Indiana Lyons’ fans don’t have to see his face to recognize Dillon Ware making one of his emphatic dunks. Ware has been named an ABA All-Star for the 2021-22 season.
Indiana Lyons forward Dillon Ware has been named to the American Basketball Association (ABA) 2nd Team West All-Stars for the 2021-22 season. Ware is a 2020 graduate of Danville Community High School. Ware led the Danville-based Indiana Lyons with 439 points, averaging over 23 points per game this season. He ranked second on the team in both blocks (18) and rebounds (127), averaging 7.5 boards per game. His 67 assists, nearly 4 per game, were good for third on the Lyons. “Dillon is a great young man on and off the court, and I’m beyond blessed to have the opportunity to coach him,” said Lyons head coach Jamarr Keglar. “I’m elated that the league is beginning to see, recognize, and appreciate him the way I do – as one of the best. Only up from here!” The son of Chadd Ware and Vanessa Mitchell, this is Dillon’s second season with the Indiana Lyons after playing basketball at DCHS and for a season at IU Kokomo. He is well-known among Lyons fans for his frequent and emphatic dunks during games. Through his ABA All-Star selection, Ware has been identified as one of the top 20 – or top 1% – of all players in the league. Ware was the only player in the ABA Midwest Region to be selected as a first- or second-team All-Star. The Lyons finished the 2021-22 season as finalists in the Midwest Region Tournament Championship Game and posted a 19-8 overall record, 15-2 at home. They were ranked No. 20 in the ABA. The Lyons play their home games at Bosstick Gym, 49 N. Wayne Street in Danville, affectionately known as the Lyons Den. Gardening for All Ages, the Hendricks County Master Gardeners’ annual spring event takes place Saturday, April 23, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Hendricks County Fairgrounds. MARY E. LUHMAN, 87, of Clayton, passed away on April 2, 2022 at the Meadow Lakes Nursing Home in Mooresville. A visitation will be held from 1 - 3 p.m. on Friday, April 8, 2022 in Weaver & Randolph Funeral Home Clayton. A private family graveside will follow in the Clayton Cemetery. The wearing of masks is recommended, but not required. Mary was born April 8, 1934, and was one of 13 children. She graduated from Shortridge High School with the class of 1952. Mary married Kenneth K. Luhman, Aug. 29, 1953, he preceded her in death May 9, 2014. Mary was a longtime member of Bartlett Chapel U.M. Church in Avon. She enjoyed bowling and loved tending to her flower garden. Survivors include her daughter, Kathy (Tom) Rembold of Clayton, son-in-law, John Clayton of Dublin, IN, 2 grandchildren, Westley Rembold and Ashley Rembold. Mary was preceded in death by her daughter, Ellen “El” Clayton. At the families request, memorial contributions may be made in Mary’s name to either the Indianapolis Humane Society or the Hendricks County Animal Shelter. ________________________ JOHN BLACKMORE, 69, of Avon, passed away on April 4, 2022. JAMES “JIM” GILLON, 78, of Lebanon, died Monday, March 28, 2022, at IU Health North Hospital in Carmel. Jim was the son of Henry and Ruth Downs Gillon. He graduated from Colfax High School in 1961. Jim served with the US Army during the Vietnam War. In 1968, he married Linda Merritt in Lizton. Jim retired from Kroger Company after many years. He was a flea marketer since the 80’s and enjoyed selling, and meeting and making many friends over the years. He liked working in the yard, gardening, and enjoyed sitting on the deck watching nature. Jim was a freelance writer and photographer, and many years ago volunteered at the Indianapolis Zoo. He photographed and interviewed several racecar drivers, such as Darrell Waltrip and Mario Andretti. Several of his articles were published regarding the Mail Pouch Barns and the Round Barns in Indiana. Jim was known in the neighborhood for his walks with his Rottweiler. In addition to his wife, Linda, survivors include daughter, Dawn; grandchildren, Jenna and Jared; family friend, Kyle Myers; and cousins, Ruthann Chesney and Shawn Chesney. SCHROCK, 84, Brownsburg, passed away March 28, 2022. A member of Faith Baptist Church, Arlene loved taking photos and making picture albums. She was very outgoing and friendly and loved taking care of babies and infants. She was preceded in death by her parents, Willis and Lois Roberts, and an infant daughter, Julia. Arlene is survived by her husband, Lloyd Schrock; sons, Greg (Dena) Schrock, Brent (Amy) Schrock and Todd (Mary) Schrock; five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. JAMES