Meals on Wheels Meals on Wheels of Hendricks County has plans for a busy summer, and they are seeking volunteers to lend a hand. “We know there are people who would benefit from our services who don’t know about us or who are unsure how to get started, and we need to reach them.” said Renee Harlor, Senior Program Coordinator for Meals on Wheels. The organization has formed a community outreach team, made up of volunteers with the goal of doing just that, reaching the community. This team will set up informational booths at several events in Hendricks County. “We will be at Farmer’s Markets and festivals, places where we can reach large groups of people, some of who may need our services and some who may know of someone who need our services.” said Harlor. If you are interested in volunteering you can visit their website, HCMealsonWheels.org, the site lists all volunteer needs and will give you the steps to get started. For as little as two hours a month Meals on Wheels volunteers can make a huge difference. Meals on Wheels delivers a nutritious, hot meal to homebound residents of Hendricks County. The organization serves between 100 – 130 hot meals per day, every Monday through Friday. Meals are delivered by a team of more than 120 volunteers. In addition to providing nutritious meals the organization provides a wellness check, complimentary pet food and human connection. If you would like more information about becoming a client or volunteer, you can visit their website or call Renee Harlor at 317-745-3469. ______________________________________________

50¢ Published Weekly in Danville, Indiana

“We are glad to have Field Day after missing last year because of Covid-19,” said John Farmer of Avon, president of the Hendricks County Amateur Radio Society (HCARS). In previous years, more than 60 local amateur radio operators came to Field Day to set up temporary antennas and power supplies, and get on the air, along with more than 40,000 hams across North America. Field Day is also a social event for area hams, Farmer said, and a time when elected and other officials from county agencies visit and continue to learn how ham radio works when other communication modes fail in an emergency. Field Day’s 24 hours of on-air operation begin at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 26, at the Fairgrounds grandstand. Look for yellow “Ham Radio” signs for access. To avoid traffic from Ribfest on Saturday afternoon and evening, visitors are encouraged to come on Sunday before 1:30 p.m., with entry at Gate 4 on County Road 200 East. For more information, visit HCARS on Facebook beginning this Thursday.
