COUNCIL UPDATE The four words that could save your life As the days get warmer, many locals and visitors just can’t wait to get to the beach and hit the surf… it’s such an exciting and exhilarating experience. However, in the rush to cool off or take a relaxing dip, we can miss signs that, unfortunately, put us at grave risk. Following a heartbreaking season last summer that saw three drowning deaths on the Sunshine Coast, lifeguards and volunteer lifesavers are urging everyone to make safety a priority. Their message is clear: Stop, Look and Stay Alive. The national campaign urges people to Stop before they enter the water, Look for the red and yellow flags to swim between and for any signs and warnings, and Stay Alive by assessing whether they have the ability to tackle the prevailing conditions, not going in alone and only entering the water if it’s safe. Who’s there to help protect you? Sunshine Coast Council-funded professional lifeguards, supported by thousands of dedicated volunteer lifesavers, patrol our beaches with one shared mission: zero preventable deaths. Their message is simple but vital: if you’re heading to the beach, choose a patrolled location and swim between the flags.
The 2025–26 volunteer surf lifesaving season has begun and will run until early May 2026.

PEREGIAN SPRINGS HALLOWEEN ON THE HORIZON This year, Halloween falls on Thursday, October 31st, offering a perfect opportunity to enjoy a tradition that has become a staple in Peregian Springs. Whether it’s the large number of children in the area or our diverse community, Halloween always brings plenty of excitement. Many homes go all out with decorations, and the festivities typically begin around 4:30 PM, with treats often running out by 7:30 PM. Check our Facebook page closer to Halloween for updates on the best streets to visit.

Navigating Local Bushfire Information In times of rising smoke, Facebook groups buzz with questions about nearby fires. To ensure community safety, it's vital to access swift and accurate bushfire information. The go-to source is the QFES website's Current bushfire warnings and incidents map (https://www.qfes.qld.gov.au/CurrentIncidents). Understand the difference between BUSHFIRE WARNINGS and INCIDENTS on the website. Warnings, like "avoid smoke," prompt immediate action, while incidents (vegetation fires, crashes, etc.) don't always lead to warnings. For on-the-go updates, download apps like "QLDFires (a paid app)" and "FiresNearMeAustralia," offering a comprehensive view of both warnings and incidents. "Bushfire.io" adds detailed insights on wind direction and air operations. Remember, these apps pull data from the QFES website, but for the most accurate and up-to-date information, rely on the website itself. In case of visible smoke or flames, prioritise safety and call 000. Staying informed is the key to community wellbeing.

REPORTS OF COUNTERFEIT CASH ON SUNSHINE COAST Sunshine Coast police have recently received a number of reports of counterfeit notes being used in the area and encourage anyone transacting in notes to be vigilant. Residents and businesses are urged to show care when handling notes and report any suspicious circumstances as soon as possible. If you suspect that someone is handing you counterfeit notes, you can refuse to accept it (as long as it is safe to do so). If you come across a banknote that you suspect is counterfeit, take the following steps:
Handle the suspect banknote as little as possible and store it in an envelope. Note any relevant information, such as how it came into your possession. Report the matter immediately to State or Federal police.
