The Senior Scoop 2023 has come a to a close, and we're feeling all the warm fuzzies thinking about what we've achieved. From taking seniors to their medical appointments to dishing up gourmet noms, lending a hand with shopping and home repairs, and even creating moments of peace for caregivers, we've been busy bees buzzing with joy! Our hearts sing knowing we're making life even sweeter for our favorite peeps - seniors! Grocery runs, fixing up homes, providing healthy meals - we've got it all covered!
Bringing Generations Together WITH GAME NIGHT...
The holiday season is a time for joy, peace, and gathering with your loved ones— but there's always room for a little friendly competition, too! Perhaps you and your family have an annual white elephant gift exchange or have fun hiding the Elf on the Shelf all around your home. (Check out our collection of funny Elf on the Shelf ideas for even more hilarious places to put him!) These are some classics, but there are dozens of other festively fun Christmas games that are just as enjoyable for kids and adults alike. Most of these games are based on classics that you play every day, like Scattergories and Jeopardy but with some extra holiday flair. A round of Reindeer Antler Ring Toss, Christmas Name That Tune, or "How Old Is Santa?" is fun for kids of all ages! Some of these Christmas activities even come with a handy-dandy free printable. No matter which game format you prefer—guessing games, memory games, movie references, or quizzing each other on Christmas trivia—there's guaranteed to be something for everyone on this list. Baking made easy...
HOLIDAY SWEETS Ideal for bakers who are excited to follow steps needed to make
their own cookie dough by hand. No eggs or dairy means it’s easy to stir. Everybody can measure out the ingredients. Older kids can grind the almonds and oats. Offer a selection of jams to give
everyone a choice to fill cookies as they wish. A jewel box awaits. Makes about two dozen. This recipe is gluten-, dairy- and eggfree.
Ingredients: 1 cup whole or slivered roasted unsalted almonds
1 cup old-fashioned or quick-cooking oats (not instant) 2/3 cup quinoa flour*
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
¼ cup neutral oil (such as safflower or sunflower) ½ cup maple syrup ½ cup orange juice
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/3 to ½ cup of your favorite jam or marmalade, chilled
*Tip: You can grind ½ cup whole beige quinoa into flour in a mini chopper or heavy-duty blender.
Directions Pulverize the almonds and oats in a food processor into a medium-coarse meal. Transfer to a medium bowl.
Add quinoa flour and cinnamon to bowl and stir everything together.
In a separate bowl, stir together the oil, maple syrup, orange juice and vanilla.
With a stirring spatula, incorporate the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, stirring well. Cover with plastic and refrigerate for one hour.
Line two sheet pans with parchment paper. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.
With a 1-tablespoon measure, scoop dough and arrange on the prepared pans, leaving space in between rows.
Using your thumb or the back of a spoon, make an indentation
in the middle of each dough mound. Fill the middle with about ¼ teaspoon of jam.
Bake until golden brown around the edges, about 22 minutes. With a lifting spatula, transfer cookies to a cooling rack.
Cookies are slightly soft and moist and keep best in a metal tin for about five days.
Lastly, enjoy what you created with your loved ones.

We had an amazing time at this year's Annual Senior Holiday Luncheon! The Blind Center catered a delicious lunch that everyone enjoyed. Our seniors also had the opportunity to participate in raffles, and much to our delight, Santa himself made an appearance and took photos with everyone. The event was filled with laughter, joy, and good food. Thank you to everyone who made this year's event such a memorable experience!

Creative Kids have accomplished something truly spectacular. They were able to collect a staggering 1,173.5 pounds of food for our seniors! We couldn't be more impressed with their efforts! We are truly impressed by the outpouring of support and kindness from all of you. This was a great reminder of the power of collective action and the difference we can make when we come together for a common cause. Resources FOR OUR FAVORITE HUMANS - SENIORS Visit Helping Hands of Vegas at hhovv.org for more information about our programs and services. We offer programs and services to residents in Southern Nevada at “no cost.” We define our senior citizens as gently aging and are eligible for services through Helping Hands of Vegas Valley at the age of 60 and older. Most programs require identification and proof of residency. Our pantry program asks for a little more information as it is federally funded and supported.

We provide free groceries and paper goods to *eligible seniors. Open pantry is available Monday -Wednesday from 8 am to 12 noon. Delivery is also available for our home-bound seniors. *Income level must be at or below 185% of federal poverty guideline and reside in Clark County.

MINOR HOME REPAIR 702.274.0193 The program provides minor repairs for those who need help to complete the tasks. Clients must own their home and it must serve as the primary residence.

Our program lends a helping hand to those who care for their loved ones. Through this program, your 'family caregiver' is given support by granting them a little worry-free time. Vouchers are issed and used as payment for a licensed home health care professional.
RURAL DELIVERED MEAL PROGRAM 702.507.1845 A supplemental food program that ships nutritious meals once a month to the doorstep of Seniors 60+ in select areas of Rural Nevada. This program serves homebound seniors due to illness, disability, and/or unable to attend congregate meal sites, food pantries, or grocery stores. This includes those who have difficulty preparing meals or do not have a caretaker for support.
