We have maps, guides and leaflets on the many beaches and places to visit in Cornwall, so come and visit us in Reception. EVERYTHING’S HERE FOR YOU Put your feet up, relax, and take a few minutes to find out more about the facilities around the park. The Oasis Fun Pools Complex is probably where most of our guests spend their time, especially with the children! With three sensational waterslides in the indoor pools, it’s the fun place to be when the weather is less favourable*. The outdoor pools are a must to cool down in on hot days and the pool terrace is a great place to relax. Sports and Games field - take a look at our large games field for organised games, a kick about with a ball or a game of pitch and putt. Located through the gate past Laurel Field, this is where you’ll find various extra activities like Segway & Archery** and other events as they become available throughout the season. Play areas and Amusements - the Soft Play***, which is located on the way to The Venue, is an indoor soft play facility for the under 6s and there are lots of other indoor amusements including arcade games and Bowlingo* to keep everyone occupied for hours. Children can burn off that holiday energy with our fantastic outdoor children’s
playground and amazing traversing wall for little adventurers. Scooter and Skate park - this amazing facility is for children and young teenagers. It will keep them happily skateboarding and scootering, in a safe and exciting environment, all day! Family activities - we know that if the kids are happy you will be too - so check out the big blue notice board outside The Venue for details of the various events taking place on the park and don’t miss meeting Henry or Henrietta at breakfast, in the evening and on the free train rides around the park. Have a go on our outdoor fitness equipment or try some of our new for 2016 activities**. The Venue - the highlight of the holiday for many of our guests who are looking for live on-stage evening entertainment, bingo and lots more. Once the sun’s gone down get ready for an evening of brilliant entertainment. There’s masses to enjoy for all ages from early evening children’s activities with Henry and Henrietta Hippo to prize Bingo and family games, to late evening entertainment with the Hendra Entz Crew and live on-stage music and variety acts! The Launderette Essential for making your holiday chores as hassle-free as possible, especially for families with small children and those who are touring with minimal luggage. Here you can do a full wash and dry, and even iron everything too. Open until late, and £4 (4 x £1 coins are required), for one wash, with washing powder dispensed; it is £1 for 15 minutes in the tumble dryer, and 20p for 5 minutes ironing. At Hendra we know how important it is to keep youngsters of all ages amused and entertained, so there really is something here for everyone! Tiny tots will enjoy the play area in the Soft Play room**, the Pirate’s ship and the Play Park next to the Laundrette, and Toddler Splash Time* in the Oasis pool Older children will spend hours in our Skate & Scooter Park and on the Traversing Wall, or learning to be Junior Musketeers* or a Rookie Lifeguard*. They can get a glimpse into what it’s like to survive in the wilderness with Hendra’s Bush Survival, where they learn how to make a
fire, a shelter and survive in the wild! Teenagers and the rest of the family will have fun trying new things such as Archery* and Segway Tours*, Zorb Games*, Scuba Diving*, Panna Soccer* or Hoverball Archery*. where wetter is better whatever the weather The biggest indoor fun pools complex in the South West is right here on site! Just a short walk from your caravan or pitch and open from 10am – 6pm every day. (Outdoor pool opening times vary depending on weather conditions). Everyone can have safe and splashy fun whatever the weather - you’ll never want to get out of the indoor pools! Three water flumes, the fast and furious high speed aqua whizz flume, the wet and wild 265ft super flume and the gentle fun slide, plus river rapids, a geyser, waterfall and fountains, you can’t get any wetter! For those who prefer not to get wet there are lots of loungers and deckchairs to relax on whilst the family enjoy themselves! Indoors or out, rain or shine… the outdoor pool is a super place to cool off when it’s hot, to sunbathe or just relax with family and friends! The outdoor pool area is where you’ll find lots of extra activities in school holiday periods too.

