December

ven if we are not kids anymore, no one can deny the magic of December.

This month made us full of feelings.

Christmas, holidays, family reunions, New Year parties, all these situations can give us reasons to smile or the opposite.

Personally I love this period, I’m that type of person who prefer forgive all just to sit all together at same table at Christmas. Maybe it may sound stupid or mushy, but I think feelings are the most important thing for humans. Without these we are nothing.

So I’m happy to celebrate, whatever is the reason (and I always find many ahah).

Hope you will have time to spend with your family, friends and enjoy it. Also, think to all amazing things you can do next year like I will do watching the fireworks.

Editor’s letter

Meet the photographer duo of our wonderful shoot, Pascal and Arno from PAAR photography! They are channeling ‘couple goals’ from all aspects. Business partners, lovers, best friends… What else would you want? Working as models before they started their photography careers, Pascal and Arno is just the best photographers you can get. Understanding the model due to their previous experience, giving directions and shooting along the way, PAAR just wins fashion-photography.

Pascal as an Art Director and Arno as a Business Director, the pair is the combination of our dreams, which is no surprise as they take dreams and bring it to reality with their photography. For our shoot PAAR took Dalida’s story to their photography. Believing the idea of story-telling through pictures, discover the modern story of Dalida through Pascal and Arno…

LATEST: How did you start photography?

PAAR: It all came together while we were living abroad, working as models. We bought a Canon-camera, a Sunbounce and shot the models we were living together with in the model-houses to build up a book. For styling we just went to fashion-outlets like MANGO & ZARA to buy the ‘extreme’ items nobody liked to wear but looked fantastic on pictures.

LATEST: Why did you decide to work together?

PAAR: It just felt naturally. Pascal has a great eye for details, composition and is a very good art-director, while I (Arno) more like to bring the team together, casting the model, finding locations and keeping contact with clients.

Besides being lovers & best-friends, we are good colleagues.

LATEST: How would you describe photography? Do you consider it as a form of art?

PAAR: photography can be art. Each project needs a different approach. If its a commercial job it’s of course photography but not art. Working on a non-commissioned project, and having the freedom of creating can create a form of art.

We do not see our work as a higher form of art but of course we let other people decide if they tike to put our work on the wall.

LATEST: How do you find a theme and a photography subject? Does it come naturally or do you plan ahead?

PAAR: We travel a lot, watch lots of movies, always listen to music and read many historical articles. This way we find inspiration for our shoots. I (Arno) like to refer to inspiring and authentic people in our shoots, like we did with the Daphne Guinness & Dalida story.

LATEST: Who inspires your work, who do you look upto?

PAAR: We do not have one specific photographer who inspires us. But there are many talented photographers who we admire for their great moment capturing and others for their massive productions. You need to build a great team around yourself.

INTERVIEW LATEST: For our shoot, the theme is revolved around Dalida, what inspired you?

PAAR: First of all she’s an icon, selling 170 million albums world-wide, she was one of France’s best selling artist ever.

Also she played in 12 movies. Somehow she seems to be forgotten by the “new generation”. Also her tragic life story appeals to the imagination; surviving 3 lovers and in the end committing suicide…

LATEST: Do you think photography can send messages to the observer? If so, what were you trying to say with this theme?

PAAR: Of course photography can send a message like the disturbing pictures at World Press Photo or the famous Vogue fashion-story by Steven Meisel “Water & Oil” about the pollution in 2010. Our Dalida-story is “just” a tribute to her and the idea of ‘disco is fun’. So we tried to create that vibe and atmosphere.

LATEST: During your shoots, do you tell what the models should do or do you capture moments naturally?

PAAR: It works both ways. Most of the time we direct the models because we have the picture already in our head. Still we appreciate the model’s own input and we love communicating with the rest of the team to get the perfect image.

Most of the time the inbetween shots works for us the best, you direct, the model anticipates on that, and then there’s this moment. Boom .... or click! Hahaha LATEST: Many believe that getting photographed without noticed gives the best images… Do you believe that?

PAAR: Not for our kind of photography. But shooing documentary, we can imagine it gives great and unexpected results. Although we also like the “in-between” shots while shooting our own stories.

LATEST: If you could arrange a shoot with anyone in the past or now, who would that be?

PAAR: Wouldn’t it be amazing to shoot a fashion-story with all the big 90s super models? That would have been so cool.

