fluid Power Engineering Technology. HTC’s virtual manufacturing lab is equipped with high-tech simulation technologies. The Machine Tool Technology Program is an authorized HAAS training center offering one of just two Swiss-style machining programs at Minnesota State colleges. NIMS certification is available. Automation Robotics Engineering Technology program is the first in Minnesota to become a factory-certified training and education site for the FANUC Robotics Material Handling equipment and software. Welding and Metal Fabrication students benefit from hands on skillbuilding through virtual and online learning outside of class.

MEDIA COMMUNICATIONS The Audio Production program has seven state-of-the-art production studios, each equipped with the industry-standard Pro Tools HD software and hardware. HTC is an AVID Pro Tools Certified training location. Graphic and Web Design is an important part of our visual world. From websites to magazines to brochures to product packaging, a graphic designer plays a role in determining how they look. Students may choose an emphasis in creative, web design or the printing industry. As a Graphic and Web Design student, you will gain the knowledge and hands-on experience that prepares you to present ideas and concepts using the most advanced technology. Interactive Design Video Production (IDVP) students combine creativity and technical skills to prepare for a career in media communications. In the IDVP program, you’ll cover everything from the basic concepts of dynamic visual media to specific skills you’ll need on the job. SERVICE & EDUCATION The HTC Culinary Arts program prepares students for career opportunities in hotels, restaurants, clubs, and the food service industry. Positions available for work are bakers, assistant pastry chefs, kitchen managers, personal chefs, and entry-level management. Train to be a part of a gourmet restaurant by experiencing all stations within the food service industry such as “front of the house” with HTC’s on-campus gourmet dining room. Experience the theoretical side of the business. Learn exactly what it takes to operate a restaurant and succeed. Students who complete the Culinary Arts diploma program are eligible to pursue American Culinary Federation certification.

Students in the HTC Child Development program learn how to plan age appropriate activities that recognize the diversity of children and families while providing a healthy, safe environment. Graduates may seek employment as teachers and child care providers. HTC offers three options for our Child Development students. A 32 credit diploma, a transferrable A.S. degree tailored to ease the transition from 2-year to a 4-year institution, and a 60 credit A.A.S degree. We have articulations with many 4-year institutions, so regardless of which degree you pursue we can help you achieve your goals in the field of Child Development and Early Childhood Education.

TRANSPORTATION The Auto Body Collision Technology lab has 16,000 square feet of space and state-of-the-art equipment used in modern auto body shops. Learn from highly qualified instructors with industry experience to become highly-skilled, using sophisticated diagnostic and repair equipment. The Ford Automotive Student Service Educational Training (ASSET) program is a factory authorized training program that is jointly sponsored by Ford Motor Company, Ford and Lincoln-Mercury Dealers, and HTC. The Ford ASSET program provides internship experience at a sponsoring dealership. HTC puts you on the road to success. The Marine, Motorsport and Outdoor Power Equipment Technology program prepares you to troubleshoot, repair, and overhaul engines and equipment found in the boating, snowmobile, motorcycle, lawn and garden, and industrial engine industries. Medium/Heavy Truck Technology combines college courses in the classroom and skill development through paid internships at truck repair companies.
