SMATERIA

Smateria is a women-owned and operated business, founded in 2006 by Jennifer Morellato and Elisa Lion, who both shared passions for creativity, business, and sustainability. Elisa is their creator and maker, always searching for ways to transform materials with a creative twist. She met Jennifer, who was looking to start a business that empowers Cambodians through their work, and their friendship and shared values led them to build Smateria. After prototyping their ﬁrst bags, they took the entrepreneurial plunge to transform their ideas into a thriving ethical brand dedicated to femininity, positivity and style.

The idea behind Smateria is to create and share joy through a functional yet quirky product selection, all made ethically in Cambodia.

Repurposed Nylon Net

Industrial nylon net is a multipurpose material mainly used for ﬁshing and the construction ﬁeld. In Phnom Penh is surrounded by this material. The bag’s exterior comprises of two layers of net and one layer of fabric.

Recycled Plastic

The IKI line exterior is made from 100% recycled industrial plastic packaging(recycled polyethylene terephthalate).

IKI is water-resistant, lightweight, extremely strong, altogether user-friendly and vegan.

ecoLIFT™ Artisan Collection comes from, a social enterprise based in Pune, India.

Their aim is to provide a better living in a sustainable way and to raise awareness of environmental issues. And enables livelihoods for more than 85 artisans

The collection is made by upcycling difficult-to-recycle and non-biodegradable, plastic bags, snack wrappers, vinyl banners, balloons, and old audio/video cassette tapes.

The plastic is washed, dried, and sorted by color, cut into strips, spun on a loom, then handwoven into colorful fabric that is sewn into plant baskets, bags, placemats, and more.

The finished products prevents thousands of pounds of waste, plastic bags, and wrappers from going into landfills and oceans and becoming forever trash.

Due to the found nature of the material, there will be color variations.
