A LETTER FROM VICTOR I hope this finds 2022 off to an incredible start for everyone. My hope is that 2022 will allow us to reflect on those things that are so important in life, to value the friendships and family that grace us, and to appreciate the opportunities that present themselves to us and our business in the coming months. To start I want to take a moment to look back on 2021 and thank you all for your contributions over the past year. 2021 was another transformative year for Helix Electric. It was a year in which we strengthened our business further, growing our Helix Family by welcoming new team members and rolled out important initiatives that will help to guarantee our continued success in the future. Among these were the extensive investment we’ve made in our Salt Lake City office. And with the help and vision of so many throughout our team we completed our first full year of operations in 2021. I was proud to see how quickly we adapted to each new challenge and how teams from across our company collaborated with one another to make the most of every opportunity. Working together we made good progress toward our strategic goals despite significant challenges – not the least of which were ongoing disruptions from the pandemic that continued to have such a substantial impact on our own work and home lives, as well as on the lives of our customers. When 2021 started we thought Covid would or could be a distant memory. And while the outlook for 2022 is once again promising, thanks to your spirit, we can confidently share, we are ready for whatever 2022 brings us. Over the past year you’ve all demonstrated over and over our strengths as an organization and made clear that when it comes to Helix Electric, the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. This is because we are an ambitious team that sets high goals and employ a talented team that works hard to achieve them.

Our work today is more important than ever. The work we do and the services we provide are an integral part of people’s lives. Our customers rely on us to do good work, to support them and keep them informed, and I’m pleased to say that in all three of our market’s we are recognized as THE BEST because of YOUR efforts. 2022 is set to be another exciting year for us. We can look forward to working further on the many initiatives to deliver the best electrical construction and outstanding customer service in our markets. I want to thank you for your continued commitment and effort. Every one of us has an important role to play in the work ahead and I’m confident that together Helix Nevada will continue achieve great things.I Cannot wait to see many of you in Mesquite for our long overdue company retreat! As we continue to roll into 2022, I would like to thank all Department 48 employees and all the supporting staff from our corporate office in Las Vegas. In October, Chris Paris joined us to further enhance our business development efforts. He joins Darren Vanderford and Pete Fontano, as well as members of the Las Vegas Estimating Team in the pursuit of new projects for the Reno office. It’s exciting for me to share with you some of our featured Reno projects completed in 2021. We’re thrilled to have the opportunity to help with the housing crisis we continue to see within our community! I look forward to another outstanding year and I appreciate the continued efforts by everybody to help us continue to be best electrical contractor in Reno.

EMORY AT PARK LANE Park Lane, an iconic shopping center in Reno, is undergoing a revitalization to become a lifestyle resort property. The 46-acre redevelopment features luxury apartments, a 5-star hotel, dining, bars, and boutique shopping. Emory - Design Assist 7-story parking garage with 320 parking spots wrapped with 282 units. The Emory facility includes EV chargers in the parking garage, WIFI access throughout the complex, state-of-the-art clubhouse, yoga center, fitness center, outdoor pool and spa, a courtyard which includes festoon lighting, seating areas, firepits, a barbeque island, and large LED screen. The project entailed coordinating (4) 1000Kva utility electrical services which feed the (8) 1000amp meter groups, (1) 2000amp switchboard for the house power system and (1) 1600amp commercial tenant spaces. The emergency power back up 150kw generator feeds the emergency power equipment, elevator, and lightings systems. The CCTV and access control systems assure the safety of the residents.

BASECAMP Design Assist - is a 340-unit apartment complex encompassed in (2) 5-story and (1) 4-story buildings. The developer heavily focuses on the amenity spaces throughout its projects to give the tenants a resort feel that includes a 5th floor heated outdoor deck, fitness center, indoor basketball court, yoga room, weight room, common room with kitchen/relaxing area/pool table, a very impressive pool/spa area that includes a large LED screen tv, BBQ/pizza oven, and outdoor fire pit. The entire project has an audio system throughout the common areas and a security system that includes CCTV cameras and an access control system. The project consists of (2) 1200 amp main switchboards in building A, (1) 2000amp main switchboard and (2) 1200 amp main switchboards in building B , and (1) 2000amp main switchboard and (2) 1200 amp main switchboards in building C.

PARK PLACE STUDENT HOUSING This project is a 7-story, 359 fully furnished units with 762 beds for the students at University of Reno. A 7-story parking structure with 373 vehicle and 367 bicycle spaces. Park Place includes a rooftop pool, spa, basketball court, fitness area, private theatre, golf simulator along with soundproof study areas. There are two courtyards with lounge areas, grilling stations and its own dog park!

