Still A Need For Food
Like most emergencies, COVID-19 put individuals, businesses, and organizations to the test of adapting to a new normal. One group that rose to meet the challenge was the Hendricks County Food Pantry Coalition. Established in 2008, the Food Pantry Coalition serves as way to connect and assist the various local food pantries in the county, providing a network to share tips and ask questions. With the increased need from the Covid shutdown of many businesse and social distancing, the food pantries turned to drive-thru distribution and combining some of the smaller locations to be able to handle the increased demand. With the ever-changing Covid situation there is still a need to finds ways to help fight food insecurity in Hendricks County: Donate nonperishable foods: Needed items include canned meat; whole grain cereals, peanut butter and jelly; boxed meals; canned vegetables and fruits. Also needed are hygiene items such as soap, shampoo, toothpaste, feminine hygiene items. Look for healthy foods with low sodium and no sugar added. Host a food drive: Your school, office, organization or place of worship can organize a food drive. Drives can be held year-round and are an important resource for Hendricks County Food Pantries. Hosting a drive is easy, and we will help you through the process. Please e-mail hendrickscountyfoodpantries.com to to register your event and for any help planning. Monetary donations: Monetary donations are a great way to help food pantries. It allows them to buy exactly what they need, often in bulk at lower prices. Breakfast with Santa at Amo Have breakfast and get your picture taken with Santa at the Amo Fire Station on Saturday, December 18, from 8 - 11 a.m. Hosted by the Amo Volunteer Fire Department, the breakfast menu includes pancakes, eggs, bacon, milk, juice, or coffee. Donations are accepted to help a needy families in Clay Township, Amo and the local community. Volunteers from the community and First Baptist Church of Amo will be collecting canned food to donate to the Storehouse Food Pantry. ______________________________________________
Book on Early Schools in Hendricks County
Through the early years of education in Hendricks County there were as many as 181 one- and two-room school houses. School names include Sixty-Cents, Black Rock, North Center, Pin-Hook, Hamrick South and Hamrick West. Gail Tharp has spent several years researching these former educational institutions. Her book, Early Education in Hendricks County, contains information and pictures of the many schools, many still standing, along with an index of names. Gail will be at The Authors Porch, 117 W. Washington, Danville (formerly Speakeasy Books) on Saturday, December 18, between 2 and 4 p.m. Copies of the book are $20. Other books by Gail include Churches of the Past and several children’s books. She also co-authored Images of America - Hendricks County with Phyllis Parsons.

New Distribution Center at Brownsburg Mercury Marine, a
boat engine manufacturer based in Wisconsin, has announced the construction of a new distribution center in Brownsburg. The 512,000 sq. ft. facility is expected to create around 250 new jobs. The distribution center will be located in the Ronald Reagan Logistic Park near I-74 and Ronald Reagan Parkway. Construction is currently underway and anticipated to be complete in the fall of 2022. “We could not be more excited to welcome such an iconic brand as Mercury Marine to Brownsburg,” said Brownsburg Town Council President, Travis Tschaenn. “This distribution center will be the first project in our new Ronald Reagan Logistics Park. We thank Mercury Marine for selecting the Town of Brownsburg and for investing in our community.” __________
Blue Christmas Service at DUMC
Danville United Methodist Church invites you to a Blue Christmas Service beginning at 7pm on the longest night of the year, Tuesday, December 21, 2021. While all are welcomed, it is designed as a service of comfort and help for those who cannot share all the joy and optimism of the Christmas Season due to the loss of loved ones and/or are experiencing grief for any reason. This service will include singing, readings, Scriptures from the Christian tradition, and the lighting of candles. Danville United Methodist Church is located at 820 W. Loan Medical Equipment
Hendricks County Senior Services maintains a limited supply of medical equipment available for loan for residents of Hendricks County as part of the Danville Rotary Club Foundations, Inc’s Durable Medical Equipment Loan program. Equipment is available on a first-come, first-serve basis. There is no charge for borrowing the equipment. Donations are graciously accepted to help offset the cost of maintaining the equipment.
