Meals on Wheels On May 2, 1973, Mrs. Carrie Stanley of Danville became the first recipient of Hendricks County Meals on Wheels, when the trial run was made. The following week, volunteers delivered meals to 10 recipients in Plainfield, Amo, and Danville. Today, Meals on Wheels of Hendricks County is serving a record number Mrs. Lena Kropp helped make the first Meals on Wheels delivof clients and expects this ery in Hendricks County to Mrs. growth to continue. In addition to serving more clients the organization has implemented additional services including a pen pal program, friendly connection calls and outreach programs. “This is a really exciting time for Meals on Wheels,” said Renee Harlor, Senior Program Coordinator. “We are working hard to meet the needs of our community.” This growth has created the need for additional volunteers. There are several different opportunities for those who want to make a difference. Most opportunities require a minimum of two hours a month. Current openings include connection callers, outreach volunteers, meal delivery drivers and meal assemblers. The organization currently serves between 110 – 130 hot meals per day, every Monday through Friday. Meals are delivered by a team of more than 130 volunteers. Temporary Vaccine Clinic At HRH Danville
With COVID cases on the rise, Hendricks Regional Health will open a temporary walk-in vaccine clinic, which will be open Thursday, August 26, 4 to 7 p.m. The clinic is at Hendricks Regional Health Danville Hospital, 1000 E. Main St. (Park at East Entrance). Register at https://www.coronavirus.in.gov/vaccine/ Walk-ins are accepted. The clinic will offer the Pfizer vaccine, which earned full FDA approval on August 23, to any Hendricks Regional Health associate, patient or community member age 12 or older who would like to be vaccinated against COVID-19. Booster shots will be available for high-risk individuals including those who have: • Been receiving active cancer treatment • Received an organ/stem cell transplant and/or are taking medicine to suppress the immune system • Moderate or severe primary immunodeficiency • Advanced or untreated HIV infection • Active treatment with high-dose corticosteroids or other drugs that may suppress your immune response The CDC recommends that booster shots should be the same brand vaccine as received for your first two doses. This clinic is ONLY offering the Pfizer vaccine. If you are unsure of whether you should receive a booster shot, please consult with your primary care provider. We’re In Top 5 Fastest Growing
Hendricks County landed in the top five fastest growing counties in the state according to the 2020 Census. Part of that status is due to being one of the “donut” counties surrounding Indianapolis. Hamilton showed the highest rate, a 26.5 percent increase since 2010, followed by Boone County (25.0 percent), in the middle is Hendricks County with (20.2 percent). Completing the list is Johnson county (15.8 percent) and Hancock County (14.1 percent) ____________.

River Friendly Farmers
Two Hendricks County farms were recognized for their efforts to keep area water sources clean. Zachary and Brianne Lowe and Iron Brothers Farms (Ryan Stroud and Austin Guyer) were recipients of the River Friendly Farmer awards. Since 1999, key conservation and agricultural organizations have sponsored the River Friendly Farmer (RFF) Program. The statewide initiative recognizes farmers, who through good production management practices helps keep Indiana’s rivers, lakes and streams clean. Every year, each county Soil and Water Conservation District may nominate up to two farmers who do an outstanding job of protecting their rivers, lakes and streams through their every day conservation management practices on the farm. Watershed organizations also may nominate farmers for the award by submitting an application to a county SWCD. The awards were presented Wednesday, August 18, during the Indiana State Fair. __________

Keep Your Eyes On the Prize Pies at Old Fashion Days
Are you admired far and wide for your pies? Pick your favorite receipe and enter the Pie Contest at North Salem Old Fashion Days. Only fruit or nut pies are eligible. The filling and crust must be homemade by the exhibitor and in a 8” or 9” disposible pie pan. Entry forms are available at www.nsofd.com. Registration will be from 11 to 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, September 5, at the Bandstand on North Broadway. You do not need to be a resident of North Salem or Hendricks County to enter. Judging will begin promptly at 11:30. Prizes will be awarded for 1st Place ($50); 2nd Place ($30); and 3rd Place ($20). All pies will then be auctioned off to the public following the presentation. Hendricks County Senior Services maintains a limited supply of medical equipment for loan for residents of Hendricks County as part of the Danville Rotary Club Foundations, Inc’s Durable Medical Equipment Loan program. Equipment is available on a first-come, first-serve basis. There is no charge for borrowing the equipment. Donations are graciously accepted to help offset the cost of maintaining the equipment. It’s all fun and games at North Salem’s Old Fashion Days, September 4- 6. Look for the Kids Entertainment area with bounce houses, pony rides and more all three days. On Saturday, September 4, after the Old Fashion Days Parade, watch the little ones put the pedal on during Kiddie Tractor Pulls, starting at 1 p.m., sponsored by Shoffner Farm Equipment. Sunday, September 5, take part in the Corn Hole Tournament at 2 p.m., next to Perillo’s. You could win an official Old Fashion Days Corn Hole set and $100. Monday, September 6, you can run/walk/bike your way to fun. Registration starts at 6:30 a.m. The run/ walk