REPORT OF VR STORYTELLERS GUILD WORKSHOP & CONFERENCE

THE VR STORYTELLERS GUILD IS a platform for forging creative alliances BETWEEN YOUNG Indian CREATIVE PROFESSIONALS TOWARDS EXPANDING AND MENTORING THEIR VISION FOR Virtual Reality.

NASSCOM and Quicksand have come together to create this platform with an intent to push the first wave of Indian Virtual Reality creators towards authentic content geared at global recognition. The VR Guild connects meaningful Indian contexts and partners to a diverse group of young professionals, mentored by international professionals.

The GUiLD’S objective is to catalyse SUSTAINABLE CREATIVITY IN INDIAN virtual reality production, starting with a series of VR STORYTELLING WORKSHOPS - THE FIRST OF WHICH WAS RECENTLY CONCLUDED IN BENGALURU, INDIA IN COLLABORATION WITH CROSSOVER LABS (UK)

OVERVIEW OF VR GUILD WORKSHOP • An open call to the creative community was followed by a curated selection of participants with complementary skills and approaches

!

• Over the course of 5 days, the participants shared ideas, worked with mentors and collaborated to create 6 unique projects with prototypes. All were pitched at the public VR Conference on the last evening.

• Several projects were matched with real partners ranging from an NGO working on Early Marriage to India’s First Lunar Mission

6 compelling ideas were prototyped at the workshop - each accompanied by a pitch deck and presentation video

ITS OK TO TALK Interactive VR piece that presents the complexities of mental health issues amongst young adults in India

HUMAARI DUNIYA VR puppetry that expresses the dilemmas and forces resulting in early & child marriage in India

BINDU Gamified VR journey into the life and art of artist S.H. Raza & other contemporary Indian artists

CHITRAHAAR Interactive VR Diorama made from Priya Paul’s incredible collection of Indian popular culture imagery

MOONSHOT A 360 documentary featuring the journey of India’s first attempt to land a rover on the moon

BEING HER VR film that embodies viewers as Indian women facing sexual harassment in the city everyday

We are presently working on finding production funds and partners to take these films through to completion and SUBSEQUENT LOCAL AND international DISTRIBUTION

we are looking at presenting the guild at international showcases, AND CREATING MORE WORKSHOPS IN 2017 VR Storytellers Guild of India We are designing a custom travelling exhibit and art installation to present the Guild, its vision and its outcomes.

The installation would include viewing pods for the projects.

VR prototype experiences Suitably produced for an international platform - in the hope of match making with potential funders to further produce these projects for the global VR ecosystem.
