The Frodsham Charity Music Festival (p96) is on Saturday 11th August. This year will be the 8th Festival and a very special one as the organisers hope to reach their £100,000 target. Tasty Starter Crab Parcels These crisp ďŹ lo pastry parcels with a crab and ginger ďŹ lling make a tasty seafood starter for a special dinner or can be served as nibbles with refreshing drinks on a hot summer’s evening.
Ingredients:
i the crab meat, ginger, coriander, chopped spring onions and lime uice in a bowl. eason lightly with freshly-ground black pepper.

Cut the sheets of filo pastry into twenty cm s uares. ake one s uare and brush lightly with water then top with a second pastry s uare. lace a spoonful of the crab mi ture in the centre of the s uare. rush the edges lightly with water and gather them together to enclose the filling and form a moneybag-shaped parcel.

Sweet Recipe Berry & Chocolate Pavlovas These divine individual pavlovas are ideal for a summer dessert. You can make the meringues in advance then layer with fruit and cream a couple of hours before serving.
Ingredients:
1.
reheat the oven to C, fan C, as ark . ine large baking sheets with baking paper. raw si cm circles on each sheet of baking paper. urn the paper over.

sing an electric food mi er whisk the egg whites in a clean grease-free bowl until stiff. radually whisk in the sugar, one tablespoon at a time, whisking well after each addition to make a firm and glossy meringue.
3.
lend the cornflour, vinegar and vanilla e tract together in a small bowl and fold into the meringue. ivide the meringue between the marked circles.
4.
ake for minutes - hour until the meringues are crisp and dry on the outside. urn the oven off and leave them to cool completely in the oven with the door slightly open.

f you happen to visit the idlands region between ay and eptember, you might be in for a big surprise. uring this time intriguing temporary structures can appear almost overnight, creating a riot of colour in the middle of an ordinary town or village street. hese structures can be anything up to twelve foot tall and the comple artwork at the centre will be created from natural materials such as flowers, mosses, leaves, twigs, seeds, beans and small pine cones. f you’re new to the area you might imagine that these ob ects have been randomly placed as part of a local art festival, but look a little closer and you’ll realise that each display has been carefully positioned so it frames a well or freshwater spring.
he histor of we dressin t’s likely that the custom began as a pagan ritual, designed to pay tribute to the spirit that guarded the natural spring. he early Church, disapproving of such heathen traditions, reinterpreted the rites as a Christian thanksgiving ceremony. he practice remained popular until the reign of enry , when Chancellor homas Cromwell issued instructions for well-dressing e uipment to be destroyed presumably because idolatrous’ images forbidden by enry’s reformed church were being used. hat must have come as a blow to rural communities like issington in erbyshire. ir ichard it herbert, the ninth baronet of issington all, claims that during natural disasters the wells provided a lifeline for the people. e e plains n times of drought they never dried up, so everyone lived from the water, and in times of plague, the village cut itself off from the outside world and had a safe, reliable water source for survival.

This month sees the 100th birthday of Freda Adelaide Parry. Freda was born in Liverpool, a city she is proud to call her own (especially its football team) and was from generations of sea faring folk. Her father worked for the Liverpool Daily Post and Echo and she was from a large family but few reached adulthood. Freda was privately educated and later trained to be an economics teacher. During the war she cycled around the war torn streets delivering hot soup to the homeless. Kingsley Players stormed to success in the 2018 Cheshire Theatre Guild awards by winning the county’s Best Overall Production for Goodnight Mr Tom, plus four other awards. The Kingsley Players Youth Theatre production of Arabian Nights was presented with a special Adjudicator’s Award and Eleanor Roberts, who played Shahrazad, was named Most Promising Young Female Actor. Matthew Betteridge and Ben Mather Dodd, who played the young boys William and Zach in Goodnight Mr Tom, were jointly awarded Best Young Actor in a Senior Production, and Cinderella was given the Best Costume Award and named Best Panto runner-up. he ri es ere resente at a s e ia ere ony in ashing ith ng an s Wor Cu se i na i

Kingsley Players chairman Colin Smith said: “Many congratulations to everyone connected with the group’s four productions over the last year. Our record number of awards and nominations, spread across all aspects of the theatre, are a fantastic recognition of everyone’s hard work, skill and creativity.” The 16 nominations also included Goodnight Mr Tom for Best Director (Malcolm Barker & Laura Williams), Best Actor (Dylan White), Best Supporting Female Actor (Holly Bolland), Best Supporting Male Actor (Carlo Marson) and Best Properties. The pantomime Cinderella was also nominated for Best Lighting and Sound, and Phil Murray for Best Supporting Actor in A Bunch of Amateurs. The Youth Theatre production of Arabian Nights in March was recognised with nominations for Best Director (Jake Powell & Alex Dedman), Best Young Female Actor (Maddison Withey), Most Promising Young Female Actor (Ruby Taylor), Most Promising Male Actor (Max Houghton) and Best Costume. Kingsley Players will next be on stage in October (17-20) with an adaptation of the classic Jane Austen novel, Pride and Prejudice and in January 2019 with a production of the popular musical Dr Doolittle.