Information For safety reasons use of the flumes and rapids is restricted to competent swimmers and those over 1 metre in height. Use of the River Rapid Ride is restricted to competent swimmers and those over 1.2 metres in height. Swimmers under 9 years must be supervised by an adult in the water at a ratio of 1 adult to 2 children. Nonswimmers must be accompanied in the water at a ratio of 1 adult swimmer to 2 non-swimmers. All children under 9 years, regardless of swimming ability, must be accompanied by an adult in the water at a ratio of 1 adult to 2 children. The pools have a capacity limit for the health and safety of pool users and during peak season and busy times we may restrict entry to Hendra Holiday Park guests only and/or operate swimming sessions of 1 hour 30 minutes. Please note Outdoor pool is heated from the end of May to the end of August.

You can come in and out of the site at any time throughout the night, though we ask that you do not drive around the site late and that you be respectful of your neighbours.
There is free WiFi in the Terrace Bar & Restaurant and on the Pool Terrace. Just ask at the Bar for help connecting.
Train Station: Henry’s train departs from the station next to the skate park.
Activity Club: Family and children’s daily activities and events take place in The Venue†. This is also the place to be if the weather is wet during the day! For more details of daily activities, check out the big blue noticeboard.
Soft Play: The Soft Play is next to The Venue and is for kids 6yrs and under. Children must be supervised at all times.
Outdoor Pool: To book scuba diving go to the main Oasis Pools Reception. We advise you avoid busy times when making an activity booking.
What do I do if Reception is closed and I want to check out? Put your key in the key box outside of Reception. If you are touring or camping you do not have to come into Reception to check out.

Games Field: Located through the gateway after Laurel field. See top left corner on your park map (inside back pages). Can we walk into town? How long does it take? You can walk into town; allow 40 minutes to an hour. Be aware though that there are a few hills and busy roads! Please go to Reception for directions.

Where is the nearest cinema? The nearest is The Lighthouse Cinema which is in the centre of town.
What should I do with any bed linen I have hired? Please leave bed linen in your holiday home on departure.
What are the bus times?
Are there any cash machines on the park? There are cash machines in the Terrace Bar & Restaurant foyer and in the Supermarket, please note these charge a fee.The nearest cash machine outside of the park is at Morrison’s Supermarket, about half a mile away.
Bus times vary throughout the season. You can find up to date information and timetables at Reception or by the bus stop just outside the park.
Where is the nearest large supermarket? Morrison’s is just down the road. Turn left out of the site and go right at the roundabout. Morrison’s is on your left. There is also a Nisa supermarket on site.
What do I do if I have lost or found property? In the first instance please see Reception for all items, whether lost or found. Property will be kept for 2 weeks only.
Where is the nearest hospital? Both Newquay Hospital and the nearest doctors are within 2 miles of Hendra. Contact numbers can be found on page 16, directions can be obtained from Reception.

LOCAL BEACHES Cornwall has nearly 700km of coastline, more than 300 beaches and twelve separate Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. From world renowned beaches to little known coves; quaint harbours to dramatic cliff-tops; a landscape as pretty as it is rugged... Cornwall’s natural beauty can uplift your heart and hearten your holiday. You can take your pick of spectacular surf beaches and expanses of golden sand or choose tranquil bays and sheltered coves. Cornwall can boast some of the best, cleanest and safest beaches in Europe. Every single one reaches EU standards for the bathing water quality but nearly all exceed requirements and are marked as good or excellent. Here’s our guide to some of our favourites! Fistral Beach, well-known for surfing and many surfing festivals and events, it’s a must for the whole family. With good parking*, plenty of facilities, its long expanse of sand is ideal for sandcastle building, playing football, or just a stroll. The views here are amazing and it’s one of the best beaches for learning to surf too! Towan, Great Western and Tolcarne these family beaches at the base of the cliffs off Newquay’s main street have access via steps or a gentle slopes. All great for a day out with good facilities and the bonus of Newquay’s main street with its cafes and bakeries so you can indulge in a pasty or a cream tea without going far! You’ll need to find parking* in town but it’s worth a visit for the day combined with some retail therapy and if the weather turns you can always catch an afternoon film at the Cinema! Porth, just a short drive out of Newquay on the road which takes you to Watergate Bay, you’ll find one of the local’s favourite beaches, again ideal for families plus parking close-by and a good pub! A walk around Porth Island is a great opportunity to enjoy the panoramic views across Newquay Bay to the west and Watergate Bay to the east.
Holywell Bay, this beach, located to the west of Newquay, is brilliant for families with little ones as there is a gently flowing stream, ideal for paddling, which forms the boundary on one side to flat level sand ideal for sunbathing. On the other side of the beach rise extensive sand dunes which form good shelter on windy days. Ideal for surfing, its vast expanse of sand is perfect for games and sand castle building, plus there are lots of rock pools to explore. Parking and toilets are about a 5-10 minute walk.

