On 25 March 2026, Transport and Main Roads Minister Brent Mickelberg MP introduced the Transport and Other Legislation (Managing E-mobility Use and Protecting Our Communities) Amendment Bill 2026 into the Queensland Parliament. The Bill has been referred to the State Development, Infrastructure and Works Committee for detailed review

The committee is now inviting submissions from all interested parties

RELIEF IN SIGHT FOR CLIMBERS AT POPULAR TRAIL

Sunshine Coast residents and visitors will soon benefit from long awaited public amenities at one of the region’s most popular natural attractions.

Construction of the new Mount Coolum facilities, located beside the carpark at the base of the mountain has begun.

The project will deliver a modular amenities block featuring a unisex Persons with Disability (PWD) toilet and three unisex ambulant cubicles, providing much‑needed convenience for the thousands who walk the Mount Coolum National Park track each month

Works are scheduled between 7am and 5pm daily and are expected to be completed by mid‑May 2026, weather and site conditions permitting.

applications now open for $20 million Women’s Career Grants

The Queensland Government has opened second round applications for the life-changing Women's Career Grants program, with grants of up to $5,000 available to help reduce the cost of returning to work and boost women’s economic security.

Following a two-week Expressions of Interest period, Round 2 is officially underway for the $20 million program, after incredible interest and resounding success in Round 1.

More than 1,000 Queensland women were supported through Round 1 and 93 per cent of successful applicants sought assistance across three or more categories - with technology, recertification, and training being the most popular.

Round 2 categories remain the same with assistance available for the costs of new workwear, registered childcare training, recertification, transport to and from job interviews, tools and technology, or relocation expenses fo new employment

to reduce antisocial behaviour in Peregian Springs and Coolum

Police are working with local businesses and the wider community to reduce antisocial behaviour, particularly in the Coolum and Peregian Springs areas.

Officers from Coolum Police Station have been conducting high visibility patrols of busy areas including local shopping precincts, parks and other areas where young people congregate.

As part of these patrols, they have also been conducting wanding under Jack’s Law, using a small handheld metal detector to scan a person for knives and other weapons.

Acting Officer in Charge of Coolum Police Station Senior Sergeant Joel Bryant says most of these interactions have been positive and is reminding parents of their responsibilities.

“It is important that we surround young people with the necessary support to direct them away from the criminal justice system and enable them to positively thrive in our community,” he said

“Community safety starts in the home – and we encourage parents to join with us by setting clear behavioural expectations with their children to keep them, and our community safe.”

“We’re asking parents to work with police in preventing and disrupting any possible anti-social behaviour or offending and to be aware of your child’s whereabouts, who they are with, and what activities they are undertaking.”

Police will continue to remain highly visible in the lead up and during the upcoming school holidays across the entire Sunshine Coast District. You can expect to see police anywhere and at any time, working together with the community to ensure everyone stays safe.

Sunshine Motorway ramps up at Mount Coolum

The Queensland Government is delivering a plan for Queensland's future with the release of a detailed design tender for two new south-facing ramps to the Sunshine Motorway at Mount Coolum.

The project includes an upgraded Sunshine Motorway–West Coolum Road interchange, integrating with Sunshine Coast Regional Council’s plan to connect Suncoast Beach Drive and South Coolum Road to West Coolum Road.

An invitation‑only tender has been sent to a select group of qualified experts to complete the detailed design work for this important upgrade, which will help ease congestion at the busy YandinaCoolum Road roundabout.

To inform the next stage, a draft concept for the two new south facing ramps has also been released for community feedback.

Minister for Transport and Main Roads

Brent Mickelberg said the project was a long‑overdue upgrade that would make a real difference for locals

“Communities like Coolum and Mount Coolum are growing quickly, and they deserve infrastructure that keeps pace,” Minister Mickelberg said.

Community feedback is open until 15 May 2026, and will help inform the next phase of the project

Most popular baby names in 2025 revealed

Queensland’s top baby names for 2025 have been revealed with Oliver and Charlotte retaining their crown as the most popular baby names for boys and girls.

Data released by the Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages of births registered in 2025 revealed 394 newborns were named Oliver and 324 were named Charlotte

Noah was a close second for boys in 2025 with 363 registrations, followed by Theodore, Henry and William in the top 5. Rounding out the most popular boys’ names were Hudson, Luca, Leo, Charlie and new entry Elijah, which knocked Jack out of the top 10 after 30 years on the list.

For girls, the race for second was tight with Amelia recording 255 registrations ahead of Isla with 254 registrations, followed by Olivia, Hazel, Matilda and then Mia.

Floral inspired names also featured strongly in the girls’ top 10, with Violet debuting at eighth place, Lily returning to the list for the first time since 2022 at number nine, and Harper rounding out the top 10

Home ownership dream a reality for more Queenslanders

The Queensland Government is delivering a place to call home for more Queenslanders by adding an additional 500 placements into its nation-leading home-ownership scheme, Boost to Buy.

Round two applications for the scheme opened on 31/3.

The Boost to Buy scheme provides a government equity contribution of up to 30 per cent for new homes and 25 per cent for existing homes, and to be eligible, home buyers need to have saved a minimum 2 per cent deposit for the purchase price of a property up to $1 million

Aspiring first home buyers can apply directly with Unity Bank from today, with 50 per cent of places reserved for those living in regional Queensland.

To be eligible, home buyers will need to have saved a minimum of two per cent deposit and have an annual income of up to $150,000 for single purchasers or $225,000 for households with two adults or singles with dependants.