begins at 8 a.m.; the bike ride at 8:30. Got a pet? Bring it to the Pet Parade on Monday, September 6. Registration starts at 9:30 a.m., at the alley next to Town Hall. The parade, sponsored by Specks Pet Supplies, begins at 10 a.m., at the Community Building, and strolls down Pearl Street, where the judges will make their decisions. The famous Old Fashion Days Bed Race takes place on Pearl Street at 2 p.m. Thrill as the bed pushers make their way to the finish line. Learn the big part the tiny bee plays in our food supply at McCloud Nature Park’s 5th Annual Bee Fest, Saturday, August 28, from 1 to 4 p.m. Meet local beekeepers and learn about the life of a bee. Visit McCloud’s Bee House observation hive for a close-up look at these amazing creatures at work. There will be bee crafts to make and bee games to play, as well as vendors with honey and other bee products. Allergy alert: as with any visit to the outdoors, it is possible to come into contact with live bees and/ or other stinging insects. This free event is appropriate for all ages and no advance registration is required. BEVERLY J. BRANSTETTER, 87, of Clayton, passed away at her home, Wednesday, August 18, 2021, with her family at her bedside. A graveside service only took place Monday, August 23, in Clayton Cemetery, where she was laid to rest next to her husband of 53 years, John Henry Branstetter. Beverly was born in Worthington, Ind., to the late Oraul and Helen (Canada) Agan. She married John Henry Branstetter July 19, 1953; he preceded her in death May 12, 2006. Beverly was a wonderful homemaker, taking care of her family in so many loving ways. She extended her tasty cooking abilities to not only Mill Creek School East for 20 years, but also provided wonderful meals at the former Clayton Café as well. A tireless worker, Beverly found time to clean the Clayton Post Office. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Clayton and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Kirkland, Ind. VFW Post. Survivors include her children, John Thomas (Penny) Branstetter of Clayton, Rosetta (Jim) Branham of Camby, Debbie Ehrsam of Salem, Ind., Pam (Robert) Summerlot of Underwood, Ind.; grandchildren, Michael A. JEFFREY KENNETH McDONALD passed peacefully in his home August 15, 2021. He was born June 7, 1961 to Kenny and Marie McDonald (Thompson). He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenny and Marie and his sister Cathy. He leaves behind his two children, Paula (Dane) McFarland and Jeffrey McDonald II. He also leaves behind his younger brother Jody (Janet) McDonald, and his niece Jamie (Jamie) Muensterman and his great niece whom he adored, Grace. He also leaves behind 3 grandchildren who were the light of his life. Xander, Kynadie and the youngest, Lilliana McFarland. Jeffrey was a Navy veteran, serving in two tours including desert storm where he received medals for outstanding courage. After he was retired from the Navy, he worked several factory jobs and worked as a custodian for Danville Community Schools until he retired to help take care of his grandson, Xander. He was a family man, spent much of his time with his kids and his grandkids. He enjoyed kicking back with a beer and enjoying his time with his family. Funeral services were Saturday, August 21, 2021 at the Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home, Greencastle. Interment followed at the Fairview Cemetery, North Salem. CHELSEA LEIGH MURRAY, 29, of Clayton, passed away August 15, 2021. She was born on October 09, 1991 in Las Vegas, Nevada, to Darlena Jo Currie and Michael Paul Murray. Chelsea was an interior trim carpenter for Prime Builders Group, Inc. in Clayton. She loved the outdoors and enjoyed the beach, camping, hiking nature trails, going to lakes and swimming. Chelsea was an avid reader and enjoyed reading novels. She attended St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church in Plainfield. Survivors include her parents, Michael and Andrea Murray of Clayton; grandmother, Sharon Mullikin of Whiteland and her beloved dog, Pharry. Her grandfather, Richard Murray, preceded her in death. Services will be at 1 p.m. on Friday, August 20, 2021 in Hall-Baker Funeral Home, Plainfield, with burial to follow in the Center Valley Cemetery, Clayton. Together they had two children, Rick & Deborah. Clyde owned and operated two Shell Dealerships for 33 years and previously owned three bars and three liquor stores. The greatest joys of his life came when his grandchildren Bridget & Anthony were born. Clyde loved family gatherings and playing with his five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Elizabeth, siblings, JT, LB, HC, Athylene, and Estolene. Survivors include his son, Rick Craghead, Nancy Williams, daughter, Debbie Bell (Mark), granddaughter Bridget Reed (Mike) and grandson, Anthony Bell (Liz). Clyde also is survived by his five beautiful great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews in Louisville, Ky and Owensboro, Ky and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Craighead. RUSSELL DEAN KIRKHAM, 73, of Clayton, passed away surrounded by loving family members. He was born in Indianapolis on June 29, 1948 to the late Frosty and Velma Kirkham. Russell graduated from Cascade High School in 1966. