NEWS FLASH HELIX ELECTRIC SUMMER 2022

The first half of the year is already behind us, and what an amazing run we have had at Helix Electric. We kicked off 2022 with a number of ambitious goals in mind, and together we have worked harder than ever to successfully deliver them to our customers, our partners, and our shareholders. While our first seven months have not been without challenges, I am extremely proud of our accomplishments and the work being done by our entire team.

Finally, as we move into the second half of our year, I want to reiterate how much I appreciate everyone on our team. Your communication and collaboration are proving to be successful each and every day. We will continue to lead the Nevada and Utah with our outstanding performance; lets continue to do so safely and profitably.

Everyone’s dedication and commitment are greatly appreciated. We continue to successfully complete our jobs and projects, each with an outstanding safety performance and competent work. This accomplishment is not only appreciated and recognized by me and within our company, but also by our customers who share the same values as we do. And we thank each one of our customers for their business and the level of trust they put in our team to handle all of their commercial electrical needs. There is no team like The Helix Team. And there is no “way” like “The Helix Way”. I am continuously blown away by the care and pride in which we place on our work and with one another. Helix Electric truly is a family. Our family was on display this past spring as we finally had the opportunity to assemble as a group and held our 2022 all company retreat. We received so much great feedback from our team members regarding the programming. But for me the true success was having us all back together again. Nothing epitomizes our company culture more than the investments we make on bringing our family and families together. Whether it be the Retreat, our holiday parties or company picnics, the chance for us all to gather is priceless. And something I know I will never take for granted again. As the Economy continues to put the pandemic in the rear-view mirror, we are still dealing with lingering problems that are impacting our labor market. It is hard to believe that today in America and particularly Nevada, we have more job openings that exceed available workers, and by a large margin. The fact that we have been able to continue to perform at such a high level is once again a tribute to the commitment of our team members. And with that said, we recognize the strain and toll this labor market has had on our team members. It’s almost cliche to say at this point that the best companies are born in times of adversity. But as is often the case with cliches, it happens to be true. We believe the markets that we are in provide a terrific opportunity for great companies to recruit amazing people and strengthen our market position. Our team is doing everything we can to attract talented people to help ease the burden of our backlog. Too much work is a “good quality problem” – but it is a problem nonetheless!

NORTHERN NV NORTHERN NEVADA CODY KINNISON VICE PRESIDENT OPERATIONS As we close the second quarter, I’m thankful for your continued support and dedication. We’ve celebrated many successes thus far which include our company picnic in June. A day filled with fun and a chance for all to interact amongst our fellow team members and families. Lastly, I want to personally thank you all for everything you do and humbled to work with all of you. Fun and festivities at the 2022 Reno Family Picnic.

ESTIMATING & DESIGN BUILD

In Las Vegas

Hello Helix Family! We are now more than halfway through 2022 already!! The estimating team is plugging right along. We had an amazing first quarter with $100 million in sales. When Helix has a lot of sales, that means we are going to have a lot of project turnover meetings (Estimating to Operations). We are having turnover meetings almost on a daily basis. Even with the current inflation issues, we are still seeing quite a few opportunities, especially in the areas of Multi Family, Large Manufacturing. We are also expecting to see quite a bit of activity from CCSD coming along the second half of summer.

Andy Bedora now has leaders under him that he can rely upon to direct the engineering and design staff. Along with the efforts of the entire Design Build staff, Reed Stout and Jason Miller have key to making this shift happen. The shift in reporting structure seems to be working well. Our next step will be to transition form “working well” to “working very well” and we are trending that way. In Reno we were fortunate enough to find Alex Zotescu to head up our Reno Design Build Operation. Alex has now relocated from Florida to Reno, and we are looking forward to the impact he will make in the Reno market. Our leadership team of Andy Bedora, Alex Zotescu, William Rubio, Darren Vanderford and Dave Wood are having regular sessions with our 3rd party consultant, and we are continuing to develop better Standard Operating Procedures, Production and Quality Assurance.

