Dancing with the Stars By Deanna Hindsley

“Dancing with the Hendricks County Stars” 2021 is almost here! This year’s event will be on Saturday, August 21 at the Hendricks County Fairgrounds Expo Hall. If you were at the 4-H County Fair in July, you know how that Expo Hall looks when filled with vendors. Imagine that transformed into a ballroom! Our 2021 dancers are doubly excited to perform, since they trained at Arthur Murray Dance Center for this in 2020, only to have that taken away just three weeks before the event due to the pandemic. So, now, with even more training, they are ready for this wonderful event - and aren’t we all ready for something like this? “Dancing with the Hendricks County Stars” has been called by many, “the most fun fundraiser in the county”. Reservations include dinner catered by The Coachman, open dancing, a wine pull, and a great silent auction with a variety of offerings. Former dancers will take a bow as we thank them for their past participation. Just go to the Hendricks County Museum website, www.hendrickscountymuseum.org. Then scroll down and click on “Click here to buy tickets”. There, you can buy individual tickets or a whole table for your friends and family. No printed tickets are issued, as your name will be at the registration desk when you arrive. We are also now adding a virtual ticket. If you are unable to attend in person, you can buy a ticket for $20 and view from home. Don’t miss out on this evening of dance entertainment, open dancing for those who love that, great food catered by The Coachman. There will also be Silent Auction, beginning online on Wednesday, August 18, full of beautiful and fun items! And, it’s a great way to support the history and story of your county! ______________________________________________

Hendricks County Sheriff Brett Clark, the President of the Indiana Sheriffs’ Association, invited Sheriffs and their staff from all over Indiana to tour the construction site of the new Hendricks County Jail this past Sunday. According to Sheriff Clark, “There are at least 50 Indiana counties represented today by their Sheriffs and staff.” This was part of the Indiana Sheriffs’ Association’s 91st annual “Summer Conference” where members can get together for a few days of recreation, training and networking. Garmong Construction Services, general contractor in charge of getting the new jail built, provided good food from What’s Cooking and gave a tour of the facility in its current state. Sheriff Clark has been involved with the design of the jail and has been onsite so much that he personally gave the tour. He emphasized how new technology will give his staff more control over the cell blocks, give the inmates better living conditions and provide more safety for both inmates and staff. Regarding the size of the new facility, he explained how the jail could be expanded easily but made clear that the current layout should serve the needs of Hendricks County for the next 30-50 years. Sheriff Clark added, “If we are full the day we open, then we didn’t do a good job planning for our future.” Next week: A look at some of the new and unique features of the new Hendricks County Jail.
