Hosted in local parks across the region, the Leave It dog training sessions offer a fun and practical way to build better habits together.

Target on invasive animals and weeds
Two biosecurity programs will chart action to protect our region’s landscapes and livelihoods from the destructive impacts of invasive weeds and feral animals.
Sunshine Coast Council has endorsed two major biosecurity programs to protect our region’s environment, lifestyle and economy, in partnership with the community.
The Invasive Animal Prevention and Control Program and the Invasive Plant Surveillance Program will run for the next four years and focus on education, early detection and coordinated action across the region.
The Invasive Animal Prevention and Control Program will focus on species including wild dogs, feral deer, feral pigs, feral cats, foxes and rabbits
The Invasive Plant Surveillance Program will target weeds such as groundsel bush, cat’s claw creeper, fireweed, giant rat’s tail grasses and salvinia.
Every action makes a difference Environment and Liveability Portfolio Councillor Tim Burns said the programs protected the unique ecosystems and biodiversity of our Sunshine Coast Biosphere.
“Council can’t do this alone, so no matter whether you live in a rural area or an apartment in Mooloolaba, you can be the eyes and hands that make a difference

Daniel’s Law: Public Child Sex Offender Register
The Queensland Government is restoring safety where you live and delivering on its key election promise to establish a public child sex offender register, with legislation introduced to Parliament on 27th August 2025.
Daniel’s Law will establish the Community Protection and Child Sex Offender Public Register in Queensland, allowing parents to access to information to better protect their children.
The Bill will be referred to a Parliamentary Committee for review before coming back to the Parliament, with the Government to deliver on its promise for Daniel’s Law to be law before the end of the year.
The Public Register is the next phase of the Making Queensland Safer Laws and modelled closely on the proven West Australian system established in 2012, creating a threetiered disclosure framework:
Tier 1: a publicly available website for reportable offenders who have failed to comply with their obligations and their whereabouts is unknown to police. The offenders full name, photograph and year of birth will be accessible by members of the public, but they must agree not to misuse the information.
Tier 2: online application for Queensland residents to view photographs of reportable offenders living in their local area.
Tier 3: online application for parents and guardians to confirm whether a particular person who has had, or will have, unsupervised contact with their child, is a reportable offender.
Daniel’s Law is named in honour of Sunshine Coast teenager Daniel Morcombe, whose life was tragically taken in 2003. Daniel’s Law follows two decades of advocacy from his parents, and through the Daniel Morcombe Foundation.