Helix has been fortunate enough to accumulate some real nice back log which allows us to be very strategic and targeted in our current marketplace. We look forward to seeing what opportunities will arise in the 3rd quarter. Our Design Build Team has been in a very rapid growth trend. With our rapid growth, we rapidly found out that we needed to take another look at our approach. We brought our team leaders together and came up with a new leadership structure that would help us become a more effective and efficient Design Build Department.

A view into the new Salt Lake City office ABC Excellence Awards

I received a call from Grand Canyon Development in Las Vegas. They happened to be managing a new project up here in Salt Lake City. They asked me for references of General Contractors who could do some renovation work at two of the convention centers up here. I gave them three different contractors. One happens to be my wife’s cousin and he actually won the job. We’re halfway through the job now and even though it’s a difficult remodel, things are going really well. The point here is, because we’ve developed a good relationship with Grand Canyon in Las Vegas, it translated into us getting a project in Salt Lake City. Doing a good job and exceeding our customer’s expectations is a big deal. Even though electrical work is what we do, this will always be a PEOPLE business. Taking care of our customer’s needs translates to long term success.

We’ve moved! Our new office space was completed a couple of months ago and we couldn’t be more excited to be here. If any of you happen to be in Salt Lake City, feel free to stop in and say Hi to everyone.

• Madi Bell recently hired on as a new PM. She was previously working with Cache Valley Electric.

The Helix Picnic is scheduled for August 13. This will be our first one with all employees and families. We’re looking forward to finally getting to meet everyone. We won our first award up here. We won the ABC Excellence in Construction Award for the Pendry Hotel. Hopefully this will be the first of many to come. Some of our projects now are finally taking off. We have piers and footings being poured on our 7-story downtown parking structure, and two of our larger apartment projects, Current and ATRE. I think it’s easy to take for granted the pace at which Las Vegas construction operates. It’s not like that everywhere. We’ve recently picked up a large utility project for Big-D. The Utah Transit Authority’s new depot needed a whole new loop and feed from Rocky Mountain Power. This will be our first project with Big-D who is the parent company of Martin-Harris. A quick story about connections.

This second quarter has been a busy one across the regions. We have had many apprentices graduate the ABC this past June. June 10th the ABC or Southern Nevada celebrated the Las Vegas area graduates. We had a total of ten apprentices graduating that night.

TRAINING DEPARTMENT

SUMMER 2022 HELIX ELECTRIC 9

June twenty fourth the northern trust of ABC celebrated the apprentices in Reno. Helix had two apprentices graduate that night.

JEFF SATTERFIELD | TRAINING MANAGER

We are starting a new program this July. Be on the lookout for this QR code around the offices. When you scan the codes, this will take you to a training minute. These training pieces will be on various topics, from the NEC to leadership skills. We will be updating every two weeks. If you have a particular topic you would like to see, send us an email.

In addition to the training minute, we have started a series of classes covering the basics of tools and skills. These short classes will be geared to the starting electrician. Wire termination and connections, pipe threading, hole saw and KO set, hand tools and power tools will be some of the first classes. These will be quick classes held after work so let your crews know and encourage them to sign up.

We have added a new team mate to the department. I would like to introduce Melissa Stevens. She moved to Las Vegas with her boyfriend from Portland Oregon. They relocated for work and to get away from the rain and dreariness of the pacific northwest. On her first day with us she got to experience her first thunderstorm in Las Vegas. She enjoys mountain biking and hiking and will be exploring the surrounding areas. She will be the point of contact and able to assist with requests for training and certifications. I am excited with the experience and attitude that she is going to bring to the department.

SUMMER 2022 HELIX ELECTRIC 10

Prefabrication is the practice of assembling components of a structure in a manufacturing site and transporting complete assemblies or sub-assemblies to the construction site where the structure is to be located and permanently installed.

Prefab prides itself on its ability to train and prepare the revolving door of employees working to get into the ABC Apprenticeship program. Our main goal is to start new employees in Prefab so they may learn the ins and outs of the Electrical Trade within a controlled environment. We help them to become comfortable with the knowledge, tools, and culture while they go through the long chore of getting accepted into the program. In this latest round, nineteen individuals made it in. Out of those nineteen, fifteen were Helix employees. Out of those fifteen Helix employees, six were from the Prefab Department.