Polly Joke, (Porth Joke), is a small beach which nestles in a narrow cove between Holywell Bay and Crantock where, at low tide, rock-pools and caves are revealed. This quiet, relatively little-known beach can be reached via a rugged path just under a mile from a small car park at Treago Farm in Crantock. There are no toilets or other facilities on this beach and the pathway is not suitable for pushchairs or the less able-bodied. Crantock, great for sand dunes, rock-pools and caves to explore and easy access plus good facilities. The River Gannel borders the eastern side and flows down the mile of sand to the sea, ideal for paddling or cross the river (bridge at low tide, ferry at high tide) to the Fern Pit Cafe for a scone with jam and cream or a sandwich with freshly caught crab! Mawgan Porth, by far one of the prettiest beaches in the area, offers safe swimming, family surfing and body boarding. Good facilities and amenities include close-by parking.* Perranporth, another Cornish beach favoured by the locals. At low tide the beach is over two miles long, but high tide covers the sand entirely so plan your visit accordingly! There is a natural open air pool which is filled with sea water at high tide and warmed by the sun during the day. There is a beach café with live music in the evenings, and plenty of close-by facilities including good parking*. *Parking charges apply.

We have a dog walking area next to Laurel field, so your four-legged friends can get all the exercise they need. Many beaches in Newquay allow dogs to be exercised on them but please pay attention to signage displayed. Be aware of other beach users and especially other dogs. Be especially careful when allowing your dog in the water, just like a human swimmer dogs can be carried away on rip tides or be caught in strong surf. ARE WONDERFUL BUT... THE VAST MAJORITY OF SCOOTER ACCIDENTS INVOLVE THOSE UNDER THE AGE OF 15! The fact is, scooters are like any other piece of sporting equipment; they can be used and used safely, but you need to take proper precautions. Here are a few easily digestible guidelines for scooter safety that everyone who uses scooters should observe. The vast majority of scooter accidents involve those under the age of 15. Worst of all, with a little attention paid to basic scooter safety, the vast majority of mishaps can be prevented. SAFETY ADVICE We advise you ALWAYS use a helmet, knee pads and elbow pads. We advise that children under eight should always be supervised when using scooters. Almost a third of all scooter-related injuries and accidents involve children under the age of eight. As everyone knows, scooters are capable of travelling very quickly, and children that age do not always have the judgement or coordination to handle these high speeds. Cars and scooters don’t mix, especially for younger riders. Parents please take your children to the scooter park, don’t
let them make their own way there. Always be careful of pedestrians, who always have the right of way. DO NOT allow your children to use the main pedestrian walkway as a speed track to the skate park. ALWAYS observe the basic rules of the road anywhere you use scooters. As scooters can travel as fast as many other types of vehicles, motorised and non-motorised, they too must observe the rules of the road. These include: Stop at every stop sign. Look left, right, and left again before proceeding. Stop at the end of the road. Look left, right, and left before entering the street. Use proper hand signals. Obey traffc signs and signals. CORNWALL’S FILM LOCATIONS One of the many things Cornwall is famous for is as a film and TV location. Whilst visitors may not come across filming taking place very often it’s great fun spending a day visiting the various locations seen on film and TV around the county. Port Isaac is the location for Doc Martin’s home village of Portwenn, a walk around Port Isaac takes you past many film locations in Doc Martin including Doc Martins surgery, Bert’s Restaurant, the Chemist, The Platt, the Quay, the School, Louisa’s old and new houses and Wenn House (the Bay Hotel).