This project has a 4000-amp, 3000 amp and a 2500-amp service with a 225kw backup generator. The project also incorporates a complete DAS, fire alarm, low voltage, security and card access control. Exterior Park Place basketball court

UTAH NATHAN GOODRICH OPERATIONS MANAGER SALT LAKE CITY As Salt Lake City continues to grow, we’ve recently picked up several new projects. ATRE at Sugar House ($7.4M) has 348 units divided between two separate buildings located across the street from each other. The south building is 5 stories of wood construction over 3 levels of parking and the north building is 7 stories over 3 levels of parking. We also recently landed West Quarter Block C ($9.4M). This is a 16-story, 321 unit apartment building located in downtown SLC. This is a design assist project. We’re tasked with helping the electrical engineer to complete his drawings. This was a great win for us because it’s our first job with a new client Jacobsen Construction. Jacobsen is one of the “Big 4” here in Utah.
comes to us from Toyota but earlier in her career she spent many years at Briggs in Reno. We will also be onboarding in the next few months another PE and two new PMs. If any of you have ever been to our office, you’re probably wondering where all these people are going to sit. Our current office is only about 2,000 sf. We have two people in about every office with another desk set up by our reception desk. Luckily our new office location is almost finished. We’ll be moving in a few weeks and are excited to be moving to a place where we will all fit.
With added work, we’ve had to add staff. We’ve added two new PEs, Jordan Fredrickson and Mitchell Martin. Jordan is a graduate from Oklahoma State University and Mitch is currently a sophomore at UVU. Jordan has been helping operations and Mitch has been working with Porter and the estimating department. Due to the additional new projects, came the need to increase our staff we’ve brought on board another Engineer, Stephanie Halls to help with Andy. Stephanie

The Pendry project, situated at the Canyons Village at Park City Mountan Resort in Utah, is a 6-story residential condominium building, 232,375 sq ft, 152-units with 2 levels of underground parking totaling 44,908 sq ft. The total gross building area was 526,834 sq ft above and below grade.

ESTIMATING & DESIGN BUILD DAVE WOOD | VICE PRESIDENT, ESTIMATING It is hard to believe Spring 2022 is nearly upon us. Helix Estimating and Design Build have been very busy as we closed 2021 with a record smashing Fourth Quarter with over $100 million in sales and finished the year with more than $230 million total sales (Las Vegas, Reno and Salt Lake City). Our Design Build Department has also been running at a record pace as they are currently managing the engineering and design on what will equate to over $200 million in electrical contracts!! Due to the fact our design build department has experienced so much rapid growth, Andy Bedora, Alex Zotescu, and Darren Vanderford are working to overhaul refine our design build processes. It is good to see Helix have some nice “high profile” anchor projects in each region. In addition to the projects feature below, our Residential Estimating group (headed by Lou Smith) has landed nearly $50 million in new projects during the past 90 days.

SWITCH (RENO) OPENING OPPORTUNITIES Installation of the Electrical system conduits, back boxes, cabling, terminations at devices for the SWITCH RNO NAP-1 AHU 1-10. The project is a 46,048 sq ft data center fire alarm system for FPS Contractors.
At the time of this writing last year, we were very excited to announce that we had landed our first every Switch Data Center buildout. One year later and not only did we complete a very successful project, our team did such a great job of impressing the client(s) (Switch & Layton Construction) it has led to more work with BOTH clients.
Hats off to Bill Culver and Brian Sisneros for doing such an admirable job leading our team during such a difficult time (Pandemic) with two first-time clients.

next project ‘Amazon VGT1’. ‘Amazon VGT1 Photovoltaic Solar Array’ is the second project that uses PanelClaw System as the racking component to mount the panels. It is a roof floating system, meaning it is not attached to the roof. The array is ballasted with cinder blocks placed in specific location to add weight to the system from any wind loads. The Solar Array has 2808 450W panels broken into (17) 3-phase Chint Power Inverters ranging from 50KW to 60KW. Each panel has a Rapid Shutdown Device from AP
Smart installed in the DC circuit. The LAS1 location was a challenge and learning experience throughout the project. There were strict Amazon specific requirements that needed to be incorporated into the design of the project which included multiple third-party engineers and inspections to approve the system. Adjustments and learning experiences throughout the design and installation of LAS1 will now greatly benefit us in the new upcoming VGT1 project and future rooftop solar projects, including new efficient design of utilizing cable tray on the roof for all DC solar panel connections instead of rigid conduit. The project was a success and we have created a great relationship with IGS Solar, the PPA owner of the project, as well as the Amazon solar team. These relationships will continue to grow and allow Helix to possibly receive new future solar projects for Amazon buildings.
COMING & GOING Leeann Clement, P.E Leeann Clement is expecting TWINS in May 2022. Congratulations Leeann, we can’t wait to meet your girls! Jared Lindley, P.E Jared started in October 2021. He’s working with Wade on CAE TI, and Via Inspirada, while still taking classes at UNLV. Keely Ruiz, P.A. Our newest Project Assistant, starting in November 2021, and has been a great addition to our department! Allen Castillo, P.E Joined us in January 2022. His background in both the field and as a Project Coordinator brings a balanced asset to our team!