ROBERT BARNETTE, 81, of Pittsboro, peacefully passed away on March 29, 2022, with his loving family by his side. James Robert was born on May 5, 1940, in Kingsport, Tennessee to James Henry and Lona Viola (Harrison) Barnette. He was a jack-of-alltrades and a NASCAR-loving car enthusiast who enjoyed working on vehicles both in his own garage and in his career as a skilled Millwright for Chevrolet. He was also a Pittsboro Baptist Church member and loved his family dearly. In addition to his parents, James Robert was preceded in death by his sister, Shirley Barnette Morelock. He is survived by his beloved wife of 41 years, Debra (Debbie) Barnette; brother, Harold (wife Jackie) Barnette; his children, Amy (husband Mike) Bramblett and James H. Barnette; his grandchildren, Katelyn (husband Ryan) Fruchtnicht, Courtney Chandler (significant other T.J. Schrage), Kira Bramblett, Korbin Bramblett, Georgia Barnette, and Jordan Stacy; and his great-grandchildren, Kyndall, Liam, Kynzley, Paislee, and Kamdyn. LORETTA PRICE, 83, of Plainfield, passed away March 27, 2022. She was born August 7, 1938 to the late Roy and Ruth (Harrell) Pyle in Crofton, Ky. Loretta was a homemaker and often helped alongside her husband with many business endeavors throughout their 60 years of marriage. She loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren and loved spending time with them. Loretta loved to fish and enjoyed catching them for their yearly fish fry. Her cooking was second to none and her collection of recipes is cherished by her children and grandchildren, especially her rolls and famous peanut butter pie. Loretta wintered in Florida alongside her husband for 31 years where they had many friends and made wonderful memories. Loretta is survived by her husband, Emory Price; three sons, Jack W. (Sandra) Myers, Charles R. (Patsy) Myers and Daniel E. (Mona) Price; a daughter, Lynn G. Calvert; 21 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and a great-great grandchild; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Gary Pyle and a sister, Elaine Durham. Funeral services were Tuesday, April 5, in the ampton-Gentry Funeral Home, Plainfield. Benjamin was the son of Tim and Vicki Smith. In addition to his parents, Benjamin is also survived by his sister Becca Brown (husband Nathan); grandparents John and Nancy Freese, grandmother Ruth Smith, and a full family of aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Brownsburg and attended WALLS day program in Zionsville. Benjamin had a wonderful life full of his simple pleasures. He loved music, food, rough rides in his wheelchair, and famously being “loud and proud.” He loved his family and friends with a passion. His smile was famous, stopping people in their tracks and lighting up the room. He could lift your spirits like none other. Benjamin’s Celebration of Life took place Saturday, April 2, at Messiah Lutheran Church in Brownsburg. Benjamin was a truly full and vibrant soul. SHIRLEY A. JOHNSON, age 75, passed away at home surrounded by her family on March 30, 2022. She was born March 26, 1947 to parents George and Audry (Keck) Thompson. Shirley loved to go to Florida and enjoyed traveling in general. She loved to walk in the outdoors and spend time in nature. She was very proud to have worked the Indy 500. Shirley is survived by her sons Michael (Julie) Johnson and Jamie Johnson; grandchildren Carissa Johnson, Caitlen Johnson, Camryn (Braden) Byers, Cody Johnson, Tyler Rader, and Amber Rader; great grandchildren Brennen Cox, Cayden Cox, Waylen Johnson, Cash Byers, Aubree Patton, and soon-to-be William Johnson; sisters Jan Duncan and Geannie; brother Darrel (Toodie) Thompson; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents. Arrangements have been entrusted to Bousley Funeral Home. He was surrounded by those who loved him. He was born the third in line to Marvin and Martha Burger on December 29, 1958 in Goshen, Ind. After graduating from Goshen High School in 1977, he attended A&P School in Broomfield, Colo. His love of aviation carried him through a multi-faceted career in the field, beginning as an airplane mechanic for Combs Gates and most recently, sharing his passion, and jokes, with students as an adjunct professor at Vincennes University Aviation Technology Center. With the spare time he wasn’t using to tinker in his shop or find new treasures at garage sales or Goodwill Outlet, he volunteered on the Clayton Liberty Township Public Library board and Sheltering Wings. To the world, he was a great man. To his kids, he