A gripping cop drama due out later this year, Santosh offers a closely observed look at the lives of women in contemporary India. Here, we are inside a rural police force that our heroine, Santosh (Shahana Gaswami) a widow in desperate need of income joins as a policewoman. She is assigned to investigate the brutal rape and murder of a young girl, and is taken under the wing of an older female inspector (Sunita Rajwar), who draws her into brutality and corruption. It’s a gripping procedural: simple, human, and tense. TA

With Sunday night's exhilarating season finale, Industry closed out its craziest, most suspenseful chapter yet. And, boy, is that saying something: The drug-addicted, sex-crazed 20-something bankers at the center of the show have been getting into some dangerous antics from extramarital affairs to insider trading since the show debuted in 2020. (That said, with HBO greenlighting a fourth season, we're sure creators Konrad Kay and Mickey Down will find a way to outdo themselves.)

The rise of the ultra-versatile actor Christopher Abbott continues with Bring Them Down, a nihilistic, tense, and bitter Irish revenge drama in which Abbott transforms into a bearded, burdened rural Irish shepherd named Michael, who speaks fluent Gaelic and cares for his ailing father (Colm Meaney), a shipwrecked father who lives out his days in the family's filthy kitchen. A dispute over two dead rams pits Michael against his struggling neighbours Gary (Paul Ready) and his son Jack (Barry Keoghan, as feisty as ever), setting the stage for an effective thriller – but also a strange morality tale, as Michael must decide how to settle his debts and how much blood to spill. The dark irony of the story (the film is Christopher Andrews' directorial debut) recalls Martin McDonagh's early plays. Not an uplifting film but a powerful one, with Abbott a very watchable character of conflict, longing and regret. TA
