PittsboroHonors Ash

The Town of Pittsboro will honor an employee, volunteer, and community leader on Wednesday, June 2, with a ribbon-cutting for Ash Avenue, named for the late Linda Ash, who passed away on September 24, 2020.

Linda helped organize school activities, was involved in community activities, including Kiwanis, Parent Pride Group and the soccer program. Linda was active in PTA and had a knack for convincing people to get involved.

She volunteered to help maintain the elementary school nature center andserved the Pittsboro Park Board with pride. As administrator for the PittsboroPolice Department and employee to the Town of Pittsboro, Linda was the event coordinator for such events as National Night Out and Christmas in the Park.

As a Master Gardener, Linda wanted people to have access to locally grown fresh food and helped found the Pittsboro Farmers Market, which marks its 11th year.

The ribbon cutting ceremony will be at the Police Department and Town Hall at 4:30 p.m.

Memorial Day

A tradition started in memory of Civil War soldiers will continue Monday, May 31, when members of American Legion Post 118 will visit local cemeteries and the Court House lawn to perform ceremonies to honor the fallen of all wars.

Salute To Fallen Comrades

American Legion Post 118 will honor departed comrades by visiting the following cemeteries and the Court House square in Danville on May 31. At each location, there will be a brief ceremony, followed by the traditional rifle volley and sounding of Taps. Citizens of all ages are invited to attend and participate in honoring our veterans.

Members of American Legion Post 118 at Danville will carry on a solumn tradition when they conduct Memorial Day exercises at local cemeteries and the Court House lawn on Monday, May 27. The tradition The public is invited to attend any or all of these ceremonies.

On Monday, Memorial Day, May 31, the American flag is to be displayed at half-staff from sunrise until noon, and then elevated to full staff from noon to sunset. For more information, contact American Legion Post 118 at 745-4736.

HCSS Provides Transportation For Seniors

Hendricks County Senior Services provides transportation services to anyone, 60 or older, needing a ride within Hendricks County. Transportation is provided for daily necessities, like medical appointments, grocery shopping, legal, social service, financial business, nutrition sites, and other life-essential service destinations. This service is provided on a donation basis.

Transportation services are provided by properly licensed staff who receive regular appropriate training. We are committed to the safe operation and maintenance of our vehicles, including the safe boarding and unloading of passengers.

Appointments are made on a first come/first servedbasis for door-to-door transportation (including wheelchair transport, portable oxygen, attendants, and service animals) for destinations in Hendricks County.

Transportation is available five days a week during office hours (6 a.m. to 6 p.m.). Service is not available on holidays or when weather is inclement.

To make an appointment call 317-718-4474. It is suggested that you call as far in advance as possible.

Amo Jam Is Back!

The Amo Jam resumes every Tuesday evening, 6-8:30 p.m., in the Amo Community Building.

Musicians are invited to this open mic / impromptu session. Bring your own musical instrument or voice.

Can’t play an instrument or sing? Just come, sit back and listen!

Donations accepted, but not required, to help offset cost of building rental and coffee. Feel free to bring some edible treats as well!

LHC Hosts Golf Outing

Registration is open for Leadership Hendricks County’s 25th Annual Golf Outing on Thursday, July 15, at Deer Creek Golf Club located at 7143 St. Road 39 in Clayton.

Enjoy a day of scramble-format golf, and county-wide camaraderie at lunch, dinner and on the links.

Registration and lunch begin at 11 a.m. Florida Scramble shotgun start at noon. Dinner and awards at 5 p.m.

Entry fees are $400 for a team of four golfers, $100 per individual golfer, and includes cart and green fees, driving range, beverages, lunch, and dinner. Non-golfers may register at $25 per person for the dinner and awards program only.

There is no rain date. If the golf outing is cancelled, registrants are encouraged to come for lunch, networking, and raffle at 11:45 a.m.

HCHS Pet Food Pantry

Hendricks Humane’s Pet Food Pantry is still operating. You don’t have to be an existing Pet Food Pantry recipient to request pet food - just call 317-745- 3338, answer some simpleinformational questions, and you can receive dog or cat food (& litter) as available. Arrangements will be made for pickup.

The Hendricks Humane Pet Food Pantry is part of the County Food Pantry Coalition, and also participates in three Gleaners Mobile Food Pantry distributions.

Improve Your Mood Support Group

Improve Your Mood Support Group meetings every Tuesday from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Hendricks County Senior Center. Members have been gathering to learn about mindfulness and other coping techniques for symptoms of depression and anxiety.

The Improve Your Mood Support Group is offered at no cost to anyone 25 years of age or older wishing to participate. No reservations are required to attend.

The group is facilitated by Sharon Dora Samsell, Coordinator of Bereavement and Community Support Groups for Hendricks Regional Health.

“The group focuses on sharing situations and processing emotions, then devoting time to a specific mood enhancement activity or skill that they can put into practice when away from their group” states Sharon.

Transportation is available through Senior Services at 317-718-4474. If you would like to join us for lunch before the meeting, please call the Senior Center at least 24 hours in advance. Suggested donation is $3 for seniors 60 years old or older and their spouses.

There will be a VeteransMemorial Service at Brownsburg, Saturday, May 29, at 10 a.m., at Brownsburg Cemetery.

Summer Fun Runs Begin

The 2021 Summer Fun Run Series, hosted by The Parks Foundation of Indiana and presented by Hendricks Regional Health begins May 26 - June 1, at McCloud Nature Park.

Children’s Ballet Spring Showcase

Upper level students of The Children’s Ballet will present a spring showcase at Ellis Park Amphitheater in Danville on Friday, June 4 at 7 p.m., and will feature senior student, Lilly South.

While the school’s signature spring performance isn’t possible this year, students have been working hard all season on pieces to present to the community. The showcase is free and open to the public, though donations are appreciated.

Bring a chair and enjoy an evening of ballet!
