COMMUNITY LET’S GET SOCIAL
Bringing Back the Heart of the Community
Sip, Support & Socialise (also referred to as SSS) is a new monthly social gathering held at the Peregian Springs Golf Club on the first Friday of each month.
What began as a simple email invitation to 20 friends quickly grew into a thriving event, with 80 attendees in February and a staggering 130 in March, marking the official launch of Sip, Support & Socialise!
Hello Community recently caught up with the event's warm-hearted and welcoming organisers, Sharon and Loll, longstanding members of the Peregian Springs community.
They observed the lingering impact of COVID isolation on social interactions in the area, with fewer gatherings happening. To counter this, they initiated Sip, Support & Socialise not only to foster an environment of fun and friendship but also to rally behind and demonstrate support for the Peregian Springs Golf Club and its new management.
“Demonstrating our enthusiasm will emphasise the community's backing for the club's revitalisation as a vibrant social hub It's simply our way of showing support,” said Sharon
If you would like to be in the loop regarding future local social events organised by Sharon and Loll please send an email to: sharon.stevens@westnet.com.au

SAFETY UPGRADES FOR COOLUM STUDENTS
Significant work to improve safety and reduce congestion at Coolum State School are about to get underway, with a new Stop Drop and Go area on School Road that will be located further away from the intersection with Yandina Coolum Road.
Ninderry MP Dan Purdie welcomed the news, which he said was another critical piece of the puzzle to bust congestion and improve safety amidst the rapidly growing local population.
He praised the efforts of Coolum State School Principal Anthony Ryan, who has been working with the school’s SafeST committee, Council and TMR to upgrade the drop off area as part of the school’s new Masterplan.

The new drop off area will be located further down School Road to avoid cars trailing back on the roundabout during peak periods, along with 10 new parking spaces.
The work will be done by Council during the upcoming Easter school holidays and has been funded by a $56,500 grant as part of the state’s School Transport Infrastructure Program (STIP).
Further information about the planned works on School Road, which will involve minimal traffic disruption, will be made available by Council.

Their cuisine is modern and the breakfast and lunch menu offers a good variety We tried the Mushroom & Garlic Gnocchi and the Beer Battered Flathead & Chips. Both meals were good in portion size, fresh and tasty and prices were reasonable.

Best Veggie Sausage Rolls

With school holidays here again, it’s a great time to encourage our kids in the kitchen and fill their tummies with good food. Homemade sausage rolls are always a hit in our house, and these veggie packed, meatfree sausage rolls are no exception. Super easy to make.
INGREDIENTS: (makes 24)
Filling:
400g can chickpeas, well-drained
2 slices sandwich bread, roughly chopped
1 small onion, peeled, roughly chopped
1 carrot, unpeeled, roughly chopped
1 apple, peeled, core removed, roughly chopped
1 cup grated cheddar cheese
1 egg
½ cup roughly chopped fresh parsley (or basil, dill or a mix)
2 tsp dried mixed herbs, Italian herbs or oregano
salt and freshly ground black pepper
2 sheets frozen puff pastry, thawed
1 egg, lightly beaten, to glaze
1 tbsp sesame seeds, to sprinkle tops
METHOD: Preheat oven to 190oC and line a large baking tray with baking paper.
Place drained chickpeas in a food processor with remaining filling ingredients.
Process the mixture in short bursts of power (pulse) until finely chopped, but not smooth, (mix will actually resemble sausage mince). Cut sheets of puff pastry in half. Carefully remove mixture from processor and divide evenly between the 4 pastry strips, arranging lengthwise in long sausage shapes. Roll up to enclose filling, overlapping pastry to seal by ½ cm, placing the seam underneath.
Cut each roll into 6 pieces with a sharp knife, and place onto prepared tray. Brush with beaten egg and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
Bake in preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until pastry is golden and puffed. Serve with tomato sauce, chutney or relish.
TIPS: Filling can be made without a processor, simply grate veggies, finely chop onion and bread, and mash chickpeas with a potato masher. Chickpeas can be swapped for 3 bean mix, cannellini or kidney beans.

