the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles is amonth eight BMV branches that will temporarily close during the month of October Employees of temporarily closed branches will be reassigned to support nearby locations for the month. It’s News To Us The current home of the Danville Masonic Lodge, 34 East Main Street, was originally a Presbyterian Church. It was acquired by the Masons in 1931.

On Saturday, October 9, 2021, Western Star #26 Masonic Lodge will celebrate 175 years of Free Masonry with a celebration and rededication of the lodge by the Grand Lodge of Indiana. The event will be open to the public. Established in 1846, Western Star #26 was the first Masonic lodge in Hendricks County. There will be a celebration and rededication of the lodge by the Grand Lodge of Indiana. This event is open to the public. There will be a meal immediately after the ceremony. ROBERT “BOB” McLANE HIGGINS, 89, of Danville, passed away in the hospice facility at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis on October 2, 2021. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, October 12, 2021 in Weaver & Randolph Funeral Home Danville, will visitation from noon until time of service. Burial with full military honors will take place in Danville South Cemetery following the service. The wearing of masks is recommended, but optional. Bob was born in Danville, “on the farm,” to the late Harvey Michael and Fannie Elsie (McLane) Higgins, Sr. He graduated from Danville High School, where he played varsity basketball, with the class of 1950. Bob married Gloria C. (English) on April 18, 1953. He let his feelings be known that he loved God, country, family, and the land he walked and worked. Bob was a lifetime farmer, a member of Danville Christian Church, and served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He had a passion for basketball, and enjoyed attending and watching the Indiana Pacers. Bob also enjoyed playing croquet, playing the card game of Rook, as well as square dancing with Gloria and “the gang.” Survivors, including his loving wife of 68 years, Gloria; children, Kevin E. (Denise L.) Higgins of Camby, Gary M. (Sunny K.) Higgins of Huntington Beach, Calif., Debra L. (Danny) Dillon of Danville, daughter-in-law, Mary L. Higgins of Phoenix, Ariz.; 9 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Bob was preceded in death by a son, Randall A. Higgins, two brothers and one sister. HANSHEW, 75, of Indianapolis, passed away on September 29, 2021. She was born on February 24, 1946 in Roanoke, Va., to the late Harold and Thelma Pauley. Donna was the owner of Donna Hanshew Realty for over 10 years. She drove a school bus for 31 years with Decatur Township schools. Donna loved spending time with her family especially her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Norman Hanshew; brothers, Steve and Andy Pauley; sister, Marsha Eland; grandchildren, Natalia VanDam and Alyssa Brooks. Funeral services were Wednesday, October 6, at Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home, Plainfield. Burial followed in Maple Hill Cemetery. ALAN KEITH WARD, 28, of Mulberry, formerly of Danville, passed away at his home Friday afternoon, October 1, 2021. Funeral services were Wednesday, October 6, 2021 at the Whitestone Christian Church, located 7 miles west of Danville on US Highway 36. A cremation followed the service. Allen was born in Columbus, Ohio, and graduated from Danville Community High School with the class of 2014. He had worked on the assembly line at Wabash National Trailer in Lafayette, Indiana. Allen was a member of Whitestone Christian Church and the Crawfordsville, Indiana Order of Demolay. MICHAEL J. WERNKE, 74, of Avon, passed away September 28, 2021. He was a millwright for Allison Transmission for 30 years, retiring in 2009. Michael was a Veteran of the US Army. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #64, VFW Post #908 and Local Union #933. Michael was an avid golfer, hunter and woodworker. Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Roland “Wink” Wernke and Maxine Cammack. He is survived by his wife, Ivy Schauberger Wernke; brother, Rolland “Ron” (Linda) Wernke; step brother, Kenny Hobson, special nieces, Michelle Wernke and Veronica Reece. ELIJAH L. HOSTETLER, age 24, of Clayton, passed away on October 2, 2021 in his residence. He was born in Danville, Ind. on December 20, 1996 to parents Dustin and Brande (Jones) Hostetler. He was a 2015 graduate of Cascade High School where he loved playing football and basketball. Elijah assisted his dad running and operating their farm for several years prior to working at UPS for the past year. He was an avid outdoorsman, loved to fish, hunt mushrooms, shoot guns and could spot a 4-leaf clover from a mile away. He had a way of putting a smile on everyone’s face and making us all laugh. He found peace and solitude being around loved ones and watching sunsets. Elijah had a heart of gold and anyone who loved him holds him dearly in their heart. JOHN R. TAYLOR, 73, of Danville, passed away October 2, 2021. John was born on September 10, 1948 in Shelburn, Indiana to Nellie M. Graves Taylor and the late Clement Holt “Tig” Taylor. J ohn was a veteran of the Army and received his bachelor’s degree from Indiana State University. He was a loan officer and Vice-President for several area banks for many years until his retirement. He was a member of Phi Delta Kappa Fraternity Gamma Theta Chapter, Masonic Lodge, American Legion Post #118, Kiwanis and the Optimist Club. Survivors include his sons, John Taylor II (Beth) of Danville, Eric Taylor (Heidi) of Florida; mother Nellie M. NANCY JO (Watcher) HOWARD of Severna Park, Maryland, passed away on September 28, 2021 at the age of 80. Nancy was the youngest daughter of Henry A. and Lorene C. (Weichel) Wachter, born in Berwyn, Illinois and raised in Glenview, Illinois. Nancy left Glenview in 1959 and attended Butler University where she was a cheerleader and a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education where she went on to teach first grade at Crooked Creek Elementary in Indianapolis. Later in life, Nancy found great pleasure and honor teaching adults in private industry to complete their General Education Development certification. Nancy married John M. Howard Jr. in 1965 and raised their three children: Carrie, Megan, and John, in Danville, Indiana. While living in Danville, Nancy was an active parishioner of St. Mary’s Queen of Peace Catholic Church, teaching Sunday school and confirmation classes. Further, she participated in Tri Kappa (a philanthropic organization), volunteered her time with the Danville Summer Swim Team, and devoted many hours supporting her children in scouts, sports teams, and school events. Nancy moved to Eau Claire, Wisconsin in 2000 where she resided with her parents and sister, Kathryn (Kay) Kennedy for 16 years. While living in Eau Claire, she worked at Xcel Energy and enjoyed time with her great nieces and nephews. Nancy is survived by her three children, Carrie Hatfield (Howard), Megan Allison (Howard), and John M. Howard III, as well as her sister Kay Kennedy. In addition, she is survived by her seven grandchildren: Daisy Hatfield, Grant Hatfield, Quinn Allison, Faith Allison, Connor Howard, Graham Howard, and Ian Howard. She is survived by 7 nieces and nephews as well as 18 great-nieces and nephews. The family wishes to express thanks to the many caregivers who helped Nancy and her family this past year at Assisted Living Well Compassionate Care in Maryland. The family would like to express gratitude to the nurses, social workers, and chaplain from Hospice at the Chesapeake. Nancy is preceded in death by her parents Henry A. (2000) and Lorene C. (Weichel) Wachter in 2010. (Tony) Ribera; a brother, Rodney (Sally) Dodds; and three grandchildren, Riley Ribera, Ryan Garver and Madison Garver. She was preceded in death by her son, Michael Tom. Ann was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and follower of Christ. She loved spending time with her family whenever she could, especially with her grandchildren. Ann was one of their biggest fans, rarely missing a ball game or school performance. Her grandchildren loved and adored her. Ann was a snowbird. She enjoyed vacationing in Florida with her husband during the winter months. In the spring and summer, she loved gardening, finding a good yard sale, and spending time with close friends.