Porthcothan, (Nampara cove). This is the closest film location to Hendra, take the coast road to Padstow, (take the same road for Constantine Beach further on).
Gunwalloe Church Cove, nr Helston, sits in a sheltered, south west-facing cove on the beautiful Lizard Peninsula in south west Cornwall. It is a sandy beach, at the north end of which, below the cliffs, sits the small church with detached bell tower that gives the beach its name. Constantine Bay, near Padstow, a long

Porthgwarra, Land’s End, access to the cove is via a minor road off the B3283 road at Polgigga and leads to the car park in the village. The South West Coast Path passes through Porthgwarra, approximately 90 minutes’ walk from Land’s End and 45 minutes from Porthcurno.
The new dramatisation of Winston Graham’s books about the Poldark family have been filmed in a number of locations across the county. All are worthy of a visit although it is the coastal vistas and seascapes that provide the dramatic backdrop to the series. Film locations as follows:
Wheal Owles Mine, Penwith, St Just (Wheal Leisure mine), Wheal Owles Mine (pronounced ‘Oals’) lies on the cliffs on the north coast of Cornwall, about a mile and a half northeast of Cape Cornwall in the St. Just mining area of north Penwith district.

THE HENDRA TEAM ALWAYS WANT TO BE AS GREEN AS POSSIBLE; WE HAVE ALREADY ACHIEVED A HUGE AMOUNT AND YOU CAN DO YOUR BIT AS WELL. IT’S GREAT FUN FOR THE KIDS TO GET INVOLVED TOO! Hendra produces on average the same amount of rubbish as a small town, every week, so it is vitally important that everyone does their bit to recycle as much as possible. This will keep the costs down so we can continue to offer fantastic value holidays! Henry Hippo has recycling stations around the park so paper, card, glass bottles and cans can be sorted fast! Henry and Henrietta are always grateful for the help, and love to recycle! Our shower blocks and toilets use reduced water systems and we keep lighting to a minimum so you can enjoy the stars at night! You can be green by using your car less and by taking the bus. It couldn’t be easier! Hendra is on the bus route with a bus stop and shelter right outside the site, with regular buses into town and to the beaches, and across the road there are buses to The Eden Project.

We also won another Gold David Bellamy Award in 2013 for our grounds and conservation! SunPower Meadow opened in 2011, with 10 acres of solar panels which suck up enough sunshine to make over 70% of the electricity used on the Park! FOR TOTS We make sure even the youngest of guests will be entertained every day of their holiday, which is why we have lots especially for babies and toddlers! There’s the soft play area, the playground, and acres of open space for running around in and your little ones will love the daytime play activities and early evening fun sessions with Henry or Henrietta Hippo too. The Oasis pools are perfect for babies and toddlers, with the warm baby pool and the squirty water toys. You’ll find a wide selection of choices on the children’s menus in the Terrace restaurant, Mario’s Pizzeria and the Fish & Chip takeaway, and our supermarket has a well-stocked range of baby and toddler essentials. The Hire shop has lots of baby equipment for hire if there is something you forgot to bring – see page 51. Newquay is also perfect for tots, with attractions such as the Zoo, Blue Reef Aquarium or beaches with acres of golden sand for sandcastles and paddling. There are many toddler-friendly coastal walks to, such as to the harbour from Newquay town centre or park up at Little Fistral

Local attractions like Dairyland Farm World are ideal for little ones with pony rides, feeding the lambs or meeting all the pets. For Thomas the Tank Engine fans look no further than the miniature steam trains at Lappa Valley Railway! Baby and Toddler Mid-Week breaks for 2016… We’re now offering special Monday to Friday toddler breaks stuffed full of activities for little ones including swim sessions, indoor activities, party dances, face painting, arts and crafts and more. The Premium caravans are warm and spacious with central heating, double glazing and lots of space to play and accommodate all the extra stuff that comes with a toddler, as well as the rest of the family! Cots and high-chairs are available to hire and all the caravans have a single bed that lifts to fit a cot!