1)The tradition of wearing red in the holiday season is even more popular now. Wearing all red is the most loved trend this season as you can see on many bloggers pages! This year’s trends are in our favour with 80s glamour and 90s chic. Celebrities and fashion muses around the world has started wearing the trendiest items of Winter fashion to prep us for the party season. Nail two trends in one look, with sequins and red combined you will be the eye-catch of any party you walk into! 3) Although parties maybe the best part of the holiday season, finding the perfect gift for your beloved is the hardest. Well we’ve rounded up some gifts that would say ‘I love you’ without actually stating it on the gift. Imagine yourself in their position, what gift would possibly make you the happiest person in Christmas? If you’re buying a gift for your significant other or your father, think of their personality. Sporty? Hard Working? Amusing? Adventurous?

Creative? This will prevent you from making mistakes!

4) I can hear you saying how about my sister, mother or best friend? Well getting the right gift for a woman is even harder than a man! Women are more aware of the latest fashion so it can be quite difficult to pick the right gift. Instead of investing in clothes that may not fit the person you are gifting, try to buy accessories that they can use for the long-term. I can confidently say that most women are obsessed with shoes and bags, so use this to your advantage to make the special people in your life ecstatic. If your grandmother loves flowers, find a floral patterned gift and make her carry her lovely flowers everywhere. If your mother enjoys listening to music while she reads, gift her a fashionable earphone. The options are limitless, just consider the one thing that they enjoy the most!

Working in the fashion industry for over 20 years, Austrian photographer Andreas Ortner has brought the world to us through his camera lenses. Who thought an analogue Pentax camera could change a man’s and an industries future?

Andreas has brought dreams of designers’ to life through his brilliant techniques. Initiating his photography career, Andreas has worked with countless celebrities and models, yet preserved his humbleness.

Just like the emotions you feel when you look at an artwork, Andreas Ortner’s photography recreates these feelings through his pictures. From Vogue to Harper’s Bazaar, to Elle, the skilled photographer has tapped his magic to many renowned magazines and designers. Andreas also worked with Rebecca Longendyke, our August Cover, for Vogue Italy. Inspired by travelling and cultures, discover Andreas capture fashion in the most outstanding way…

LATEST: How did you decide to be a photographer?

ANDREAS: Photography and film was always a medium that I showed interest in. About 12 years ago I found an old analog Pentax Camera in flea market in Brooklyn and started to shoot newcomer models in New York. I Guess the agencies liked what I was doing and I got more and more paid for bookings.

LATEST: We heard that you like analogue photography, in what ways is it different than digital photography?

ANDREAS: The whole process of analog photography is much slower. You take more time and think before taking a picture. It’s the process of creating an image in your head before you even take a picture.

It’s the process of creating an image in your head before you even take a picture, and spend the 12 pics on the film wisely and be well prepared. The precise work on analog cameras is what I like the most. Less is more. Quality before quantity is the key.

LATEST: How would you describe fashion photography?

ANDREAS: As a fashion photographer, I try to create an image based on the inspiration of the designers while designing a collection. All designers have an idea and an inspiration whilst designing a collection.

I take inspiration from this inspiration and make it my own. Often, I get mails form designers thanking me for shooting a picture that is perfect for the dress they designed.

These days you have all the freedom as a fashion photographer working for big magazines such as Vogue or Harpers. There are almost no rules which allows me to think outside the box.

LATEST: Who are the inspirations of your work?

ANDREAS: I find my inspirations from my travels around the world. From architecture to movies…

Also different cultures and tribes give me inspiration.

LATEST: Where is your favourite spot to shoot?

ANDREAS: There are so many places around the world I like to shoot, but the most spectacular shootings I’ve done was in Iceland so far.

LATEST: If the camera wasn’t invented, what do you think you’d be doing now?

ANDREAS: To be honest, I have no idea… I do have a lot of interests, but photography is my true passion.

LATEST: If you could shoot anyone or anything, who or what would that be?

ANDREAS: All presidents and leaders around the world, naked.

Picture yourself walking to your local gym, the warmth strongly hitting you, having finally arrived to your destination, bracing yourself to workout in a room full of equipments, and possibly several individuals. If not, do not worry.

It is understandable that working out religiously in the gym, particularly in this hot weather can be very difficult at times.

But what if I told you: you can lose calories, reach your desired goals, look stylish doing so and, enjoy the fresh air and sun.

This can be accomplished by playing some of the most popular and amusing outdoor sports. Which sports you may ask?

Of course I’m referring to; Tennis, Volleyball, Badminton, Running and cycling.

There’s just something very therapeutic about working out in the fresh air.

You will be embracing the atmosphere you’re in, appreciating the scenery surrounding you, and taking in the fresh air like never before.

Whether you’re a beginner at playing volleyball or the next Serena Williams as you step onto that court, the aftermath of the work out will leave a smile on your face.
