About Kariega Game Reserve

Its ecology hosts a variety of other wildlife too, most of which have persisted in the Eastern Cape through the centuries. Wild cat, lynx, hyena, jackal, genet, bush pig, warthog, baboon, monkey, aardvark, otter, honey badger and porcupine are some of its residents, not to mention giraffe, zebra, impala, springbok, blesbok, Cape grysbok, bushbuck, duiker, kudu and eland that punctuate the landscape. And, with two magnificent rivers running through the reserve in the east and west, (the Kariega and Bushman's rivers), the Kariega wilderness is a delight for birdwatchers to view an abundance of birdlife including the magnificent African fish eagle.

Kariega is also home to a crash of rhino including world renowned rhino poaching survivor Thandi and her four calves.

Kariega Game Reserve is a malaria free Reserve just 80 minutes from Port Elizabeth and, being situated along South Africa’s ‘Garden Route’, it makes it the perfect safari destination to compliment a visit to Cape Town and a trip along the country’s beautiful coastline.
