Take fluffy for a walk

The City of Gold has so many amazing attributes, but being walkable isn’t one of them, so the weekend is the ideal time to stretch your legs and take your fury friend out to one of Jozi’s amazing parks. We recommend Walkhaven, whichboastsover22-hectaresofmagnificent grasslands where your dog can run leash free. There’s loads of open space to play fetch and beautiful trees, so you can relax in the shade while your wet-nosed friend socialises with other hounds. Delta Park is another amazing dog-friendly spot that’s loved by locals. It has a stunning dam, small waterfall and is just the perfect place to soak up Joburg’s sunshine and naturalbeauty–notforgettingthemesmerising view of the Sandton skyline that’s also visible from the park. Bonus: It has some great jungle gyms for kids, making it a fantastic place for the whole family to enjoy!

Do grocery shopping Although grocery shopping isn’t the most glamourous thing to do on a Saturday morning, it’s a reality of everyday life. However, there are some spots in Jozi that actually make this mundane activity a lot more enjoyable. One of these is Impala Fruit and Veg–afamilyrun businesslocatedinNorthcliff, whichstocksfresh, organic fruit and vegetables at fraction of the price compared to chain grocery stores. They also stock rare fruit and vegetables and have their own line of freshly squeezed seasonal juices, dried fruit and nuts–nottomentionthattheyofferdeliciouspremade salads that are guaranteed to make the perfect side to your chops on a Sunday afternoon braai (another important weekend tradition). Dunkeld Fruit and Flowers is also a great option if you can’t face going to your normal grocery store. As implied in the name, they have a fantastic variety of fruit and an unbeatable selection of flowers. In fact, they’re one of the few places where you can get peonies in Jozi and at really reasonable prices too.

Get a workout in Between work and home responsibilities, having time to go to the gym can feel like an impossible task. Luckily, there are so many great places to visit on the weekend, where you can enjoy a free workout! One of our favourites is Kloofendal Nature Reserve, which not only offersvisitorsachoice ofgreathikingpathsbut is also a fantastic spot to enjoy some peace and quiet in nature. If you’re lucky enough you might even be able spot some wildlife, including buck, dassies and a wide variety of birdlife. Another extremely popular way to get a weekend workout in, is by taking part in a Park Run. Almost every area has one and they’re completely free to join. Plus, it’s also a great way to meet people from your community. Just visit www. parkrun.co.zato findoutwhich parks close to you participate.

A GHOST TOUR The convenient thing about ghosts is that they tend to hang around old cities everywhere, including Jozi. The Mystery Ghost Bus tour starts near the Joburg Gen in Parktown at 7 pm, where you board a luxury bus. Based on the London Ghost Bus, the five-hour-longtour entertains with ghost, murder and mystery stories in the city. The tour offers something for everyone: pub stops to get you into the spirit (excuse the pun) with eerie storytelling at one of the pubs, meals, entertainment, the science of paranormal, live and dramatically recorded ghost stories, historical buildings and several off-the-busstops.