was the greatest man. Dan’s proudest accomplishment was the success of his three children. He spoke often about how much pleasure it gave him that his children grew up to become productive members of society. Dan is survived by his kids, Nick Burger of Denver, Carly Burger of Plainfield, and Kristen Burger of Indianapolis; his mother, Martha (Simmons) Burger; brother, Steve Burger, sister, Greta (Marc Forbes) Burger; former wife, Cathy (Fettig) Burger, and a special friend. ALLAN RAY SCOTT, 78, of Plainfield, passed away Saturday, April 2, 2022. He was born October 24, 1943 in Clinton, Indiana to his parents, Ray and Betty (Davis) Scott, where he spent his childhood. He married Roberta “Bobbi” (Gagliardi) Scott on October 8th, 2005. He was a resident of Indianapolis area for most of his life and resided in Plainfield for the last 18 years. Allan is survived by his wife, Bobbi (Chalkley) Gagliardi Scott of Plainfield; one son, Mark Scott of Russiaville; one daughter, Melissa (Tracy) Bilbrey; three step children: Jeffrey (Jenay) Chalkley, Joel Chalkley, and Jacob (Laura) Chalkley; and one brother, David Scott. Allan is preceded in death by both of his parents; his first wife, Jamia Scott; and his son, Matthew Rea Scott. Allan was a 1961 graduate of New Palestine High School. He was a Driver for NAPA in Indianapolis for several years and retired in 2015. Allan was Past President of USAC. He enjoyed racing, wood working, and painting. Each bid must be for all of the Bonds and must state the rate of interest which each maturity of the Bonds is to bear, stated in multiples of 1/8th, 1/20th or 1/100th of 1%. The maximum interest rate of the Bonds shall not exceed 5.0% per annum. All Bonds maturing on the same date shall bear the same rate. No bid for less than 99.0% of the face value of the Bonds will be considered. The Bonds will be awarded to the lowest responsible and responsive bidder who has submitted a bid in accordance herewith. The Purchaser will be the one who offers the lowest net interest cost to the School Corporation, to be determined by computing the total interest on all of the Bonds to their maturities based upon the schedule provided by the School Corporation prior to the sale and deducting therefrom the premium bid, if any, and adding thereto the discount bid, if any. No conditional bids will be considered. The right is reserved to reject any and all bids. If an acceptable bid is not received for the Bonds on the date of sale hereinbefore fixed, the sale may be continued from day to day thereafter without further advertisement, during which time no bid which provides a higher net interest cost to the Corporation than the best bid received at the time of the advertised sale will be considered. A good faith deposit (“Deposit”) in the form of cash, wire transfer or certified or cashier’s check in the amount of 1% of the par amount of the Bonds, payable to the order of the Corporation, is required to be submitted by the Purchaser not later than 3:30 p.m. (Indianapolis Time) on the next business day following the award. If such Deposit is not received by that time, the School Corporation may reject the bid. No interest on the Deposit will accrue to the Purchaser. The Deposit will be applied to the purchase price of the Bonds. In the event the Purchaser fails to honor its accepted bid, the Deposit will be retained by the School Corporation as liquidated damages. The Purchaser shall make payment for such Bonds and accept delivery thereof within five days after being notified that the Bonds are ready for delivery, at such place in the City of Indianapolis, Indiana, as the Purchaser may designate, or at such other location mutually agreed to by the School Corporation and the Purchaser. The Bonds will be ready for delivery within 45 days after the date of sale. If the School Corporation fails to have the Bonds ready for delivery prior to the close of banking hours on the forty fifth day after the date of sale, the Purchaser may secure the release of the bid upon request in writing, filed with the School Corporation. The Purchaser is expected to apply to a securities depository registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (“SEC”) to make such Bonds depository eligible. If the Bonds are reoffered, at the time of delivery of the Bonds to the Purchaser, the Purchaser will be required to certify to the School Corporation the initial reoffering price to the public of a substantial amount of each maturity of the Bonds. All provisions of the bid form and Preliminary Official Statement (as hereinafter defined) are