Benefit Golf Cart Parade

A golf cart parade, a Jeep Ride & Poker Run, and a concert by local musicians - three fun events with a common cause - to commemorate the life of a young man gone too soon. Travis Brayden “Gunnar” Shirven was a 2014 graduate of Danville High School, who was lost to suicide in 2018. For the past four years, his parents, Rick and Shannon Shirven have hosted a benefit Ride for Life Jeep ride in his memory. This year, the Jeep Ride will take place on Sunday, August 22, with registration and check-in at Gary Eakin Community Park in Danville, from 8:30 to 10 a.m. The scenic route includes four fun stops along the way. Return time is 4 p.m. Two events have been added this year, with proceeds benefiting Ellis Park and the Danville Pee Wee Baseball League. On Saturday, August 22, the inaugural Gunshow Golf Cart Parade will have registration from 10-11 a.m. ($20 per cart registration fee) at Gary Eakin Park. The route includes fun stops and return to the park for lunch vendors. Diabetes Support Group Meets At Senior Center

Hendricks County Senior Services is pleased to host their monthly Diabetes Support Group designed specifically for persons with Diabetes and those caring for someone with Diabetes. The support group is sponsored by Hendricks Regional Health and is open to anyone who is affected by Diabetes. This month’s support group is Wednesday, August 25, at 1 p.m. Speaker, Pam Schmidt, RN from the HRH Diabetes Center will lead the group addressing questions and concerns about your diabetes medications and blood sugar testing. The meetings are confidential, free of charge, and reservations are not required. Transportation is available through Senior Services at 317-718-4474. If you would like to eat lunch prior to the meeting, please call the Senior Center at least 24 hours in advance. Suggested donation is $3 for seniors 60 years old or older and their spouses. New participants are always welcome and membership in the Senior Center is not required. The Hendricks County Senior Center is located at 1201 Sycamore Lane in Danville. Armed Robbery Reported

Hendricks County Sheriff’s Deputies are investigagting the report of an armed robbery near Brownsburg. On Monday, August 16, Deputies responded to the report of an armed robbery on CR 650 N, east of CR 1000 E, near Brownsburg. The initial report was that a person was robbed at gunpoint as he pulled over alongside the road for what he believed to be an unmarked police vehicle. Hendricks County Sheriff’s Office Detectives are currently working to gather more information in this investigation. There were no injuries reported in this incident. __________

A chat with Plainfield Fire Territory Cheif Brent Anderson will be the topic at the next Plainfield Community Forum, Tuesday, August 24, at 6:30 p.m. The event takes place at Plainfield Friends Church, 105 S. Enjoy Lunch At The Airport

The annual Hendricks County Aviation Association’s LUNCH AT THE AIRPORT will take place on Saturday, August 21 (rain date August 22). The airport is located east of Danville on CR 300 E, about a mile south of U.S. 36. The open house hours are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Lunch will be served from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. and will include a variety of sandwiches with side dishes, chips, tea or lemonade, and dessert. Cost for adults is $7; age 7-12, $5; under age 7, free. There will be various exhibits and displays, including the Hendricks County Sheriff’s Department, the Danville Fire Department, Mediva helicopter, Vincennes Aviation Technology Center, Hendricks County Symphony, and more. Law Enhances Police Training

On Monday, August 17, Representative Greg Steurerwald watched as Gov. Eric J. Holcomb ceremoniously signed House Bill 1006, authored by Steuerwald, at the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy. The governor, along with Rep. Greg Steuerwald, Rep. Robin Shackleford and other members of the general assembly, touted the bipartisan support and passing of House Enrolled Act 1006. “There were many that said it couldn’t be done but we proved here in the state of Indiana that we can take on tall challenges and emerge on the other side in a much better position and that’s exactly what we did with the enhancements that are going to occur at the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy by passing 1006,” said Gov. Holcomb. “This is just a critically important step and long overdue.” “Today, I am proud to say that HEA 1006, my Law Enhancement bill, was signed into law today,” Steuerwald said in a statement released after the signing. “This law will require Indiana’s law enforcement have the proper training, equipment, and transparency to keep our communities, and our officers safe. Thank you to Governor Eric Holcomb and all the law enforcement leadership that helped us along the way to better the lives of Hoosiers.” The bill allocates $70 million to update facilities at the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy, which trains a majority of the police in the state. The bill requires the ILEA training board to establish mandatory training in de-escalation as part of the use-of-force training, as well as part of pre-basic training, mandatory in-service training, and executive training. Gov. Makes Appointments

The following Hendricks County residnets were appointed to various boards and commissions by Gov. Eric Holcomb: Mike Hampton, Avon, directory of regulatory affairs for UnitedHealthcare and David Wilmot, Brownsburg, chief medical officer for LTS and CEO of Premier Medical Consulting, LLC, were appointed to the All Payer Claims Database Advisory Board. Both will serve until June 30, 2023. __________

Recycling District Meeting

The Hendricks County Recycling District Board of Directors will meet at 7:00 a.m. on August 24, 2021, in the Commissioners Meeting Room at the Hendricks County Government Center located at 355 S. The bill specifies that a law enforcement officer who turns off a body-worn camera with intent to conceal a criminal act commits a Class A misdemeanor. Under the act, an agency hiring a law enforcement office will be required to request the employment record from the officer’s previous employment agency, and provides immunity for disclosure of employment records. Along the way, the bill has had the support of law enforcement groups as well as the Indiana Black Legislative Caucus and the NAACP. It had the backing of state Fraternal Order of Police, the Indiana Association of Chiefs of Police and Indiana Sheriff’s Association, and the Indiana Public Defender Council.

Only 2 Tox-Away Days Left For 2021

Hendricks Recycling District hosts five Tox-Away Days in 2021. All Household Hazardous Waste (chemicals, auto fluids, fluorescent bulbs, rechargeable batteries, pesticides, herbicides, etc.) is accepted from households free of charge. Fees are charged for the recycling of televisions, appliances and tires (over a certain number). Only residents of Hendricks County are allowed to utilize the District’s Tox-Away Day events. Tox-Away Days are open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The remaining 2021 Tox-Away dates and locations are: • Saturday, August 28, Hendricks County Fairgrounds, 1900 E. Main, Danville. • Saturday, October 9, Plainfield Middle School, 985 Longfellow Ln., Plainfield. When you arrive at a Tox-Away event, stay in your vehicle. Volunteers will unload everything for you. Please remember that latex paint should not be brought to Tox-Away Day for disposal. Since it is water-based, it is safe to dispose of with normal household trash once it’s been solidified.
