Estimating & Design Build
LOU SMITH | VICE PRESIDENT – ESTIMATING
The fall has seen a sea of change within the department. Our staff has seen an overhaul in the leadership structure, and I am thrilled to be leading the charge into the new year. We are putting in place many new procedures and processes to better coordinate the activities of Design Build, Estimating, and Operations. We are working to make our operation scalable to meet the higher sales volumes and the increasing demands for our services from our clients. Key leaders within the group have really stepped up and are contributing to the growth. I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the key contributions of Cielo Cloud in helping me to develop and implement administrative controls and tracking systems that keep the projects moving smoothly through the department.

The workload in the Design Build department, which is a great indicator of future work for our operations team, is growing with over 75 projects currently in design with the expectation that all of these will become projects next year.
Estimating had several sizeable projects that we had been working on over the last year come to fruition. After long periods of budgeting, design assist efforts, and negotiation projects such as Morningstar Senior Living, another large project for Switch Reno, Project Magnolia, which consisted of over 1 million square feet of industrial space, and the Founders Place ski resort in Park City Utah were awarded to Helix Electric, adding to the sizeable backlog we will carry into 2023!
