The global COVID-19 pandemic has had a catastrophic impact on conservation around the world. With nations in lockdown and unprecedented global travel restrictions, wildlife, and in particular rhino, are facing an increased threat of poaching. An abrupt loss of tourism income is threatening recent progress in anti-poaching, habitat protection and community empowerment.
Simon Jones CEO, Helping Rhinos
Helping Rhinos and Ol Pejeta Conservancy have joined forces to present a unique online fundraising event in November 2020. Originally scheduled to take place in London, global lockdown restrictions now make this impossible, so we are going LIVE and ON AIR instead. We promise an entertaining evening and we would love you to join us. We hope the evening will help to raise critical funds that will enable us to continue our cutting edge conservation work that is helping to save the last northern white rhino on the planet and protect the critically endangered black rhino. When we protect the rhino we are protecting a whole ecosystem, a myriad of other wildlife that are supported by this mega herbivore. If we lose the rhino we lose the biodiversity that it has been a part of for millennia. We all have a part to play in protecting this iconic species.

LIVELIHOODS at risk as staff are laid off increasing already high unemployment rates and levels of poverty. Black rhino on Ol Pejeta Conservancy
The money we hope to raise from this special fundraising event will allow us to continue our successful work in the field, at a time when it is more critical than ever due to the loss of traditional sources of income. These include:
1. Deployment of essential security operations using the latest information technology, aerial reconnaissance, anti-poaching dogs and ranger patrols. This is more critical now than at any time in recent years.
2. Increased initiatives in surrounding communities aimed at maintaining the local economy and sustaining livelihoods at a time when many people have lost their jobs.
3.
4.
The expansion of rhino habitat; opening up natural migratory routes allowing the continued growth of East Africa’s largest black rhino population.
Supporting the ground-breaking scientific research into assisted reproduction that is giving a lifeline to the northern white rhino and potentially other rhino species.
