Q&A WITH KOBUS TRUTER

KT Interior comes recommended by the Life&Brand team and its holistic approach and turnkey services are turning heads nationwide.

KT Interior offers a complete design service - from concept, design, procurement, and hands-on involvement with the final build, to styling and final handover.

We spoke to CEO and founder, Kobus Truter – a former chef and now a formidable designer – about his approach to design:

HL What is holistic interior design?

KT Holistic interior design is a design approach that considers the overall wellbeing of a space’s occupants, focusing on creating an environment that is aesthetically pleasing, functional and promotes physical and mental health. It often incorporates natural materials, lighting and other elements to create a harmonious and balanced atmosphere.

HL What do you specialise in?

MAKE YOUR HOUSE A HOME THIS EASTER WITH THESE DÉCOR ITEMS: bespoke environments; spaces that are home to a brand’s vision and DNA, but also have their own immersive elements and identity.

HL Tell us about one recent professional achievement that you are really proud of?

KT I am very proud of CABO Beach Club in Cape Town - a space that truly shows our holistic approach to design.

HL Where and how do you become inspired?

KT Travelling abroad and locally, spending time out in nature and drawing from life’s experiences.

HL What materials do you absolutely love working with?

KT All materials! I get hooked on different things, but also get tired of them after a while. Currently, I love working with natural materials like clay and wood.

HL What is the most rewarding part of the design process for you, and why?

KT I love all the different stages, much like being in the kitchen and conceptualising a dish from vision to execution. I love both sides of being creativae - methodical, strategic and allowing space to play in between.

HL Tell us about some of your favourite furnishings, décor items, collections, or sentimental art pieces you own?

KT I have a couple of small décor accessories and art pieces that I collected over the years of travelling. Currently, I love my little German white vases. I bought them on a flee market in Berlin. And, my handwoven silk rug from Marrekech. My dogs also love it! H