This project won ABC’s National Excellence in Construction Pyramid award. The two traveled San Antonio to accept the award. Both Janiel and Kenny worked very hard to achieve this prestegious award congratulations again! We have new curriculum training for Superintendents and Project Engineer to Project Manager as well. ERIC OPSTEDAHL PREFABRICATION DIRECTOR Let me introduce a couple of our awesome Prefab Team members! Carlene Okamoto, Prefab Quality Control Coordinator Carlene was recruited by a friend in April of 2018 where she started in the Prefab shop. She was encouraged to join the ABC program where she is now a 4A. Carlene spent some time in the field before ultimately finding her home back in Prefab leading the quality control for Prefab assemblies.

Carlene lives by the saying, “Nobody’s perfect. Everyone makes mistakes. But some mistakes will teach you great lessons and make you a better person.” Carlene is trusted to teach the younger generation coming into the trade and helps ensure good quality product gets shipped out of Prefab.
Matt Bennison, Tool Department Manager In an effort to perform a complete overhaul of the Tool Department, Matt was chosen to oversee the establishment of new processes that will fundamentally help tool up and tool down jobsites effectively and accurately. Matt has extensive managerial background in hospitality and enjoys taking on new challenges. In his free time, Matt enjoys spending time with friends and family, off roading and travelling.

T R A I N I N G D E PA R T M E N T JEFF SATTERFIELD | TRAINING MANAGER We wanted to give some recognition to Eicaiah Solis as he competes in San Antonio to represent Helix Electric and the ABC of Nevada at the National Craft Championship competition. Eicaiah competed in January and won the skills competition. The National Craft Championship honors the best the merit shop construction industry has to offer. NCC is a part of ABC’s effort to raise the profile of careers in construction and highlight the $1.1 billion that ABC member companies spend annually on workforce development. Each year the competition draws some of the nation’s most talented craft professionals and highlights the important role that craft skills education plays in the construction industry.

BOOTCAMP
The first class of roper bootcamp has started. David Gilbreath has revamped the program and will be running both the classroom and jobsite trainings. The new program will have the ropers working through three phases of skills.
The first session will be on boxing and layout. The second session will cover drilling and pulling branch circuits. The final session will have them terminating and making up units. In addition to the jobsite work, the ropers will be assigned classwork to help round out skills to help make them productive. We will be running the program through the coming spring and summer. With the backlog of multifamily work, Dave and the ropers are going to be kept busy. Electrical Safety Professionals has made some changes to the electrical qualifications
card renewal process. To renew for Electrical Journeyman, you need 18 hours of instruction by approved providers. Master electrical you need a total of 30 hours of which 8 hours needs to be from a code change class highlighting code changes to the current edition (2020 version) of the National Electrical Code and 4 hours must be on electrical safety based on the NFPA70E current edition. The balance of CEU’s can be on electrical code or safety related topics. The link to ESP’s website is https:// electricalsafetypro.org/?page_id=2008 here you will find the online application and information on testing and licensing.
We just received accreditation from ICC for a NFPA70E CEU class based on the 2021 edition, this will be open to all employees, no approval is required. We will be scheduling various CEU classes for the coming months. If you have any questions on renewing or obtaining your license, reach out to the training department.

I T D E PA R T M E N T FRANK FARINA | CHIEF INFORMATION OFFICER We are reaching out to everyone to share more exciting news on changes with Helix’s IT infrastructure. We are beginning the transition of all things files @ Helix to a new platform called Egnyte. When this transition complete you will have access to any file, from any device, anytime, and anywhere (no VPN connection required). You will of course still need to have permissions to files to see them.
Can’t find Egnyte? Reach out to the Service Desk at itsupport@helixelectric.com. Use the ServiceDesk app on your Okta homepage to track your request
We are going to complete the rollout in phases. We will share more information and training as we work through these phases so stay tuned for regular updates. The first phase will be to push Egnyte out to all Helix computers and to lay the foundation for next steps. This will be happening over the course of this week and next. At some point over this time, you will notice that you have a new H: drive and P: drive in File Explorer. The H: (Helix) drive is where all common files at Helix will go. The P: (Private) drive is where your private work-related files will go. Only you have access to the files in your P: drive (besides IT Administrators). Note that we have configured Egnyte to automatically sync the files in your Desktop, Documents, and Pictures folders from your computer to your P: drive.
Effective immediately you will see an Egnyte chiclet/tile on your Okta Dashboard. This chiclet is an easy way to get into Egnyte and access your files in your browser. You are welcome to explore there but we will be sending more information and providing training on that shortly. When Egnyte gets pushed to your computer you may see the following window pop up. Simply enter your email address and Okta will verify that it is you. You should only have to do this once.