incorporated herein. As set forth in the Preliminary Official Statement, the Purchaser agrees by submission of their bid to assist the School Corporation in establishing the issue price of the Bonds under the terms outlined therein and shall execute and deliver to the School Corporation at closing an “issue price” certificate, together with the supporting pricing wires or equivalent communications, with such modifications as may be appropriate or necessary, in the reasonable judgment of the Purchaser, the School Corporation and Ice Miller LLP (“Bond Counsel”). Bidders must comply with the rules of PARITY® (the “Rules”) in addition to requirements of this Notice. To the extent there is a conflict between the Rules and this Notice, this Notice shall control. Bidders may change and submit bids as many times as they wish during the sale, but they may not withdraw a submitted bid. The last bid submitted by a bidder prior to the deadline for the receipt of bids will be compared to all other final bids to determine the winning bid. During the sale, no bidder will see any other bidder’s bid, nor will they see the status of their bid relative to other bids (e.g., whether their bid is a leading bid). I t is anticipated that CUSIP identification numbers will be printed on the Bonds, but neither the failure to print such numbers on any Bond nor any error with respect thereto shall constitute cause for failure or refusal by the successful bidder therefor to accept delivery of and pay for the Bonds in accordance with the terms of its proposal. No CUSIP identification number shall be deemed to be a part of any Bond or a part of the contract evidenced thereby and no liability shall hereafter attach to the School Corporation or any of its officers or agents because of or on account of such numbers. All expenses in relation to the printing of CUSIP identification numbers on the Bonds shall be paid for by the School Corporation; provided, however, that the CUSIP Service Bureau charge for the assignment of said numbers shall be the responsibility of and shall be paid for by the Purchaser. The Purchaser will also be responsible for any other fees or expenses it incurs in connection with the resale of the Bonds. The approving opinion of Bond Counsel, together with a transcript of the proceedings relating to the issuance of the Bonds and closing papers in the usual form showing no litigation questioning the validity of the Bonds, will be furnished to the successful bidder at the expense of the School Corporation. The Bonds are being issued for the purpose of renovation of and improvements to school facilities, including HVAC improvements, equipment, vehicles, technology and site improvements, and will be direct obligations of the School Corporation payable out of ad valorem taxes to be collected on the taxable property within the School Corporation; however, the School Corporation’s collection of the levy may be limited by operation of I.C. 6 1.1 20.6, which provides taxpayers with tax credits for property taxes attributable to different classes of property in an amount that exceeds certain percentages of the gross assessed value of that property. The School Corporation is required by law to fully fund the payment of debt service on the Bonds in an amount sufficient to pay the debt service, regardless of any reduction in property tax collections due to the application of such tax credits. The School Corporation may not be able to levy or collect additional property taxes to make up this shortfall. The School Corporation is a school corporation organized pursuant to the provisions of I.C. 20 23; the Bonds will not be “private activity bonds” as defined in Section 141 of the Code. The School Corporation is conducting this sale pursuant to Indiana Code § 5-1-11-1(2) and is using a competitive process outlined in this notice for the purpose of selecting the Purchaser to whom it will sell its Bonds pursuant to the terms in this notice. The Bonds constitute an indebtedness only of the School Corporation. In the opinion of Bond Counsel, under the existing federal statutes, decisions, regulations and rulings, the interest on the Bonds is exempt from all income taxation in Indiana. In the opinion of Bond Counsel, under the existing federal statutes, decisions, regulations and rulings, the interest on the Bonds is excludable from gross income for purposes of federal income taxation. The School Corporation has prepared a Preliminary Official Statement (the “Preliminary Official Statement”) relating to the Bonds which it has deemed nearly final.
