COUNCIL UPDATE
Answer nature’s call in comfort at popular trail
Sunshine Coast Council is working with the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service to deliver muchneeded amenities for nature lovers
Minister for the Environment and Tourism Andrew Powell said he was committed to improving the amenities of our popular national parks such as Mount Coolum National Park, which is visited by more than 200,000 people each year
Sunshine Coast Council Division 8 Councillor Taylor Bunnag said Council was focused on maintaining and improving our parks and recreational spaces across the region.
“Currently the nearest public toilets are located almost 2km away in Birrahl Park so providing amenities at Mount Coolum will be a welcome improvement for both residents and visitors.
Sunshine Coast Council is investing $50,000 and partnering with the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service, which is providing $425,000 to design and construct the new amenities block.
What’s to come Council will be engaging a consultant for the design which will start in late May 2025
Construction is scheduled to start in August, with completion expected by early November 2025, depending on weather and site conditions.

The prefabricated amenities block will be designed to improve security and safety for visitors to the park.
“The amenities block will be open and accessible, and we’re designing it to help people feel safe while using the facilities,” Cr Bunnag said
“It will also be powered sustainably by its own solar system.”

COMING TO YANDINA

Stockland launches new over 50s community in Yandina
Stockland has launched Halcyon Yandina, a new land lease community in the heart of the Sunshine Coast Hinterland, with expressions of interest for the first homes now open.
The $200 million-plus community will span a 17-hectare site between Steggalls Road and Brandons Road, transforming the site into a vibrant, resort-style community designed for over 50s.
Work is set to begin later this year and is expected to take around four years to complete Homes are anticipated to be available for purchase from August 2025, with the first home owners moving in by mid-2026.
Surrounded by rolling paddocks, towering gum trees and mountain views, Halcyon Yandina is within walking distance of Yandina village and just a short drive to Coolum Beach and Noosa Heads. It is expected to feature a range of resort-style facilities, including a 25metre lap pool, sauna, steam room, and clubhouse featuring a gold-class style cinema, games room and private dining spaces. A creative hub will provide a library, workshop and arts studio, while extensive outdoor green spaces will foster connection within the community’s natural surroundings.
All homes will achieve a minimum 7-star Nationwide House Energy Rating Scheme (NatHERS) rating and offer a low-maintenance, lock-up-and-go lifestyle. The land lease model provides financial freedom, with no stamp duty, no deferred management fees and the ability for homeowners to retain 100% of any capital gains.
Expressions of interest are now open and public information sessions will be held from mid June to early July

Register your camera and help solve crime
Have you got security cameras at your home or business?
With more homes and businesses being fitted with security cameras, Queensland Police Service (QPS) would like to invite members of the public to register their cameras.
The Community Camera Alliance is a community safety initiative which was launched in 2021. The initiative gives residents and business owners the opportunity to register their closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras.
Officers will be able to access the details of your registration for the purpose of investigating crime. If police believe that your CCTV system can assist with an investigation, you will be contacted and asked to help. Your registration details are securely stored on the police database and are only accessible by police on approved devices.

COUNCIL NEWS
EMERGENCY LEVY HIKE REVERSED
More than 19,000 Sunshine Coast homeowners have escaped a proposed increase of up to $124 in the State Government’s annual Emergency Service Levy, thanks to strong advocacy from Sunshine Coast Council
Council believed the levy increase was unjustified as there was no evidence of increased service delivery from the Queensland Fire Department for affected areas.
Homeowners in Caloundra South were facing a $124 levy increase, while those in Marcoola, Coolum and Peregian Springs area and at Peregian Beach in Noosa, were set to pay an extra $101.

HOW TO GET YOUR TRICKY RECYCLING QUESTIONS
ANSWERED
Did you know that aluminium and steel household aerosols can be recycled?
Figuring out what items can be recycled can sometimes be confusing.
To help get your recycling sorted, Sunshine Coast Council will be popping up at local shopping centres until September to answer your tricky questions in person.
If you can’t make it to one of the pop ups, Council recommends downloading the handy RecycleMate app.
Using Recycle Mate is the easiest option to find out what can be recycled and where to take your tricky items.
Simply search your item and you’ll be given information on the best disposal option that’s nearest to you. Visit recyclemate.com.au to begin your search.