SAFET Y LAWRENCE FRY | REGIONAL SAFETY MANAGER Promotion Announcement Helix has promoted Angela Adams to an Area Safety Coordinator position. Angela worked as a Project Safety Manager for Helix beginning in June of last year at the Pendry project in Utah. She currently is a certified Construction and Health Safety Technician. She has done an outstanding job and we are pleased to now have Angela working full-time out of the Las Vegas office. A Year in Review for 2021 Another year has come and gone. At the start of every year, we take the opportunity to reflect on the previous year’s safety record. Last year provided ongoing challenges to the field of safety and health. With-that-said, Helix Electric rose to the occasion and had a stellar year regarding safety performance. Last year Las Vegas had a total of 179 audits. Ten of those audits scored 90 or above with an all-time low of only two fails. In addition, Helix Electric project scored the highest combined average audit score in our company’s history with an 85.89. This is truly a remarkable achievement considering we have expanded our business into new territories and added so many new people to our growing family. As a reminder any audit that scores 80 or higher passes. What that means is if a project scores
an 80 they have met all of Helix’s policies and procedures. When a project scores higher than an 80 they have gone above and beyond our expectations. On the reverse side, if a project scores below an 80, they have not met our minimum requirements. Our elite scores typically cap out around 90, but it is possible to score even higher with innovation points.

Goals for 2022 What are our goals for 2022? Some may expect a numeric value to setting a goal when it comes to injury statistics or audit results. For example, we need to do 180 or more audits this year with an average audit score above 86. My objective and personal goal for Helix is to build on the continuous improvement we’ve already demonstrated over the last decade. I want to see each year Helix improve safety communication, pre-planning, mentoring, and taking more proactive approaches to prevent incidents and injuries. As a committed, communicating, proactive, and harmonized team we will continue to improve in 2022. If we focus on pre-planning, communication, and stay committed to each other, the numbers will take care of themselves. Ceremony for the Specialty Trade Contractor Safety Program of the Year

SERVICE LAS VEGAS SCOTT ROBERTSON SERVICE MANAGER The Helix Electric Service Department is fortunate enough to be able to work on a wide variety of projects from small projects such as custom homes to high-end restaurants and retail. In November 2020, we received a call from our customer at Primm NV stating they lost power to one of the hotel wings at Whiskey Pete’s. Steve Solomon & Roger Konold arrived within an hour to find that one of the underground vaults in the truck parking lot had a large fault…a fireball was witnessed by a surprised truck driver. It was discovered that two sets of underground cables were damaged and needed to be replaced and time was of the essence as there was a large event scheduled for the weekend. One of the biggest challenges was the charred and
smoked condition of the underground vault…. everything was black. With the help of Jeremy Foos, Ryan Rexius, Rey Vizcarra, Justin Ramirez, Allen Fernandez, James Brundage Jr, Tevin Moore, Perry Rainwater, Randy Glatz, Jesus Lopez and numerous boxes of rags, we were able to remove and replace over 5,000’ of underground wiring, reconnect and test in record time to meet the customers needs and get the hotel up and running before the guests arrived. We are the First Emergency Contact for many valuable customers and rise to occasion each and every time we’re needed. Thank you to our Service Techs that make us STAND OUT above our competition!

SERVICE RENO TALLON CARGILL | SERVICE DIVISION MANAGER 28 & 29 The Reno Service Department Division 28 have soared to great heights. We have encountered our fair share of ups and downs, but we have endured it all while still growing and thriving. Every member is committed to provide integrity (the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles) to every job and with every client from the first phone call to the finished project. Our reputation is the main staple that keeps us constantly growing every year. In 2021, Division 28 has logged over 2000 jobs and to date, in 2022 we have logged 135. Division 29 has also expanded, adding the need for a project
manager and a project engineer, Kaitlyn Crannell. Combined, our Division 28 and 29 office personal consist of 6 and a field staff of 20+. A highlighted division 29 project would be assisting Walmart with a conversion of secondary metering to primary metering allowing them to save $40,000 to $69,000 thousand dollars per year, per store. We currently have 5 locations in phase one and 7 more to come in phase 2. This work has been conducted with the use of emergency generator power and off hours work. With our success, we look forward to many future projects to come.