Rules surrounding e-bikes, e-scooters, and e-motorbikes

Sunshine Coast Police have identified an increased prevalence of e-bikes, e-scooters and e-motorbikes being ridden on footpaths, bike lanes and roadways in contravention of Queensland road rules.
These contraventions often compromise public safety and put the riders and members of the public at risk.
Sunshine Coast Police are reminding the community of the rules surrounding these vehicles.
E-scooter and electric skateboard rules
Electric scooters and electric skateboards are classed as personal mobility devices (PMDs).
Age limits apply to these devices.
A rider MUST be 16+ to operate, or 1215 years old with adult supervision. The maximum speed is 12km/hr on footpaths OR 25km/hr elsewhere. No doubling is allowed. Australian Standard (AS) approved bicycle helmet, or an approved motorbike helmet is required to ride.
Where to ride your e-scooter and electric skateboard:
Paths – footpaths, shared paths, separated paths and bike paths. Local streets (speed limit of 50km/h or less, no dividing centre line).
On-road bike lanes (where the road speed limit is 50km/h or less, or where the lane is physically separated from the road).
Electric bicycles (e-bikes)
An electric bike has a small electric motor designed to assist a rider (up to 200W motor).
The primary propulsion remains the rider pedalling with the assistance of a motor. An electric bike can propel you up to 6km/hr without the need to pedal.
Between 6km/h and 25km/hr, the motor assists you with the power output decreasing as the speed increases. At 25km/h, the electric motor must stop operating (cut out) and you need to pedal to stay above this speed.
E-BIKES, E-SCOOTERS
An e-bike that doesn’t comply with this list can only be ridden on private property (i.e: petrol powered bikes, capable of generating over 200w, and an electric bike where the electric motor is the primary source of power).
Australian Standard (AS) approved bicycle helmet, or an approved motorbike helmet is required.
Fines apply to riders of e-scooters, eskateboards and e-bikes who break the road rules.
If you have information for police, contact Policelink by providing information using the online suspicious activity form 24hrs per day at www.police.qld.gov.au/reporting.
Report crime information anonymously via Crime Stoppers. Call 1800 333 000 or report online at www.crimestoppersqld.com.au
Electric Dirt Bikes (Sur-Ron, RFN style and similar)
These electric dirt bikes are motorbikes and are dealt with in the same manner as a normal petrol-powered dirt bike as per the TORUM definition – two wheeled motor vehicle.
To be ridden on the road, the rider MUST have a licence (RE or R licence – C class if maximum speed 50km/hr or less).
They also MUST be registered.
Some electric dirt bikes have a road legal version so can be ridden on a road if it is registered/insured and operated by a licenced rider.

BE AWARE: BITUMEN SCAMMERS IN THE SUNSHINE COAST AREA
Sunshine Coast Police are warning the community to be aware of bitumen scammers.
Bitumen scammers use high pressure sales techniques to convince their victims to employ them to reseal their driveways.
The scammers often use fake identification and will not be part of a legitimate business. Scammers will either demand payment upfront and then refuse to do the work or complete the work to a very poor quality and use threats and intimidation to obtain payment.

LOOKOUTFOR BITUMENSCAMMERS ALERT!
If you think you are being scammed, try the following:
Give a firm refusal; a reputable business won’t be upset if you refuse their services
Seek more information from independent sources such as family, friends, websites or past clients.
Reputable businesses will be happy to provide you with full contact details so that you can follow-up on their services. Obtain a written quote.
Seek an agreement with the person offering the service that all monies will be paid at the satisfactory completion of the job and not up front.
Regulatory authorities who are responsible for license and regulation of various trades such as plumbing, building and electrical etc, should be contacted to ascertain if the person is currently licensed.
If your inquiries reveal the business is legitimate, you can always contact them later.
If you believe you have been affected by this scam please contact the Office of Fair Trading or your local Police Station.
If you feel threatened by a person claiming to be from a company, tell them to leave, close the door and call 000 immediately.