• Minimize the intake of diuretic beverages such as alcohol, coffee, tea, or energy drinks. Diuretic beverages do not rehydrate your body making you more susceptible to heat illness.

• Provide cool drinking water to employees and ensure water is in their immediate working area. If employees are on aerial lifts, they should have water with them on the lift. It is recommended employees drink at least 16 ounces of water an hour.

SUMMER 2022 HELIX ELECTRIC 12 SAFETY LAWRENCE FRY | REGIONAL SAFETY MANAGER

WE CAN PREVENT HEAT-RELATED ILLNESSES

BY FOLLOWING SEVERAL KEY GUIDELINES.

• Train our employees on heat exposures, what to look out for, how to prevent heat illness, and procedures to follow if they or a fellow employee are showing signs or symptoms of heat-related illness.

Some Don’t Like It Hot It’s that time of the year where hot weather affects all of us. The heat is compounded by the work we perform and the PPE we use. Uncontrolled and excessive exposure to heat can cause illness and even death in some cases. The heat is compounded by the work we perform and the PPE we use. Uncontrolled and excessive exposure to heat can cause fatigue, illness and even death in some cases. The most serious heat illness is heatstroke. Other heat illnesses more commonly experienced by workers are heat exhaustion, heat cramps, and heat rash. The risk factors for heat illness are high body temperatures, direct sun exposure, or no breeze and wind. Even indoors, employees can suffer heat-related illnesses if the air is not circulating. Other risk factors are heavy physical labor, insufficient hydration, clothing, and not being acclimated to hot conditions. We have a lot of new employees who may not have previously performed our type of work before or have not worked in the same hot environments as we do. Acclimatization to heat can take days or even weeks. Symptoms of heat exhaustion are headache, dizziness, fainting, weakness, wet skin, irritability, confusion, nausea, cramping, or vomiting. Symptoms of heatstroke may include confusion, unable to think clearly, passing out, hot or dry skin, or seizures. Heat illness prevention is extremely important. OSHA has even launched a heat illness prevention National Emphasis Program. Helix has a heat illness prevention policy. It is in Section 5, Tab 8A of our Written Safety & Health Programs manual. Within that policy we have job postings and a quiz we can provide employees as part of a site-specific toolbox talk. It’s hard to beat the heat this time of the year. However, we have processes and procedures in place to keep our employees safe and prevent heat-related illnesses.

Typical

• Have shade tents and protective clothing that provides cooling such as hard hat neck shades and hard hat sweatbands. For additional protection there are products that are designed to be submerged in water, which include evaporative cooling bandanas, neck towels, and vests. Another great product is cooling mist fans. These fans can be stand-alone or be fitted onto a bucket and provide a moist breeze.

summer afternoon

• Modify work schedules to start and finish earlier. Rearrange more labor-intensive tasks earlier in the day. Increase break times and frequency if needed.

• Wear lightweight, light-colored, loose-fitting clothes.

• Provide electrolyte replacement freezer pops. However, they shouldn’t be used more than once or twice a day. Water should be the primary fluid we consume.

FRANK FARINA | IT DIRECTOR

After months of work, and in partnership with HR, we are excited to announce that UKG has been launched. UKG is Helix’s new Human Resource Information System (HRIS). It represents another key step forward in the adoption of technology to improve what we do and how we do it.

Use the ServiceDesk app on

IT DEPARTMENT

What does this mean for you?

• You will need to work with the HR team to process any changes in UKG that you would normally use PowerNet for (i.e. compensation changes, title changes, separations).

• You will be able to do these yourself in UKG as you would have through PowerNet. UKG will handle the approval process for changes where applicable. Can’t find UKG? Reach out to the Service Desk at itsupport@helixelectric.com. your Okta homepage your request.

• The exceptions to this are the Attendance Request, Status Change (which can now only be used for allowances), and Job Change (which is only to be used for job changes). Time cards, expense reports, and IT HW/SW requests are still on PowerNet as that functionality is not covered by UKG.

Effective immediately, PAFs are no longer available on PowerNet.

SERVICE LAS VEGAS MCTEER | SERVICE PROJECT EXECUTIVE

The Las Vegas service team has seen a lot of changes this year already and I am so proud to say that we have adjusted very well.