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from Indiana Wesleyan University and received his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. Russell was a retired Chief Master Sergeant for 24 years for the United States Air Force having served in Vietnam. He was very active in church and belonged to the Hazelwood Baptist Church. Russell enjoyed drinking coffee at the local coffee shop. He would talk to anyone and never met a stranger. Russell liked dogs and was very patriotic. He loved spending time with his family. Funeral services were Tuesday, August 24, in the Hazelwood Baptist Church 9838 S. CR 0, Hazelwood. Burial was in Center Valley Cemetery. Sandy worked several years in construction sales and later as an estate manager besides being a homemaker. She loved the outdoors and taking vacations to Florida with her family. PAUL “EDDIE” MACKEY, 75, of Danville, passed away at The Waters of Indianapolis early Sunday morning, August 22, 2021. Per his request, there will be NO services. Eddie was born in Connersville, Ind., January 4, 1946, to the late John A. and Trulla Mae (Dunn) Mackey. He was a hard-working and devoted pipe fitter for 32 years with the NYC, Penn Central, and Conrail Railroad. Eddie retired having served through all the transitions of the railroads. He was an avid collector of train memorabilia. Eddie was a disabled veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the United States Marine Corps. He attended the Clayton Christian Church. Survivors include his loving wife of 55 years, Shirley (Fellows); children David (Amber) Mackey of Greencastle, Paula Zapp of Coatesville, Shannon Chastain of Kokomo; 5 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. KARISA J. BROWN, 27, of Plainfield, passed away August 19, 2021. She was born on November 16, 1993 in Indianapolis to James Barry and Angela Kay (Schober) Brown. Karisa graduated from Plainfield High School in 2012, received her bachelor’s degree in 2016 from the University of Indianapolis and also her doctorate of physical therapy in 2020. She was a member of the Westside Church of the Nazarene. Karisa loved spending time with family, friends, and her church family. She was also a DIY enthusiast and loved to travel, the outdoors, music and movies, and making people smile. AN ORDINANCE OF THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF DANVILLE, INDIANA, ANNEXING TERRITORY TO THE TOWN OF DANVILLE, PLACING THE SAME WITHIN THE CORPORATION BOUNDARIES THEREOF AND MAKING THE SAME A PART OF THE TOWN OF DANVILLE ALLISON & JACQUELINE BIANCHI SUPER-VOLUNTARY ANNEXATION WHEREAS, the Town Council (“Council”) of the Town of Danville, Indiana (“Town” or “Danville”) has received a petition (“Petition”) requesting that certain territory generally located in part of the Northeast Quarter of the Southwest Quarter of Section 3, Township 15 North, Range 1 West, Center Township, Hendricks County, Indiana, as hereinafter described (“Annexation Territory”), be annexed by Danville; and WHEREAS, this Petition has been signed by all (i.e. 100%) of the property owners within the Annexation Territory; and WHEREAS, the Council deems it desirable and in the best interests of the Town to annex the Annexation Territory; and WHEREAS, this Annexation Territory is more commonly known as 2104 East Main Street, Danville, Indiana, and is fully described in the attached legal descriptions (Exhibit A) and illustrated on the attached map (Exhibit B); and WHEREAS, where the legal description attached as Exhibit A describes land this is contiguous to a public right-of-way that has not previously been annexed, the Annexation Territory shall include the contiguous public right-of-way even if it is not described in Exhibit A, except to the extent prohibited by I.C. § 36-4-3-1.5(c); and WHEREAS, where the parcel of property within the Annexation Territory is adjacent to a parcel of property within the existing Town limits, the Annexation Territory boundary shall conform to and match the boundary of the existing Town limits so long as it does not result in adding or removing parcels of property from the Annexation Territory depicted in Exhibit A; and WHEREAS, the Annexation Territory consists of approximately 0.66 acres, and is contiguous to the existing Town limits; and WHEREAS, prior to adoption of this Ordinance, the Council, by resolution, will have adopted a written fiscal plan and definite policy for the provision of services of both a non-capital and capital nature to the Annexation Territory that meets the requirements of I.C. § 36-4-3; and WHEREAS, the terms and conditions of this annexation, including the written fiscal plan, are fairly calculated to make the annexation fair and equitable to property owners and residents of the Annexation Territory and of the Town; and WHEREAS, prior to the final adoption of this Ordinance, the Town will have conducted a public hearing pursuant to proper notice issued as required by law; and WHEREAS, the Council finds that the Annexation pursuant to the terms of this Ordinance is fair and equitable and should be accomplished. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Town Council of the Town of Danville, Indiana, as follows: 1. The above recitals including Exhibit A are incorporated herein by this reference as though fully set forth herein below. 2. In accordance with I.C. § 36-4-3-5.1 and other applicable laws, the Annexation Territory is hereby annexed to the Town and thereby included within its corporate boundaries pursuant to the terms of this Ordinance.
3. The Annexation Territory is assigned to Council District (Ward) No. 3.
4. All prior Ordinances or parts thereof that may be inconsistent with any provision of this Ordinance are hereby superseded. The paragraphs, sentences, words, and Annexation Territory of this Ordinance are separable, and if a court of competent jurisdiction hereof declares any portion of the Ordinance or the Annexation Territory unconstitutional, invalid, or unenforceable for any reason, such declaration shall not affect the remaining portions of the Annexation Territory or this Ordinance. 5. The effective date of this annexation shall be as soon as allowed by law following its adoption, execution, and publication as required by law.
